Mag's Japanese Cafe in Chorley

Very sorry that Mag has retired. But not to despair. It's replacement in the shape of Nishi Sushi is at leasst as good. Nishi Sushi is more too than just a great place for sushi. A wide range of delicious starters and mains options besides sushi. Veggies well-catered for.

Its taken a while. We always intended to visit when Mags operated in the centre of Preston. If you love fresh food cooked with love and served with a smile, this is a hidden gem. Forget your middle of the road generic restaurants and support a local independent business. We called in on the spur of the moment to grab some lunch to take away. Half an avocado roll, half a prawn tempura roll (thats about 10 large pieces of sushi in total) and a beef ramen to share. It was more than enough food. The added bonus was the huge smile on our faces when we had finished. Total price was £15 I would recommend ordering the day before. More if you want fresh fish in any of the dishes. I promise its worth it. The cafe is small (and it is just a cafe). Probably 4 tables of 4. The only downside is that Mags shuts at 18.00. Not ideal if you want to eat fresh Japanese for your evening meal but totally understandable as this is a lifestyle business.

Lovely little cafe Pall Mall Chorley. Relaxed friendly atmosphere. Delicious fresh food. Mags the perfect host and offered recommendations first time visit. Will definitely go again

The food is delicious and authentic, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The only issue I can see with this place is that it's so quiet - there's not enough people here to enjoy the experience of dining here! I can imagine that this may be due to the pandemic, but if you're out and about feeling peckish this place is definitely a must!

Mag is very helpful and will answer all queries about the food. She'll try to cater for particular variations to the meals offered if it's possible to do so. Quick, efficient service and the food is delicious. Great veggie offering too.

What I great place for Japanese food everything freshly made by Mags she recommended starters and we weren't disappointed the mains were absolutely delicious. Wish I had taken some photos but completely forgot I was enjoying my food so much you must try a turmeric latte unbelievable. I cant wait to go again ..

After reading good reviews of this place I paid it a visit yesterday and what an absolute gem of a place. The food is superb and all freshly cooked. I had Pork Goyosos for starters which were very good, and a superbly fresh Pork Donbury for mains. Such a reasonable price for an excellent meal. Only small inside, 7 tables, but most of her trade is takeaways. Only 50p for a can of diet coke. Tastes like Wagamama used to when it first set up before it was taken over and became average and at a fraction of the price. Pay a visit you will be glad you did.

Keep passing and meaning to go out n, we did today and weren't disappointed. Very small, but we expected it. Mag is lovely and food is delicious.perfect Prawn tempura, and very tasty pork guoyza. I had chicken katsu which was simply divine, ny partner had a chicken rice dish which I forget it's name, but was also very nice. Very filling, very happy, we will be back, and I need to try your Saturday sushi

I tend not to leave reviews on here but this place is special, legitimately the best food I've eaten in a restaurant in Chorley and as good as pretty much anywhere I've been in Manchester etc. Don't eat food made by people who don't care about what they're making - food is an art and Mag cares. Meal was £29 for 2 of us including 2 half sushi rolls, two large and filling soups, and 3 drinks and was worth every penny! Casual dining, clean, neat, and as charming as it gets! Thank you

What a wonderful little place this is and unbelievably on Pall Mall!Freshly cooked authentic food. The lady who does it all is delightful and extremely helpful and polite.Covid practices are in place, better than most.We can't wait to go again and are recommending to everyone

If you're a vegetarian or vegan in the area you need to visit Mags! The food is delicious. The service is super friendly. A lovely little place. Our new favourite place!

Went for lunch today and food was delicious. Very safe and clean with all Covid guidance in place. The owner is absolutely perfect-polite and nothing too much trouble. The food was delicious-all fresh ingredients and made to order. What a treat to have such a lovely Japanese cafe in Chorley. Please support as it would be terrible to lose this fantastic venue especially now we have just found it. Thank you for a lovely lunch and see you soon. It was on our radar to try Mags then lockdown hit us. Finally got to try it on Friday and what an absolute delight it was. Friendly service and the food was just amazing. We will be regular visitors now.

I’ve been here a number of times and have had a number of different meals - all have been exceptional. The sushi is delicious and the hot meals are all amazing, we’ve eaten the chicken teriyaki udon, ramen and vermicelli noodles. Portions always leave us full and the menu is extensive with good prices to eat-in or takeaway. Lovely cafe and will return soon. Most importantly, Mags is an amazing hostess and goes to lengths to ensure you have a great time, she completes the experience. 10/10

Took my 12 year old for his first Japanese meal at the wonderful Mags. This isn’t ‘just’ a cafe, this is a little special hub where you can get the healthiest freshest tastiest Japanese meal at any time of the day through to early evening. We went at tea time , straight after work. In Mags little, but perfectly functional cafe 3 others were being served. The menu was spot on particularly if you’d never tried Japanese cuisine or simply wanted the freshness of good honest food. We had starters of vegetable gyoza and aubergine in teriyaki sauce followed by king prawn tempura donburi and chicken katsu curry. Delicious, really delicious. Washed down with a pear tea and a hot citrus yuzu drink. Whilst the seating area is that of a cafe the food is certainly that which you would expect served up in ‘fancy’ restaurant. Thank you Mags, it was excellent!

First visit and can’t wait to go back. Such a great little independent. Lovely food and lovely service. Brilliant choices for vegetarians and vegans. Had the Miso Tofu Donburi which was delicious and so well presented. Will be back for some Ramen soon.

Lovely cafe which serves a wide variety of Japanese food including sushi (you need to pre order they make it fresh!) They also do takeaway would highly recommend

Excellent value, very tasty, been a few times now. Japanese chef, so I assume its authentic. I'd recommend the Udon noodles rather than the normal ones. Only drawback is they close about 6.30pm, but still worth 5/5.

Customer service and food absolutely fantastic. Tucked away in Chorley town center, an absolute must visit. I had the Duck Ramen and Sushi and was amazed at the quality, the flavours, the portion size and most of all the value for money. i will be returning very soon, taking my laptop (as there is WiFi) and doing some work whilst enjoying great food.

A no frills affair with high quality food and friendly service make this a somewhat hidden gem that we'll be visiting more often. Highly recommend the gyoza.

Had a really tasty (and healthy) lunch here. Beef veg rice and miso soup was awesome. They do proper matcha tea too!

Took my daughters here for a treat, had a great time trying to use chopsticks! The food was lovely, lots of veggie choices staff friendly and interesting marble drinks!

Mags Japanese has been amazing during my every visit. I often try and order something different to try other items on the menu and none of them have ever disappointed. Visit if you're in the Chorley are!

Ordered a selection of dishes including a serving of sushi. It didn't feel like we were eating a takeaway as it was all so fresh and didn't leave us with that awful bloat that others do. All dishes were delicious but highly recommend the Vegetable Gyoza, teriyaki udon and the sushi rolls. Home cooked authentic food cooked and served by the loveliest if ladies. Well done, we will be back ❣️❣️

Wasn't sure what to expect when visiting but was blown away by the food. All food is cooked fresh to order and is absolutely stunning and the staff helpful and friendly.

We went here saturday afternoon, and ordered all of the vegan starters, plus some different noodle dishes for mains.

We have been coming for a while, ever since it opened and every time we walked away everyone has been pleased. Margret was really nice and so was her food!

I had read sushi had to be ordered in advance, so I did. Margaret was lovely. Very helpful and empathetic. Will definitely come back

The best place to eat out in Chorley. Authentic Japanese food, fresh and tasty! Mag's is super friendly and very accommodating. Good options for vegetarians. We have been here several times now and the food is always made to perfection. Such delicious food and 100 percent better than chain restaurants. 5 star food and service.

Popped in today for our lunch. It was almost full ten minutes later with all the people saying they had read about this on social media. The service was very polite and friendly with a clear explanation of the menu for the unsure.

Out of the way a bit and still fairly new. Lovely meal and very reasonable prices. Easily better than the chain restaurants and will visit again.

I brought my kids here for lunch post uniform shopping in the school holidays. The place was very quiet but I really can't see why. My reluctant fussy eater tried the chicken katsu curry as she'd had it elsewhere and my eat-everything if it stays still long enough eater ordered Tempura Squid Ten Don. I had the same but prawns instead.

We visited on a Friday tea time. Mags was really busy and on her own.....but she was amazing and very caring and attentive. Her food was so flavoursome and fresh and her green tea is very authentic and strong. We felt like we had done well on saving the air fair to Japan as it was a real experience and saved all the fuss of packing and customs....seriously though this lady deserves to do well she is so hard working and her cafe is excellent...well done Mags xx

We came here tonight the food was absolutely fantastic. Mags makes everything from fresh if you want some tasty Japanese food this is the place to come.

We visited the restaurant after seeing the review, food is very tasty and well priced. We had prawn tempura rice dish and chicken curry, very well prepared. Mag is a very friendly lady. It's a very cozy family restaurant!

Casual drop in this afternoon and really glad we did. Absolutely delicious food and Mag was lovely, very welcoming with great service, she did everything herself taking orders and cooking and became very busy. The food was exceptional, we had Gyoza, chicken katsu and vegetable noodles in oyster sauce, all the food was really tasty. We will definitely be returning! Can see this place becoming very popular.

You don't really expect to find a Japanese cafe five minutes from the centre of Chorley (just walk down Pall Mall and it's on your right). It's very cosy with room for about 15-20 customers. We decided to share two starters and one main. We chose pork gyoza (4), dumplings, with a salad garnish and soy sauce and king prawn tempura (3) with a garnish and sweet chilli sauce. Our main course, thick Udon noodles stir-fried with chicken in a delicious teriyaki sauce, was excellent. Everything was well presented; it all tasted fresh and home-made. Quality rather than quantity. Together with a coke and a mug of jasmine tea, it all came to a reasonable £17. Recommended!

NIce little hidden gem of Chorley. Somewhere very different from your usual food places in Chorley. Very intimate and great fresh food.

First visit there today and enjoyed the food very much. Excellent in fact. Also helpful with the choice of Japanese teas available.

Such delicious food! I've been 3 times now and the food every time has been amazing. I've ordered various dishes and I still don't have a favourite because they're all delightful. Mags can't do enough for her customers! Highly recommended little gem.

Mag’s Café is the most incredible hidden gem in Chorley

We ordered takeaway from Mag’s Japanese cafe and went to pick it up. Food was ready on time, it was really delicious and they were really respectful of vegetarians, cooking veggie food first and indicating clearly which containers had the veggie options. We’ definitely order again or even eat in once our baby is a bit older! Five stars!!!

Very friendly staff and brilliant food, I love the tofu katzu curry!!and the tofu teriyaki udon! I eat here every week without a doubt! Great vegan and vegetarian options! I really recommend you try the matcha ice cream with a chocolate brownie (so delicious)!

Just noticed this place and it's definitely one of a kind for Chorley! Margaret was really friendly and makes all of the food herself to the highest quality and attention to detail. She's cooked Japanese food for years in a place in Preston and recently came back from a month long trip to Japan. Her passion for all things Japanese is very evident in this place! It's difficult to make Japanese food on a small scale as the ingredients are costly and not always available in a small town. But she manages it! I had the takoyaki, which had a perfect crisp texture and big, eye-catching bonito flakes. And the duck ramen, which had perfectly cooked duck, a selection of healthy vegetables and noodles with the perfect chew! Margaret can only make sushi when someone puts in a larger order in advance, but I got lucky today as someone had an order for tomorrow, so I got to buy a load to take home. Beautiful and generous amount of fish. The picture speaks for itself. I wish I could give this lady more than 5/5 for all of her hard work. Please let the rest of Chorley know she's here! Spread the word and let's have more variety in our town!

Absolutely delicious food, cooked and served by a lovely lady! Service second to none, food that you didn’t want to stop eating but we’re perfectly full. Can’t wait to visit again, have the menu ready for a new favourite take away. Chorley needs more of this! 5 ⭐️!

Had a light lunch with my wife and teenage children as an early mother's day meal. Food is wonderful and the staff friendly. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Here we have another sleeping gem. Authentic Japanese food in a small one on one setting. Worth travelling to. We had teriyaki aubergine and prawn tempura followed by beef udon ramen and king prawn katsu. Having been to Japan a fee times i can confirm this is authentic!!

Absolutely delicious! I hope this place starts to open in the evenings so we can order for our weekend takeout.

We attended tonight at the request of a teenager for a Birthday Party! Well, it took my breath away! Margaret the owner will bend over backwards to help and has recently returned to UK from Japan..it doesn’t get anymore authentic!
