Such a warm welcome as soon as you walk in. Staff are very smart and professional. The venue has been recently renovated to a high standard clean and welcoming. As for the food that was exceptional. I have eaten in many Indian restaurants and this has to be rated as one of the best and very good value for money. Keep up the excellent work guys we will definitely be back - worth the trip from Hertfordshire.

Absolutely gorgeous curry; best korma I’ve had. Naan lovely-picked up a meal for my sister & I sat night. We always eat curries and this was up there! The guys in restaurant were so so polite & friendly, professional-thank you & keep up the excellent work guys x

Really bad food. Mattar paneer was not proper Indian cheese just some stringy yellow stuff melted in the sauce. Also had a weird sweet flavour as did two of the curries. (They didn’t even contain coconut and I have no idea why). The prawns in the prawn curry were dry & over cooked. The chicken curries contained a few pieces of chicken drowned in a slurry type sauce. Horrible. My brother said even if he’d had eight pints he wouldn’t have wanted it.

Disappointing. We made a reservation to have dinner here, they took our note and when we arrived the establishment was closed. They refer you to another restaurant a few meters down the street with much higher prices. Bad quality-price ratio. Very few dishes. They shouldn't manipulate the customer like that.

The food was excellent. The service was exceptional and staff were very friendly. Definitely recommend and will be going back next time we are in the area.

We had a take away. Collecting our order meant we got a free side dish. The food was ready at the time stated and was delicious. One of the best curries I’ve had in ages!

We visited here twice on our four days in Rye, that should speak for itself. The service and food here is incredible. The owner can't do enough to help you, even dropping your takeaway order to us in a local pub. My partner is very particular with his curry and finally found the perfect chicken madras, along with everything else we tried (and trust me he's tried a lot of curry). Pleased to have supported such a great small restaurant we'll be back for sure when we're back down that way.

My husband had a lamb curry, which he enjoyed. There wasn't very much on the menu for me as a vegan. Even the dhal included dairy. The waiter was quite indignant that they catered for vegans well, given that they had no specialist vegan chefs. I think this is a narrow minded cop out. In my experience, if you can make good curry, you can make good vegan curry, and that definitely wouldn't include frozen mixed veg! Far too many Indian restaurants do this. Fresh potatoes, onions, tomatoes, cauliflower, carrots and aubergines are readily available. There were no vegan starters. This too is a cop-out. They're just not interested, and it is likely that the bhaji mix has been pre-prepared. we've had freshly made pakora in several Indian restaurants that do care and can be bothered. From what we could tell, their 'fine dining' sister restaurant 'Mahdi Lounge' has a very similar menu, equally non-vegan friendly, the only difference being that the ambience is slightly better and they charge more. Disappointing.

Visited here whilst staying in Rye fur the weekend. Staff accommodating, Nice food, service slow due to takeaway service. Think this should just be a restaurant or takeaway not both!

Found ourselves in Rye and saw both restaurants but decided to visit this one. Definitely not disappointed with our choice and the food was simply excellent and we would both recommend and would eat here again.

We have lived in Rye for 9 years and have been good customers and have always given good reviews most of the time because of their food... we ordered our normal order tonight for a take away and wanted to pay at the door... machine wasnt working as usual but when they phoned to take our payment they asked for an extra eight pounds!!! We were told the price of our meal at time of ordering was as usual and they then said that the menu prices went up at 5pm and we ordered our meal at 5.33pm and were not informed of this...spoke to the person on the phone about this and were told that we had a new menu with our meal which we did not have ... had one of the items missing!! We had no new menu and were not told of the new prices!!

I've been here for 3 weeks from South Africa and our dinner at the Madri Lounge was outstanding and the most authentic I have expected in the UK. The service was excellent and the whole experience was fantastic. Will definitely be back. 10/10. Chantal Smythe

Visited while on holiday in Rye. We have a favourite Indian restaurant at home which has always been the standard against which all others are measured. Mahdi Spice has smashed that!! Fabulous food, great service, good value. Just wish we lived nearer to be able to visit again. Well done to all the staff - a delicious meal which will be hard to beat! Recommend the Modhu chicken and coconut rice.

Decided to visit Mahdi Spice on the spur of the moment on the first night of our holiday in Rye. Great decision! Food was first class. Generous portions, well presented and competitively priced. Have no hesitation in recommending.

Great food fair prices served hot by happy welcoming staff. Can't ask for more. Menu choices extended by the team with some nice creations like a red dip for poppadoms that was very nice and mango better than most I have tried. Eat in or takeaway very busy and popular with locals. Well done.

2022, had another meal here and as good as ever staff are so good. I hadn't booked but was given a table anyway. Lovely all round, thank you again.

Order at 5.30pm for deliver at 7.30 turned up at 8.15pm food was cold. Not very good my prawn dansak was like water. Will not be using again. Was pleased in the past defiantly gone down hill.

We were staying in Rye and telephoned and booked a table to avoid disappointment. The staff here were so friendly and the food was very nice and average priced. We dined early (19:30) and most people that came in whilst we were there were walk-ins. They have another restaurant further up in the street and when we passed this on our way back to the hotel it was packed. Very popular establishment.

Been here before and the food was great. This was our 3rd visit and unfortunately it was below expectation. The food was good, the front of house staff were good but the delivery was so slow. Took 1.5 hours from order to mains on the plate. Had to chase the food a few times but were told it was because takeaway was busy. Raised it with the manager who whilst listened to the feedback, looked annoyed to receive it. Pretty disappointing, was a meal that meant a great deal, so frustrating that it was sub-par, and that when dissatisfaction was raised, there was no acceptance accountability and that as the customer it felt like we were being unreasonable. Feedback, understand the experience of your customer and if they're Frank enough to give you fair feedback, take it on the chin. It's a shame as previous experiences were great.

Tasty food but very long wait for service.

Fantastic food great service, if you want a good Indian restaurant look no further. Not tried the takeaway but if anything like the restaurant you will not be disappointed.

Simply the best curry we've had in years. I had a pathia with pilau rice, my wife chose fish curry with lemon rice, with a couple of side dishes. The pathia was sweet and hot, as it should be, and everything was just great. It's very difficult to match these flavours at home, I wish I knew the secret. The staff were attentive to just the right degree. Value for money was very good too.

OK so we’re from Leicester so maybe a little spoilt…used to an amazing choice of great curries…. But every dish we ordered was frankly tasteless. Really disappointing.

Very disappointing. Each curry had the same overpowering sweetness with just a different colour. The raita yogurt almost looked as if it had expired. Was shocked as the reviews were so good but would definitely not recommend this place for those who are looking for authentic Indian/Bangladeshi food.

We ordered a takeaway in May 2021. Paid £96 for two bags of cold poor Indian food. The food was very bland and of very low quality. It arrived 25 minutes late although I ordered it 24 hours in advance. There was one dish missing....

Collected a take away which was cold by the time I got home. Portion size was very small and the tikka masala tasted more like a korma. We last ate here 6 months ago and it was terrible then so no improvements and I won't be recommending this place to anyone. Very over priced. Disappointing

Quite simply the best curry we’ve had for a very long time. The owner was Uber polite and friendly and every dish we had was superb.

It has been a few years since dining in or delivery. We ordered take away Saturday night as we were fishing nearby, they did offer to deliver to the entrance to the fishery but they were extremely busy and delivery time was predicted an hour. So decided to collect the meals. And wow was they busy with both phones constantly receiving orders. Taking that into consideration our meals were pipping hot when I drove back to the fishery a few miles away. And we both enjoyed all of the dishes which were delicious and good portion size too! I will definitely be taking my wife to their other restaurant the Mahdi lounge for a lunchtime meal soon. And ordering takeaway on my next fishing trip. Thanks Karim and the team at Mahdi spice.

5* food. Large portions, very tasty. Excellent texture and the food smelt and looked delicious. I had garlic chicken Naga extra hot (Phal hot) and my partner had chicken tikka masala. Both curries were perfect. I recommend trying the garlic Naga... The flavours are mesmerising! Naan bread were great too. Faultless meal. We've also visited the restaurant in the past and can't knock it. Best in Rye for sure.

Best tasting curry I have ever had! Garlic Chicken Naga with added chilli (Phal hot)... Beautiful taste and texture and a very generous portion! I'll be back for sure!

we ordered a motor paneer which is supposed to have paneer cheese and peas in a sauce. It had neither and the sauce was sickly sweet. Also had a vegetable biriyani which was passable. The mushroom bhaji was good. Very disappointing. Won't be doing that again

Ambiance and cleanliness were of a high standard. Service was a bit slow in taking our order but this was Valentine's day and very full, so one might expect that.Since this restaurant has been taken over from the Gandhi, I thought the standard had deteriorated in terms of value for money and flavour of cooking.I usually have Chicken Dansak which I love. However I was disappointed in that dish here. It was very sweet and not hot enough. The coconut rice was also too sweet and the whole experience left me with a cloying taste in my mouth.

Went there last night with good friends who have eaten there before, but not for a couple of years. Were there to celebrate my Husbands new job. Food arrived and put on warmers. My dish put in front of me. Had to wait several minutes for rice to arrive. Waited so that we could all eat together as only polite. All in all food was barely warm. Icing on the cake was when I noticed they had served us a non-alcoholic beer that had an expiry date of NOV 2019! Apologised and said beers delivered only last week and would speak with supplier. Took 10% off our bill. Ruined the evening wondering if we would be ill - I was during the night funnily enough. Afraid we wont be returning. Have eaten at their sister restaurant but the lighting is so incredibly dim that we struggled to read the menu. Such a shame.

Food was expensive - £5 for 4 little onion bhajis and charged £1.70 for 2 poppadoms! Staff member took our order for drinks, then we continued to start to list the food items we wanted and was told he just wanted our drinks order - he came back with the drinks then made us wait another 10 mins before taking our food order on a tablet. Cramped in a corner and was not helped out (by moving table forward) for me to exit although he could see I was struggling to escape without distracting other diners. Not great and not worth the food - butter chicken was also rubbery cheap tasting chicken - a real shame

Visited here with 2 friends on around January 4th. Had an excellent meal. The staff were very polite, knowledgeable and professional. It was a quiet weekday night. I was actually visiting from Hong Kong. And this place was better than anything I have had out here. This is THE quality benchmark for Indian food anywhere from Ashford to Hastings. Just go!!

were made to feel extremely welcome by the friendly staff here, and the food was very good. i would say a little on the expensive side- i had a pint of lime and soda as was driving and it came to £3.75 which i thought was excessive. but the currys, sides and breads were all very flavourful so i will definately go back

ビール1杯そしてビールに合うと感じたエビのおつまみ的なもの、サラダとマトンカレーそしてナンを食べました。11月中旬の土曜日、雨模様の昼下がりという状況なので、ライの町自体閑散として、このお店もお客さんは誰もいなかった。インド人スタッフが1名、最初はお客と思っていたがウエイターでした。店を開けると、席に座っていた彼がドアに近づいてきて対応し始めました。思った以上にフレンドリーな対応でよかった。注文もてきぱきと、サービスも時間がかからず、まのびしないでよかった。

Great food, excellent service from the friendly staff who are knowledgeable about allergens. I enjoyed the mixed vegetable special which they were happy to spice up a bit with fresh chillis. On the other hand it was a little chilly in the restaurant in the freezing weather conditions and the only other issue was a couple of undercooked spuds which the excellent staff more than made up for by immediately providing Bombay potatoes for us. Overall a tasty and excellent value meal and I recommend a visit if in Rye.

Booked a table as read it was busy, a good idea as it was, a good sign. Had poppadoms to start, they were served quickly and with a good selection of dips, our mains were served just as quick and they were of a hearty size. We had 2 birianis a side dish and a naan bread, they were very tasty but we couldn't eat it all due to the large portions, a couple of beers and wine was also had which was also served quickly, staff were very welcoming and efficient without being too intrusive, average price compared to other places, would highly recommend and would visit again

We had a lovely Indian meal at the Mahdi Spice on Sunday evening recently. The place wasn't very full and we had the full attention of the three waiters who looked after us extremely well.

We were expecting more with all the great reviews. The delivery arrived quickly, the food was fresh and nice and hot, but almost all the dishes were a bit bland. Have had much better!
