Maldron Hotel Derry in Derry

Rooms were of the generic cookie-cutter standard for Dalata’s 3-star offering via its Maldron brand, service (at reception) was good, but the hallway carpets stank of a combination of dried-in booze and / or puke and the bar was an absolute joke - £12 for 4 manky chicken wings with no sauce. Also, when I was checking out, the lift had a nervous breakdown, probably a side-effect of prolonged exposure to the stank of dried-in booze and/or puke, and decided to take me to completely random floors, including the basement, twice, before actually stopping at the Ground Floor. I got the strong sense it wanted to leave as much as I did. Great location to stumble back to after a night out….enjoying the amazingly friendly, and insanely fun, hospitality of Derry City’s local pubs and restaurants…..what a city and what amazing locals….just don’t expect much once you’re actually in the hotel! Burn, deep burn🔥

Sadly ruined 10th Anniversary due to people who could not handle their drink. We had our door banged twice once from a woman looking for another room and second time from a very drunk man in his underwear kicking, shouting and banging our door, which was quite a frightening experience which made me nervousabout leaving the room. I did have to ring reception and they rang back and assured me he had been removed from the premises but no other communication was made. Then at 3:30 am we were woken by shouting and arguing from another room. Unfortunately this ruined our anniversary and sadly I would not return. Staff are friendly and breakfast was very good I just wish their had been a bit more communication and consideration for our situation.

You get what you pay for. This was lovely stay staff where we'll mannered friendly. The food was on point.

The hotel was located perfectly central in the city. The staff were more than helpful and friendly. The breakfast and dinners were delicious. I couldn't fault this hotel at all and highly recommended 👌

Very friendly staff. Great food - amazing breakfast. Rooms warm with very comfortable bed. Not that important (but very useful) for me but very important for most people is the excellent WiFi. So central to everything and (very important to me) a place to park off the street.

Staff were all so friendly and welcoming. Room was beautiful and sparkling clean. The only complaint I could make was that the heating came on in the early hours of the morning and the room was too warm to sleep comfortably in. Would be better if it came on around 8 am or so for people waking up. Nothing else negative to say at all.

Rooms are not recently renovated, especially the bathrooms. We haven't tried anything that required service so we cannot judge, however the check in and check out were very smooth. Big advantage is the location

This is the second time we have stayed here. This hotel is fantastic, the hotel staff, from those on reception to the waiters and waitresses are all lovely, helpful, knowledgeable, and very pleasant. The rooms are all a very good size, clean, and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast is beautiful, with a fabulous selection of different fruit, cereals, pastries, and the cooked buffet breakfast is nothing short of superb, there is something for everyone. The hotel is in a brilliant location, with bars, restaurants, shopping centres, and shops all within 2/3 minute walk. You couldn’t ask for anything more from a hotel. We will definitely return again.

This was our second stay at the Maldron Hotel in Derry (this time for Derry Halloween; we were here two years ago for a short visit). The hotel is perfectly situated to enjoy this welcoming and historically interesting walled city. It's two minutes' walk to the Diamond, and less than a minute to Butcher Gate and the top of Waterloo Street. The Maldron staff are uniformly friendly, kind and helpful, and the rooms comfortably appointed. Our room, which overlooked the city walls and Bogside below, was reasonably quiet even given the Halloween celebration raging outside (it's quite a party). We did notice this stay that things are starting to look a bit careworn, fringing toward dingy, with stains on the carpets in the halls and room, marks on the walls, and a bathroom floor that didn't look convincingly clean. Having stayed here before, and at other Maldron hotels around Ireland, I'm willing to mark this down as an aberration and likely to be corrected. It's still the perfect place to stay, and when we come back to Derry, we'll certainly stay here again.

Had a lovely long weekend in Derry staying at the Maldron. The room was very comfortable, the meals were excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. I would return without worry.

Stayed last weekend found the hotel to be way understaffed for the weekend that was in it as it was the Music Festival weekend. The overworked staff were very pleasant the rooms were comfortable.

Attended function in main 'ballroom' only demerit was lack of staff to provide service otherwise good

The hotel overall is disgusting - stained, unvacuumed carpets in halls and stairwells, filthy bathroom with black grout, and to top it off we were stuck in a room with a view of rooftop ventilation units sitting in pools of algae. Total bait and switch, the room looked nothing like the pictures on the website. AVOID

We came by car, when booking we asked if there was a parking space. The hotel never responded to this question by email. The reception staff are cold and in a hurry to get rid of customers, speak too quickly and with an accent that is difficult to understand. The room is very simple. On the other hand, the carpet in the room is dirty.

We stayed for one night and overall had a great experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a little tired, however it was very spacious, well-equipped (iron, ironing board, tea and coffee, biscuits, shower gel and shampoo), and the beds were comfortable. It was also in a very good location. Good value for money, would definitely stay again.

Perfect location for a quick visit to Derry. Easy to get around the city and staff were extremely helpful.

The cleanliness in the bathroom and the public areas are unacceptable. The hotel claims to be 4-star and has tariffs reflecting that, but it clearly doesn't deserve this rating. Breakfast was very good. Overall the hotel needs much better maintenance. Management need to step up and get the total package at a similar level.

The hotel is conveniently centrally located. It is clean, staff professional and polite, provides limited car parking and has its own bar and grill. Family size rooms are available with great city and wall views even from the first floor. Our family room was spacious, the beds comfortable and contained amenities of bottled waters, electric kettle, tea and instant coffee. The bathroom was spacious and provided shampoo and body wash. We relaxed and enjoyed our stay. It can be a bit loud at night due to the location along the walls where people may be walking and chatting. The room doors shut quickly and very loudly so it was a constant banging in the morning up and down the halls.

Good hotel, service very friendly, free parking space in the underground car park (if you're lucky, we had it), restaurant with a good menu. Food very tasty, prices fair, friendly service here too. If they had put some money into renovating the bathroom it would have been 5 stars....

Great place. I did not find any issuses. May be a hand shower in the barh tub would add further comfort.

Large rooms, perfect location next to the Derry Wall and very good breakfast. Great hotel near the Bogside, murals and bar.

A night away to celebrate my Birthday. Staff friendly & helpful. Breakfast excellent. Bar staff ( Maia & Kirsty) knowledgeable & very friendly. Over looking the City Walls.

Seats in main bar were badly stained. On one of the busiest weekends of the year there was only 2 bar staff serving and then used plastic glasses which I noticed a lot of guests weren't happy about, especially those drinking Guinness including myself. Parking was first come first served so no parking available for the majority of guests.

We had a power shower in our bathroom which was great.

We love staying at the Maldron Derry as it is so central to everything. The hotel bar isn't very busy and the upholstery on the chairs could do with a good clean they are very badly stained was like that last year too when we were staying there. It would be nice if there were vending machines that worked on each floor.

Having stayed in the Maldron before, we knew exactly what to expect during our short stay. The room was great, spotless, and very comfortable. The food was faultless with the staff so friendly and efficient. Out the main entrance and down the side street to a number of great wee pubs so location was great. Looking forward to going back again during the summer

The Maldron Hotel is located in the heart of Derry. Excellent location, we went for an event in The Nerve Centre so this location was perfect for the four of us. We encountered friendly team throughout from reception to the bar where we had dinner. Nice tasty food. The hotel hire very well, with a naturally friendly team. The car park was full on arrival, however we got a space nearby so it didn't impact our stay.
