Marine Fish Restaurant in South Ayrshire

The food was adequate, do not get the peas absolutely horrendous, no prices on the board, staff seemed a bit miserable, could be a whole lot better, especially if they let you know how much anything is, not the best place to eat.

God awful place. Chips were barely edible. Staff confused and unhappy. No prices showing - board is blank. Overpriced - £7.70 for 1 small chips n a chips/cheese. Needs new owners and a complete revamp.

Fish and chips has to be the Marine... food this time however... fish was a wee bit over fried... extremely crispy but just as tasty

Very poor quality of fish and chips were very black and tasteless. Staff rude and not very happy looking. Would not recommend this chippy.

Been going to the Marine on and off for years and up until recently have not been disappointed. The last twice I have visited the portion size has reduced greatly whilst the price has increased. The quality of the fish want great and the chips felt like they were a mixture of reheats from lunchtime. Most of them went straight into the bin. Sadly I don't think I will be back now

Passing through and picked up a fish supper around half 4 on a Saturday afternoon to take down to the harbour to eat. It really was awful, very greasy. An oily taste overpowered the taste of the fish and the chips. Won’t be back there.

You seriously cannot beat this place for a fish supper... under a tenner for two good sized pieces of fresh fish chips tea and bread and real butter. You would be daft not to!

Have to say that am very happy to have this fish bar close by. Staff and food are excellent and prices very very reasonable indeed.

Enormous portions of great food. Well priced too. Would have liked to eat in but missed restaurant by minutes. Still nothing better than fish and chips out of the paper.

I get fed up of pale, tasteless chips. Those here were soft and very tasty. The black pudding was larger than expected and very soft.

I had a sausage supper and wasn't keen on the sausage unfortunately. so the chips had to do they were lovely thank you

We popped in here for some lunch to takeaway, everything was great as usually. It was cooked fresh right in front of us, everything was piping hot, with lovely and crispy chips and good sized portions. Definitely worth trying!

I’ve visited here a good few times when in Girvan or nearby . I personally have always had a lovely fish supper served with no complaints about it at all . It’s been really tasty each time and I’ll continue to visit .

Very disappointed! We stopped here at the takeaway after travelling down from Edinburgh. We placed the order and it took an age, couldn’t understand why everyone else got there’s first. We only ordered a fish supper, chip roll,kids chicken nuggets and a curry sauce. So not sure what took the time but we had to stand out in the rain ages before getting our order. When I got back to the car and got out our food out we were covered in salt and we hadn’t even opened it up yet!! I opened up the onion rings to find frozen onions rings in the box!!! Never been to A chippy in my life that has sold frozen onion rings!! Had we been in the chip shop and I had seen then I’d have refused them! The curry sauce had an odd taste to it and the chips tasted of oil, they weren’t greasy but tasted of it!! Really disappointed!! I used to here a lot but I will definitely be going elsewhere from Now on!!

Served very quickly, food cooked after ordering, lovely range, super light, crispy batter. Proper peas. Will go back.

Good fish and chip shop for either takeaway or sit in. My daughter loved her pizza, chips were great, I enjoyed my cheeseburger with fresh lettuce and tomatoes and hubby loved his battered beef burgers. All round very happy with food and great service. Only let down was no toilet - they relied on public toilet round the corner but this was closed at time of our visit.

Es un lugar sencillo que se divide en dos, los que quieran comer ahí y los que son para llevar, afuera hay unas gradas donde te puedes sentar a comer tranquilamente, pedimos el tradicional fish and chips y unos camarones empanizados, son porciones grandes, con bastantes papas, los precios bien. El pescado muy bien, sin grasa. Me pedí una milkshake, pero acá no llevan helado. Nos atendió una chica, muy amable.

this is the best fish and chips you will get Marco makes it for you when you go in and the girls look after you i can only say if you have never been go you will have to wait for a wee while for it is cooked as soon as you order

Cannot give a five as the sit in cafe needs a blinking good overhaul as it's straight out of the 70s however the food tonight was excellent with ample portions and lovely prompt service by great staff.

Ordered fish & chips + burger tonight.Had to remind them 3 times what the actual order was.Chips were OK, but the fish was poor, very poor. Each customer was given 2 fillets of fish, which proves the fillets were small. Fish not listed as Cod or Haddock which proves you are likely to be eating something such as a coalie, not really a problem, but emphasises the lack of body to the fish.Top price asked for fish & chips £6.80 and certainly not worth the money. We come from Carlisle and 2 chippies in Silloth (22 miles away) provide quality fish for less money.Stay away! Look elsewhere

First off have to say food is good... and staff are lovely but somewhat lacking attention to detail...I would recommend however that you avoid the tomato sauce as it is not the best and could mar your enjoyment of a meal.. wife told me after I had put it over my food.The cafe is old fashioned and has fixed tables and chairs.. the only issue with this is these are not really suitable for us larger framed folk. It was actually extremely embarrassing trying to get out of the window seat I had to ask my wife to step in and cover my pride.Would go back but to the takeaway.

Stopped in on our way to the caravan. Food was excellent. Shop was very busy & staff were super quick getting through the queue. Everything was cooked as we waited. Fish was lovely haddock in a light crispy batter, just melted in your mouth. Best I’ve had in years! Would definitely recommend.

Sorry 2 burst everyone's buble but just had the worst fish supper ever, fish like rubber, mince pie base was solid, and chips cold, that's what happens with reheats, total let down, recommend you avoid chip shop with reheat food.

We have been visiting this chippy for more than 25 years, always great food and great service. Highly recommend a visit!

My wife and I decided to have a fish supper and scampi supper for lunch. Although there are facilities to sit in, we decided to carry-out. Two large pieces of fish and plenty of scampi too.

My family and I stopped in hear on our way back from holiday and the food was the best by far! Lovely chips, fish and haggis. We will definitely be stopping in more often so see all the welcoming staff members and have delicious food.

though service was good, food was awful. It neither looked nor tasted as if it had just been cooked. Been here before and haver never had food like this.

My husband and I are on holiday and happened by this shop and grabbed some chips. It only are they crispy, but tender as well - Absolutely delicious. We are leaving tomorrow but we are going to try and stop by once more before heading out haha!

Stopped at Girvan en route, but was saddened by the state of the town with lots of closed shops etc. We saw this chippy and decided to stop for lunch, we were the only ones sitting in the restuarant part (they also did take away). The waitress seemed rather dim and never smiled. Ordered our meals which were fine, but the waitress didn't seem to have "customers" as her priority and we kept having to ask for normal things like a glass for our drinks. Our son loved the chips and said they were the best he had whilst in Scotland. I ordered the Fish and was surprised to get two pieces, and I got a box to take one of them home as I couldn't eat it all. Prices good.

This restaurant sits off the roadside and despite it actually having a prominent position it is easily missed by the driver and thankfully it was my passenger who spotted it. It is a traditional, old style 'fish tea' place with formica tables, plastic chairs bolted to the floor and if you have more than 4 in your party, you need to take an adjacent table.

Had a very good fish supper from here. Chips were amazing and was pleasantly surprised to get 2x fish as standard. Nice staff and fairly priced. We got our meal to take away so cannot comment on the sit in service. Will definitely revisit next time I'm in Girvin.

Closed on a Saturday night at 6.30...had been to Coatbridge to the football and on way home to Stranraer and looking forward to a Fish Tea....disappointed.....thankfully the opposition down by the harbour more than made up for it.

Standard Fish and Chip shop but with sit in restauant facility serving all the usual fish and ship shop meals. Nice staff with good quality and a generous plateful. Car park right alongside the premises don't miss it.

Stopped here for a fish supper on the way to the ferry. Just what was need after walking a couple of Munros. excellent quality and value for money. we will be Back.

I was coming through Girvan on Saturday and saw the sign "Marine Fish Restaurant". It can be seen from the main road into the town from the north or from the town car park. It serves all the usual things a chip shop serves and has two doors, one of which leads to a takeaway outlet and the other to a café full of tables with a waitress service. We had some food and some drinks, waitress service, served by a very pleasant waitress who answered all our questions and couldn't have been more helpful. She is very small though doubtless her taller colleagues are pleasant too. A bonus is that, unlike many "chip shops" payment can be made by credit card. I don't be in Girvan often but would certainly eat there again.

The meals from here are massive we had fish and chips all round. I ordered 3 lots for 5 people to take away and they were that big and some still went in the bin. The fish and chips was lovely. The staff were really plesent. Would deffo eat from here again.

Stopped off here on the way to Cairnryan recently. Fish and chips with curry sauce. Called in around 8pm on Saturday evening and got the impression that it was nearly closing time ? , Food was OK but not as how I remembered it from previous visit's over many years. The young ladies who served me were polite and well mannered and it was a generous portion and pretty good value. Not a bad option if you are passing through the town.

Always use this fish restaurant when visiting girvan,nice fish and chips,fish lovely and flakey,batter not to thick,good tasty chips.

We had a double fish and chips, haggis and chips, sausage and chips between 3 adults, two kids. Tasted fantastic, the sausage and haggis was battered. Portion sizes big and service top rated. Great vfm

heard a lot of people say they had a great Fish supper out of here . erm all i can say was it was like a deep fried crispy beer mat . no white fish near the batter which resembled a Walkers Crisp it was so thin . with it being the Folk festival i would have thought it would have been busy . now i know why !!

Today on my visit to Girvan I visited Marine Fish Restaurant which is located at 24-26 Bridge Street for lunch and had a really delicious lunch which consisted of scampi and chips which was absolutely delicious and washed down with diet coke, which I really enjoyed, plus the place is clean and our waitress was friendly.I would recommend this place

Everything cooked fresh very good for the money. Very big portions. Yes you have to wait for it to be cooked but well worth the wait

We stopped of in Girvin to have a fish supper in this shop on our way to Stranraer . My partner and I both had a fish supper and we both agree that this is the worst fish supper we have ever experienced . Chips not fresh and full of grease and tasted of old chip fat ! The fish itself I'll admit was nice and fresh but the batter was like chewing gum and grease running of it ! Had we not driven to the other side of town to eat it we would have been right back into the shop with it ! Safe to say we definitely will not be back !

Great fish and chips, served with bread and butter and a cup of tea. The harbourside location is well worth a walk afterwards. Stunning views of Ailsa Craig. Interior could do with a lift but very clean and well maintained.

Being particular about fish & chips, I would highly recommend this restaurant/takeaway in Girvan town centre.

Took a few friends into the Marine restaurant last week. Service was prompt and staff friendly and courteous. Meal was cooked as we waited but very worth it. Fish was succulent, pies full and meaty, also one of the best cup of tea we have tasted. Fully recommend if passing through Girvan as there is a large car park and free toilets next to shop.

If your used to fish and chips in Scotland, then you will agree it's no a bad wee chippie. The food is pretty good, fish, really good. Kids loved their deep fried pizza, sausage suppers ect, my youngest isn't a fan of chips and he really enjoyed them. Staff were interesting, they seemed to not want to be there, yet, were helpful. We will be back :)

On a run to Girvan and fancied a chippy lunch... We both had a single fish and shared a portion of chips. Lovely fresh flakey haddock, in a tasty well cooked batter. Served in a box, and with two drinks to carry away, we were just over a tenner.Very tasty food and nice staff. It will be my first stop next time I'm in Girvan.....

After a nine hour journey to Girvan, we were looking forward to a local fish and chip supper. Googled local restaurants and we pleased to see a recommended chippy. First impressions were bad, husband asked for two cod and chips and was served from a pile of fillets entitled just "fish", which looked like they had been precooked in breadcrumbs. We tried to give the whole thing the benefit but when we got them home and actually tasted them, they were revolting. The fish was hard and inedible and the chips tasted as though they had been cooked in oil that hadn't been changed for weeks! What a waste of a tenner!

Me n my partner took our son and her wee sister. Ordered 2 chips and currys. Small chips in curry for son and a fritter roll wae curry and cheese and came to a total of £17. Talk about robbers!!! The fritter roll with cheese and curry was dearer than plate of chips and curry. How they still have a business il never know. Wish i read reviews on here 1st as the chips were rank rotten. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! cheaper places near by.

We do not live in the area but when we visit (once a year) my partner and I always make a journey to Girvan specifically for a fish supper here. The food is always fresh and hot and is the best fish supper I have ever had. We will always come back while this place is open. The kids love the food also.

Lovely fish and chips,we stay local so want a nice meal out,fish is lovely and fresh,so much of it,chips very good,always have a pot of tea with our supper,good strong tea.staff are polite,nice little chippy ☕️

After golfing in Girvan my friend and I popped in here for lunch. Sat down, took a look at the Menu ... and More Importantly Prices in this glorified chip shop ... 'Fish Restaurant'???, I think NOT ... it's got plastic chairs bolted to the floor!!Without doubt this is The Most Expensive chip shop I've ever entered, so much so, we pretended that we'd left our wallets in the car and left! In a nearby 4-Star Bistro we'd 2 Main Meals and 2 Beers for the price of 2 Fish Suppers here!

Its just a fish and chip shop and its a pretty decent one - the food was nice and hot, the service is quite good and its not too expensive. If you don't like the decor of the restaurant, get your food to take out and sit on the sea front. It is what it is, a simple chippy serving decent food and not trying to be anything else!

I was here not that long ago and a very young girl was working. When asked if i wanted salt or vinegar i replied "just salt please" when i left to eat my food it was absolutely drowned in salt to the point where i couldnt eat it.. what a waste.

We go here every time I visit this area. Fish suppers and chips really tasty. The price compared to home s pretty reasonable too.

chips were good and fresh sausage was nice and fresh , fish was very greasy got a couple of bones as well, but sad to see four kids working behind counter the youngest I would say looked about thirteen got a bit confused with no salt and only vinegar on fish so gave us very little vinegar didn't put food in a bag even though I paid for one then tried to charge me for tomato sauce that had already been paid for, not any adult super vision to be seen. poor show.

Went here for a fish and chip takeaway. We had two small pieces of cod and chips (they only did small and large) my husband also had mushy peas. The fish was still big and there was plenty of chips, hot and good value for money.

The marine fish and chip shop and restaurant are fantastic if you go to the restaurant and ask for a large fish and chips you get 4 full size pieces of fish and a mountain of chips it is great value for money if you want to eat in the car there is a large car park right next to the shop i can assure you that you won't be disappointed everything is cooked fresh while you wait but it is worth the wait when you see your supper if you are ever passing through go in and have a good meal you will have to go to the beach to walk it of

When you are in Girvan and want a delicious and filling helping of fish and chips then the place that I am about to review is the place for you and that place is Marine Fish Restaurant.I visited there yesterday and had a delicious lunch of scampi and chips which I really enjoyed and would recommend, the place was clean and the welcome was warm with friendly staff and parking facilities close by which is very convenient.So the next time you are in Girvan make Marine Fish restaurant your first stop

I worked here when I was 16.....30 years ago and it STILL serves THE best fish supper around!! I always stop here for food when I'm home from America.

Once again we called in at the Marine restaurant for a meal on our way home from Stranraer. As always the food was excellent, the service fast, efficient and friendly. My only observation is the fact that the seating of rather rigid plastic chairs bolted to the floor makes for some discomfort. However this is more than offset by all the good points. All our friends from around Ayrshire swear by this restaurant and try to time their passing through Girvan to be at a suitable time to drop in for a meal.
