This is quite nice to go and shop there.

We have been coming here for 30+ years and it is always an absolute pleasure, authentic, genuine and exceptional. Great to see Mrs Madhav!

The restaurant serves authentic, delicious, vegetarian food. It is just like home cooked - nutritious & simple but prepared with love! Will be going back!

We order food for take away. The food was bland, no flavor. The samosas had no taste no spices, tasted like mashed potatoes. Karchori tastes weird. Vada pav, asked for spicy, but was unpleasant and tasted gone off. The dosa was okay. I wouldn’t go again.

It's a very good restaurant for vegetarian. I have tried all the food. It tastes like Indian dhaba. My personal favourite is vada sambar , idli sambar and masala chai. They serve very hot food. The best part is they don't heat frozen vada like curry hut or any other south Indian shop. They sell authentic food made by themselves.

What do corns and soy beans do in a veggie byriani? Food is not much and not sophisticated.

Desserts are quite good but the samosa is quite bland, it seems as if just boiled potatoes are used as the filling.

Awesome place for Indian Snacks and Thali. Best hospitality by Mr. Maruti uncle and his staff. They welcome you with a great smile and tasty food. You can get lots of Indian snacks with authentic Indian taste. We tried Samosa, Onion Bhai, Gujarati Kachori, Aalo Puri, Misal Pav, Pani Puri, Gulam Jamun, Jalebi,Lemon Rice, Veg Pulav, Veg Biryani and etc. If you are a tea lover then please try tea there only. It. If you in Cardiff, please visit in Madhav. Aalo Puri:- they are serving Puri n Dry Aalo sabji with some pickles. Misal Pav:- Authentic taste, mild spicy but you can ask them to make it spicy.

Consistently fantastic shop and café. So fresh, so tasty, such lovely family run establishment. International food from plantain to bunches of coriander, tinned Patra roll, sachets of pre made Dal paneer, incense, toothpaste, and all the basic spices in pillow pack size if needed.

Cardiff best kept gem. This place has been serving the south Asian community since the 60s and is still going. This is some of the best street food I've had. The Thali is amazing.

The plus point is there is parking available for 2 hours near the shop. There is an Indian grocery shop attached to the restaurant. There are clean washrooms available. You can shop and eat at one stop. There is take away and eat in restaurant price differences. So decide earlier. The thali is very famous, it comes with 1 curry, 1 dal, rice, 2 chapati, 1 onion pakoda, 1 sweet, 1 papad, 1 yogurt, 2 subzi. The restaurant is small and cannot accommodate more people.

Small place. Not a really fancy place. But the food was fantastic and the woman are very friendly and gave me good advice. If I was a local I would eat here regularly.

This place is very basic- a little shop attached to an open kitchen with a couple of tables. We didn’t know what most things on the menu were but had dosa before so ordered those with a sweet lassi. The staff were welcoming and the food was delicious! £18 for two dosas and two sweet lassi. Definitely worth a visit off the beaten track when in cardiff

Visited Madhav today for the obligatory Thali. As others have said, this place is basic. A supermarket alongside a kitchen with a table would be a better description but it doesn't pretend to be anything else and don't be put off. Quite a few locals there munching on sharing platters but we weren't going to be distracted as we like a Thali! Sadly no Lassi available today but a good choice of drinks available anyway. A short wait as we watched the chef prepare our Thali and it arrived along with a plate of poppadoms. Food was hot, tasty, delicious and very filling. At today's prices, a Thali was £10.99 plus drinks. Well recommended and a total gem. Proper, authentic food! I've uploaded photos of both the Thali and the menu. A take away menu is on the reverse, same food just cheaper.

Don't judge this place on its looks, or by your first impression.... It's basic with a capital B. BUT, the food is anything but! I can't comment on the rest of the food, but one of the best dosas I have ever had!! I wish we could have returned!

Authentic bombay style cooking that you won't get anywhere else. The value for money is as unbelievable as the flavours in the food. Highly recommend the vegan thali or for a cheaper option the dosa. How lucky we are to have Madav so close to home

I read other peoples reviews and they claim the menu is limited. The menu is only limited by your imagination, because you can have a varied choice of vegetarian Asian food cooked to perfection. If you wanted to visit this restaurant every week I’m sure you would get bored. However, I have been visiting it for over 35 years and I keep going back, not just for the snacks and the takeaway hot food but for the fine variety of good quality food you can purchase along with a vast array of spices to make your own delicious recipes. Madhav is a legend.

Been coming here ever since it opened,, Lovely food all cooked in front of your eyes. Vegetarian only but the food is extremely moreish,.cooked with fresh herbs and spices. It's a Cardiff legend.

Regular customer since 1980s. Moved away from Riverside, to other side of Cardiff but found myself coming back regularly for Samosa's, aloo bondha's and indian sweets: pistachio barfi. Took colleague and my boss a couple of weeks ago, they loved the onion bhaji's. Bit disappointed at how the price of samosas gone up, portion down from 4 to 3 and moreover, the samosas have become smaller and thus the filling, felt like we were just eating the flour pastry bit, so uncool and this has been for quite sometime and fedback but nothing changed there.

I became a semi regular customer in the early 90's, and enjoyed the food in particular the pakora. Moved away from Cardiff for over 20 years. When I returned I happened to pass Madhav so popped in for some snacks. Found they were just as good, and make ideal snacks, at a reasonable price. I dont live so close now, but will pop in whenever passing to get a little something.

I have been eating here since I was a child and I am now middle-aged. This is my go to place for food. I cannot express how this food seems to touch every aspect of my being. The shop next door also fulfils every need of mine. If it’s from Basmati rice to pistachio kulfi. The smell, and the sights take you to street India.

Visited this store/ restaurant with the family, we purcased items from the store but when we wanted to order food the owner refused to prepare four dosa dishes and a few other side dishes, which she could've but without no issues but pure laziness and rudeness, she said to us we can wait around 30 mins for her worker/ chef to come back from break but she wont be cooking, we refused and went elsewhere.

For a change we visited and picked up a takeaway, as usual we had a chance to browse around the well stocked shop adjoining the cafe, we always take the opportunity to stock up on spices, savouries and sweet treats. We ordered the biryani and some bhajis and samosas. As always the food did not disappoint. Spicy, fragrant rice with vegetables, a flavourful curry to pour over and enjoy with rotis purchased from the shop. The food was plentiful, hot and extremely tasty. The bhajis and samosas were hot and crispy, well filled and a great accompaniment to another wonderful meal. We never get tired of this lovely little restaurant. Try it when you want somewhere casual and different, you will not be disappointed.

Although Mahdav is quite simple in its layout, it is such a treat to find it serves such delicious food. We eat there on a regular basis and it is our place of choice in Cardiff for Indian vegetarian food. The food is consistently good and reasonably priced, the staff are really friendly and you can also shop for your Indian groceries once you have eaten!

People working in the shop have no manners and don't know how to talk to customers.They deny to give you stuff and ask you to spend more money in order to sit and eat. I hope I can find some platform where I can report an official complaint against such stores.DO NOT VISIT is my strong recommendation.

Es básicamente una tienda de comestibles con una pequeña cafetería contigua con 3 mesas. La comida era promedio. Sosa para un India calman pero sin duda mejor que la 'balti 'indian onu - cocina auténtica. Teníamos Aloo samosa bonda y para empezar y eran buenos. Masala dosa, pedimos uttapam paratha biryani y alu, para platos principales. Mientras que el Dosa estaba crujiente, la patata era muy sosa y llenar el dulzón y chutney estaban por debajo de la media. Verduras biryani no parecía. Regular con algunas verduras pulao biryani masala, servido con dal? ? Nada en la India vemos esta combinación. Necesita ser servido Biryani mirchi salan con raita o. Período. Alu paratha era básicamente el mismo sosa patata abundante entre 2 listo para comer chapatis, untado con aceite. Si eres un indio, no ser impresionado por los comentarios de tripadvisor, te decepcionará.

have been eating her for around 25 years. There food is still the same consistency as it was 25 years ago.I recommend the samosas and aloo wada, but must try with there tamarind chutney which is highly addictive.

I've been buying groceries and the occasional meal or snack at Madhav for over thirty years or more. Always a good source of ingredients for authentic Indian cookery, with recent expansion into African and Caribbean food. Far cheaper than any supermarket. And the cafe is a dream. Fresh Gujarati vegetarian home cooking (Hindu not Muslim, as someone above assumed), which is light and tasty, very good value and probably the best vegetarian samosa in the UK. It is true you won't get a bar of chocolate (pop next door if that's what you want) but they do have wonderful Indian sweets and the owners and staff are always welcoming and friendly. A short walk from town if you're a visiter, a weekly shop if you live locally. Well worth a visit if

This place makes lovely samosas. However, I thought the man serving me was very grumpy. I wanted to eat in but he discouraged me, it seems that he is against non-Muslims as it is situated in a area with a high Muslim population.

Went today for lunch. We ordered the Thali which was delicious. Ordered our food then went for a brows around the shop. They sell good quality offering incense here and the rose one is one of my favourites. Our food didn't take that long to arrive and it was fresh,hot, lots of it and delicious. You even get a sweet included in the Thali. We also ordered 2 mango lassi. These too were lovely and refreshing. The food was spicy but not too spiced. We've eaten here lots of times and come all the way from Ogmore Vale to eat here. Highly recommended and the family that run it are always lovely and polite.

Been going there for years haven't been for some time needed a snack got some samosa's and pakora's nothing changed still as good as ever and dont forget the adjoining mini market all you need for good cooking.

We called in here on our way from Cardiff Central Station to the SWALEC stadium (it's located just across the river from the Millennium Stadium). What a pleasure. Delicious very reasonably priced food, lovely friendly people. It's just a little family cafe attached to a shop with the focus on simple tasty vegetarian food. Definitely worth a return visit.

This is one of Cardiff's hidden gems. Very popular with locals, this vegetarian café and convenience store is well worth a visit. I was with friends during the last visit. They both chose dosa, which I'm told was delicious. I've only ever eaten a very large paper dosa, these were smaller, thicker and stuffed full with spiced potato. I had a very substantial tadka dhal and plain naan with a cup of sweet masala chai.

Without question the best food in Cardiff. Freshly cooked and incredibly reasonably priced. It is a shame that I cannot eat here more frequently.

The thali is a tray of about eight items plus poppadoms, a sweet, pickles, etc.. All this freshly cooked almost before your eyes and about £8.00 if you have chai and maybe a can of soft drink too. Half the premises are a grocery with the sort of fresh vegetables that you won't see in Waitrose or the Co-op.. Well worth a browse too. Madhav isn't a fancy restaurant, It's not beautifully furnished and there's no ambient music... but that doesn't matter because the food does all of the talking. I had the thali, 2 curries, chapati's, rice and condiments. It was a huge portion of food and it was extremely cheap (around £6/7). I'm always slightly bias when reviewing a vegetarian restaurant because I get so excited about being able to choose anything I want from the menu. But out of the 8 of us at the table - I was the only vegetarian and we all agreed it was the best Indian food any of us had ever eaten!We were taken here while visiting a local charity as a staff away day. We weren't expecting much but as soon as we all started eating we fell silent (the sign of a truly good meal).I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

Its open till 8:30pm. Its affordable tasty food. If I lived in Cardiff I would come here every day. Its attached to a store, so you can buy the ingredients in the shop. It has a great selection of vegetables, fruit and ingredients that will help you savour the flavour at home. No Alcohol. Vegetarian.We had the Thali and a masala dosa, 2 large tines of coconut water. We left a tip as well as it was really enjoyable and relaxed. The service was friendly.

I have been buying the vegetarian somosas from here for years and they taste the same today as they did the first time I had them. True home style Indian cooking what I will say is judge this place by it's food not it's decor
