Welcoming owner, very friendly. Really hot, decaff soya latte. Cold day so grateful for the delicious hot coffee as you could warm your hands on the cup. Lovely breakfast cob. Will definitely be back.Fab bre

Visited this tea room very recently and unfortunately it wasn’t great, rang up first to check if booking was required and it wasn’t because I stated we only wanted tea and cake On arrival my mum had a change of mind and wanted a panini but we were told the lunch menu was off only to see another little group of people handed a lunch menu 10 minutes after our arrival, I thought this was very odd, Also we were not told the chocolate cake was vegan, we realised the taste wasn’t right after the first bite, when I went to get something else I noticed it had a little v on the front which I hadn’t seen before, when I asked the lady she confirmed it was indeed vegan in which she stated you can’t even tell it’s vegan, I’m afraid we aren’t vegan and we could tell it was vegan! Very odd bland flavour, Also watery cappuccino, very weak no milk foam, the lemon cake was also overly sweet but was moist Dark cramped room at the back where we were seated, overall a short expensive visit costing over £26.00 for 4 drinks and 3 pieces of cake I don’t usually leave reviews but we were so looking forward to the visit with all the brilliant reviews

An establishment a ten minute walk from my home but I didn't visit until last year . I now visit a least twice a week for a coffee and sometimes cake as it is so friendly and atmospheric with an excellent coffee and cake selection . Lunches , afternoon teas and special events are always on the menu.

This is a great little place to have a homemade lunch or coffee and cake. Advisable to book if you want their afternoon tea as they get extremely busy. Nothing to much trouble for the attentive staff. Highly recommended.

Great tearoom, we called in off motorway as we dislike service stations and what a find. Amazing lunch with great choice, and took cakes away which are devine. Good job I don’t live nearer as I wouldn’t be able to keep away.

We went there this morning for the breakfast tea - it was absolutely fabulous!!! Loads of lovely food to eat and lots of hot and cold drinks. Excellent service too! Very highly recommended!

We visited Madhatters for our wedding and were blown away. The food, service, atmosphere and attention to detail was absolutely perfect. The guests all commented on the delicious food and drinks. All guests’ dietary needs were carefully and kindly met ensuring that everyone had the most wonderful time. A huge thank you to Emily for all of her hard work on the day and to Nygel for all of his preparation. You both made our special day very memorable. We stoped here on a slightly damp early afternoon on our way to Bakewell & Matlock as I am coeliac so require gluten free food & I’d done a quick tripadvisor search as we headed up the M1 WOW, what a find !! The owner Nygel was really lovely & as it was a quiet time we managed to have a really good chat with him.& even got some tips on places to see on our holiday. The tea & cake were superb - we both had the gluten free toffee sponge / gateau & it was absolutely wonderful and not too sweet. Nygel confirmed it was home made & as no after symptoms definitely fully gluten free. So lovely in fact we took the rest away with us !! Would definitely recommend to ant coeliac or those requiring gluten free treats !!! If we get a chance we’ll be back !!

The good lady and I stopped off at The Mad Hatters en route to our Matlock trip, having found they were able to cater for people with Coeliac Disease like my wife. As it was a bit later in the afternoon, the shop was quiet and the owner Nygel was able to sit and chat with us as we tucked into our wonderful Gluten Free toffee sponge cake. What a lovely man: we could have chatted with him for hours! We eventually had to leave to head on to our destination, but not before purchasing the remainder of the cake to take with us because it was home made and oh so scrummy! Nygel, you made us feel most welcome and we hope we can get back up to visit you again in the near future! Most definitely one to visit if you are in the vicinity.

I've been going to madhatters for years and have always had top notch food and drinks in a fun atmosphere. Recently my six year old daughter attended a birthday tea party at Madhatters, she suffers from 3 serious food allergies so I contacted Nygel before the party to see if I needed to bring our own food (which is what a lot of places ask us to do). Nygel took the time to go through all her allergies with me on the phone and was so lovely and understanding, reassuring me that he could cater for her. Amazing. When we got there Nygel completely blew me away with his considerate menu, he'd made everything the same so she wouldn't feel singled out or made to feel different at all and for the very first time, my daughter was able to just tuck in to the party food without having to check everything with me first. She was so so excited! It might sound like a silly thing to some people but for a child with serious allergies being able to eat the same things as your friends without having to constantly check that it is safe had a HUGE impact on her yesterday. After having a chat with Nygel yesterday, his views on inclusivity for allergies nearly made me cry! I honestly can't thank Nygel and the team at Madhatters enough, you provided a very special experience for my little girl and went above and beyond to make her feel included. ♥

Today myself and my friend visited for lunch with our daughters. I have a newborn and a toddler and had had a rough night. The lovely, wonderful owner, Nygel, made sure there was room for us and his friendly staff helped me into the cafe. There were colouring sheets and pencil crayons ready for the girls and Nygel made sure to say hello. The decor is stunning, the girls loved the Alice in wonderland theming and the babies loved the pretty lighting. It’s such a special atmosphere! We all ordered some drinks and sandwiches which arrived very quickly and beautifully presented (my daughter’s was on a heart shaped plate which she loved). It was all lovely, gorgeous food and plenty of it for hungry mums and children! Nygel also made sure to have some amazing calming music playing which we all thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated. Overall it was a perfect lunch. We felt welcomed and very well looked after. The food was delicious and the girls were entertained. Nygel and Madhatters cafe make Kimberley a very special place. We cannot wait for our next visit! Thank you so much to Nygel and the team; you made our day.

Last minute decision to go out for lunch and after seeing the mushroom and asparagus quiche on their Facebook post that morning, we decided to see make a visit We walked into a calm tranquil tearoom full of people and was worried there may not be space (or importantly any quiche left). Luckily a couple had just left as all the other tables were either in use or booked. Phew. So glad The quiche was... perfect. Pastry spot on and flavours just right. Fella had tea and scones which arrived fresh and warm. Despite being extremely busy with several large parties for full afternoon tea the chat and banter from staff and Nygel was personal and jovial as always. Thanks for squeezing us in last minute and for THE best quiche. See you soon.

Phoned this morning and the amazing gentleman said he could fit us in for afternoon tea. It was an early birthday surprise for my mum. We absolutely loved it, the food was deliciously homemade. It is like stepping into another world. It’s calm and relaxing, with beautiful decor. The staff were friendly and catered for my mums dislike of butter! We will definitely be back! Thank you so much again for squeezing us in.

This place was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Amazing people, food and service. It really was like stepping into wonderland. The tearoom is very quaint and the afternoon tea is HUGE...it just kept on coming. We had enough left over to the do us for dinner later on. The staff were really friendly and very welcoming. We had a lovely time at madhatters, chatting to the owner who is really friendly and enjoying a delicious Turkey sandwich on soft tasty bread served with a nice salad and crisps. We then enjoyed plenty of tea and a slice of lemon cake. We had a great lunch and will definitely be back soon. We also bought a couple of Christmas gifts for my daughter. Madhatters is a lovely, friendly, quirky and unusual place to visit for lovely tea and cakes. We’ve visited a few times and have always enjoyed a great service, loveLy food and a friendly welcome. Today we decided to treat ourselves to an Afternoon Tea, which was now offered as part of a collection service due to the Coronavirus pandemic. All of the food is just delicious, home baked and to a very high standard, there is plenty to go around, we were stuffed quite quickly and enjoyed every mouthful - we have some saved for later of course! Such care is put into the food and packaging (all paper bags and cardboard boxes) you can see a lot of thought has gone into the menu. We also each received our own China tea cup and saucer to keep, which was a lovely thought.Highly recommended and we will be visiting again very soon, thank you Madhatters xx

We attended for an afternoon tea at mad hatters on Friday, very last minute change to plans and following a quick phone conversation they were very happy to accommodate the reservation. We were seated in a lovely cosy area surrounded by hats and with Disney songs setting the ambience we cosied up ready for the tea. This is not afternoon tea like any other, its a challenge to finish so make sure you have the time to truly enjoy it and spread it out. Starting with a curried soup (delicious and sweet), then came the platter of edible entres, sandwiches (mexican chicken, ham, turkey), cakes (scones and a chocolate indulgences) further accompanied by a fruit filled custard... they say the selection always changes which is so on song with a mad hatter experience. We added an indulgent hot chocolate to accompany the experience. Definitely worth a visit.

Where do I start? Firstly what an amazing place to have afternoon tea. We were given a voucher for Christmas so whilst looking online this place stood out by a mile. The photos showed a quirky looking tea room and the food looked lovely.The photos don't do it justice, they don't give you the ambience of the place, nor do the show the lovely friendly funny staff for whom nothing is too much trouble.The afternoon tea was even better than the pictures, the whole thing was just great. Yes, I'm aware that I may sound like a biased staff or family member but I assure you that I am literally nothing but a new fan of Madhatters. I Cant recommend the place highly enough

Just happened to park opposite this tea room when we noticed it. Had an hour to kill, so popped in for lunch.Beautiful baked potatoes accompanied by a big salad, all served in this quirky tearoom by the lovely staff. A little gem that we will most definitely return to !

Had a voucher for our wedding in July. Wanted to support our local business. Was not disappointed. The atmosphere was great. The rooms are decorated so quirky and original. Nygel and Lucy were brilliant. They asked me for any dietary requirements and Nygel explained what he had provided for me being vegetarian. Was a great afternoon, relaxed and food in abundance. Very disappointed after the exceptionally good review. Decor very interesting and different but didn't like the attitude of the owner. I had a voucher for a free coffee given to me by my daughter. After a 70 mile drive I called at the cafe for a rest before calling at her house. Only to be told that it was an old voucher but I was still welcome to buy a coffee! There was no expiry date on the voucher! Not a very friendly welcome and encouraging new customers. If that is his attitude I will not visit again

Wow what a party venue! Nygel was the perfect host and the party was enjoyed by all ages that attended. The quirky venue and the fact that Nygel and his team took all the concerns about organising an event like this away from me made this a venue I will certainly book again. The singer ,Scott Anson, got the mix of music just right for the audience and we danced the night away. Lots of lovely food, delicious wines and gins, happy guests = happy birthday girl. As part of a Smartbox by Buyagift experience, the afternoon tea here was absolutely delicious! Lovely finger sandwiches, warm homemade scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, and a variety of sweet and savoury petits fours! The shop lives up to it's name and is a perfect place for a tea party and the staff are welcoming too! Need to book in advance and come hungry! ❤

We visited here for my best friends Hen party for afternoon tea on 22/9/19. Literally THE best afternoon tea we have ever had. Lovely food and the service was amazing and everyone went above and beyond for us. Such a hidden gem in Nottingham but I am thankful I found it and cannot recommend Madhatters enough. Thank you soo much for everything it was brilliant. Definitely a place that everyone should visit when in Nottingham!!!

I booked Madhatters for my other half’s 65th birthday. I’m a fairly regular contributor to Tripadvisor and couldn’t wait to get a review on about this place. I’ll say that from start to finish Nygel and his team looked after us perfectly. The food and service was second to none and my guests loved it. Although I think my husband overindulged a little and was a little fragile the next day, he really loved his evening. You know when you get a good feeling about something, well that’s how this place gets you. Quirky, cute, cosy and irresistible, so much so that I’m eagerly trying to fit an afternoon tea visit in very soon. It can’t come quick enough. Also looking forward to attending a few of the planned activities in the festive period too! ❤️

I had my hen do here back in July - my poor bridesmaids had to find a venue that was vegan/vegetarian friendly, wheelchair friendly, bridezilla friendly whilst still catering for 20+ people... and they did me proud.

This was a wonderful afternoon tea with a great balance of savoury and sweet and new and traditional. The best home made sausage rolls. And lots of free flowing tea. Themed but not cheesy and lovely friendly service.

When we were looking at a venue for our wedding reception, we just fell in love with Madhatters and the lovely Nygel. It was a perfect venue for fun, laughter and food. Nygel couldn't do enough for us. I knew that the one thing we didn't have to worry about was our reception. We knew we were in safe hands and that everything would be ready and done to our requests. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding! All 60 guests have come back to us, congratulating us on our choice of venue. The staff were absolutely amazing. Friendly, fun and courteous. The fantastic Christina was absolute star. We can not recommend this place highly enough. Fun, quirky, friendly, helpful and full of joy. A huge thank you for making our day the most memorable and joyous as it could have possibly have been.

Went for afternoon tea and cake with our dog we was Warmley welcomed by Emily and Nigel, there is a wide variety of drinks, cakes and food available also there was a doggy treat jar for the little pooch, we was served by Emily who was very bubbly and polite and we was having a laugh with Nigel, the service was superb 10 out of 10

The decor is fabulous! The staff were so accommodating and friendly, they couldn't have been more helpful. Dietary requirements were catered for. Even though we were a big group the staff were so attentive that we had more than enough food and drinks, top ups plentiful. The afternoon tea was gorgeous, I'm vegetarian and found lots of tasty options. The amazing array of hats to try on made for great fun and kept us entertained. There is a car park opposite so very convenient. Thank you very much for an enjoyable visit Madhatter's. I'll definitely be returning.

Fantastic time had by all. Very warm welcoming on arrival. We all had a mad hatters hat to wear and the birthday girl had a birthday hat! The decor is amazing we where blown away with dining area. The food is lovely with a great selection of sandwiches. The scones are delicious with jam and cream to top them off. Was very relaxing and felt that we could stay as long as our tea pot could fill our tea cups. Definitely recommend anyone going and experience it is fantastic.

We visited this beautiful, quirky and amazing tea room last Sunday(12.05.19) as a party of three to celebrate our special friend's birthday with afternoon tea. From the moment we arrived, we were totally captivated by the outside of the tea room and the quiet location with great parking opposite as well. As soon as we walked through the door, we had a lovely greeting by all the staff who were so accommodating and friendly and straight away we felt that we had come somewhere really special. The tearoom decor is absolutely magical, quirky and is a dream for all younger and older Alice's looking for that Disney magic that exists here in abundance. The back of the tea room is so pretty and beautiful with soft lighting created by the hanging lanterns and ornate mirrors, giving a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic variety of sandwich fillings to choose from and all made fresh for you there and then with plenty of tea to drink and refills offered. The scones were warm and yummy with the clotted cream and jam and there was plenty to eat and we all left feeling very full and satisfied. The staff encouraged us to try the different hats on which was brilliant and we had lots of laughs trying on all sorts of styles and the staff were happy to take our photographs for us. We would highly recommend a visit to Madhatters and we will definitely be returning again soon for another "to die for" afternoon tea. Nygel and his team are really nice people and we thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them afterwards and getting to know them and we left feeling like we had made new friends for life.

The venue itself was beautiful and perfectly fitted the mad hatter theme with lots of Wonderland trinkets throughout! The service was very quick and the food and drinks were delicious! Fab afternoon tea at noon with my sister in law and our husbands. We all thought it was lovely. Quirky. Loved the grand piano. So friendly. Free flowing tea and coffee and the party of ladies celebrating a 90th birthday were having such a lovely time with tea AND prosecco. Free parking directly opposite. Would go back.

We visited here on Thursday for afternoon tea, the food was delicious, the place was quirky and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely be revisiting and I would highly recommend giving this place a go.

Brilliant quirky place with delicious food. Choose your sandwich fillings from a wide range on the blackboard, and devour a scone second to none. Will be going back to try the homemade cheese ones! Dietary requests catered for and my yeast free wraps were excellent. Definitely worth a visit or two!!

went for afternoon tea using Groupon voucher. The sandwiches had a good portion size, which is great. They were a bit simple ingredient wise but still nice.

Me and my family was bought an afternoon tea voucher for Christmas and we booked it for Sunday 17th February 2019. It was a lovely experience. From the moment we went through the door we were made to feel welcome and it was like stepping into a magical world. The food was amazing and very filling. We would highly recommend to people of all ages to come to this delightful tearoom.

Another great visit to Madhatters....love this place! The owner went that extra mile and beyond to accommodate our group (7 adults) and give us a top class service, ensuring all our needs were met, couldn’t of asked for more! After receiving this most amazing gift for my birthday in November, I must admit to counting down sleeps for the very special Christmas Madhatters Tea Party today. We had canapé first, followed by a salmon bagel with lush cream cheese, pate toast and the most gorgeous homemade chutney ive ever tasted, finger sandwiches followed by a full three tier display of cakes laced with fresh strawberries and including homemade scones with strawberry jam and Devon cream. All this why he drank tea and it was prosecco with fresh strawberry for me lol xx we were not dissipated and would recommend this venue to everyone. The decor was totally just 'wow' and the friendly staff ... oh I forgot the pianist playing wonderful Christmas music on a baby grand piano ... all totally awesome. Thank you again Jenny & Ian for such a perfect gift.

Afternoon tea with my husband. It has been a few years since our last visit, they have since moved to bigger premises, this is literally a stone;s throw away, with a handy pay and display carpark opposite. Stepping into the tearoom, first impression is very pleasant. I loved the old time music playing in the background, this adds to the ambience. We enjoyed the sandwiches and scones with cream and jam, all washed down with a nice pot of hot tea. Definitely worth a visit.

Madhatters is a tearoom like no other I have visited the place has a special atmosphere Nygel and his team go out of their way to make sure your visit is special our afternoon tea was delicious tasty canapes followed by freshly cut sandwiches then delicious cakes and freshly baked scones with jam and cream with as much tea and coffee as we wanted we also had a prosseco toast we love visiting we are welcomed as friends and will return soon

It is a small place .when you go in the staff are friendly and there is some delicious looking cakes for sale . Crying out to be eaten. there about £295 a slice or thereabouts.

This serendipitous little tearoom is a veritable treasure trove of discovery, both in its eclectic decor and mouthwatering food. Nygel and the team have created something magical on this delightful little Victorian street in Kimberley. Generous portions, good quality coffee and a grand piano that suitably talented guests are invited to play should they wish to. One can easily understand why it is so highly rated.

Just had my birthday gathering at Madhatters and it was a fab night.

I'm the US (Florida) and my friend from England took me here to have my first English tea. I was not disappointed! It was fun and a great ambiance :) Would definitely recommend!!

Went here and was expecting good tea and coffee, but went away feeling a bit embarrassed. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful but the drinks were very poor quality Tasteless coffee. It was so weak and I thought the cappuccino which should have had 2 shots of expresso had a drop of it!

Found this absolute gem purely by chance and couldn’t be happier for now knowing about it! Was a “stop off” on my way to a weekend break and it wouldn’t have been a more magical start. The immensely warm welcome from Nygel when we first arrived was just the start of unquestionably the most enjoyable afternoon tea experience I’ve ever had. The deliberate and heartfelt labour of love that is the entire décor is just an absolute treat for the senses. You could live in this tea room for a month and there’d still be something wonderful and new to spot at every turn that you hadn’t seen before. The joy and fun that exuberates from the Madhatters TR is something you could only match with the true childlike delight you experienced through Disney growing up. It is simply magical. Further to the unrivalled charm of the tea-rooms themselves and the vivacious staff who make you immediately feel at home, the food itself was simply delicious and very generous. The little details like using 2 different types of bread per sandwich is so playful and the fillings were generous, fresh and varied. The scones were fresh, soft and there was plenty of cream and jam. We simply didn’t want to leave! And although we live over 100 miles away, we are making plans for future visits already!

As always a fabulous selection of sandwiches where we could choose our own fillings. The mackerel chosen by my soon to be Mother in Law was a delicious surprise. Nygel always makes you feel welcome and shows an interest in you and this personal touch makes Madhatters what it is today! We will back again soon.

I visited Mad Hatters today for the first time and I'll definitely be back. We went using a Groupon for a family of 4. Afternoon Tea was lovely. All freshly made. Scones were awesome. Again home made. Even the kids got their drinks in a teapot so they joined in.

I was invited as a guest here by a friend, I initially was a little hesitant based on the description given. Thought it maybe a little child focussed. However, it was okay and the afternoon tea was fine. Also, I bought a little silver dish on the way out.

Popped in once again to refuel as this is an excellent place for gluten free options for my other half. Yet again the service was faultless and the food was lovely. I usually avoid baguettes as I have a gob full of crowns.. no need here as they were warm, with a bit of crunch and not hard like most places. The gluten free baguette also went down very well. We love the friendly conversation here and the banter between staff is hysterical. There is a new addition to the team ( very pleasing eye candy ) and also very smiley and friendly. We shall definitely be returning before the end of the summer.

Just returned from our daughters baby shower Nygel and the team made us so welcome the room was perfect for our needs we had the most delicious afternoon tea and prosecco, a few games, everyone who came loved the room, the cakes and scones were divine and some really tasty canapes and sandwiches.I would highly recommend Madhatters for any occasion. The perfect venue for an intimate party cannot wait for another occasion so we can return

Just had fantastic Madhatters tea ,a present from our daughter. Very welcoming hosts in a quirky setting. So much food they gave us a box to take some home with us. Well worth a bisit for somewhere different , booking advisable as it's quite small.

Just had a fantastic afternoon tea at Mad Hatter's! A friendly welcome from the lovely staff who made sure we never ran out of tea! Delicious food, especially the homemade hummus for the vegetarian sandwiches and the freshly baked cherry and almond scones. Great Alice themed decor too. **Would highly recommend**

My mum and I came here for her birthday treat, for the madhatters tea.

I visited yesterday for a baby shower party. Mad hatters is an amazing place full of quirky items. They were friendly and catered for my gluten and dairy free diet very well. Nygel even baked me a special gluten and dairy free scone so I could have what everyone else was having. Cannot fault them. Will definitely be back.

We booked the mad hatters tea room for family and friends to enjoy afternoon tea after our son’s christening. Canapés and Prosecco was served on arrival, with the afternoon tea being served shortly after. The food was fantastic, especially the cakes and scones which were to die for. Nygel and his team delivered a first class professional and friendly service, meaning that myself and my husband didn’t have to worry about anything, allowing us to enjoy the day with our guests. All our guests commented on how perfect the tea room was, with a couple of guests even buying an antique or two!

What an enchanting and magical place. Wonderful for all ages to enjoy. We recently met a large group of our family here, the children and adults were all amazed by all the details added to the rooms and smiles were beaming from the moment we entered. Food was excellent, staff were friendly and professional. Thoroughly recommend to anyone in the area or visiting. Our 3 year old summed it up by saying it was "the most beautiful and happy cafe she had ever been to"

Brilliant place, meet up with family and we all had a fab time. Very comfortable with the kids, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend with family or a different place to go with friends!

having travelled from durham for a friend's hen party i received a warm welcome from nygel and lesley. service was amazing, food was amazing, atmosphere was amazing. thank you for everything

Called in here recently after having electrolysis on my face and needed cheering up as I looked like the phantom of the opera. Anyway. My partner (who is gluten intolerant ) and I both had the jacket potato with salad. My partner had bacon and stilton and I had cheese and ham. The potatoes were oven baked, very hot and very tasty. The salad was wonderful too. Being a couple of greedy beggars, we also had scones with jam and cream, which were also extremely tasty. All the staff were so welcoming and friendly and only too happy to help. We eat out quite a lot and have eaten some rubbish along the way but not so here. ! As it is not too far from home, we shall definitely return and would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this place to anyone. This place is now top of our list for lovely food and scrummy dessert. Thanks to everyone and we hope to be back soon

Came here recently with my brother and 5 children, the kids had heard about the amazing freak shakes. And we weren’t disappointed they were lovely. This is a lovely tearoom it’s quite small so you would have to book I imagine on most days to get a table, but once seated enjoy the sugar rush !

Very quirky place. My daughter booked it for a mums day treat. We had the full afternoon tea between 6 of us and there was loads to eat! It was all lovely and a good price. We all had a turn at wearing the hats and had a good laugh. The staff were friendly and efficient and I thoroughly enjoyed myself! Would recommend to anyone!
