Market Bar in Dundee City

The staff are miserable, the bar is miserable, and now I am, unsurprisingly, miserable.

The food was okay, but was served on cold plates which made it go cold very quickly, a bit disappointing.

Absolutely terrible. I could go into detail but it would take too long. Once is an off night but twice-to receive substandard food is just a no go. I dont know what has changed in the Market but we wont be ordering again.

Food was cold , delivery driver could not understand me had to give the code over and over again to the point I had to go show her the code

Had the special roast beef for two on the Monday. Absolutely fab!

The portion of peppered steak was disappointing and the potato skins were very small and the dip container had melted and sauce was over other containers, overall disappointing

The quality of the food was excellent, the best I have had from the Market. The delivery was very quick and a huge improvement from the previous order.

had a steak pie from here a few weeks ago and it was godly so decided to try it again for a wee late lunch today. Ordered myself a cold meat salad and chips and my partner a macaroni cheese. Cold meat salad was missing the chicken (tried to let just eat know but they only let me selectthe whole meal), the chips were stone cold and soggy, the roast beef tastes, looks and smells off and the egg on top had turned blue which really put me off the whole thing. mac n cheese bland. Enjoyed breakfast. Bit puzzled that the wheelchair lift has a big toy grabbing machine in front of it, couldn't get my husband up to the bar area so had to stay near the door which was a bit soulless.

macaroni cheese was very dry and no flavour chips where hard ...all went in bin!!!!

Just want to say been going here for years I usually love it but have noticed the last few times it’s went down hill anyway this visit I ordered a draft coke I didn’t like the taste of it so I asked if I could swap for a can of coke and I’ll pay the difference the bar man handed me the coke said £2.20 I said yeh can I swap that as I didn’t like the coke he said yeh £2.20 like being sarcastic I was like right whatever paid it and just walked away ordered a steak pie it came the chips looked well under covered the person I was with a chips were crispy but tbh I was starving so started digging in, to my surprise I pulled a big piece of plastic out my mouth spat it out I called over the waitress she was lovely said she will get someone to come down about 15 mins past no one came I saw her walking past I said to her is someone coming she was surprised no one had spoken to me yet went away came back and told me I could have a replacement I said can I get a refund as iv been put off now not really wanting to take my chances, anyway went to bar asked for the refund same guy that served the coke he just gave me the refund didn’t apologise or nothing I assume he’s the manager he just seems like he’s raging or something, this is the bit of plastic I did get my refund it says takes 3-5 days. Hopefully just a one time mistake and bad day for them, but anyway

The Naan was burnt, the pakora was dry and tough and we had to wait longer for what was the worst meal I have ever had from the Market! Over £20 spent on an awful meal

Quality of the food seems to have dropped severely, the hotdog bun burnt, chips soggy, haggis bites looked inedible, the batter greasy and dark.

Great pub food and very inexpensive. We had haddock and chips which arrived at the table piping hot. Lovely big fresh fillet of haddock in a crispy batter (not greasy) and chunky chips and a glass of wine all for £11.99 on their fish supper night (thursdays). Sports bar so tv around room showing 2 different sports channels. Clean and the staff were very polite.

order is usually 10/10 but this time it was 1/10. missing items, cold food and very poor customer service. I was promised a call back but nothing until kitchen was closed. really disappointed. won’t be back sadly.

Food not as good as it used to be. 3 weeks ago had steak pie pastry poor and slightly burnt 28th September ordered 2 fish suppers batter soggy. Have had many meals there will now give it a miss

A kind of sports bar. Lots of TVs. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lots of beers on tap including a few cask. Decent menu with a couple of vegetarian options. Food was fast and good. Kitchen open till 8:30pm if i remember right.

Sausages were weird. Also you need a code upon delivery and Justeat doesn’t tell u this! Bit of a faff

salad ordered was fine but the potatoes that came with it were brown all the way through like they'd been in gravy. soup was OK, kids macaroni arrived minus the chip and it was well overcooked and dry. fudge cake was ok. delivery time kept changing and we waited longer than we would have thought

Great homemade food. Service is excellent. Large area so not too noisy.

Plenty of available seating for a Friday night. With lots of internal stairs. Order at the bar and service was relevantly speedy. The food portions were very generous, cooked to our liking. Quick to clear away between courses. Attentive staff asking if anything else was required after bringing each plate. Fresh cutlery for each course and fresh napkins too. Toilets were up even more stairs from the bar however there was a disabled toilet on bar level one flight of stairs up so not a good place for people with mobility issues. Place was lovely and clean and had a lovely open airy feel.to it. TVs were on and had no volume may I suggest putting subtitles on for anyone who wishes to watch the TV as different people socialize in different ways.

The steak pie is the best I’ve ever had. I’m wary of getting meat but there was no fat or grizzle. Best ever. Staff are really friendly no matter how busy the pub is

All day breakfast was great. The lamb tikka masala - sauce tasted amazing but the lamb was really poor. Far too many fat rubbery bits making majority of the lamb inedible.

Went for a meal last night 4 of us. First class service and food was amazing.

I went there to kill time. Had a date somewhere else later on. Can't believe how good a time I had. The staff were great, the locals were even better. I was there for only a couple of hours, food was good enough but the big thing was the people, they made me feel like I'd been one of them for years. So friendly. More than friendly. Awesome. Burnt pasty, rock solid burnt steak, piddly amount of chips and peas. You’ve raised the price but not the quality. Poor.

Overall a good place however I feel that they really need to update their menu as it has not really been changed in years in fact the menu has actually got significantly smaller over the past few years as they have completely removed their full breakfast and entire steak menus, i have actually messaged them on SM to suggest they add items to the menu such as gammon steak , ribs seafood ECT( which I got no response). Also they have has the SAME four desert choices for years which does not include pub favourites such fruit crumbles or pies. on the plus side the food they DO serve is good quality their Steak pie is delicious. the staff are are always friendly and helpful but the clean up of tables for next customers can be a little slow and the place settings are not laid for the next customers and are just brought to you after ordering. like I said previously a good place just needs the menu updating and to be run more like a restaurant with tables set and cleaned ready for next customers and the carpets need a good cleaning too. Also the disabled lift for wheelchair users has been broken for at least two years with NO prospect of it being fixed anytime soon so much so they have actually put an arcade machine in front of it leaving wheelchair uses NO access to the toilets at all

Food is good however missing a portion of chips we have to share the 1 portion that was sent

delivery was appallingly slow - I waited more than two hours from ordering and the estimated delivery time was put back NINE times. Needless to say, the chips - wrapped inadequately in a brown paper bag - were cold, limp, soggy and tasted of brown paper. Yuck. I am so sorry I ordered at all.

Just been in this place for lunch. Table 70 @ 2:30 7th June. My wife ordered a steak Sandwich. It came with no steak or cheese. Manager agreed that it wasn't good enough and we'd get a refund. Never received the refund. Staff unhelpful so walked out.

Always fresh! Always excellent service

Been ordering from here for good few years now and love it. The cheese & bacon potato skins are delicious, same with the macaroni with bacon..... Onion Bhajis and also sticky toffee pudding are very nice, definitely plenty of it :)....... only had an issue once in the 3 or 4yrs and was rectified quickly...... This is why I prefer to get from here, less mistakes. I've had to order more regular with not being able to get about much atm, so I like some place I can trust, Definitely recommend. :)

The steak pie the pastry was hard and burnt and some of the steak was burnt and I didn’t think the macaroni was worth 9.99

Visited twice recently for Monday lunch. Good menu choice, chose special Monday deal £6.99 for 2 starters (lentil soup) & baguettes, followed by 2 main courses £14.99 (scampi & macaroni cheese) food excellent, great Service. Worth a visit, definitely recommend. Other lunch deals available for seniors.

Definitely one to return to. Food was very good and competitively priced. With real ale and comfortable surroundings and pleasant staff it was an enjoyable experience. Arrived before midday when it was quite but within half an hour it was well filled.

2nd visit here for lunch, this time for a friend's birthday celebration. Super food with fantastic smiling service. Exciting specials too. Accomodating for a large group and would definitely visit again 💜

My partner and I had finished a shopping trip and understanding that this bar was "cheap and cheerful", before making the journey home we visited this establishment. While here, an individual called Sean approached us, who was evidently more than familiar with the young woman who said she was the manager. He openly told us that he frequently sold cocaine on the premises, showed my partner and I lewd images of 'partners' of his on his phone, and when he attempted to sell cocaine to us on the premises, I asserted that we did not wish to engage with him any further and we made a complaint to the young woman who was the manager. However, when we alerted her to the fact that 'Sean' was openly dealing class A substances on the premises, the young woman (apparently) in charge threatened us, was abusive to us, and both set her bouncer on us (who seemed sympathetic to us), and called the police on us (just to be clear: she did NOT call the police on 'Sean' who was openly attempting to sell cocaine in her establishment). My partner and I waited for the police to arrive. We remained on the premises and explained the situation, the abusive and aggressive nature of the manageress, the fact that cocaine was openly offered to us on the premises, and once we had filled them in we continued on our way home. This establishment is clearly corrupt to its core. What was meant to be one quiet drink before heading home in the early evening turned into an extremely ugly and disappointing situation during which my partner and I were not only targeted without provocation, but targeted for attempting to raise awareness to the management that class A substances were being sold on the premises. This was an unbelievably poor experience. I would recommend avoiding this establishment, not only because of the blatant acceptance of illicit activities on the premises but also due to the fact that the manageress behaved in a thuggish and entirely unprofessional manner.

First time I have been here. Food very good value and piping hot. Servers attentive but not overbearing. Would recommend to others.

The first time we ordered food was amazing. Ordered again last night as food was great first time round, but unfortunately food wasn't as good this time. the macaroni had not much cheese sauce and the bacon bits were huge. we also ordered the chicken korma, the chicken and sauce was great bit the rice was too watery.

portions gotten smaller and smaller for the steak pie. not worth the money now.

A mixed experience. Cold meat salad with potatoes was fine as always. Pakora were dry and rather tasteless.

I ordered from the market and the driver picked up my order then went to mcdonalds to pick up another delivery then to mine hahahha by the time I recieved my order which was stuffed into the bag with lots of mcdonalds food, my food was freezing. Total joke

Busy bar in the heart of Dundee. Overall its fine, when we paid a visit the bar was quiet, some tables were needing cleaned.

Fish was bone dry and the peppered steak was awful.

Went there during a night out at Christmas. Had a shared platter and some nachos, went down very well. Good craic with the next table. Busy enough but still easy to get a drink. I remember when it was a cinema.

Overall great! But place needs more staff and tills.was lots of supervisors/managers busy behing desk and bar and didnt help when queue was almost 10mins long! Also WiFi drinks and food to table wldnt wrk. Get more staff and fix WiFi and I'll give a 10 on next visit

Home-cooked foods in an extensive menu that has an enormous range of starters and main courses.

Can tell they're busy today. Tray not as full as normal. Pastry on steak pie was doughy, tiniest bits of brocoli I've ever seen. And despite arriving on time it was barely luke warm so was probably cooked a good while ago. Not the New years day dinner I hoped for unfortunately.

Good staff but atmosphere and customer type is really mehh..

Best home delivery meal I've had for quite some time. The breakfast was set out nicely, not just hapharzadly thrown on the tray as most others tend to do. Everything was cooked perfectly. The chicken wings were delicious, the batter was tasty and again cooked to perfection. Plenty of toast and two pastries to dip in the soup was a nice touch. I would most certainly use Market again.

Food was amazing, nice and hot. Service was good. Only down side was the disabled toilet, it stank of wee and the floor was soaking.

What a gem of a pub, TV's in every corner, beer cheep as chips, staff were fantastic,and although I didn't have food I looked at other people's food and it looked very appetising, absolute gem in the centre of Dundee, management be proud of your staff.

Great food, good service . Reasonably priced food and drinks . Don't know if there was an issue with heating that day but it was a bit cold . Definitely recommend, didn't appear to have disabled access and there is stairs to reach bar and toilets .

I ordered the roast meat dinner. There were virtually no vegetables - 2 tiny pieces of broccoli and 6 tiny bits of carrot. I love vegetables so this was a big disappoontment. Despite the gravy, the roast beef was very dry and hard to swallow. Not great.
