Major Toms Social in Harrogate

We visited here in half term and took our dog and 9 year old grandson. All were welcome. This place is very relaxed and an easy atmosphere. The food is great. There are games to play as well. An enjoyable visit. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Great short visit last week - very much enjoyed beers (especially the raspberry and chocolate stout) on offer. Service was excellent - very friendly. Food was available but didn't try on this occasion. Loved the decor and would imagine a buzz later as we visited early on a Thursday teatime. Would deffo recommend a visit.

Popped in mid afternoon on a Saturday. Didn't eat but the pizzas looked very tasty and smelled delicious. Sat by the window and watched the world below.

A lovely open space of a pub. Dog friendly. Great beer selection. Would be great to see a craft cider on tap too. Friendly staff.

Good beer in a nice quirky place

Lovely pizzas good price and drinks very reasonable. Lovely simple, spacious bar with pleasant staff. Only negative is it’s very cold in the winter months.

Nice place, loads of seating and we enjoyed the selection of board games in the corner.

Retro industrial. Good music. Eclectic furnishings with great wall decor. Nice and airey.

I had to edit this review as we popped back in for another visit! This time we had a couple of cocktails and bought pizza! The margaritas were great, but the pizza was amazing. Many thanks AGAIN This was a really funky bar and the pizzas looked amazing. Loads of different beers on offer and from breweries close to Harrogate. These three tasted great. Many thanks

Only had a beer so can't comment on the pizzas but they looked decent! Quirky place full of strange nik naks and movie posters on the walls.

Great slightly bonkers atmosphere, with friendly staff. Impressive beer choice kept in good Nick. Tasty pizzas.

Booked a table for eight people on Saturday. The restaurant confirmed the booking two days in advance. I got a call ten minutes before we were due to arrive to tell us that the restaurant had run out of pizza dough and could not make any in time to serve before the kitchen closed. Hard to understand how a restaurant that knows well in advance how many diners it is going to have can run out of something as basic as pizza dough, but I guess these things happen. What was utterly unforgivable was notifying me so late that it was impossible to get in anywhere else. The restaurant has a great vibe and the food is excellent, but this kind of treatment is pretty poor.

Such a great place! The staff were so friendly. We had a great time here winding down after Thoughtbubble comic art festival.

Just brilliant, everything about the place..cannot pick a fault even if I tried.

Really cool place, friendly staff, nice choice of beers and decent pizza. Only disappointment is that we went as a family to play some games but pretty much all the games are incomplete, no instructions and not looked after so we couldn't really play many.

We visited for a pint after a days shopping in Harrogate and ended up staying for a few more drinks and pizza. The atmosphere was amazing, reminded me of when I was a student many years ago, brilliant music and laid back vibe. Absolutely made our stay in Harrogate, we will definitely be back !

Qwirky place and great items in the vintage shop, spent agess looking which thankfully has a bar upstairs for my husband to sit so I wasn't rushed

This place does not have the vibe it used to buy it is still a good place to have a decent beer and the pizzas are excellent

Lovely craft ale bar above a vintage shop. A heavy student vibe, but certainly no worse for that. Recommended.

Something a bit different. Had two pizzas and wine. We liked the feel of the place. Food was lovely and reasonably priced. Service was fine.

We chose this place as it was dog friendly, and didn’t have chips with everything. We walked up the stairs to the entrance, but there was a closed sign on the door, We walked in and asked the girl sitting doing prep work if they were open and she said they were. The decor was very rough around the edges look. We ordered at the bar, and the food didn’t take too long. The place was empty apart from a large group off to the side who appeared to just be there for drinks. Overall the food was good, but the service was non existent.

This was a great little find when visiting the area. A quirky bar with a laid back atmosphere and great pizza and beer options; even happier to find that kids eat for free on a Sunday (and their pizzas almost the same size as ours). Really good salad too.

Very happy with the overall experience. Nice selection of beers, food tasty and well prepped. Had pizza of the week, salad and some kids pizzas. Great pizza base and fresh toppings. Staff friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Visited while on a weekend stay, teatime just opened so very quiet. Quirky interesting place above a vintage clothing emporium. Unbelievably friendly, helpful, funny, barmaid? person? staff behind the bar gave us loads of info regarding the area even to recommending where to have brekky the following day. Give it a go if your in town.

If you're hungry (and thirsty!) and happen to be in Harrogate, I suggest you visit Major Tom's Social, tucked away in 3 The Ginnel. Fantastic pizza and a very interesting drinks selection. Great place and I will definitely be returning!

Stopped here based on a recommendation by the guesthouse. Love the pizza and great (chilled vibe). The barman even gave me a few tasters of the local ale as I'm new to the UK. and took his time to explain each one. Will definitely be back.

I visited as I was recently in Harrogate for a conference. I got a takeaway pizza and salad and a beer. The barman was happy to show me some different beers and was very friendly and professional. Pizza was ready exactly when they said it would be and was delicious, lovely thin base and creamy mozzarella. Will be back if I am ever in the area again.

The food at Major Tom's is always great. But the service, every single time we come, is dreadful. We always hope it will be better, but SO many members of the staff are rude and unhelpful (which is even more ridiculous considering it isn't table service). They were actually sat having a pint rather than serving customers on our last visit. It's been this way for years - definitely needs to be sorted out.

Great fun ,and a step into wild beers. Some are cracking and some are silly. Most are nice. Relaxed.. Smashing pizza😊

Okay……Harrogate town centre bar. Three pints of very poor IPA…..£20.40. The beer was ‘fizzing’ and very nasty. Only drank a mouthful. Really do avoid…..

The place is a bit "hidden" but it's worth the detour for sure. The atmosphere is amazing, the food was great, it was pretty quick, the prices are low and the quality is high and the options are numerous. Loved it and would go back for sure next time I'm in Harrogate.

Absolutely fantastic pizzas and beer - and the team fitted our group in last minute. Best pizza i've had in a long time. Will be back!

We came here for lunch & were very impressed with the pizzas! Absolutely delicious and were even better than the last time we ate here. Would highly recommend - though you do have to wait a while for them as they are made to order. Most people relax & play board games so it has a nice chilled out vibe. Also the amazing vintage/retro shop Space is downstairs which is a must place to visit when in Harrogate!

One of the best selections of beer from all over the world and the pizzas are absolutely cracking. Love a quiet Sunday afternoon for a pint & pizza with my wife while we play Jenga. 👌🏻

Great pizza, family and dog friendly

Great beer, good pizza, friendly staff.

Great range of beer on casks and kegs plus numerous bottles. The beer menu is on an old skool school chalk board. The decor is superb and plenty of memorabilia on the walls. The bar is upstairs and above a quirky looking shop. Definitely worth a visit.

Somewhere a bit different in a good way. Great selection of beer. Their pizzas are good with some vegan options.

I have now read the recent reviews and can see there is a common problem here: the staff. They were unhelpful to the point of being rude, acting as if they were doing me a favour by letting me spend my money here. Everything was too much trouble and they could not be bothered. Good pizza was let down by poor service. Someone needs to give this place a good shake up. Will not choose to return

A well established bar/social venue. Lovingly themed in a retro style. It's fairly unpretentious and diverse, as long as you can get up the stairs (I don't think there's a lift). It's also dog friendly. The drinks tend to be a really interesting selection, with a lean to craft and independent breweries. There are non-alcoholic beer options. The food is good, although pretty much limited to pizza or a couple of salads. There are several vegan pizza options. As it's open plan, it can be pretty loud at busy times - difficult to have a quiet conversation.

Great beer and tasty pizzas. Lovely atmosphere, however general space a bit chilly, but understandable in these hard times! Always a favourite when I have the opportunity to visit.

Friendly atmosphere and good service

We popped into Major Tom Antisocial at about 5pm on Friday and had not been warned that before sunset a force field operates around the vicinity of the bar which evidently prevents the staff from coming out from behind it and helping patrons. Finding ourselves hungry we went over to the bar and (politely) asked the young chap and his female accomplice if we could order food and if so could we get a menu please. It was not sundown yet so although the force field was active we could still see the staff clearly behind the bar. The female accomplice eventually responded to our polite question. "...The menus in the box over there..." (Finger wag) When we looked "over there" there was in fact no box. So that led us to wonder was it her accent or abrupt demeanor or were we just stupid and just couldn't see "the box". That got us to wondering did she in fact mutter "The menus on the board over there?". We checked "the board" and that just had the drinks menu on it which left us still hungry and now in the scary situation of having to look stupid and ask for a menu again. This time the male staffer popped up with the gem "It's over there in the box!" Clearly the force field prevented both of them coming out from behind the bar and doing anything useful or constructive for their hungry patrons. Instead the male staffer adopted a 180 degree posture and lent forward over the bar, carefully avoiding the force field, only to realise "the box" (containing said menus) had not been put out that day. We just hope these staff can be saved and the forcefield deactivated in time to save this poor business from itself.

First of the pizzas are to die for! Mooving on the beer is so tasty . And it's lonely to see a bar with out a any tasteless mainstream Beers on th taps and instead a beautiful array of lovely golden beery juices 🤟

Cracking little find - in Harrogate for the first time and just stopped in to see what it's all about. Amazing setting with a great 'feel', knowlegable & friendly staff, pretty busy even on a Monday and great selection of beers at a reasonable price - can't go wrong!

Went for the pizza which was tasty. 4 vegan options 👍 Staff were friendly. The temperature was a touch cool and it isn't a cosy place but good for food and drink.

Went for pizza here with my husband and his colleagues. Great trendy bar with quirky decor. I ordered an anchovy pizza and my husband had the n'duja pizza with a side salad. The pizzas were lovely and rustic and very tasty, others in our party ordered dough balls which looked and smelled lovely! The only criticism is of the salad we received, I would have preferred a lighter dressed fresher salad, what we received was a bit drowned in the dressing and a bit non descript. This is just a minor criticism, we would definately recommend and will be returning.

Good informal atmosphere. Great pizza with plenty of menu options including vegan. Good selection of craft beer. Friendly staff. Recommended.

Very disappointed! Always liked this bar & have visited on many occasions. Tonight queried the price of a beer & was told it was £4.00 for a half a pint. When it came to pay, I was told he'd made a mistake & the price was in fact £6.00 for the half. When I said I wouldn't have purchased it if I'd have known it was so expensive I was told "I can't pour it back" & that 'I could either pay for it or leave'......So I left. The fact that there were 12 of us, pre booked as part of our Christmas party, who were all planning to eat, you have lost out on a substantial amount of revenue for the sake of £2.00, which could have been resolved easily. I'm absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated. You've lost a good customer + 11, as we will not be visiting again.

A hidden gem to us as visitors, perhaps a well kept secret amongst the locals! Excellent variety of pizzas & all homemade on the premises. Definitely some of the best pizza we've had. Great value for money. Friendly staff, a good independent pizza restaurant/bar. The board games & large tables are a bonus! Would recommend.

Asked a guy if we could sit at the table that was just being vacated, he checked and said it wasn’t reserved so it was fine. After 20 mins a girl came across and flung a Reserved sign on it. No comment, no eye contact. I said excuse me but we were told that this table wasn’t reserved. She replied “it is now”. We moved and I ordered a pizza which was delivered by same girl and flung at me, no eye contact or “here’s your pizza, enjoy, etc etc. If I hadn’t arranged to meet friends there i would have left. Won’t be back in a hurry.

Pizza, beer, friendly staff, chilled canteen vibe.

We've been to Major Tom's Social a few times. It's a quirky bar above a vintage clothing and record store. There's lots of interesting things to look at! They have a huge selection of ales, craft beer, and cider. They have a good wine selection. They also serve delicious pizzas. It's always had a cosy and comfy vibe previously. When we went last night they had a DJ playing, which was a bit too loud for me, as we could hardly hear each other. Overall, would still definitely recommend. Edit: been here today and it's still great, would absolutely recommend.

Came here over thought bubble weekend for quiz night, drinks and pizza. The pizza is very nice with fresh ingredients. It's a little on the pricey side for drinks but this might just be a Harrogate thing! Would recommend for veggie and vegan options too...
