Mama Dells Cafe in Braintree

Mama Dells used to be one of our favourite places to eat in Witham but sadly not any more. The last 3 visits haven't been great, the first not so great time was when my friend ordered her sandwich on granary and got white, I ordered white and got granary. The second time my husband and I sat upstairs waiting to be served, yes they were busy but they HAD seen us come in, no one came to take our order so after 20 minutes we just left...they saw us go but no acknowledgement. Then this time we waited an age for our brunch (they weren't busy) and our poached eggs were over cooked, no one asked us while we were eating if everything was ok so we mentioned it when paying, the lady was apologetic but in one breath said "oh I'm sorry to hear that, that'll be £24 please". There are now so many other places to eat in Witham we won't be troubling Mama Dells again!

Got a prawn baguette and decided to eat inside the cafe. The bread was stale and the prawns were flavorless. Additionally I also got charged £1.50 for asking for lettuce in the baguette so it came to a total of £8 for a singular sandwich. The interior is very dated and the chairs are not comfy and gives a dirty feel. I would not recommend and I have found myself heavily dissatisfied with the experience. I do not believe the 5 star reviews that this place have been given especially for interior as this is simply false advertisement.

My wife and I recently visited Mama Dell's prior to visiting a local escape room. We had allowed ourselves forty-five minutes for breakfast and the escape room was just down the road. However having taken our seats and quickly placing our order, the food took twenty-five minutes to be served, despite there being no one waiting for their food at other tables when we arrived, leaving us having to eat our meals in a hurry, and after having trouble locating the escape room, we only just met our booking time. The food itself was decent although the toast was a bit limp but we have never gone anywhere where two breakfasts take so long to be served. So we would recommend the food here but only if you're not in a hurry!

Really rate this local place! I now work in Witham and pass this place every day, it always smelt lovely and one day thought I’d stop in to see what they offered. I’ve since brought lunch from here 3 times this month 😂 Always made fresh in front of me, friendly staff and there is always other customers in there so it’s obviously not just me who is happy with it

Had a lovely breakfast at Mama Dells this morning. Everything cooked well with no oil or grease in sight. Full English with a pot of tea less than a tenner, well worth a try.

What a little gem this place is. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming, and the cafe has a lovely relaxed vibe. Service was so quick and the quality of the food was simply outstanding. This is the best ‘all day breakfast’ we have had in a very long time. The sausage and bacon were full of flavour. We will be back and would highly recommend people visit here.

Passing through Witham on a Monday we found that the nice tea rooms we'd used on an earlier visit was shut, so an alternative was needed. Mama Dells stepped up to the mark in style - friendly and chatty staff, good coffee, cracking breakfast menu with a good split between traditional fry-ups and hipster favourites, with a few specials of their own. An unexpected delight but one to file away for future reference.

We were a little earlier than planned in witham so decided on a coffee. Which we then upgraded to a breakfast. One of us had the big breakfast and the other had the smaller breakfast which suited us. Great we could have poached eggs instead of fried . Only downside was the amount of beans little too many in our opinion. Very clean, friendly staff and followed covid regulations. We would definitely stop for breakfast again.

We enjoyed a fabulous breakfast at Mama Dells. The service was first class and we received a very warm welcome. The food was delicious and the team were making it as covid safe as possible.

I visit mama dells weekly, usually for a midweek breakfast with my youngest son. They are child friendly and accommodate his requests perfectly. Everything I’ve ordered here has been very nice. In particular the breakfasts are great. Milkshakes are really good too. Glad we have this place on our doorstep :)

Visited here, after doing some research, in town for the ELO Encounter gig. I had an item from the specials board: Californian Omelette. It was wonderfully fresh tasting, and filled me up. The coffee was great, too! Recommended!

We met here to enjoy breakfast and talk over our Christmas holiday. It was as always,a warm welcome into a warm cosy restaurant. The full breakfast was fresh and hot and really plentiful, even the toast and jam order was served quickly with 3 portions of jam! Coffees were welcome on this cold morning and it all made for a lovely meeting for all of us. Yes! Good start to 2020. Try it !

We visited for the second time this month and really enjoyed our experience. The staff are lovely, polite and attentive, we were really made to feel welcome. The service was fast and efficient and the food was great. There is a large menu with so much to choose from. Its a great place for lunch and we will certainly be returning.

The service was first class first time that I have been to this place very very pleased with the service that I was giving the food was very good the waitress Jodie was first class and the owner semo was very helpful will definitely go back to this restaurant again very nice place for a meal would highly recommended to all how likes a meal out different dishes each week

We visited Mama Dells on Newlands Street in Witham to 05/12 for lunch. It was excellent. We are always greeted with a warm smile and professional service. Even when they are at their busiest. Today we sat upstairs as they were full downstairs and I am please to say that it was every bit as clean and well presented as it is downstairs. I like good food and good service, even when visiting a cafe. I find Mama Dells very good value for money. Money doesn’t just buy the food. For me it buys the food, the cleanliness even down to the door that I walk through to enter, it buys the smile and the acknowledgment that as a customer I count too. Thank you Mama Dells you are so worth all of that.

One of the best breakfats in a cafe, the quality of the food is excellent and it's well cooked. Coffee is good too. Price a little high but the food is good.

Always our go to place for a great fry up or a healthy option if you fancy it! The service is always with a smile and food is always top notch! Don’t forget there is plenty of seating upstairs!

A friend of mine told me i had to try this place so my wife and i went to witham especially to do so.I had bubble a couple of eggs and bacon i commented (not complained as i could have ordered more when i ordered an extra egg) i was surprised that there was only one rasher, low and behold another rasher was grilled and bought to our table.My wife had mushroom and cheddar omelette with chips. the food was cooked completely freshly when we ordered it and it came out as soon as it was ready It was perfectly cooked, spotlessly clean and delivered by a smiling front of house.I cant think of anything that would improve on this place all i can say is well done mama dells what a great brunch

I have been to mama dells cafe many times and breakfast is great. Now I take my daughter to have lunch there.We usually share a big ham and cheese panini and chips served with 2 glasses of milk ,side of tomato sauce. Good staff and the food is great quality its worth the wait as its cooked fresh.

We visited the cafe at around 3pm. The cafe was quiet when we visited. The cafe was clean, bright and well-ventilated. The staff were friendly and non-intrusive. We ordered a ham and cheese panini and a fruit cake. The bread was fresh; its texture was good. The panini was tasty. The fruit cake was served with 4 varieties of jams — we were spoiled for choice. The coffee was definitely better than average. The tea was good too. It is worth mentioning that the toilet was immaculately clean. It was a good indicator of the care that the staff took to their restaurant. The food was good value for money.

We regularly have breakfast here on a Friday, normally between 6 to 10 of us, luckily they have plenty of seating upstairs. The breakfast is excellent, some of the lads choose to have something different which always results in clean plates. The service too is also consistently excellent, a gem of a place fully recommend.

Came here for a breakfast with work colleagues, my brother ben who I work with came too. It was his recommendation, in fact he goes on about this place all the time. In his words " it's the best breakfast". In fact he even gets excited for it lol. Though I have to admit breakfast was very very good, though for me the Bakewell cake was the highlight. Fantastic! If your looking for a really good cafe, give it ago.

I’ve been here quite a few times for breakfast on a Saturday morning. High quality food, reasonable price, good service and menu. Recommend for a good breakfast if you don’t want a greasy spoon fry up.

Can always rely on good food when visiting mama dells however you will find it is a little bit more expensive than you expect. The specials board keeps getting updated with new things to try and the selection of cakes is always a dangerous temptation.

Left early to get across country and having reached Witham on route did my usual search ‘nearest cafe to me’ for a break. Got the usual options of Greggs etc but there would bound to be a better option and Mama Dells came up. Nice little cafe in town, easy to park first thing too. Loads of options on the menu. Had their smoked salmon option. Freshly prepared and very nice. Would certainly go their again now found.

We love this place for a Saturday breakfast. The most delicious eggs no matter how you like them cooked. The 'stokes' brown sauce adds a tasty touch. Friendly team always chatty. A perfect place for afternoon coffee & delicious cake.

We visited here the other day. One of our group is vegan and another is gluten free. We had little hope of finding a cafe in Witham that would accommodate all of our dietary needs. However, the attitude of the staff was excellent. They knew their stuff about vegan and gluten free diets and so it was no problem to have a meal that we all enjoyed.

This is the local cafe, sandwich shop to my offices and i can only say no one in my office has ever had a bad meal, from breakfast to sandwiches and salads for lunch it's always been good, freshly prepared with a efficiency and a smile, a basic cooked breakfast is quite inexpensive and they offer alternatives like porridge, all in all nice little cafe

This was not my first visit. On this occasion I had the Super Saver breakfast (bacon, egg, beans and chips), which was very tasty, and a pot of excellent tea. The total cost was just over £5 and great value for money. Mama Dells also does a much larger Mega Breakfast which I can also recommend. Service was also the high standard I've come to expect from Mama Dells on previous visits.

Visited last week, thought I'd try the veg curry soup, sadly it wasn't what I excepted. Firstly it came out luke warm so had to ask for it to be heated up more and sorry to say it was a bit bland, it was more like curry sauce with a mix of frozen mixed veg and fresh veg thrown in it, even adding salt didnt do much for it and the menu says soup served with a roll but it came with bread and butter. But have to say on a good note that the bakewell cake and brownies were very good so will come and try something else if I'm not barred!!!!

This is the best full english around without a doubt. Whenever I've got friends over and we want breakfast we go here.

I don't have anything bad to say about this restaurant. The ambience is comfortable and the staff are very friendly. Our food and drinks arrived promptly and were very tasty as well as very affordable. My latte was excellent. We will be coming back.

I have eaten in all witham restaurants and most of the surrounding area, this place always delivers and I am a fussy sod!

Certainly had a breakfast for for a king my husband opted for a full English all sources local products and all freely cooked to his specification ... never known him eat every morsel on his plate ..and say he could eat again if he wasn't so full. .I opted for the scrambled eggs salmon and bacon serves with gorgeous fresh toasted granary bread ..the eggs were the fluffiest tastiest I've ever had and the salmon was so lovely and fresh and a deep colour with no veiny bits . . Good quality ... topped off with two coffees that knock spots off of their major high street competitors ... great value and great tastes .. highly recommended as an independent value cafe

Ordered hot drink and all day breakfasts - drinks came first and were cold by the time the food arrived which was disappointing.Food was ok though but slow service let it down

The range and quality of food served here is amazing for its size.It does get extremely busy at lunchtime which does mean it can take a while to get served. As you can only park on the road for one hour it can leave you rushing to finish.The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes. There is a small seating area downstairs and more upstairs (which we've never used).Definitely recommend here and we'll be returning.

I visit here at least once a week, mainly for takeaway but have eaten in there many times. Owner and staff are lovely, very accommodating and all their food is delicious - highly recommend!

So I went here today!! Amazing choice of food at a very reasonable prices!! 5* I had the all day breakfast the bacon and sausages tasted fresh and free range!! The bread was amazing!! My mum had ham and chips which was beautiful smoked carved ham the chips are amazing!! And the staff especially Simone was super friendly!! Recommend you sit upstairs the view of the high street is great too!!

We have been here often and not once have we been disappointed. Good fresh produce is used from local shops eg Holts the butchers - so no cheap watery bacon! Service is always with a smile and nothing is too much trouble. Save yourself cooking breakfast on a Sunday morning and come here instead. You may never cook breakfast again!

Took the children here for a bite to eat after swimming on a Sunday afternoon. The children (2 & 5) shared a Ham sandwich and I had an egg mayonnaise sandwich. Lovely and freshly prepared with lots of filling. The cakes on offer were too tempting to resist so we all shared a fantastic chocolate brownie and simply delicious bake well tart cake.Try not going to Starbucks or costa for a change and get to remember when cafes were places where you got great quality fresh food and decent coffee.

The young lad who brought our food was hardworking, very helpful and friendly. The jacket potato and prawns was nice but a little dry, needed more butter and/or sauce.

Popped in after rushing to the bank at lunch... Really impressed! Brilliant friendly service and a super-high standard of produce. I had a roast pork sandwich with stuffing and apple sauce, and my husband a Brie and cranberry with a coffee. The service was quick considering they were made to order and served with a smile. The menu was impressive with the fresh bread supplied by a local artisan bakery (gluten free available!) and the other ingredients ranging from home made/small batch, organic or locally sourced. The sandwiches were really tasty and the bread soft with proper crusts!It's so difficult to find takeaway food that isn't processed and really is home made and to a high standard, we were really impressed and will definitely be back!The owners quite obviously care greatly about the quality of the food they produce and as an independent business they should be really proud of what they are doing!High fives all round Kayte & Steve

To my shame I have only just "found" Mama Deli's despite living in Witham for more than 20 years. Good quality freshly prepared food, coffee to die for and friendly attentive service make this a must visit when in town.

Have visited Mama Dels before and they never ever disappoint. Went yesterday for breakfast, a large choice and you can pick and mix to suit your own taste. Food always well presented and with a friendly smile. Coffee is always good which for me is a bonus.

I spoke to Aldo at Mama Dells as we have just opened a new business in the local area and he very very kindly agreed to support us as we are supporting him.I called to see him and had a fantastic coffee, the menu looks great. There was a good atmosphere and the cafe is clean and spacious.

Mama dells do a really good breakfast with a choice of items and set breakfasts to choose from. The service is good and you don't need to wait too long for you food. We eat here at least once a month. My only comment would be to ditch the packet sauces and get in some Heinz!

A nice little place and we may have just had a bad experience. We ended up sitting at the table outside the kitchen and one of the waiters came from downstairs and loudly announced that a customer had found a hair in their food. Now this obviously happens from time to time but do not loudly announce it to other customers whilst we are eating breakfast. At that point we didn't eat anymore as it turned us off the food.

We had breakfast here on Friday and we'd definitely go back. Both of us ordered the full English breakfast, they were really tasty and best of all not greasy!

Being a local business man I like to know what I am getting when I choose a 'Local' establishment. This lovely Diner in Witham's high street is always to a high standard with friendly helpful staff. A good choice of Fayre fthroughout the day.

Well if you want the best breakfast in Witham this is the place you need to go to. Friendly service and top food. Need I say more.

Food here is second to none ...and it's an independent retailer .. so it's lovely to support local business .. helps when the food is of such a great standard as are the coffees ...great prices too for fresh local cooked to order produce ..recommend the omelette .. enough for 2 and soooo tasty

We stumbled across Mama Dells by accident,while looking for somewhere to have a late Sunday morning breakfast....we were sooo pleased we did!! We had two "buster" breakfasts,a pot ot tea,and a coffee.Everything was excellent.Very nice staff,and a warm welcoming atmosphere complimented our breakfast experience.We are not local to Witham,but would definitely eat there again when in the area.Well done Mama !!

Mama Dell's - we go there every week, for Saturday lunch! Great food, great service, great coffee, and great value!We started a plan to have Saturday lunch out every week a few years ago. After a few weeks we visited Mama Dell's, and had the Full English breakfast. We continued to tour, but kept retuning to Mama Dell's more often, since we just knew that we would receive great quality food, great service and good value.After a while, we just reached the point of going directly to Mama Dell's every week!I do have my own special, which is Fried egg on Bacon on Beans on Cheese on toast!

I decided to visit Mama Dells cafe today (11th of November) at around 10.30am, as I entered I walked over to the nearest table and quickly selected the Full English Breakfast from the menu then walked over to the counter, I stood there for a little while as the manager (maybe) chatted to someone and as I caught his eye line he just carried on chatting, not even attempting to greet me or pass me over to someone! Thankfully one of the staff had the manners to walk over once he spotted me and took my order, he made a point of saying "Are you being served there" to try and make the other member of staff actually do their job, I suspect this may be an ongoing frustration. After receiving my Coffee and Breakfast I was surprised at how over cooked everything was, the bacon was hard and burnt on the edges and my 2 flipped eggs had been combined into a rectangular mess, the baked beans had clearly been microwaved, not for the first time and finally the granary toast was soggy! The best part of my breakfast was the filter coffee which was excellent, as time ticked round I decided to stay to observe the 2 minutes silence, Ken Bruce was playing in the kitchen area and the countdown began to 11am with the Big Ben chimes, there was a couple in front of me that had chose to do the same. As the final chime finished and the silence started I though this would be respectfully observed by the staff, to my disgust it was not, the kitchen staff shouted across to the person by the counter then decided to have a full blown conversation about what needed to be ordered!! I think this shows a total lack of respect, and the couple in front of me were just as horrified. In years gone by I have had good food at Mama Dells but things have changed, maybe a change of management or attitude but certainly for the worst! I left as soon as the silence ended without feeding back about the food (as this was never asked for) as this would have been heated with the addition of the lack of respect for our fallen heroes, I will never go back!!

I have been into here a few times and their bacon rolls and their breakfasts are always something to look forward to. This time my wife and I went in for lunch, we had a beautiful brie and bacon baguette which came with a small salad and balsamic vinegar. A lovely place for breakfast and lunch

I used their outside catering service to give a sandwich lunch at my home for a few people. It was great and I would certainly use them again. Good value, nice variety of food, all delivered promptly.

A gem in Witham High Street - great place for lunch and have taken my daughters here - everything freshly cooked to order and have now been a few times. Nice venue; friendly and attentive staff and much nicer than Costa..

We were three, wife 22 year old son and me. We went in for early morning tea and toast but I could not resist the mature cheese with tomato chilli chutney sandwich for only £3.50. The sandwich was lovely served with lettuce, onion and balsamic vinegar on the side, the tea was hot and plentiful and not overpriced and the toast was excellent too. Service was quick and cheerful and we enjoyed our visit and will definitely return there.

Best Olly Murs-themed smoothie in Witham - guaranteed!!Love Mama Dell's. I go all the time. I visited with my mum recently, and had my favourite: eggs benedict, a Murs smoothie and a latte. Mum had a panini and a tea and said they were perfect. Everything was hot, arrived swiftly, was nicely presented and in portions of a decent size. Mama Dell's is not the Savoy. What it is is simply a high quality, good value cafe run by people who know good food and that's why everyone I know in Witham recommends it. The staff are hardworking, ingredients are fresh and local and prices are reasonable. It's always clean and well-maintained, supplies of things like sugar and condiments never run down and there are even colouring books for children. An excellent cafe that will keep going for many years, I have no doubt.
