Mansel Arms in Carmarthenshire

Called in here by chance as we were looking for a dog friendly pub serving food .What a find .Lovely welcoming pub with a roaring fire in the bar .Owner was so friendly . Had a stunning 14ozGammon with home made chips, wife had a fabulous 16 oz Rump which was the best shes ever had .The waitress was lovely and service was first class . Looking forward to Sunday Lunch this weekend .Not many of these traditional pubs left . Well Done !

we visited this pub whilst on holiday in Carmarthen . John the new landlord had only taken over the day before . He is a lovely friendly young man and made us feel very welcome . We also met some welsh choir members , and what a visit to remember . The sang a few songs for us , and what amazing voices they had , it appears they meet there every Sunday . The only downside is there are no longer meals available , and the opening times were very hit and miss .We do hope this pub gets going again after all restrictions are lifted , John deserves for it to be a viable business , his enthusiasm is very evident that he likes his job .

The food was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and a very high standard, fresh and beautifully presented. Can’t wait to go back!

Family of five- we had an excellent meal with really friendly service. All aspects of the meal absolutely delicious! The falafel burrito was huge- I shared with my daughter and we also had really good onion rings. My husband had the Mexican burger which he loved, and my other daughter had kids meal of chicken goujons. It was clear that the chef/landlord really cares about the quality of the food he serves. Thank you for a lovely meal.

We came upon this little gem on a day trip whilst on holiday. Dog friendly and really welcoming atmosphere. The food was fantastic quality, huge portions and incredibly cheap. Would recommend to anyone

Always a great meal and varied menu....the Cauliflower Buffalo wings are amazing...and that's coming from a confirmed carnivore..... staff are friendly and helpful and always make you feel welcome and valued. Best pub around 👍👍

If you are in or passing through Carmarthen do call into the Mansell Arms. Contemporary interior which is warm and inviting as was the welcome. A limited menu but covers all bases. I had the veggie option of homemade wrap and felafels with chunky chips , salad and onion rings ! Delicious and substantial. Spiced chicken breast, salad and sweet potato fries was well prepared and presented. Equally good was the burger. No room for a dessert sadly. In these COVID times make time for the Mansell Arms it is a little gem.

The vegan wings are THE BEST THING EVER homemade buffalo sauce makes such a difference! Please please please give it a go! X

First I'd like to put forward that I'm a 2nd generation American and 2 of my grandparents came to America from Wales. Secondly, besides owning 6 restaurants years ago and were Michelin rated I'm a real fanatic and picky on what I'm served. Last year I wanted to go to Wales and visit my roots and meet my blood relatives in Wales. I'm pretty old but I still wanted to finagle this trip. I had a great mix of different meals for our bunch and of course with a good dose of beer to wash it down. I love going to 'Pubs' in the UK and this was no exception. It's a great place to eat and it's so unique and user friendly that locals can even bring their chosen 'bat man', meaning mans best friend his dog! So give Mansel Arms a shot and you won't be disappointed. I'll try and update this with pics too. My cell died on the trip and so did probably a thousand photo's in it but after this SARS-CoV-2 I'll be returning to Wales and revisiting the Mansel Arms! Bon appétit!

We ended up at the Mansel after a recommendation. What a little find! Right in the middle of Carmarthen a short walk away from the car park at St Catherine’s walk. The pub was quite quiet when we got there but soon started to fill up with people watching the match. The staff were really attentive without being obtrusive. We ordered food, the menu was ok had quite a few choices along with a specials board. The food arrived quickly and was really tasty I wouldn’t say it was home cooked but it was well cooked and tasty. We watched both matches and were pleasantly surprised to get a complimentary sausage and chips at half time. We would definitely go again next time we’re in Carmarthen.

Exalent food, plenty of choice, resnable price and lovely atmesfier, nice staff. Would recommend to friends

Stopped here on the off chance after the cinema. Lovely food with great service. Staff vert friendly and accommodating. Definitely worth a visit

Read the reviews about lunch at the Mansel Arms, as they were all good we went there about 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately we weren't very impressed with our meal, not what we expected, having said that the meal didn't warrant a complaint but won't visit at lunch time again. However we might return in the future for Sunday lunch.

Popped in mid week. Very polite young man behind the bar. Unfortunately no hand pulled beer, or larger and key Worthington. Had the board special curry and chips. The chicken is not cooked in house, but it was still OK at this bargain price. Real hand cut chips and two popadoms. No pickle relish, but for the price this is still good value for money. Just right on a cold winter day. Not sure how the carvery works? There were chafing trays with vegetables, but could not see one with meat. Management may want to put up the daily roast on Face Book and on the specials boards.

What a great welcome from Terri at the Mansell Arms why can’t all pubs have staff like her .Food was great the best onion rings Ive ever had ,We will definitely be back .They do carvery most days not open on a Monday very reasonable prices I will certainly recommend to all my friends Thank you for great service and great food

A group of 6 of us went into Carmarthen Town to find a cosy, little pub for Sunday Lunch and stumbled upon the Mansel Arms. We were immediately told that's there was only the option of Beef dinner and a vegetarian dinner (veggie sausages as a substitute). Two of our party members are vegetarian so opted with the vegetarian dinner. When the food came out we were first greeted with 3 Yorkshire puddings, followed by our meals with a spoonful of mash. We asked for the other 3 Yorkshire pudding as there were 6 of us and were told this was it and we were to cut them in half to share! We then had a plate of veg to share between the 6 of us and when asked for some more we were asked 'are we desperate?'. The vegetarian dinner was veggie sausages covered with melted cheese, onion rings and mash?? With no veggie Gravy provided! One of us nearly choked on the tough beef and anothers beef was swimming in blood. As if this wasn't bad enough we all had flat lemonades and cokes to wash this all down with. When going to the bar to pay we all had a good chuckle at the WiFi password 'good food'. We cannot fault the service as waitress was lovely and was very busy and trying her best!!

Found this gem of a pub today, lovely decor, very friendly accommodating manager and most importantly, one of the best meals we’ve had! Will definitely be returning

WHAT A GEM OF A PUB, we visited here today, great value, and more importantly great food; and great service. will visit again as soon as we can. they serve 'honest' Pub Food.

We were a party of 8 including 3 vegetarians and 2 children and the menu catered for everyone. I had fish and chips and it was really lovely. Other options included pizza, lasagne and various sandwiches on a really good sourdough (incl a very spicy chicken one). They also do antipasti platters which looked delicious. Brilliant value too.

This time, I had a baked potato - big! - with beans, grated vegan cheese, salad and chef's own onion marmalade. The combination of tastes - especially the onion marmalade - was to die for. All was washed down with a nice, cold glass of Coke. The price was cheap - about t£6 - and, the ambience of the place was very relaxing.Can't wait for my next visit.

I keep coming back here, great little place, good food, good beer, friendly staff and nice atmosphere, what more do you need 😊

As strangers in Carmarthen we really had no idea where to go for lunch. My wife spotted this Pub & in we went not expecting anything special. (We have frequently been disappointed with town centre pubs).

We were in town looking for somewhere to eat lunch, as we have a dog we expected to eat outside! We sat outside at Witherspoons in the town and I went inside to order food, I was told that Witherspoons company policy not to have dogs on the premises! We found the Mansel arms while looking for alternatives, “what a lovey pub” great food and drink at good prices, great staff, so welcoming, also dog friendly so we ate inside! Great.

Like the man in the photo, (above), I was tempted by the delicious looking handmade cakes and sponges etc on display by the window. On entering, I noticed that the menus - trendy-looking ones, which I liked instantly, - were on the bar and so, I took one and grabbed a seat while there were still some available.

The food hear is amazing and very good value for money! The staff are incredible and it’s dog friending! Will be returning very soon!

Great place to have lunch in Carmarthen.The food is of a very high quality. A variety of breads available,which is baked on the premises. the service was really good.

Had a lovely weekend trip back home and I heard the food at the Mansel was something I had to try out. Wow, it was absolutely fantastic. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. The pizza I had was delicious, and would definitely go back again.

Had lunch here today whilst shopping. Wonderful HOME MADE steak and ale pie and chunky chips and onion ring was delicious. Home made Ciabatta bread and home made butter. Real food. Lovely people will definitely be back.

We stumbled upon this pub on a wet Tuesday whilst camping in the Gower. After a trip on the local steam train we were looking for a lite bite sheltered out of the rain. Saw a sign by the indoor market so went to look.

I recently moved to Carmarthen and this place was recommended. It was a great recommendation by nearby family. Lovely place for a drink and the pizza was amazing. I only just come back from one week in Rome and then two weeks in Calabria. Three weeks of eating pizza!!!This pizza in the Mansel Arms was so fresh and top ingredients used. I will be returning with the family.

Popped in for lunch, not sure what to expect as it has been recently been taken over by new management, what a pleasant surprise, lovely homely atmosphere, food was hot, tasty and plentiful, staff were courteous, attentive and timely, we had one adult meal and a free children’s meal, they were delicious, clearly homemade so nice and fresh, will definitely be back, highly recommend it here

The meals are huge, gorgeous and are really good value, definitely worth a visit. Would recommend, children eat free with every paying adult.

Five of us had lunch and drinks here yesterday. The pizzas were delicious and the garlic mushroom starter was outstanding. Staff were very welcoming. Even our two dogs were made welcome. Would highly recommend.

Food was excellent fresh cooked and home made excellent friendly service and reasonable prices - kids eat free during school hols as well

Called in for lunchtime snack were not disappointed. New owners have taken over and the food was very tasty and fresh. Pizza was home made and best BLT I’ve had especially with the choice of different breads, prices very reasonable too. We will definitely be back!

We were looking for a non-chain lunch and had heard that the Mansel Arms was under new management. Well! What a lunch! We had a combination of ‘sandwiches’ and a pizza. The sandwiches, in a variety of breads, had a mixture of flavours and textures that impressed even my fussy tastebuds! Highly recommend a visit!

Visited The Mansel Arms recently since the new management has taken over. The food is outstanding!! The best garlic bread in Carmarthen if you ask me!! The menu is also varied and there’s choice for everyone including your little ones!! Also they have a choice of fresh cakes and cheesecakes. All the food is made in house including all the breads.Atmosphere is good and the decor is lovely. You will not be disappointed going here, 10/10

Pizzas are a must! Fresh dough and breads are wonderful! You can really taste the new way of doing things! Fresh feel to the place and looking forward to trying more of the Menu! Lovely Atmosphere too!

Called in for a cold drink but stayed for lunch. The new management team have upgraded the old pub and introduced a new menu based on pizza and breads which they bake in house. The pizzas are excellent and the breads including items like foccacia are delicious. Home made garlic butter, chilli jam and humus are served with the breads. Well worth a visit

Just had lunch at this place. Food was excellent. Had their 'Epic Veggie' sandwich on home made focaccia bread. The filling was generous and tasty with halloumi and avocado, served with a crisp side salad and the bread was freshly baked. Fast and friendly service. Reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere

We have eaten in this pub about 5 times ,and always been happy with the food.Nicely presented ,and freshly cooked.We always have a meal from the the £5 menu which is great value.

Popped in for lunch. Situated at rear of market. Choice of 4 catagories of food. £3, £5, £7 and £9. Great idea. Good choice in each price. My husband and myself had plaice and chips, peas and side salad. I had a 5 oz plaice for £5 , and my husband 7 oz plaice for £7. Really tasty and plenty on plate. The lady serving us was very nice and freindly. We had been there a few years ago, glad we went back as it was lovely food.

Wonderful warm welcome, good honest pub food, very good value for money, cheap and cheerful! Sat out in the beer garden and soaked up the sun, lovely chef lady took great care of us!

No real ale served here,so no good as far as I am concerned,but ok if you drink lager,staff friendly

Me pasó en aquí por una pinta rápida, pero no estaba seguro una vez que me dieron en la puerta, pero nos quedamos de todos modos. Sólo había 3 de nosotros en el bar y uno de ellos estaba allí camarera del bar, esto era justo después del almuerzo.

Visitamos este pub nr centro listo para el almuerzo. Por desgracia, la comida sobresaliente era demasiado dura para cortar, incluso con puntos (Spot) aseguran el cuchillo. Realmente demasiado dura para comer, pero me perseverado por un tiempo. Tres miembros del personal visitó la mesa y mientras la oportunidad para quejarse, no - mis amigos y me gusta comer juntos y no esperar mientras que una comida de sustitución está preparado. No volveremos. Creo que es la peor calificación que he dado.

Ordered vegetable soup. It looked like wallpaper paste, and worse - it tasted like wallpaper paste. YUK never again !!!!

Never disappointed with service. Always activities going on to enjoy with friends. Also great pub for get together sand quite drinks.

Completamente renovado a principios del año la Mansel Arms es un pequeño y agradable pub justo en el corazón de Carmarthen. Parte de la historia de Carmarthen (solía beber aquí como un estudiante), ya que está cerca del mercado y fue una vez cerca de el ganado Mart pero que ha pasado ya fuera de la ciudad para ser sustituido por un moderno recinto comercial. Sea cual sea su edad y si su pasión es dardos, karaoke o música en vivo (open mike ahora el miércoles pasado de cada mes) recibirá una gran bienvenida aquí.

Después de pasar un par de horas en Carmarthen nos metimos a los brazos de Mansell para el almuerzo, el menú era variado con una buena elección, y también a un precio razonable. El gran inconveniente para mí fue la planta pegajosa, cada paso realizado un pegajoso sonido que para mí no era muy agradable en un establecimiento para comer. Sin embargo, la comida era muy buena, con buenas raciones y el personal es educado, así que si alguna vez en esa zona podría darle una segunda oportunidad.

Situated by the Carmarthen Market this pub is used by many of those who work nearby for lunchtime food. We went on a Sunday and were very pleasantly surprised by the variety of meat and vegetables available. Nothing excessive, just nice food in a friendly Welsh atmosphere.
