Called here while on a circular walk for refreshments. Had a roast baguette and a pint of Wainwright's. Baguette with beef was served with a couple of roasties, two stuffing balls, gravy and horseradish-- simply delicious! Both food and beer was sensibly priced. Good menu of pub food dishes, well priced. 5 star hygiene. You can't go wrong.

Took my friend out for lunch and stumbled across this pub by the canal - the welcome was friendly and the food was all fresh and homemade - totally delicious and great value for money - the pie and gravy was like my mother used to make - not tasted gravy like that in years. Facilities were clean - charming and quaint interior - looks like regular live music is played there - overall a lovely countryside/canalside pub

Went for a lunch, appreciated that it was the Inland port festival, so extremely busy, ordered our lunch, also appreciate they were offering a limited menu, 2 baguettes, 2 salads, bowl of chips and drinks, everything came, except chips, with apologies for long wait, again no problem, when we left still having no chips, I spoke to the young lady who took our order, reply was I donโt work in the kitchen, will tell the chef! Not impressed with response, paid for something that was not delivered

It's a short menu with specials on the board and we three adults ordered salmon, haddock and beef pie. We had to wait 25mins for our fish as it was cooked to order. That was no imposition as we sat outside in the sunshine with my pint of excellent real ale and their lagers The chef here deserves congratulating. All 3 dishes were beautifully cooked as were the vegetables We ate inside. The service was spot on and relaxed both behind the bar and bringing our food. We could have been locals Of course the ladies toilet was spotless and the whole place felt cared for We'll return soon as it will be my turn to pay !

It was the worst lunch that I have ever had in a pub. The meat in the lasagne was dry like breadcrumbs, the sauce on top was non existent and had baked together with the cheese and was like chewy leather. The chips were soft and very greasy and the garlic bread was poor. Would not recommend or visit again.

Our favourite pub in Shardlow. Staff very friendly, fun, and inviting. Friday fish and chips are absolutely amazing. Awesome selection of beers. The pork pies with complementary pickles are just too good to miss! We always take a couple home for a late night feast! The only pub I've ever been to with board games printed on every table with pieces available behind the bar. Full selection of games from kids snakes and ladders to monopoly and Scrabble. Not forgetting the beautiful wood burning stove set centrally within the pub. A must visit for anyone visiting the fabulous historical canal port of Shardlow.

Delicious home cooked food. Chicken pie was packed with filling, served with beautifully crispy home made chips and plenty of veg on the side.....broccoli, cauli, carrots and sugar snap peas, not your usual boring garden peas......and the gravy was so tasty! The fish was huge, the burgers very tasty, the roast dinner was also excellent and comes in different sizes depending on your appetite. There was 7 of us all ordering different meals and they all came out at the same time too. I do not live near the Toons shop but I have had a wonderful service and help via the telephone with Paula in the curtains department.I had been trying to find curtains that were hard to find, eventually I found them in stock online at Toons.Having been let down by other retailers I rang Paula who could not of been more helpful. She went out of her way to send the curtains first class to me, well wrapped up and I received them the next day.If I lived nearby I no doubt would be a regular customer. We were visiting this lovely marina complex at the end of summer and the group split up, intending to reunite at the Willow Tree for a cuppa and cake after some shopping. The hot drinks, shortbread and views were all lovely. We'd have given the tearoom a five star rating on this basis. But the entire visit was spoilt by an older blonde-haired staff member. Understandably, there was a one-way system in place to support covid distancing, but we felt the lady in question spoke very aggressively at two of our group who inadvertently entered through an exit door. The family member who had led the way in through that wrong door was partially blind. We understand that it must be frustrating for staff to constantly advise customers about the one-way system in place in this restaurant. But frankly, their signage was not especially user friendly. And sadly there was zero empathy, consideration or any attempt at understanding why someone might have wandered in through a wrong door. Having been spoken to in this manner, we didn't think it was worth explaining. In the face of what we felt was unduly aggressive behaviour, we simply paid the bill and left. There are several other eating establishments at this lovely marina, and we will visit them instead next time.
