Marchee Wok in Leicester

Gluten free heaven!! I’ve been a coeliac for two years now, and this is the first Chinese takeaway I’ve been able to have! The lady on the phone taking my order explained what I could and couldn’t have and then when I picked up my food they reiterated what I had. The food was gorgeous, so so worth the 2 hour round trip!!

This is my absolutely favourite Chinese takeaway ever!! The whole team are friendly and extremely welcoming. Any coeliacs out there missing Chinese this is your place! The owner’s daughter is coeliac so they 100% make sure everything is safe to eat, just order as gf we also ask for garlic free too in as much as possible. FYI the gf dishes all have stickers on them for clarity too. Tonight we ordered crispy chilli beef, sweet & sour chicken Cantonese style, chicken vermicelli noodles, egg fried rice and curry sauce all gf, my family that aren’t gf also ordered more dishes too. The food is always so fresh and delicious, chef is always working on gf alternatives where needed and they now offer gf curry, I can highly recommend this, it’s amazing! Many of there customers travel just as we do just to be able to eat Chinese takeaway that’s gf 🩷 Follow them on facebooks to see how amazing the food looks.

My daughter has been diagnosed coeliac for a year, this is the first time she's been able to have a proper Chinese takeaway. She ordered crispy shredded beef, beef in black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken with cashew nuts, beef chow mein with vermicelli noodles and egg fried rice. The first wonderful thing was the man on the phone taking her order, he was very friendly and accommodating, explaining which dishes could be made gluten free (all that she ordered) and advising how long her order would take (30mins) Upon collection the staff were lovely friendly people, all gluten free dishes have a little sticker on to let you know they're gluten free. The owner explained that their daughter is coeliac and they've developed their food for that reason. The food itself is delicious!!, piping hot even after a 20 minute drive, delicious flavours and cooked to perfection. The lady makes her own chilli oil which is fabulous!! I can't praise this restaurant enough, from start to finish a wonderful dining experience especially for gluten free/coeliacs who often miss out on certain cuisines. Thank you so much Marchee Wok!!

I got diagnosed as coeliac a year ago and didn’t think I’d be able to enjoy a Chinese takeaway again. I read the reviews about the gluten free options and was intrigued whether there were only limited things I would be able to have. Upon calling, I was shocked to find out that everything I wanted to order could be made gluten free! The owners are such lovely people and so accommodating and the food was absolutely wonderful. So tasty and fresh! Would 100% recommend to anyone, especially if you’re gluten free.

I haven't used Marchee Wok for a long time. Went in as a 'walk in' tonight and ordered sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style and fried rice. On the menu it states 'breast of chicken' and of the seven pieces I had tonight, 4 of them definitely were not breast and too chewy to be edible. Such a shame because for a long time it was the 'go to' take away. Praps complacent?

Wide variety choice for gluten free. We have struggled for years to find a Chinese that cater for gluten free and coeliac. We have been craving for a take out this evening especially for a curry for the longest time and Marchee Wok had just satisfied our cravings! They have just started to do gluten free curry and it’s the BEST of the BEST. Compliments to the chef👏

Meals were delicious. This take away is a little more expensive than average but it's worth the difference in price.

Amazing gluten-free Chinese! My wife is vegetarian and a coeliac sufferer. She hasn't had some of her favourite dishes since she has been diagnosed. We ordered from Marchee Wok a few days ago and wanted to ensure she didn't have a reaction to the food before posting. Food was delicious and we've had no issues! Our favourites were the hot and sour soup, salt and chilli bean curd, and Singapore vermicelli, which are some of the best we've had in years. Will be visiting again for those alone. Loved it!

Great flavors unique to this restaurant. Been order from them for a couple of years now. They can get busy, but that's a good thing! Regardless, they are punctual with time most of the time, but plan carefully. Personally, it is one of the better East asian Western cuisines in Leicester. You know what you get here, but with a bit more care in flavoring. They cater for ceolic or gluten-free with care. Great place to order from!!! The only issue is parking is on the street and it's small, busy, and limited parking spaces, so again, plan carefully.

Went here earlier this year on the back of a recommendation from a friend, food was superb and staff were friendly; need to come back at some point!

We had been trying to find a GF Chinese for the last couple of years since my wife became intolerant and we were over the moon . The knowledge and care taken was amazing and food tasted superb a little more expensive than my local but you get what you pay for we will definitely be back :)

Like similar reviews on here, I am Coeliac and found this Chinese through the gluten free online community and drove 15 miles to get it! It was AMAZING and worth the travel. There is 1 Chinese local to me that offers gluten free but only a handful of dishes, whereas this place can do almost anything! I had prawn fried rice and crispy chicken in sweet chilli sauce. I will be back that's for sure. The lady was so lovely too :)

Gluten free chinese take away is possible!! First Chinese take away since being diagnosed with ceoliac disease 9 months ago, and I'm so happy! After hearing about this place through the gluten free community, I drove half an hour there and half an hour home again, just for a chinese take away.. and I will do it again and again if it means I can have a proper chinese! Called the restaurant, they didn't have a gluten free menu, but assured me most things can be made gluten free and to just let them know what I wanted and they would let me know if it's possible. So I went with my good old favourites from before diagnosis, beef and mushrooms, chicken chow mein and battered chicken balls... they assured me they could make all 3 gluten free, with gluten free noodles, gluten free batter and that they prevent contamination as his daughter is ceoliac. I skipped and jumped into my car, drove to collect it. All of my dishes had a little gluten free sticker on, then they wrapped the whole order in tin foil to keep it warm for the drive home. Snook a few chicken balls through the packaging on the car ride home, and the rest was still warm enough when I got home, no need to reheat! It all tasted better than I remember, they will be seeing me again soon! And the best of all, no bad reactions, so they are true to their word about preventing contamination as less than a breadcrumb of gluten can leave me in agony! Travel the distance, you won't regret it.

Tried for the first time tonight, Amazing gluten free food, so happy I found this place! So nice to finally be able to eat a chinese again !! My friend had non gluten free dishes and really enjoyed hers too! Lovely helpful staff and great portion sizes, Can't wait to visit again!

6.24 pm August 11th my first experience was with the man that took my takeaway order he got impatient when I queried the price as mine was different from his he was very abrupt and asked do you want to ordered or not ! The order arrived in less than a half an hour we live 7 to 10 minutes away from the shop it made us wonder was it freshly cooked Well surprise surprise it wasn’t battered chicken balls were well overcooked some were black ! and dry as a bone ! The fillet steak was very over cooked and dry funny that as it was supposed to be freshly cooked ! My husband took the food back and was told it was perfect and they never have complaints they offered to give us a £10 voucher My husband was shocked at the attitude of the owner it won’t mean anything to them but we paid to SumUp *Sumup £37.40 and we were still hungry So never again Marchee Wok Allendale. Rd Leicester . ps. It would be nice if you donated the £10 you offered us to a homeless charity P Wall.

My first choice for Chinese and Singapore food. Not only do Marchee Wok produce amazing food, but they know their customers so well and remember what you like best. Special shout for Singapore Chow Mein.

Family celebration takeaway - first visit - very impressed with food (well balanced recipes and high quality ingredients) and friendly helpful service on a very busy Saturday evening.

An outstanding welcoming when ever I walk through the door. The food is amazing. The service is second to none. The moment I walk through the door and hear ‘hey chilli rib’ brings joy to my face and heart. Try the chilli ribs you won’t regret it.

Been going to Marchee Wok for years and simply can't be beaten.

The young lady who served me was pretty rude as soon as I walked in the door. For some reason they charged me an extra pound for my order. The food wasn’t great but a decent size. Noodles were dry and the rice was pretty salty. Wouldn’t recommend.

So hard to find a gluten free chinese takeaway, and have not been able to enjoy one together for years! We were very excited to see they could cater for our family. Just chose from the menu and called up to check if they could be made gluten free and placed order! Food was lovely and will be using again as everyone enjoyed!

We've been using this takeaway for years and years. It's over-priced but so convenient as we live not too far away. However over those years we've experienced rudeness from the brat that answers the phone on a few occasions but let it go. She's been rude to me for the last time - we will never be using this place again. She has no customer service skills at all - the reviews for her nail business bear this out too. Never again - get some training for goodness sake or get someone else answering the phone.

By far one of the best places I've had a takeaway Chinese from, and I've lived in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester! Food was made fast and was very tasty! My girlfriend being gluten free they took extra care when making and we could hear them all relaying information about gluten free orders regularly which was very reassuring. Highly recommend if you are gluten free. All staff members were very friendly and they understand the stress of being gluten free as some members are gluten free. So it was very nice seeing a food business taking great care cooking food to a high standard too. When I'm passing through Leicester again I'd definitely pop back in and order again.

New to the area so thought we would try , so glad we did , exceptional quality ingredients , super tasty and very friendly service , we shall be back .

Ordered Singapore chow mein. Literally had 5 1cm cubes of meat and 2 tiny prawns in it. £8 for a handful of bean sprouts! I know things are tight right now but you can't just start ripping your customers off. Last penny they ever get from me so I hope they enjoy it.

I had the ribs and the noodles today and the food is totally delicious thanks to Kelly and Patrick who put in such a great amount of effort in making there food very good and up too an excellent standard I fully 100% recommend Marchee wok

This review is a bit late. I went to Leicester August last year for a weekend. I cannot eat Gluten and was recommended to try MW. It was great. Both me and my friend had exactly the same on the saturday as we had on friday. I go to Leicester every 2 years and this was the first time I have ever used the same place twice. Staff were very friendly as well.

Recommended by a fellow coeliac and absolutely perfect. Everything was delicious but our favourite was crispy chicken and peking sauce. Felt very understood and looked after - the lady taking the order (who I think was daughter of the chef/owner) is coeliac herself and every dish I could eat was marked clearly with a gluten free sticker. Gf dishes are an additional 70p each. My only small gripe was that the menu isn't marked as to which dishes are available gf, but to be fair they could do pretty much the whole menu so 🤷‍♀️. If I were them I'd advertise the gf availability much more widely (website and Facebook), though they certainly weren't short of customers!

ordered chicken and sweetcorn soup, sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice. All really quite nice flavours, but the rice was perhaps a little hard for my taste. food was ready when they said and hte prices are perfectly acceptable

An excellent meal. Our first Chinese meal since being diagnosed with coeliac disease. The food was delicious, delivery was prompt, price was very reasonable and portions just right. I would definitely recommend this take away to anyone but particularly those following a special diet.

Being coeliac it is so hard to find a takeaway you can trust not to cross contaminate. Marchee wok has all bases covered and the food is 5 star. Such a lovely owner and team.

Best Chinese place I’ve ever eaten at!!! Fresh ingredients and kind people.

Well what can i say? Gluten free Chinese and was better than the usual non gf chinese (only my wife is coeliac). Well worth the 35 minute drive and slightly increased price. Will defo return. We had yuk shung, szechuan beef, honey and lemon duck, salt and Chilli chicken, salt and pepper chips, vegetable rice noodles

Being a celiac and my son it was a fantastic experience to be able to have Chineese food. Would recommend to everybody. The food was of the highest quality my family really enjoyed everything that they had. ( by the way my family aren’t celiac just me and my son ). 5*. Can eat 98 % if f the menu

Read the reviews for Marchee Wok as they provide options for gluten free. Am so glad I tried! Deep fried shredded chicken with chilli and salt.. Mmmm I loved it! Will definitely go back for that. Ordered the spicy chicken fired rice, that was OK, not much flava but chilli oil helped with that. The lady that served us, don't know her name, was friendly and patient. Am. Going back there again soon.

We ordered for the first time here after being recommended by friends - i called to place an order over the phone and was tempted to cancel my order -the young lady on the phone was very rude and i did actually say you are very abrupt to which i got no reply. My husband collected the food and he told me the owner came out and was completely different, nice tone & manner apologizing for the rude service -recommending dishes but also making several excuses as to why this happened. We ordered Thai style tom yam soup, Spicy squid. King prawn in BB sauce and Pork XO-food was really delicious and great portion size. Reading reviews it seems there is often a rude person answering the phone -can lose custom here as allot of customers will go elsewhere as we nearly did, but food was great overall

Getting worse as time goes on. Won't use again. Telephone manner is grumpy. You have to give ridiculously intricate directions and repeat yourself endlessly. Ordered egg fried rice - got two lots of sesame prawn toast. Waited nearly 1hr (told 30 mins). Response from the owner below (now changed but I have evidence of the change) only publicly confirms the ungrammatical grumpiness to which I was subjected on the phone, not understanding that I simply didn’t get what I ordered (forget the price difference in my favour, ‘mate’ - there’s only so much sesame prawn toast one can eat). All this despite me being, for a time, a genuine customer. It’s a shame that the delivery person wasn’t on their bike on the day of my last order! (N.B. This middle paragraph was an edit in response to the owner’s rude response, which I’m not taking down even if the new owner’s response below reads much more professionally.) Update: 0 stars (if I could!) because of the attempt at gaslighting me. The owner has since deleted their rude response (of which I took a screenshot before so unlucky - available to anyone who wants a copy of their then poor customer service), which I then criticised in my edited response, above (middle paragraph). To the owner - this was a long time ago. I haven’t used your services for a long time. For obvious reasons. Only saw the previous owner’s rude response recently and replied to that. Proving that I don’t have time on my hands to write fake reviews...

Decided to try this place today. Honestly was disappointed. Staff were extremely rude and abrupt on the phone when taking the order. I felt like I was being shouted at for asking simple questions about the menu. Food was a disappointment as everything tasted like it had sugar in it for some odd reason. Won’t be ordering here again.

Fantastic authentic takeaway. Normally Chinese takeouts are very westernised but this place reminds me when I was abroad. Their duck dishes are very meaty! Ying yung noodles are also fabulous! No takeaway has made the Singapore rice noodles better than them! Thankyou

We’ve ordered from here a few times. It can be a bit hit and miss. Last time the Tom yum soup was soo sweet almost inedible. The crispy duck and pancakes are lovely though. Wait fir orders can be long but having waited at the restaurant I could see it was all being freshly prepared.

An absolute disaster of a takeaway for New Year’s Eve. Having waited 2.5 hours for dinner to arrive, as you can imagine, we were more than looking forward to tucking in to dinner. Starters were Yuk Sung and a quarter duck and the quality of the starters set the tone for the entire meal - complete disaster! Having been regulars here for many years we are more than familiar with the usual standard and the quality of the food was dire. The yuk sung was cold and the duck was absolutely awful. Not only had the duck been pre-shredded, the crispy duck was the furthest thing possible from being crispy. It was instead fatty with absolutely no taste of flavour. The accompanying pancakes were a congealed mess and again stone cold! The mains also left a lot to be desired and having been utterly appalled by the meal I decided to call Marchee Wok to let them know. The lady on the phone was completely dismissive and explained they ‘other customers complain due to the duck being too crispy and they no longer do crispy duck?!’ - not sure why that wasn’t explained when we ordered or why the item hasn’t then be removed from the menu. The closing line was that as it was New Year’s Eve the kitchen was busy and made no attempt to address the issues that had been raised. I think it is safe to say we shall be taking our custom elsewhere.

Extremely rude - I called for the first time based on recommendations from family to order from this restaurant and had the most rude and ‘arsy’ comments. For genuinely not being able to understand and having hearing difficulties - I get a rude remark why the squid for be salty (I couldn’t understand if the owner was saying salty or saucy and I didn’t have the menu in front of me.) To simply wanting to know how long 3 dishes would take to cook - and not how long it would take to deliver - I received the utmost rude responses This is not the kind of customer service anyone should receive from a restaurant that should be customer friendly and customer focussed!

Worst chinese if ever had. Sweet and sour chicken with very little chicken with that much batter they taste like pancakes. Beef tough. Very expensive. Won't be returning. Thanks for your response. Fresh and tasty vegetarian dishes, always consistently great and a real weekly takeaway treat. They provide generous portions too.

I was going to mark them down because they stopped food deliveries to my part of Leicestershire, but I just can't bring myself to. They are just too good. Honestly, their food is excellent and worth the extra cash (they are a touch more expensive than most other Chinese takeaways). I go and collect myself rather than use any of the other options that are closer, which speaks volumes. The little lady on the desk can come across as being a bit abrasive, but it is just her way and she is actually quite friendly and up for a bit of banter.

We are regular customers here but have found the service has gone downhill since a younger family member seems to have taken over. When calling to order she prioritises laughing with her friends rather than listening to a paying customer and has frequently been rude to both myself and my partner. The lady we used to deal with was amazing. The food is so good but honestly we have to weigh up if it’s worth the hassle of being spoken to like that.

I haven't had Chinese in a while due to having Coeliac Disease and my husband came across this place. Due to a trip to Leicester we took advantage to try it out. The staff were very helpful even though it was very busy, catered to other allergies. The food was absolutely delicious. The only downside was it was very busy and the lady serving us was in between calls as a first time customer it was hard to order not knowing what's gluten free as the menu doesn't specify. Another staff member did come to help which helped the issue. It would be ideal to put GF by dishes on the menu and customers can state if needs to be GF. There's a 50p charge for gluten free items but I'm unsure of why the charge is as other chains advertise gluten free but don't charge extra. There's no labels on the prawn crackers to state if gluten free and I forgot to ask so didn't enjoy that part of the meal. My mum who's never liked any Chinese food she's tried and being vegetarian was converted and enjoyed the meal thoroughly. She was happy to have it again and she even had extras. Overall, fantastic food, service and a great experience. We will definitely be back to try lots more.

Finding this place was like a dream come true!! Looking for a gluten free option (after not having a Chinese in 2 years) and this was the only place we found and I am so happy we did! This is the best Chinese we have had in Leicester! Worth every penny and the 13 mile drive to get it!! We will be back! Thankyou 🥰

Brilliant takeaway this weekend! We ordered on Saturday for football, had the family round and the their food was absolute gorgeous! You are our weekly to go takeaway. After having food from your takeaway we can forget about eating out in other Chinese restaurants being in the crowd with others. Thankyou so much x

Worth the wait! We waited for an hour and a half for collection this evening and it’s well worth the wait. Our take outs have always been brill! Weekends are bit of a wait but food is cooked authentic Cantonese style and most important hygiene...

This has been the worst most expensive Chinese takeawayEXPERIENCE ever. The salt chilli ribs were rock hard and completely inedible. The egg rice had no egg. The vegetarian spring rolls were battered and deep fried....thats a first. The sweet and sour pork was grisly and inedible. Didn't even try the beef curry or chicken chow mein. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN AND PROSECUTED.

I was never convinced about takeaways in general and certainly not Chinese takeaways, until that is......I was persuaded to try Marchee Wok. Now, if I'm asked which is the best Chinese take away in Leicester? I never hesitate to say this family run treasure in Stoneygate. In our house, favourites from the menu, include: prawn toasts , chicken satay skewers and Singapore ( Vermachelli )noodles. The portions are generous. So, perfect for next day ' lunch pack ups'.

I visited here a few times and today I was so disappointed. The ribs were frozen and then reheated tasted so chewy it was inedible! The rice was a day old and even the prawns were frozen and then fried. Really awful experience and it’s a shame as I have been twice before and loved it...

Highly recommend Marchee wok! Friendly head of house, warm welcome as always. We normally get it delivered.Our local take out every other weekend.Their Take-out is like no other chinese takeaways as their meats are very succulent and fresh. We are (gluten free), we feel very blessed to find them as not many takeaways are genuinely gluten free. We’d like to recommend anyone that are looking for a chinese that serves gluten free meal. Our go to dishes- Sweet & sour chicken is soo lovely! Chips with chilli and salt, beancurd with chilli and salt, chicken cashew nuts, seaweed, egg fried rice.
