Maloncho Tandoori in Guildford

Delicious take-out. We have been coming here for years to sit in and the good news is the lovely food continues as a take-out during Covid. Expect to pay £15 per head before drinks and dessert

I visited Maloncho Tandoori on Friday 9th October 2020. This was my second visit, although my guests first visit to the restaurant therefore I knew that from my first visit, this was a fantastic Indian option in Guildford and that my guests would enjoy. In terms of COVID-19 practices, this restaurant has always been extremely clean and hygienic. The staff wore either face masks or visors, allowing their guests that evening to feel safe and relaxed. We were impressed with this. In regards to the food, it was as wonderful as I remembered from my first visit. Some particular highlights were the king prawn puri starter (a great big portion!), the mango lassi drink made fresh in the kitchen (and worth the wait!) and the chicken makhani cooked to perfection. We were so impressed with our meal at Maloncho Tandoori- a truly authentic Indian restaurant with friendly staff and top quality food. Cannot wait to return! The perfect local Indian restaurant.

Good service shame about the food. The starter was ok but we felt very let down by 2 very bland curry’s. the tikka masala tasted like tomato soup and the other curry that was recommended again tasted the same as the tikka masala. Very boring and flat tasting. Not experienced a Indian restaurant like it.

Well, that was unexpected. Having ordered from Maloncho as they had a very good overall ranking on Google, we were expecting something very good. And in places, it was. Good points:The saag aloo was excellent - firm, perfectly judged and well flavoured. The potatoes were intact but cooked. Truly scrumptious. The pilau rice was excellent. Buttery, delicate and with a lovely hit of spices. Bad points:Neither the chicken dupiaza or the chicken tikka had zing or real depth of flavour. Well presented and with a lovely sauce on the dupiaza, but they were both very mild. And not in a “delicate and carefully judged” fashion but just “not enough time marinading/quantity of ingredients.”Paratha was uninspiring. Tarka dal was overcooked to a semolina-like consistency. Which was a shame, because the flavour was excellent. Lastly, despite being told 40mins over the phone they were a good ten minutes past this. Not outrageous for a Sunday evening but definitely frustrating considering the above.

Great food, ample portions and pleasant, helpful staff and good prompt service.Quite cramped to dine in especially in Covid times and felt a little uncomfortable being so close to the next table and being overheard by them - also had to keep shuffling chair in so waiters could get past - but it’s a small restaurant so appreciate it’s not so easy to squeeze people in. You wouldn’t come here for the decor or ambience - the walls are very plain, dull and bland with little to look at, but the food is great and makes up for that. It’s more a small relaxed informal hang out for locals, rather than a special night out. Would probably choose to get a takeaway from here in future, rather than dine in. Can’t fault the food or service which was very good and would definitely recommend to others.

Sadly there’s avoiding the main problem - being served up several pieces of raw chicken alongside some far too pink pieces as well, was never going to result in a good review. However I might have given them the benefit of the doubt had there been the slightest apology. I really wasn’t impressed with the attitude of the staff. They did remove said raw chicken dish from the bill but that really is the least they should have done, given that I could have ended up in hospital had I not checked the inside of the meat.

Visited the place for first time and was really skeptical about food as i have not found a good curry house in Guildford till date. To my surprise the food was amazing.. really fresh ! We ordered tandoori mix grill, chicken naga and naan.. all were good and authentic.. reason i am not giving 5 star is because service needs improvement.. waiting time is exceptionally high.. understand its a busy month but better planning is required. Hope to see improvements when i visit next

Went there on Wednesday night when meeting with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while.Upon entering we were asked to sanitise our hands before being taken to our table.We had popadoms and chutneys then our mains of Maloncho Lamb shank and chicken balti, rice and peshwari nan.The dishes were hot, tasty and of adequate portion.As it was a Wednesday evening we were able to take advantage of the eat out to help out scheme, tbh even if the bill was full price I would’ve been happy to pay for what I had eaten.So glad we went as we had a great experience, have a date night with wife soon and will be going back

HAd a lovely meal here on a Saturday night. The selection and the quality of the food was first class and all three in my party were very complementary about the food. The staff seemed to struggle a bit. It was busy but they forgot what we ordered for drink (as they were keen to keep answering the phone to take orders for takeaway) and were a bit clumsy. There were three waiters which should be plenty for a small restaurant but that could be improved on, unless it was just an off night. The food as I said though, was first class.

It was my mates birthday and we spent the day drinking around Guildford, we spontaneously decided to go for a curry and as Maloncho was the only one open for dine in at this time, we decided to go, we were greated by amazing staff who were very helpful with our choices for food, I chose a lamb jalfrezi which was the beat curry I have ever eaten. This place is incredibly priced for how good the food actually is, I highly recommend. The only issue I have with Maloncho is how uninviting the outside looks, I wish people could experience this restaurant but the look of the restaurant is outdated. I honestly believe this restaurant would be a lot more popular if it had a refurbishment, because the food is outstanding.

Maloncho is our regular curry house and the food is always absolutely delicious! We wouldn't go anywhere else! On one occasion we had an unexpected issue with a takeaway order so we reported it to the management team and but they sorted it out without any quibbles. Very pleased with the service and will continue to visit regularly I'm sure.

We were horrifically rushed. They were taking away plates as my son was chewing his last mouthful. The hot towels arrived before they had cleared the table at which time we had had papadoms, starter and main in under an hour. My starter was sweet. Service was friendly but I hate to be rushed - in and out in an hour is not a pleasurable relaxed dinner.

Arrived on a Monday evening and it was busy which is a good sign. Staff very welcoming. Delicious food. Good value. Recommended.

I can highly recommend this Indian restaurant. The prawn and chicken kormas were tasty, the lemon rice was interesting (in a good way) and the peshwari naan was so fresh it was too hot to rip, to start with. The place was packed, but we came later than others, so once a work group had left, it wasn't noisy. The waiter was friendly, interested in us, but happy to hover far enough away that we didn't feel intruded upon, and a nice guy. I'd go again in a heartbeat!

We love it here! Love the veggie korma and veggie biryani personally but husband loves everything he tries (he gets something different each time). Nice atmosphere and they treat us like family- highly recommend.

Those place had good points and bad points. In summary, The sauces were very tasty but the meat was over cooked.They originally brought me the wrong order. I questing it but was told this was correct so assumed they'd just made a mistake and given me chicken instead of lamb so started eating.2 minutes later they wisked the first disk away and plonked down the right one. No apology, no explanation so not great customer services.This does mean I can comment on two main courses. The chicken dish (some kind of medium curry) was tasty but the chicken was very dry. Given the speed at which it arrived, I expect it had been cooked earlier in the day and reheated.The lamb naga was again very teary but the lamb was a bit ropey. Again, over cooked but also tough. Either buy a better cut or cook it more slowly.Saag paneer was 2 out of 5. Not enough cheese.Avoid the lemon rice. It had large chunks of lemon peel in 1/2 cm plus. Grated peel is fine but I don't want to eat a whole lemon!

Reasonably busy and a good atmosphere. Staff laid back to the point of falling over. Starter way, way, way too salty so didn’t eat it. Staff cleared plate but didn’t comment. I just thought I was unlucky so didn’t complain, but with hindsight, perhaps I should have done.Main course dishes arrived. Lentils (Dahl) excellent but main chicken dish....go on, guess. Yup, too, too salty. Didn’t eat much of that either.So paid up and left. Never to return methinks!

We went there last night and the service and food were excellent. The staff were very friendly and especially accomodating. Highly recommend this place!

How can any person say that this is Indian food. It is not Indian food at all. The taste is not there. Eat the Indian foods from the restaurants in London and then you will know that what you are eating here is not Indian at all. Please correct your food.

A bit chaotic getting a seat because of a 25 head booking for 13 seats! Ordered popadoms but none arrived and got charge and refunded for them! Curry- Balti was dry and dull.

Lovely decor, really wonderful friendly staff, came to have dinner to celebrate my late fathers birthday and the food was so so good. We loved our meal and the service was amazing. Will definitely be back, new favourite Indian restaurant in Guildford!

I’ve been eating at Maloncho for a couple of years now, both dining in and takeout. They don’t shy away from spice or bold flavors and their service is second to none, making them one of my favorite Indian restaurants not only in Guildford, but in the UK overall.

I really enjoyed my meal here. It was fairly standard for UK Indian restaurant. Excellent service and good food, if a little bit oily.

Went with very high expectation. It was not that great especially popadoms which was tasting bad -use of rancid oil.

First visit to Maloncho for a while - and it remains a real pleasure. Attentive staff, nice food and a pleasant vibe. Try it!

Had a lovely meal Saturday night. Me and my boyfriend love a good curry, and Maloncho definitely did not disappoint. Great quick service, yummy food, good portion size, brilliant staff. Buzzing atmosphere! Can’t wait to go back!

We two of us with Freind visited without booking , it was busy evening , waited For 45 minute to be seated . Food was ok bit oily and pricey ... two course of meal is £79 including 2 cobra beer ...

Popped in here before.seeing a show. Nice food. Quite well priced but felt that we were being rushed to get out. Shame really.

Wouldn't recommend, 5 of us ate, all meals were tasteless no flavour at all. Came here on a recommendation so maybe we caught the chef on a bad day, we won't be returning though. We ate a few mouthfuls of food then left the rest, the waiter came straight over to take our plates away and mentioned that we should have come with a better appetite, I then stopped him and complained about the meals, he then said next time try something different- I was very shocked at his response. Some of the staff were friendly which was the only positive thing about the meal. Very disappointed with the food and the way the complaint about our food was handled. We won't be returning. £150.00 wasted.

Had amazing Bengali fish curry and it feels home. The waiters are very friendly and they make the curry to your personalised needs. Don’t look further if you are in Guilford and looking to taste curry that feels like home made! 10 stars!!!!!

Have been coming to Maloncho for a few years now. Service has always been excellent and we are greeted (respectfully!) as old friends.

Had a takeaway from here. Indian is my favourite food in the world and grew up in Bradford. Really don’t know where to start, the mixed starter was tasteless, covered in oil, and tiny. My girlfriend ordered a tikka masala and was the worst Indian meal I’ve ever eaten. It was like a tomato soup custard. Totally unflavoured and SO SWEET! I’ve got a really sweet tooth but this was so so so bad and only had 4 pieces of chicken. I asked for a keema and asked for it Asian style. Which should mean it’s pretty tasty. It wasn’t and even though was better than the tikka masala it was still tasteless. To the point I added some pataks madras curry paste and re cooked it. Got two naans, both smaller than a side plate so had to nip to Waitrose to buy some more breads. Really disappointed with it and if it wasn’t a 20 minute walk to take it back I would have.

Whenever we come here, the food is always fantastic as is the service. Definitely best Indian in Guildford!

Eleven of us went for dinner and we all enjoyed our evening. The service was extremely good , efficient but without being rushed. The food was traditional Indian which we all enjoyed. We will be back.

Great food, will customize your food little bit the way you ask. Really enjoyed fried rice and dal tarka.

Finally got to eat at this curry restaurant and the good news is the food is quite good, but unfortunately, it was very noisy indeed, with echoing when we went and the additional fact of having only one friendly member of staff was not enough to convince us to go back.

This restaurant doesn’t look like much but is actually quite the find! And I wish I found it sooner - had a great Friday night here. The food was slightly cold and ‘hot’ could’ve been hotter spice-wise, but it was still delicious and hasn’t put me off the restaurant at all. Staff can be a bit over-friendly but its part of the charm. Tasty cold beers, great food, garlic naan to die for! Will definitely return.

The first day of spring could not be celebrated in a better way - we were so happy to have discovered Maloncho Tandoori restaurant.

Food was amazing with great taste and very enjoyable with a large variety of food despite this there wasn’t the fastest of service due to popularity as it was busy but despite this it was definitely worth the money and the time and work for sure tell people about this restaurant

Maloncho tandoori, what to say for that restaurant!!! First time in Guilford and my friends recommend me that restaurant!!! To begin with, entering, the internal interior creates a friendly environment where you can dine. The members of the staff were so helpful especially giving all the appropriate answers for the questions that we had. First we ordered our drinks and they bring them very quickly, being quite pleasant for us! As starters, we ordered chicken chat puri which was so juicy, meat samosas and sheek kebab which was as spicy as we wanted and request to. The naan bread was fresh and very soft. As main dishes, we ordered chicken Karahi, so delicious, and lamb briyani, having together rice as side dice. However, in order a meal to end properly it needs a very good dessert. Thankfully the dessert was quite good. The check wasn't so high, kinda resonable for the Guilford price range. Summing up, in the positives of the night are the hospitality of the staff and the high quality of dishes. In negatives, to be honest there is nothing which can object. It was great dining experience and definitely I will go again and I will recommend that to anyone coming in Guilford.

An awful night. So disappointed. We waited an hour to place an order. Waited 40 mins for drinks. Didn’t get some of our drinks. Waited an hour to get and pay the bill. Service is appalling. On the way out a member of staff was eating food from the trolley that he had just cleared from a table in the restaurant!! Avoid it. I’m going back to the Raj.

Wanted to like it. Very disappointed.

We have experienced Maloncho’s food both in the restaurant and at home. The staff are all very helpful and the food is a delicious blend of exotic Indian spices, without needing to ‘blow your head off’. Eating in towards the end of the week may require booking as Maloncho can get very busy at popular times (deservedly so). We haven’t tried the Sunday Buffet, but have heard it is good value for money.

One of our party is dairy intolerant and the chap who served us went out of his way to make sure he was catered for, this chap has intolerance issues himself and fully understood the need to get this right! The food arrived in good time, was tasty and hot too, we've been before to Maloncho and no doubt we will be back again in the near future.

All the staff was very nice. We went to the restaurant without a reservation and they put all the possible effort to find a spot for us.

Went here recently with my parter. We both really enjoyed the restaurant and would definitely go back. The service was very good and friendly, both myself and my partner said respectively about our own curries that they were probably the best we had ever eaten. Would highly recommend the lamb shank curry and the garlic nann.

Visited with some friends some weeks ago, and was very impressed, food, service and value was excellent, well done, we'll definitely be coming back again.

Another superb evening. We had the veg balti, tarka Dahl and bringal bargee. The aubergines were soft and silky. The balti had a great smoky flavour. We started with poppodums and onion bargees. All very tasty, veg had a nice crunch and tasted fresh.

Booked this place for dinner before a show at Glive as it was close. Booked due to the good reviews on here.

Visited with friends but we were not particularly impressed by the food. Much better Indian restaurants in nearby Woking.

Had a great get-together with friends, service was friendly and the recommended specials were excellent.

Evening meal with a group of friends. The restaurant has been fairly recently refurbished, it is comfortable and stylish. Staff were friendly and efficient. All the food was beautifully presented and delicious. The table ordered a wide variety of starters and mains, I tried them all (friends are great), great depth of flavour and spice and ingredients fresh. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The chablis was very good and well priced. Maloncho is my new favourite Indian restaurant in the area.

Friendly staff who did their best to get us in without a reservation on a busy Friday night. Once we had our food, we could see why this place was so busy. Standard curry house options with some house specials. Will definitely return.

This was our first visit to Maloncho, and our first Indian Restaraunt in Guildford. I had booked a table for two on a Saturday evening, and on arrival two very friendly waiters took us to our table and took our coats.

Really enjoyed our meal at Maloncho. Very friendly waiters. Food was very good and lots of choice and decent size portions. Would definitely recommend.

Really good Indian many places just can not get the naga right but they managed it absolutely loverly I had the lamb and my partner vegetable both lovely. Staff very friendly and professional. Was slightly rushed but it was weekend before Xmas so this can be forgive.

The staff are very attentive and friendly! They made sure they topped us up with wine when necessary, offered more drinks with each course and made sure there was always water available on the table! Murshed was especially helpful! The food is exquisite and very good value for money! Would definitely recommend!

Turn right out of restaurant and cross road.High street is 8mins walk, going left. For Train station, go end of high street & 5 mins thereafter - following the river to the right.

I came at a very peak time on Saturday , I had no reservation however they worked hard to squeeze me in to a fine dinning experience there.

Went here on Guidlford's Xmas light switch on night, and when we arrived the place was packed. I had pre booked, and when we walked in we were greeted by 3 waiters, all friendly, smiling, and took us straight to our table. They were all good fun and attentive, despite it being so busy, and the food was excellent. This was my first visit here, and it won't be my last, i highly recommend it. We were a party of 3 middle aged guys, all drinking beer, over ordering food, and the bill was less than £85, which i consider good value compared to some other Indian restaurants i have used.

Booked online, a large table for a birthday meal. I had two or three calls to confirm numbers but it's understandable for an 8.30pm Friday night booking. Given that we were a large party the staff were friendly and attentive and the food was fantastic- various dishes were ordered, not one person was disappointed. We all thoroughly enjoyed it, great value for money, will definitely go back.

1st visit and would definitely go again. We had a table of 12 in for a birthday meal. Service was quick and attentive and the food delicious. Good price, great staff, comfortable surroundings

I went today for a quick lunch with friends. The food was good but nothing special. The service was very rude and they nearly kicked us out from the restaurant when they closed at 14:30. I definitely not going there anymore

Chose this on the basis of TA - A lot of the reviews seemed to have been bought so was a bit wary but the restaurant was comfortable, modern and relaxed, service attentive and all seven of us were very happy with the food. I had lamb shank with a spicy naan bread, rice and an brinjal bhaji; very tasty.

Our first time here, we had lamb shank, lamb briyani and chicken korma with papadom, rice and garlic naan bread.

Food was served quickly and tasted really good! We ordered the chicken tikka masala and the lamb madras with some naan bread and both were very flavourful and the portions were generous. The chutney and poppadoms we had for our starters were also a highlight. Cannot fault the service at all as the waiters were very friendly and attentive :))

As brummies living in Surrey, we find ourselves constantly searching for that one great curry house which is as good as home. Maloncho is one of our favourites in the area and definitely worth a try! The staff are really lovely and the food is always a good portion and delicious. Kingfisher on draught is a winner in my book too! I can highly recommend the chicken chilli masala which is spicy and so tasty. There is also a Sunday budget advertised, which we are yet to try, which sounds fab!

This is now my favourite Indian restaurant in Guildford. Excellent food, and great service even with a large group. Vegan friendly.

This location was exceptional, the food was perfect, service was excellent and the ambiance was upscale clean. The prices are typical for a good meal out. I paid about 15 pound and was definitely full. Will definitely be going back soon.

From mid August ‘17 onwards, I have been visiting Maloncho many times. At least on an average of eating in once every two weeks, I can say that I am impressed with the quality if the food served. Service is also very good every time.

Went on Friday night for a meal. Food good but service atrocious. I don’t appreciate having to wave to place an order, asking for the bill three times or leaving a decent tip and being given no kind of acknowledgement on the way out. Yep, the Maloncho magic has gone.

I reviewed this very positively in 2014. Over the past year or so it has gone completely down the pan. I agree with the previous review - the service is really surly.

Just had our last meal here before moving away from the area - a takeaway on this occasion, but have done both this and eaten in many times. When we started coming here the owner, Mr Noor, was often around and chatting happily with customers. And that set the tone for the overall service. Food was really good, decor was tired. Frankly, if one thing is going to slip, I don’t mind if it’s the decor.

This is an OK restaurant, but OK is the key here. Food nice enough, staff very distant. Sorry I am used to service in the NW where people are friendly

My husband and me have just had a takeaway covered in grease that was inedible.

We have never had a bad meal at this place. Never had a problem getting a table - even without a booking. Friendly staff and good food. Perfect.

Been here twice recently and not been let down food is very very good (especially the tandoori dishes) service attentive and polite and speedy. Would highly recommend!
