Mandarin Chinese Restaurant in Hillingdon

A rather strange experience all in all. Positives: the staff were friendly enough and the restaurant itself is clean and a really pleasant space to sit and eat in. I also really enjoyed the salt and pepper chicken. Negatives: no alcohol-free beer options at all (which seems unusual in 2024), really (!) soggy/spongy batter on the sweet and sour chicken balls, plastic plates, no knives on the table (why?) and a side of curry sauce so big that three of us only managed half of it. This feels like a local family trying to capitalise on a lack of good Chinese restaurants in the area but sadly missing the mark. I can’t see myself returning for seconds.

First time eating here - there were 4 of us. Went for mothers day. The dishes we chose were all great, tasty and decent portion sizes. The only negative thing was hot plates were brought out and by the time the food came, the plates were cold. That said, I would come back. Good value.

Food was delicious, especially the starters! Been a while since I had good Chinese food. However, portions are smaller than I hoped and can be a little pricy.

I dine in Mandarin regularly, I love the ambiance, the food and the service. I keep going like I am addicted. I have not used their take out service. My favourite dish is sizzling scallop in black bean sauce with rice, it’s a dish that must be tried for those who appreciate scallops. I don’t find the exclusivity of serving scallops in other Chinese Restaurant. Everything I have tried so far is brilliant. I thank the Chef and Andrea, who is the lady that serves me, she is Indeed, welcoming and friendly

The food service is good and the staff members are cooperative with customers. The inside view of the restaurant is peaceful of mind.

We ordered a delivery through Just Eat from Mandarin, Very Disappointed! I've eaten from here before a while back admittedly and it was great, but this time I was shocked at how disappointing it was, the crispy chilli Beef wasn't crispy, it was chewy and had so much chilli in it, it wasn't nice, it lost its taste, and I don't mind a bit of heat, but this was silly! The Chicken balls were soggy and came with a small pot of cold sweet and sour sauce, the only thing that was decent was the egg fried rice; which was nice! Needless to say, we shall be going back to our usual Chinese!!!

First time I've ever received half cooked rice from an asian restaurant. Salt and chilli chips were also undercooked and very small portion. We had to finish cooking them before eating which defeated the purpose of ordering a takeaway. We also ordered sweet and sour chicken balls (average) and fried chicken with chilli and salt (lovely flavour) Restaurant took so long to prepare multiple that Deliveroo drivers dropped the order.

When i ordered food i was on student visa, but when my food came my visa got expired coz it took good 4 hours! Wallahi

Unfortunately, we ordered food on deliveroo and we waited nearly 2 hours for it. We did not even receive the food as the order was cancelled.

I have visited the restaurant couple of times and the food is delicious as well as the service is very good. Staff is very humble. Overall its feel really good eating in there.

Went in for our wedding anniversary on New Year’s Eve. The wait for food was far too long and when it arrived we had to ask for cutlery. Clearly the restaurant couldn’t cope and was only half full but the worst thing was the Uber/just eat/ deliveroo drivers standing in the restaurant waiting for their orders. Had to leave half way through the meal.

Really good food and Atmosphere!

On a weekday, in the restaurant it wasn't busy but had to wait for bit longer than I thought for food. Portions were decent size but they are a bit expensive. Food was tasty and seemed good quality. However the worst thing was the restaurant was very very cold, this made it very uncomfortable, thought about keeping my coat one and a friend actually did! Can only assume its the heating bills they're avoiding. This made the food go cold quickly. Not sure I'd go again and if I did would be the summer!

Not over impressed with the food

Food was quite oily and caused abdominal discomfort. Service was quite slow also.

The service was great specially one lady in particular. I think her name was PUNA. She was amazing host. She prepared food according to our dietary requirements. Food was lovely. The ambience was great and beautiful restaurant . I recommend best Chinese locally with great hospitality and clean restaurant.

I first tried the food at mandarin Northwood and the food was so spot on that I have been going back ever since at-least once a week. I was gobsmacked when I saw the menu they have such a big variety. Their food is freshly cooked, very tasty and well presented. The owners/employees were really friendly, attentive and service overall was excellent.I would highly recommend anyone reading this to go and experience some proper Chinese/Cantonese food hands down.highly recommend their popular peking spare ribs so meaty and juicy followed by sesame prawn toasts so much fillings and crispy aromatic duck so meaty as well Singapore rice noodle,special fried rice,beef ginger spring onions chowmine,beef black been sauce,chicken yellow been sauce,shredded chili beef,shredded smoke chicken and chips chilli and salt . Great food can’t fault anything . See you soon again

Had a lovely dinner date with my husband at Mandarim and did not disappoint. The food was delicous and the service was brilliant as the lady who served us was very friendly and tentative. Highly recommend this place.

We used to be regular customers at the mandarin, both takeaway and in person. After ordering food yesterday from the Mandarin through uber eats, we failed to receive one item. On raising this with the phone, we were told by an astoundingly rude member of staff that they put it in the bag, and thus the driver must have stolen it (because they regularly steal egg fried rice?!?!?). Despite the item not being crossed off the receipt, she continued to insist that either we were lying, or it had been stolen (maybe it was a houdini fried rice?). This is absolutely appalling behaviour from the staff, especially given the fact it was all over a simple error of forgetting to put rice In a bag, and could have easily been resolved in seconds. I absolutely will not be returning to the mandarin and will take my custom elsewhere - where the staff prefer not to accuse me of being a liar!

I love the Chinese here and it is one of my go to takeaway places. The hot and sour soup in comparison to many other places is delicious and the quantity is amazing. I love the spicy shredded chicken and the Singapore noodles too. Have been in to eat on several occasions and never been disappointed.

Great decor, attentive and friendly service from all staff members and great food and drinks too. Expectations exceeded and definitely coming again soon for another date night.

Best Chinese place within 5 miles and the best value within 20!!!

A very nicely dressed restaurant. The service was friendly and the food was nice. I had the chow mein which could have been a touch more seasoned but that is just my taste. Otherwise a decent local restaurant.

The place “ mandarin” is lik to sit n chill around your thougts .... and enjoy your yumilicios food taste which you aspire ... one of the staff member mr. sharma (Rahul) who was very admirable and true to give services to the customer efficiently was so exceptional ..!! Love this restaurant. As a vegetarian, they have lots of good veggie options and I loved every dish I had. Service, food, atmosphere and everything was excellent. I had the veggie duck pancakes and veggie satay chicken for starters, both were really tasty and fresh. I had the veggie chicken black pepper dish for mains - again, this was so good! Highly recommend!

Went to Mandarin for the first time last night and all I can say is that is going to be my new regular. The food was absolutely delicious, service was impeccable and the drinks were delicious, especially the Lychee Granita and a cold pint of Tiger on draught. The decor and ambience was really nice and the music wasn't too loud so that a proper conversation could be had. We had the salt and chilli squid rings, duck pancakes, Singaporean rice noodles and sizzling lamb cooked in sea spice - all dishes were 10/10 and I will be going for sure. You will not regret going to Mandarin and the owner and staff were amazing, cannot fault them for their service and attentiveness.

We placed our order via Just Eat at 8:50pm and 1 hour 15 mins later no delivery. We called the restaurant and a lady with no customer service skills kept putting us on hold while she tried to deal with an error of receiving our order. We asked to speak to the manager who did apologise but if I am honest it was limited because other restaurants would have tried to offer some sort of gesture for the inconvenience. The food at mandarin is night but not worth waiting this long and to then be served bad customer service. The last time we ordered they also forgot to pack part of our delivery.

The main dishes were great but the prawn crackers were sadly really stale. The chilli prawns were superb. Definitely go there again

I first reviewed Mandarin a couple of years ago, under the original long standing management. In autumn 2018 it closed for refurbishment, and has now reopened. The old review follows this one; I've only been to the new one a few times. To begin with, little changed as far as the food went, but recently it felt like it had gone downhill, so I've dropped it a star. Unsurprisingly, the 1970's washrooms have gone, replaced by something modern. They had period character before, but not really in a good way. The new management is not Chinese, and is a lot more friendly by Western standards as a result. The food started off the same; I was told the same kitchen staff are behind it. Recent experience suggests thus may no longer be the case, but it's possible the chef was on holiday. Some silly over-charging on the bill (£5 to serve the ice cream from a banana fritter in a separate bowl), and the drop in food quality has lost them a 🌟. Next visit and it'll go down or back up (I hope). On the plus side, I'm pleased to see they have retained the beautiful mother-of-pearl wall panels, while updating and brightening the whole feel. It's more open and airy, but less cosy. Several people have complained about price rises on the all-you-can-eat Sundays. If you're the type who liked them, this will be a problem. For anyone else after a good meal out on a Sunday evening, the only thing better would be it's complete demise. Review of the old one. A place we seem to be going a lot! Although they don't make a point of catering for vegetarians, they're really good at it. Lovely food, consistently great service and a good ambiance. Avoid the all-you-can-eat menu on Sundays unless you're a carnivore - there's a lot more choice, and its cheaper, to use the normal menu. Why not five stars? Well they could do better with frozen or fresh gluten, but then again they do wonders with the tinned stuff. But then again they don't claim to be a veggie venue.

Went there on a busy Saturday night! Food was tasty and fresh and also didn’t take too long to be served! Considering the prices of other restaurants this one seemed more then fair! I would certainly go back! The prawns in batter for starters was the star of the show!!

It's mediocre, went on a Sunday evening and it was really quiet. Unfortunately the food still took around 30mins to arrive and was average at best. Bland flavours & boring presentation. It was edible, but nothing to write home about. The fried rice was made with fresh rice so was all squishy! (if you know, you know). You can eat there, but I won't be rushing back. Much better available in the area.

We visted last Sunday for the buffet This restaurant used to be fantastic and we often enjoyed our visits, good tasty food and great value.....well, not anymore. We were so disappointed that it took a while for things to sink in. The website is not updated and prices are very different at the restaurant then those advertised on line, the staff although pleasant are forgetful and clumsy, we ordered seaweed which never came...gad to ask again....we ordered egg fried rice an d that never came either...the food took very long to arrive and when it finally did...it was stone cold. The portion were very small...and I mean 1 prawns each.....5 pancakes for the veggy duck ...for 3 adults...let's cut it short...dinners seating right next to us were also saying how disappointed they were ...and they were regulars for 20 years....so....don't waste your time and money ...go elsewhere.

Sunday was all you can eat day; very tasty and small portion plates so could order many dishes.

Although supposedly a Chinese restaurant, the food is so twisted to meet English tasts that I doubt any Chinese person would ever eat there.

Decent quality but all-you-can-eat option is great value.

No habíamos reservado con antelación pero el personal era encantador y organizar las mesas para nosotros. Uno de nuestro grupo era vegetariano y estaba bien atendidos. La comida era deliciosa y el precio era muy razonable. Llevamos nuestro propio tarta de cumpleaños y el personal poner una vela, y le cantaron feliz cumpleaños. Maravillosa noche estamos deseando volver.
