Mamma Mia Pizzeria in Oxford

Great relaxing evening in a friendly family restaurant. Good choice of very tasty Italian food and fresh pizza. Flexible if you want a different pasta with sauce etc. I changed my pasta to linguine to have with the smoked salmon cream sauce. Delicious. Popular with young families and others wanting a good value for money meal out. Service is quick and efficient. It can be a little difficult to hear your friends talking but we could have asked to be seated in a quieter area and it is nice to be in a lively atmosphere.

Classic Italian feel. Try the garlic bread!

There is a 1 male waiter and he is really really rude to young people(I don’t know maybe he is rude to all). But pizzas and other staff members are really good you need to try this place. But i request managers to take care of this rude middle aged waiter. By the way they are taking only card for paying and that’s very weird 🤔. (I went there at least 6-7 times and that guy was always rude.)

How about we don’t wink at women on international women’s day 🤷🏼‍♀️ especially when you’re the manager. Just a thought 🫢

This used to be one of the places loads of people went to take their kids out, or after work. Good food and ok wine. Busy and fun. Recent experience is less good. Staff not well trained, orders wrong and poor wine. Hope it gets better again

I love coming here! Been my favourite restaurant ever since I was a boy. Came in for a quick meal with my girlfriend. We were served my Lucy who was very friendly and attentive. Food was great as usual and prices were good. Cant recommend enough! Thanks

The new restaurant is excellent - slightly bigger, different shape but still the same efficient service and excellent food. On this visit we shared some starters and I had one of their excellent pizzas: - Crispy Fried Calamari with lemon & caper mayonnaise - Fried Zucchini Sticks with fresh tomato & roast pepper dip - Stagioni Pizza with olives, smoked ham, mushrooms & artichoke, with added anchovies Really good meal.

Having read some of the other reviews, I feel we have been to a different restaurant. The service here was excellent as was the food. It was a really good meal as always but it could have been a bit better if it was a bit faster at serving your food it also was very busy.it is really good value.

Wonderful pizza, excellent service and lovely atmosphere. Great to sit outside in the summer and watch then world go by. It has been refurbished in recent years to make it bigger, but still churning out the same delicious pizza!

He was great at finding just the right lights that were both pretty and good for saving energy. They put in these lovely fixtures that really made the place feel warm and welcoming.

Simply outstanding, the calamari, the pizzas and the carbonara are simply fabulous. Please, treat yourselves and book a table. You will not be disappointed.

We are celebrating a child's birthday, we ordered a table in advance, the food is delicious, the atmosphere is chic, the service is excellent, it is recommended to visit!!!

We went to Mamma Mia Pizzeria as a group of 7. The place was full, but this did not dilute the service we received. All the start are friendly, attentive and great with children. We all had pizza and all plates were empty at the end! You can get a gluten free base or vegan cheese. Everyone is accounted for! A real local diamond!

Called in Christmas eve to see if they could fit us in as we hadn't booked. They sorted a table for us straight away and we're really helpful. The Pizzas were great, staff were really helpful, a great place to eat.

Lovely cozy pizzeria. Friendly and helpful staff. Attentive too. Does mainly pizza and pasta. Pizza I had was nice (although it had sliced olives from a tin), large and thin crust. Manager kindly squeezed us in even though we hadn't booked.

Bought £45 worth of take away pizza and had to improve them so much when got home by adding cheese to them all ( there was barely any tomato sauce on them but didn't have time to make that up) and Chorizo to the Amercano that had 5 small pieces on it. Mamma Mias was always the talk of North Oxford and I have eaten there for 20 years but it has gone down the (pizza) pan in my opinion and is now a sub standard rip off!

It is always a pleasure to visit Mamma Mia. I took my daughter and her friends yesterday for a birthday lunch. The staff were so friendly and accommodating despite having six 7-8 year olds to serve. The pizzas were delicious as always.

excellent food and new environment

Came on the 30th of November for a 18th birthday. The waitress was incredibly rude had an awful attitude and was rolling her eyes when asked a simple question if they could check for something from the chef. After consulting the chef, the chef made a rude hand gesture which signifies “go f&ck your self” and then comes back and continues to be rude and have attitude towards the rest of the people at the table. Unbelievably rude and unprofessional there was a clear view from where we sat to see the chef. So disappointed after every other time we come here we have an amazing experience and the food is always top quality. Would definitely recommend the restaurant and food but this experience has totally altered my opinion of the staff. ( aside from the manger who is always on great form) very disappointed by the rude waitress and chef that could clearly see we where all looking at him after he did the gesture and also then talked about it at the table while the waitress was there and she continued to have a bad attitude towards us.

Best pizza in town, but what sets this place apart is the glowing, upbeat service. Family favourite. If you’re a purist like me, try the bufala mozzarella pizza

Super choices and well presented

This place is actually not bad for takeaway pizza but it’s not at all friendly and the rest of the menu is pretty average. Gino’s is much better and friendlier and I think if you want to splash out a bit then La Cucina and Branca are a better bet. But if you are in Summertown and want takeaway pizza this is ok.

The pasta was very tasteless. Not even like Italian food. The shrimp and avocado salad is the worst I have ever eaten. The tastiest thing was a glass of Coca-Cola.

A great evening celebrating our daughters 17th birthday! Fantastic all round from the initial booking, to the service and atmosphere. The food was delicious. Our party had the carbonara which was great and gorgeous pizzas. The staff were great and having outlined on the booking it was a birthday celebration they bought out some ice cream with a candle and sang happy birthday! Nice touch thank you! Will be back!

Pizza with little topping, we ordered chicken pizza, there are 3 or 4 small pieces of chicken per slice.

We had three pizzas, all was delicious but sadly their dough was very salty.

I was staying in a nearby B&B so Mamma Mia looked a good option for a Monday night when other local restaurants were closed. I was seated at once without booking, but on weekends I suggest reserving to ensure getting a table at this popular restaurant. The staff were all cheerful and chatty, so full marks there. Food was also good, I went with a calamari starter and the 'house' Mamma Mia pizza and enjoyed both. I was checking my watch a few times waiting for the pizza; that was on a Monday so could be worse on Fri/Sat. Pricing is reasonable, they make money on drinks of course with Peroni around £5 a bottle but will provide tap water on request. The WiFi works fine for people who are checking their mobis. This is a family friendly place, in other words expect children to be quite vocal! It's not really the place for a quiet tête-à-tête! I'd certainly go back.

Good service and very popular with the locals but it was very expensive. I've also had much better pizza elsewhere.

I know everyone is raving about this place and I have now been three times. Sorry, but I find it overrated. The food was average and the service as well. Food was mixed up and an ask if they could make something special for our kids birthday was completely ignored. I tried pizza as well as pasta but neither wowed me away. Not my cup of tea.

We went yesterday night looking for a restaurant near our hotel. The food and service were excellents. The waitress gave our toddler a sticker book with colors to enjoy at the restaurant and when we paid she gifted a chupachups to her too. We think that you must go to this restaurant. If we would live here sure we go here each weekend.

Much preferred to the one in Jericho. They are so helpful and accommodating, happy to swap things around and seemed well informed on ingredients (I was doing an exclusion diet at the time). They also have chinotto - hard to find in the UK and amazing!!! Will be coming back for sure. Thank you for a great evening!!

Good italian food lots of choice

the food was scrumptious (lasagna&zucchini linguine), you can tell that they use high quality ingredients. however, upon asking the staff for guidance in terms of calorie intake of respective dishes, the manager's initially friendly disposition changed in a second: from then on, she was being extremely short with us, visibly giving us a cold treatment. it was confusing to say the least, and unrepresentative of a nation whom I hold in high esteem for their good manners and inherent politeness. left a bad taste in our mouths.

Mamma Mia - very well established but never complacent. We had a table for 13 for a birthday party and everything was fantastic. We had dropped off an order about 30 mins before and within 10 mins of arriving everything was on the table and children were tucking in. Brilliant service throughout and the pizza and pasta great as always. One celiac in the party and the staff were very conscientious. Thank you Mamma Mia for helping make a 9 year old's birthday a very happy one.

This is a wonderful pizzeria to visit in the Oxford area. This one in Sunmertown is beautiful inside and the atmosphere was wonderful. The service was exceptional. And the food was delicious. The pizza style is thin crust. I got the pollo e fungi pasta and my wife got a pizza margarita. We loved both of our dishes. We also got the garlic bread. For dessert my wife got a scoop of gelato and I got the tartufo.

Unique and delicious pizza Respectful staff I recommend

This was a totally bad experience for us, nothing like the Italian restaurants we're used to visiting. Although the staff were pleasant, there was no real Italian atmosphere and we were so rushed, they were taking our plates away as we were eating our last bite. My pizza from the specials board was soggy and not nice, my wife had Pasta Napoletana which was quite bland - I could cook it better myself and have done in the past. We just felt under pressure all the time, aware that our table was required for the next arrivals. The online booking advice was that we would be limited to 70 minutes for our meal, we had 2 courses and were in and out in 35 minutes. We might as well have gone somewhere else and had a takeaway.This was a real shame as we visited the restaurant last October and the experience was much more positive.

I can absolutely recommend the restaurant. If you like pizza, pasta or salad, this is the place for you. It's a bit noisy but you can tell that children are welcome here.

A very popular place..lively atmosphere and busy with lots of customers collecting take away pizza. Pasta and pizza on offer plus a specials board which was offering tuna steak . Pizzas thin base with crispy edges. Fillings moist fresh and succulent. Starters included whitebait;calamari, Garlic mushrooms; Pizzas about 12 to choose from and included vegetarian options. To note is on a one way street and parking restricted to 2 hours until 18.00hrs. Also such a popular place noises so for oldie like me difficult to hear all conversation at end of table!!

Really nicely renovated now looks like a modern pizzeria not the drab old fashioned place it used to be. Quality of food has improved as well, pizzas were perfect, not thin and crispy and crusty like they used to be!

As a non-Oxford resident, I'm pretty shocked this is reviewed so highly. Don't get me wrong, the pizza is fine, but in my postcode in Cardiff there are 3x Pizzarias that would get a Michelin Star if this is the standard. As I've said, perfectly fine, but if you are from a larger city, this is a very average Pizza Place.

Lovely food, prompt service, great setting - sat outside. Large service charge which was presented as not optional was a surprise but seems to be the norm in Oxford.

Amazing Service Loved it. Very busy as they are popular but even so, wait staff did great. Spaghetti, rocket salad, pizza, tiramisu, chocolate cake - all fantastic. Really enjoyed our time with them.

Food was amazing and customer service was excellent. The pizza was some of the best I’ve had and had a luxurious, soft, sweet, and fresh sauce. The lasagna was hands down the best I’ve ever had. Many lasagnas overload on cheese and salt, but this one had the perfect balance of flavors making the dish light and pleasant. The Italian gelato was extremely authentic and dissolved beautifully in the mouth. The perfect balance of tart and sweet. The chocolate cake was warm, rich, and decadent. 10/10 recommend this restaurant.

I just had one of the nicest 4 cheese pizzas ever on the most gloriously thin base and a side of Rocket & Parmesan salad, whilst sat on a sunny patio! The most glorious hour to myself in a long time 👌

Wonderful food with very gentle service

We just had a wonderful dinner here, with friendly, kind, and efficient service from the lovely Kinga. Her recommendations and explanations of menu items were helpful, and the food was excellent. My husband is already planning what to order the next time we are back in Oxford. The garlic bread was particularly good—stuffed full of cheese and garlic, it was much more than just a “filler” item! Thanks again—highly recommended for tasty, reliable Italian standards!

Down from Scotland for a few days in Oxford. Came across this place while wandering the streets as we were staying nearby. Atmosphere looked nice so decided to go the following night. The staff were super friendly. My partner is vegan, and even with vegan options on the menu they advised they could make a vegan pizza that wasn't on the menu if she liked. We both had pizza and both were great. Service was quick and staff were super friendly and we're asking about our trip. Atmosphere was great and had a real local/family feel to it. Will 100% be back if down again for a visit.
