Eventually got here for a film club evening having booked once before then but got the date wrong so missed it (no refund given- not even a little gesture ….) Have had two great Mothers Day lunches here in recent years so knew the food would be good . It was indeed very good and the shared table experience was very convivial too. Service was excellent. Don’t expect effusiveness from the hosts but they are pleasant and professional. Unfortunately the film was disappointing but not the Manorhaus’ fault! A slight gripe would be that the ice cream had little shards of ice in it so they’d been allowed to partly thaw before re freezing on a previous occasion. Altogether though a great evening and keen to do it again .

Had a really good meal yesterday to celebrate Mothering Sunday . We had not eaten here for several years and it was as good as last time but minus the nice white tablecloths. The dining room has moved location and was bright and convivial although only one other family there. Service was impeccable and the food was excellent and we especially enjoyed the special touches of canapés, Prosecco, petit fours & homemade bread ( all included in the deal ) . The occasion felt really special with the numerous courses and personal attention. So many places are so ordinary now with no sense of occasion! I liked the proper napkins, nice cutlery and crockery. The price was very fair too. Only slight niggles would be that main course wasn’t quite hot enough and Boulangere potatoes were a bit dry but overall a great lunch!! We will be back and are keen to try the film evenings.

We visited Ruthin for a family wedding. We were originally due to stay in the Castle, Wetherspoon but it was full and had to look elsewhere. We were not disappointed it is a lovely central bed and breakfast. Rooms are on the small side but tbh they were more than adequate for our needs. We were room 8 and the picture is view from the bed. Rooms are clean and cater for all your needs with tea, coffee, biscuits, slippers and hairdryer. Breakfast, my husband was very excited to see his favourite, kippers. Breakfast is £10pp and we thought good value. Full english if you want plus fruit, cereal and juices. For me poached eggs and smoked salmon. Parking is off site in car park, 2 mins walk, with a permit and free. You are central in Ruthin, we did not explore too much as we were there for a wedding, quaint town. It was obviously renovated when the owners first bought, just over 20 years ago and was done to high standard, in part it is starting to look 'tired', bathroom for example. However it did not detract for us. You won't be disappointed.

Visited at 7pm and welcomed at the door by our host who took our coats and showed us to the ante room. We ordered drinks and were given a plate of canapes, which were really nice, and placed our order. We were shown through to the main restaurant and our starter arrived quite quickly, the black pudding bon bon was the perfect start in terms of taste and portion size. My wife had the lamb confit, which she really enjoyed also. For the main course I chose the not and lentil wellington, with roasted vegatables, which was wonderful. The restaurant surroundings are pleasant and I would happily return. Prices are reasonable at £25 for two courses and £30 for three.

We regularly eat out once a week and after mixed reviews decided to visit. The restaurant was empty & chilly on arrival but did warm up a little when 2other couples arrived an hour later and were seated at tables next to ours despite the others being empty..no privacy for conversation! The canapes on arrival ( in the bar area) were warm and tasty and our 2 starters of risotto & black pudding were good but not special. The lamb main dish was hot and enjoyed by my husband but I was disappointed with my Beef Bourguignon, it was rather chewy. The mustard mash was dry and tasteless, the green beans ok. We did plan on trying deserts but waited so long for our order to be taken ,we decided to leave. The two owners were waiting on,no other staff visible, so we wonder how service would be with more than 6customers. £25 for 2 courses ,£30 for 3 from a very limited menu seems expensive, even taking into account the 3 canapes & bread roll offered. 10% service charge is automatically added to the bill...a bit cheeky since the owner was serving the meal. We have had far tastier meals and paid less. The owner was courteous but not over friendly, the place lacked atmosphere. Perhaps it may be different on another evening when more diners are present. However, we won't recommend it to friends as it just wasn't special enough for the price. Sorry.

Throughly enjoyed our overnight stay at Manorhaus in the historic and, let's be honest, really old village of Ruthin. Plenty to see and do in the town. Dinner was great. Food excellent and service was professional, (but not really warm tbh). The room was well appointed, clean and eclecticly decorated. Breakfast was also a treat and I thought overall the value for money couldn't be faulted. Some suggestions: Pens and water in the rooms would be a welcome addition as would newspapers in the breakfast room.

Understaffed, slow inattentive service, looked like the owners was trying to do it all, and without a smile creating a tense and unwelcoming atmosphere. Overpriced wine, would have expected the waiter to top up the wine glasses from the bottle which he didn't. The menu was nice, and enjoyed the canapés, but generally food was disappointing. The duck main was over seasoned, couldn't taste anything but pepper. No toilet paper in the ladies. I hope comments are taken on board but would be surprised if they were.

Rooms were really clean and comfy and felt very homely. Breakfast in the morning was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. If you are in the area this restaurant with rooms is well worth a visit. There is a country house feel to the place and the service is just right - helpful and there when needed but not pushy. The food was beautifully cooked and presented without being over priced. We shall definitely eat here again. The only slight downside was finding somewhere to park as the Manorhaus does not have a carpark, being in the centre of a busy little town. Once we had been directed we easily found street parking but wondered if this could be a problem on a warm summer evening.

17 of us stayed at the hotel for 2 nights on 11th and 12th of March 2016, hiring out the whole of the house for my dads 50th birthday. On arrival we were greeted by fabulous hosts who presented us with our 8 free car parking passes and showed us to our rooms. When all of our party had arrived we settled to afternoon tea with a lovely touch of madness (my dads fave music) playing in the background. The first evening we went off to the medieval feast up at the castle which was fantastic and highly recommended. On the Saturday we went looking around the beautiful town, we also made use of the fantastic steam room and sauna and watched movies in the cinema, we were well looked after all day, in the evening we had fabulous canopes in the lounge and were taken through to the conservatory, beautifully lit and decorated with balloons and banners we asked to be put up. Food was beautifully presented and to a high quality. The birthday cake was brought out on a beautiful stand with cake slice and knife. We went on to enjoy the nightlife in the town and even though England had just beat Wales in the rugby we were made to feel very welcome by the locals. We all loved our weekend and would highly recommend. Nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful, quirky, arty house with fun different rooms and in a quaint little town. Manor hause party exceeded our expectations. We will be back. :)

Having already stayed at the Manorhaus in Llangollen (equally as good) we decided to try the sister hotel in little Ruthin. Gavin and Chris are both very friendly, professional and welcoming hosts, offering advice on the town and places to see in north Wales (the mini tour of north Wales was a brilliant drive so ask for that if you want to explore!).The hotel itself is full of character with interesting and tasteful design and decor. The bed and amenities in our room, Orial 1, were a delight. However the toilet flush mechanism did seem a bit faulty and required "pumping" for it to flush - the only minor I can think of.The food in the restaurant, like the Manorhaus in Llangollen, is delicious, well presented and unique - the salted chocolate and chili sponge for dessert being a good example! We also used the mini cinema after our meal, luckily we had it to ourselves and had the choice of over 300 films from Gavin and Chris' own collection. An original idea and the sound and visual quality was great. If you're looking for somewhere classy and quirky to stay or eat in Ruthin, the Manorhaus is the place.

We placed our orders while having an aperitif, this worked out well; everyone got the food they had ordered and at the same time. Meat, fish, vegetarian and desserts were of equally high standard. However we overheard a female waiter complaining to a colleague that we were demanding and "yelling at her". I don't think we were. And even if we were, I think a waiter should refrain from sharing this with colleagues while the guests are listening.

Manorhaus does not claim to be a hotel, or a B&B but a "restaurant with rooms". We were staying in one of the rooms (separate review) and enjoyed a fine meal followed by a short walk up the stairs. Others clearly came only for the food. The meal began with canapes and aperitifs in the lounge. Personally I find the stillness and the accessibility of one's conversation to others (and their to you) a little unsettling but once one is led into the conservatory centred dining area the tables are laid out so as to give more intimacy and privacy. The focus is the food and that focus was kept sharp throughout. My starter was perfectly cooked sea bass on a bed of lentils and leeks which had a welcome earthiness which allowed the fish to shine. The main of venison fillet was tender and delicious. I am not a pudding person and usually my partner has a pudding from which I will take only a sample. On this occasion I regretted the decision as an excellent ginger and apple pudding which was light and free of the cloying sweetness of many 'sticky toffee" type puddings. The tartness of the apple cut through delicately and the ginger gave the spice. A lovely pudding. We ate at another well reviewed restaurant in Ruthin on our second night, but agreed that, good as it was, Manorhaus was better. Our second visit, this was unlikely to be our last.

The main meal was served in the conservatory which is a lovely light and airy room. Tables are well spaced allowing everyone privacy. Both our meals were equally delicious; the meat was tender, the vegetables imaginatively cooked and all presented beautifully. I had Gressingham duck and my husband had venison. The pudding was spectacularly good if you like ginger and apple - fantastic taste and different textures without being too heavy or sickly. I'd love the recipe! The service and wine were both excellent too!Definitely one of the best meals that we've had for a long time! We will be back.

This is our second stay here and we will certainly be returning in the New Year. Overall, very good value for money :)

My husband and I decided to try this, while staying the night in Ruthin, and after looking on Google for somewhere nice to eat! And, wow, are we glad that we did! It was a stunning boutique setting, with such a lovely lady that served us, where nothing was too much trouble. The food was absolutely exquisite, and we will definately return! Thank you so much for such a pleasant evening!

We were a walk on a Tuesday night so not surprised we were only one of two diners. I'm afraid we were really disappointed with the food, although it had its moments. The homemade bread and canapés were lovely and presentation was good for starter and main, we had two courses for £25 each, so not cheap. My stuffed courgette was ok as was cheese soufflé but my husband was of the view his lamb was a reheat as it was tough...his terrine starter was tasty. We have found other local restaurants of similar price and better quality. Perhaps the midweek attempt wasn't the best idea .... The lounge is cold and the seats uncomfortable so perhaps not the place to kick back and relax. The dining area is however a nice surprise and much better than it looks from outside. Overall a bit average for us.

Eight of us went for a meal to celebrate two birthdays. We had a brilliant evening and would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone. The welcome was warm and genuine. We were served complimentary canapes with our pre-dinner drinks in the bar area, where we also ordered our food The waitress was attentive and helpful. Our table was in the conservatory, which was just great - lovely decor and table well dressed. Warm bread rolls were served just before the starters arrived, which were absolutely delicious. The main courses didn't disappoint either - all cooked to perfection & delightfully presented. Portions were just right and food was the right temperature when delivered. We didn't order desserts as we had a birthday cake with us, which the waitress brought out with the coffee while we were all singing happy birthday. They provided us with plates and forks to eat our own cake which was good of them. Also provided was a complimentary selection of sweet treats served with the coffee.I will definitely go again - well worth a visit and well worth the money.

We were not able to eat here because we lacked reservations and they were not taking walk-ins. This is not a complaint, but I wish the other reviews had made this clear so we could have planned accordingly. (I recognizer this note may get scotched since I had no firsthand experience with dining here, but I feel it is important for travelers to know they must call in advance for reservations.)

In my opinion the Manorhaus is the best restaurant I have ever had the pleasure of going to. The wine list is always good, and the cocktails are amazing, my favourite is the mijito. The food is always cooked to perfection, it always has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere, that I have not really experienced in any other restaurant so far. The service by the staff is always brilliant, and very welcoming. So if your looking for all this in a place to experience fine dining, this is the place for you.

We have been to this restaurant several times and always had an extremely good meal. This time however, I would say it was OK, nothing more or less. We travel out of our way to get there and quite honestly we probably won't be returning or recommending it for a while. The chicken canapes were completely flavourless, the arancini balls slightly better but could still do with more flavour. The breads were heavy, but our starters were good although again there was a lack of seasoning. The main course of duck was asked for pink which unfortunately it wasn't, and again a distinct lack of seasoning, particularly in the pea puree, but in contrast the cheese in the potatoes overpowered the other delicate ingredients. Apparently the chef was on his own in the kitchen (on a Saturday night!), and so there was quite a delay getting the food out although apologies were offered for this. I really hope they up their game again as it used to be a favourite dining place of ours.

We stayed, my husband and I at the hotel for two nights. The first night we had our dinner out, the second one we decided to try the restaurant...and what a pleasant surprise. We regretted wasting the brilliant experience the first night. The service was really exclusive by offering a unique personal attention and care. The atmosphere was so wondeful and the food was the best of the best. Nothing can be faulted. All in all, we felt it is worthy every single penny. There is no doubt that we will repeat the experience and highly recommend the restaurant.

We have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years and can honestly say it only improves every visit. Chris and Gavin are amzing hosts and the staff are always friendly and professional ensuring a lovely dining experience. The restaurant is also an art gallery with a collection of art on display. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. Now the important bit FOOD!! My most recent visit was to celebrate a birthday. You order in the bar and when the starters are ready you are taken through to the restaurant and served freshly baked bread rolls, everyone in the party of 4 had the most delicious sea bass starter which you could also have as a main course which is a great option to have. The mains were just as delicious and always presented beautifully. you have the option to have 2 or 3 courses and I always find room for dessert.if you want to have a great value foodie dining experience I can recommend the Manorhaus.

A trip to manorhaus Ruthin is always a total pleasure, from the welcome to the luxurious rooms. The food on this trip was some of the best I've had, from the perfectly-cooked seabass to the thoughtfully-presented canapes and fresh bread. Quite a few of my choices featured wild garlic, including a pesto garnish, and in the bread. I hardly ever have room for pudding, but on this occasion I was glad I managed to hang in there for the lemon posset. And if you do stay the night, you have the pleasure of breakfast, including homemade granola and yoghurt. Looking forward to my next visit already.

This was my first visit to the Manorhaus, despite having lived in Ruthin for over 30 years, I have had a few events here, such as Weddings, Christenings and the like over a number of years, and have always liked the ambiance, however, my wife booked a table for 4 last night, and I got my first taste of Manorhaus hospitality. The service in the lounge was friendly and prompt, then we were shown to our table, all nicely laid out, but the room was cold and uninviting. All the fireplaces were set with real solid fuel and logs, but none were lit. We ordered starters and wine, the wine was good, but not spectacular and quite expensive for house wine (Price is never an issue for me) the Starters were ok, but very poor presentation and terrible portions, this should have been a taster menu, not a full course, we then waited for a very long time for our main meals, and bearing in mind that the menu was very poor and restricted choice, we should have been served much quicker. We sat and got colder and drank more expensive plonk, finally the mains arrived, to a sigh of disappointment, as they were as small as the starters and served by the owner, who's serving skills leave a lot to be desired. All in all, a poor experience that I will not want to relive again anytime soon, and my poor wallet is still in A&E after the bill.

My husband and I rarely go out to a restaurant these days and so make our choice of restaurant very carefully. We have never been disappointed by the Manorhaus and when we went there again a couple of weeks ago it was, as always a wonderful experience. We had a lovely warm welcome, as always. Every single course was beautifully prepared and presented, with the portions just right. Help always at hand to choose the right wine. I mustn't forget to mention the cocktail expertly prepared by Alex - your "Manorhaus cocktail" really is a "good mood in a glass"! The service was just right giving us enough time to enjoy our meal and have a little relax in between courses. If anything the food was even better than on previous occasions - and we didn't think that was possible. Thank you again for a wonderful evening - you just keep getting better and better!

We have been big fans of the manorhaus for many years and think it is really important for a town like ruthin to have good quality independent restaurants like this. However we had friends up from The midlands a couple of weeks ago and took them out for what we thought would be a great showcase for quality local food. It was very disappointing. Very slow and unattentive service, tiny portions and all in all a bit embarrassing after the build up we gave it. Don't take your eye off the ball, it takes years to build a reputation but very little, time to blow it.

We dined the manorhaus last night, there were six of us for a pre christmas dinner. We were met on arrival and had drinks in the bar. My friend ordered a Mohjito which was poor to say the least, no fresh mint and little taste of alcohol, and at £6.50 rather expensive. Our food was of good quality and tasty, but the portions were so small that we were all finished in about 10 minutes! I wondered if the veg and other sides were on their way but NO, that was it!Needless to say we all left hungry and went up town to have pudding else where. The general feeling was that it was overpriced and portion size terrible. It worked out to be around £40.00 per head for 2 very small courses and 2 drinks each. By Ruthin standards this is expensive. We have decided to re-run our evening elsewhere after Christmas.

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary anniversary by having a meal and staying the night. We had a lovely relaxing time. We loved our suite with the free standing bath in which we had a deep hot bath -yummy- and a very comfortable bed . The food was excellent and it was a real pleasure to me to have a really nice gluten free roll at the start of the meal. Usually I sadly watch my husband tuck in. The only criticism I was that the service was a bit fast we would have like a little longer to sit over our aperitif for example. The restaurant catered very well with my quite difficult diet and we enjoyed our meal.

This visit was for my wife's 30th birthday in summer 2013 for a party of 12, from my initial contact through to the actual meal itself I couldn't have asked for more. All of the party enjoyed their food, fresh homemade bread is always made with interesting and new flavour combinations and the fact that we had the choice of the full menu despite being a group booking was very much appreciated. The whole group were more than happy with the quality of the food, superbly cooked and beautifully presented, good wine selection too. Would recommend.

I ate here with my mother who has some issues regarding what she can eat at night. The chef was able to adapt her choices, making sure her scallops were not cooked in butter . This attention to her needs helped us both to have a very enjoyable meal. The way welsh produce was used in the menu was highly inventive and delicious e.g. my boksburg blue mousse and the local lamb. clearly this is the best place to eat in Ruthin.

Please read this in reference to the review dated 16/9/13 by judithmt48.I'd like to point out that I am one of the table of 8 (10 actually) being referred to on the evening of 14/9/13. For many years myself and my partner have dined at the manorhaus and have always highly recommended it to our friends, it was therefore not surprising to our friends (some of which where from Ruthin and some not) that we had chosen the manorhaus again on 14/9/13 as it was a very special occasion - we were celebrating an engagement of our friends and also the birth of our son.In brief,on the night we also felt that the service was very slow and no apologies or explanation were given, we waited over an hour for our main course. Eventually when it arrived it wasn't brought out all at once thus half of us having cold food waiting for the other half to arrive, which was another good ten minutes later ( basic restaurant etiquette ). The main course wasn't of the normal high standard either which was very disappointing . After this course it left a very bad taste in the air as it dampened the evening which was meant to be a very happy occasion. As you can imagine the cost of the evening which if we enjoyed wasn't an issue but for a below par service and we were only offered a £17 discount off the (drinks) bill!!!I would not normally write a bad review but after reading their response to Judith's review I was extremely shocked and disappointed that my ( favourite) local restaurant would put a blame on their customers for their inefficient service - very un professional I felt!... So much for "looking after the customer". In defence, we had booked 2 weeks in advance so they knew they were expecting a big party. And I would of thought delays of guests arriving is a normal occurrence in any restaurant particularly when it is large party, a good restaurant should be able to cope with this and remain professional and not blame their other customers! All in all a very disappointing experience.GT

We had dinner on the last night of our stay at Manorhaus. The food, wine and service was excellent. The scallops and lamb cooked to a very good standard and fairly priced. The bar and wine list is very well stocked and again fairly priced. It is a shame that the atmosphere is somewhat lacking possibly due to it being very quiet; despite the other quality restaurants in the town being very busy.Perhaps some early bird offers or similar to tempt diners a little way down the hill? Thanks for looking after us.p.s. we may have mixed up our hotel and restaurant review in error and posted them the wrong way around!

We had friends staying with us from London and thought the Manorhaus would be an appropriate place to take them for dinner. The food was of a high standard and well presented and the girl who served us was delightful but oh the service was so slow. We waited at least 45 minutes for each of the two courses to arrive and sadly no explanation or apology for the delay. We eventually had to phone the pre-arranged taxi to delay the collection time as we still hadn't finished our second course. Clearly it was quite a busy evening for them but this should be factored in when they accept the numbers and reservation times.Would we go again, probably if they can time manage a little better.

Having recently moved to North Wales we took visiting friends to The Manorhous as they had heard good reports. When I made the reservation the chap who took my booking was very friendly and I had high hopes. We had a lovely evening with our friends, food was excellent, decor pleasing but sadly lacked atmosphere....... all tables in the conservatory were occupied and other than our waiter(think may have been Gavin or Christopher) one waitress, who appeared to be a little inexperienced. Admittedly not everyone cares to have over-attentive staff but hardly a word was spoken. I think a little more attention to the diners would not go amiss and in our case we would certainly have returned as the food was suberb

We ate here on a Saturday evening. There were only a few tables occupied and a lot of empty space, so no atmosphere at all. The food was ok, but the Pinot Grigio we ordered was not a good one, which at least meant we didn't order another bottle! The service was slow, which we were surprised by as there were so few people eating. We were glad that we had chosen to stay somewhere else as Manorhaus couldn't accommodate our dog and it most definitely needs a refurbishment

We dined here whilst staying locally. The server was lovely, if not quite prompt with the service. We sat ourselves after waiting for 5 minutes at the door. Considering the target market and cost of the food, the conservatory type room that everybody was dining in had no atmosphere and was in need of repair. The muslin that was draped from the ceiling was stained in 5 or 6 places from water ingress and there were puddles on the sills. The only speaker playing music was in a different room and was on very quiet. The food was good, probably the bet in Ruthin, but the other bits would put me off going back again.

New entrance to the right at Jackson’s Garden Centre and exit at the far left by the cafe and new screened till points. There is a one way follow the arrow system which kind of works (we did go back but really you should exit and go round again ) we did queue to get in and went straight to the cafe where you are given a hand held device which alerts you (pings) when there is a free table. Everyone was wearing masks or visors in the cafe. We felt quite safe as it is all very well organised. Wipe clean menus, waitress service, very clean and tidy everywhere including the shop and outside areas very quick service and the bacon, Brie and cranberry panini £5.99 from the the Christmas menu was delicious. The pate of the day platter £5.99 served on a board tasted as good as it looked . Very reasonable priced menu. Lovely Christmas decorations and gifts in the shop. It was nice to be out and about for a lovely lunch and catch up
