Maekong Thai in Bromsgrove

Having had an excellent meal three months ago, tonight was disappointing. Cant fault the service but the food was disappointingly average especially given the price.

Our favorite Thai restaurant for miles. Traditional dishes, service with a smile and takeaway if you don't fancy eating in.

Good food, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Car parking less than a minute's walk away too.

Always great food here! Wish they put slightly more prawns in the pad Thai. Will keep coming here

Our first time here for around 10 years and it was a little disappointing. The downstairs is pleasant enough unlike the upstairs which has no atmosphere at all but the food is mediocre at best . The squid starter was very bland and cooked in what appeared to be chip shop batter , the mixed seafood could have come from Farm Foods and all mains were a little too hot to compensate for a lack of flavour. It will be at least another 10 years before we return.

Food always good and the service,but the manager need's to cheer up.

Starter and main food no way near Thai food We ordered starter and two main meals Starter was squid with onion rings. Absolutly awfull taste, cooked in very old oil and very oily. I think squid was even fresh, all frozen.My wife tried 2 Sticks and I one and we asked to sent back. I thought we havent complain at all with doors, sometimes it doesnt happen to make it. We waited for mains. We had chef special fish and my Green Curry with sea food. Fish was cooked also in very old oil, like fish and chips style and they add masaman souce. It was ok but nothing special, no way near some other thai restaurants do the same meal. My green curry was horrible and no way near green Currys, you get 100 times better meal form Morrisons . Well , I said sometimes happens, but worse about it, owners came around and we explain how food was awfull and she brought full receipt I gave to pay, we had half starter and i only taste source of Green curry as I dont like it. We have explain for ages how the food is not thai restaurant, I know you can call it. We have plenty other thai restaurants around and we dine there, we even been i Thailand. And we love thai food. I didnt want to pay for Green curry and starter but she still asked us to pay for starter or Green curry as option. I said i will pay fort starter and rest but not Green curry, but you definetly not having us back. Owner very rude My sugestion if you love Thai food dont go there.

Good selection of lunch menu set with reasonable portion and price. You get to choose one starter and one main. Good food and good ambience. Service was good.

Pleasant restaurant. Good service and, value.

The staff don't know what's on the menu or even what's included in your meal. And uf you want a drink, best to look what's in the shelf yourself because the menu is well out if date and staff are under knowledged.

Food is excellent and fresh ingredients. We were seated upstairs which was a very bland area lacking atmosphere.

I was looking forward to my Thai meal with my Thai daughter in law but we left a little disappointed. The older lady that served us seemed grumpy and pushy for us to order .The meal was not as good as the last time we visited .I went to the toilet and on my return my tai daughter in law seemed upset , she said the same lady was pushing her to finish and leave the table . My daughter in law asked if she needed the table but apparently not . We were going to stay for a sweet but we felt we should leave . We didnt understand as the restaurant was not busy . Shame .

Just had another good meal here . Can't fault it .

Some absolutely beautiful food. I really don’t need to say anymore, it was delicious and made our family celebration for my wife’s birthday perfect.

Prompt and friendly service, good range of menu and helpful recommended choices (set options). Two of us chose menu b which contained generous portions of several dishes. Good value and a pleasant atmosphere

The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I can not recommend it more highly. Arrived at 7.15pm on a Tuesday evening, it is a lovely place to eat chat and relax. Authentic Thai food.

Yet again a lunchtime walk in table for 2 was no problem. Service was as always excellent. The lunchtime menu is extensive enough to cater for most tastes. Superb value for money!

We had jungle curry,it was awful the chicken was tasteless think it had just been thrown in,it was no better having a oxo cube with a few chillies in,I asked for a beer they gave me the most expensive one on the list £7.00..it was so noisy in there you couldn't hear what anyone was saying on our table. Needless to say we won't be going back & why put something so awful on the menu It was money for old rope & to top it off 10 per cent service charge it wasn't worth.

A friend and I were recommended to come here. The food is delicious and the lady who served us was lovely. The prices are reasonable and the portions are just right.

Absolutely fantastic food and setting, brilliant staff. 4 of us ate three course meals, everyone enjoyed and left feeling full and happy.

Having eaten here many times in the last 8 years, and will continue to do so, we still really enjoy the food here. We find that every time we have eaten here, the food has been hot and full of flavour, and usually great portion sizes. However, since our last visit, we have noticed a (guesstimate) 25/30% reduction in portion sizes. The serving bowl and plate sizes have been reduced, and there seems to be 60/70% veg in the dishes. We fully understand that most likely the portion sizes have been reduced to keep the prices stable, but I felt it needed to be mentioned. We have never had a bad meal here, even when it has been full and customers have been attending for takeaways. We have also never experienced bad service. Would recommend.

Brilliant service awesome food … and I had great company

We have eaten here many times over the years, both at lunchtime service and evenings , the food has always been fantastic quality and extremely tasty, we have eaten at many Thai restaurants all over the country and this family owned one easily holds it own alongside the more well known ones, top quality food , great service, we will always go back, which we are in July 👍🏻

Having been to Thailand many times, I feel I know my way around a menu and the authenticity of authentic Thai taste. When the menu is so poorly presented you have to google what the food is, it’s a pretty bleak start. It can only improve? Wrong. The food was served, it was small in portion size, lacking in taste and overly expensive for what it was. Couple that in with waiters who must have asked a dozen times if we were finished while still eating, and wanting to take plates away left an overall experience that will not be repeated. 4 small beers, 4 starters and 4 mains, (no prawns or extra cost items) with one ‘urn’ of boiled rice - £128 . We ended up having supper when we got home.

Food spicy but not unpleasantly hot. Excellent value for money. Staff very pleasant. They don't try to push you to order more alcohol every time they pass your table as some restaurants do. All in all a nice pleasant restaurant. Will be making return visit soon.

After looking at trip advisors review we tried this restaurant out ( not knowing Bromsgrove) genuine Thai owner and staff - Pleasant staff but food a bit disappointing . Chicken was very dry in the dish we had - just couldn't eat it all.

Best place to eat in Bromsgrove by far. Authentic food. Beautiful plants throughout restaurant. Friendly service.

I have eaten a lot of Thai food over the years from various restaurants and this has to be the worst I have ever had. Usually Thai food is reliable. This was tough chicken, tasteless dishes, not the right number of sauces presented with starters, watery sauces, horrible. A total waste of money. I really was horrible food!

Really good Thai food, very friendly and warm atmosphere. Very much enjoyed our meal. Tip: park at the waitrose nearby as no street parking most of the time.

This is our favourite family restaurant. We have been coming here since it opened and have never had a bad dining experience. The staff are always friendly and efficient. As for the food- always perfect. There is plenty of choice on the menu and it is well cooked and well presented.

Best food for miles. An excellent dining experience

I was looking forward to eating here but the food just wasn’t up to scratch. Mixed starters were mainly deep fried and not tasty. Red curry and Massaman Curry were hard to differentiate between, both of which were very average. Overall I would describe the food as bland and lacking freshness.

Fantastic food with great service

We did not enjoy our take away experience from this restaurant. It wasn’t cheap at over £60 for 3 people. The fish cake starter had an odd texture and taste we couldn’t eat them. The print rolls were soggy and lacked favour. My sweet & sour prawns sadly had not been separated out into sauce and prawns. As they come in a light batter obviously being in the sauce they had gone very soggy they were unpleasant. Every other Thai we’ve been to separates them out. Two people has chicken dishes and described the chicken as rubber. We wont go there again. Maybe its better if you eat ion and everything is served fresh. Very disappointed.

I love the food and the service here, have been going there for years, I've always enjoyed the visit and the staff are lovely. My only gripe is it could be updated a little to make it more cosy, the chairs need better cushioning.

I recommend the fried fish. I like this restaurant which one of few sit-in far eastern restaurants in the area. My one suggestion scale back the garnish (cabbage and carrot) with each dish. Much of this must go in the bin.

Had a takeaway last night New Years Eve. Had pre booked two days before. Walked in to collect so glad to see they were busy in the restaurant. Food was 5 mins as usual staff were very pleasant. We haven't eaten here for a while but the food was as good as we remembered. Will definitely not be leaving it so long again.

Very disappointed with everything. Booked for 6pm, the service was really slow, took ages to get our food. Portions of each dish were really small and very salty. The signature dish Tom yum soup more like vinegar water, the dishes were not any better than the packet source you buy from supermarket! We had a 2 year old toddler and we were told to be quite while I was talking to my baby, we were not loud at all, the waitress was taking a telephone booking/order at the time, I was really offended. Then my husband asked if they have any cheese at the table, because our child wanted some cheese. The waitress was so rude told us this is Thai restaurant, they don’t have cheese! Great way to make your customer feel welcomed! Definitely not coming back!

We remained courteous, polite and paid the bill in full, but we’ll never go back The food was below average. As a well travelled mixed race Asian / British family, i can tell you the food isn’t anything like authentic Thai food, only thing worse than the food is the service. I’d suggest they place a notice on the website and facility stating that children under a certain age or louder than an certain decibel level are not welcome.

Hadn't been there even after all the times I've walked past and considered it. I took a shot on it last week. Glad I did because the food was amazing. So much so that I've been back again today. 🙂 The larb salad reminds me of Thailand and the other dishes I have tried so far have been amazing. I'd list them all but I can't recall the names. 😂 It's a little expensive for some dishes but it's worth every penny. If you are looking for authentic tasting Thai food, this is the best place I've found to match it. Oh and the staff are lovely and friendly people. 🙂

Maekong Thai is one of the towns treasures. Excellent food, attentive staff and a quick service. The dishes are full of flavour and decorated with colour. Look forward to visiting again.😊
