Having visited in August and reviewed, giving it a three as service VERY badly let the place down, my return visit for the works Christmas party has seen such a decline I am surprised the place is still open. Please DO come here if:-1. You want to wait an hour for your starter, 2 hours for your main, and if you want to play the guessing game - maybe your dessert will arrive, maybe it won't. What fun.2. You want to eat at different times to your colleagues3. You want to return your main twice because firstly it is wrong, then it is stone cold4. You want the place to run out of your fave dessert, pre-ordered back in the summer when you booked, and to be left with choices you do not like.5. You want to be served by very young inexperienced staff who have no interpersonal skills and are clearly out of their depth when any kind of performance under pressure is required6. You want to spend a fortune on alcohol waiting for any food to arrive7. You want to be offered free alcohol when you have already had more than enough as compensation for missing/poor quality/cold/wrongly dished up mediocre food.Looking at the recent reviews, it appears to be much of the same. The place deserves to go bankrupt, absolutely shocking shambles of a joint. I for one will never be returning, and I will be telling anyone who cares to listen to avoid.

Visited with a group of friends for a pre-booked meal. Having ordered in advance we expected that the food would be served without any hassle. How wrong we were. It took 2 and a half hours between the starter being served and the desserts. Some of the main courses were returned to the kitchen as they were cold and they forgot to cook one completely so one member of the group was left waiting. The staff didn't appear to know what was going on and often couldn't be found. Will not be returning.

I had the misfortune to go to Maddison's on Thursday 18 December as part of a large party Christmas meal. We were advised it was 1215 for 1230 start, and nearly all of us were there by that time. Alarm bells began to ring when they came around asking us what we had ordered, which was something we had done months and months previously. After all this, and quite a long wait, the starters began arriving (at about 1.35) in only what can be described as dribs and drabs. This was quite a long wait considering we had sat down at 1230. Furthermore, if you were one of the unlucky souls who had ordered something popular, like the soup, you had to sit there and watch everybody else eating. When the soup did eventually arrive, everyone else had finished their first course. I was one of those with the misfortune to order the soup, which was supposed to be (I think) parsnip and apple. It just tasted overpoweringly of apple and not in a nice way. I almost reminded me of the apple puree type foods that you give to babies, but a tad worse and with a powdery texture. To cap it all, the bread or whatever it was that was supposed to be served with the soup, was put on the table some 15 minutes or so after we hadall finished the soup! The same issue then occurred with the main course. I, along with many others, had ordered turkey. This was not put in front of me until 3.00 - some 2 and a half hours after we had all sat down. If you had ordered lamb or duck, you were presented with your 'fare' a lot sooner than those with the turkey. However ,when either of these two did arrive, they weren't the most appetising meals I have ever seen. The rocket on the lamb plate, looked so lifeless, it was alomost flacid and had probably come out of an old supermarket packet. I could go on, but back to the turkey..... It was apparent there were many of us who were left to wait an interminable amount of time for this. I have never seen so many complaints about delays to staff in my life. Many people were given free drinks as sweeteners to keep them happy. When it did arrive, and as unappetising as it was, we eat because we were so hungry by this point and everyone else had eaten either their lamb or duck.We then had another hour to wait for the desserts, which were totally underwhelming. I would go so far to say that the Xmas pudding both resembled and tasted like something from an army ration pack. I couldn't eat it. We left the place as soon as we could.I have been looking at Maddison's website, which states (and I kid you not) that they 'aim to showcase the best that South Wales has to offer'. Whilst I applaud them for aiming high, I fear this is a mantle they may never reach. They obviously have no idea about catering for large parties and have just jumped on the Christmas bandwagon to make as much money as possible.I do have to say however, that the waiters and waitresses were very good, and it's a shame they had to respond to all the complaints which were made as a result of the inability of their kitchen to organise anything even remotely approaching good customer service. If you have booked to go to Maddisons, then I wish you good luck. I will be avoiding the place like the plague in future.

Attended an office party lunchtime on Friday 12th December, our party consisted of nearly 30 people booked in for 1pm. Problems arose straight away even before sitting down, as quite a few people in our party were being charged different prices for the same drinks - apparently it was happy hour with no advertising in the venue and only to certain people, they had very low stocks and had run out of certain other drinks even at this point of the day!Even though we had given our menu choices a week previously our starters did not start arriving til about 45 minutes later - very poor quality and clearly spreading the portions thinly, several people who had the salmon had only between 2 or 3 small slithers, the "toast" that came with the pate didn't even equate to half a slice of bread and was not the Italian sour dough, as advertised and the soup was overly sweet. Then the big problems started with our mains - our party had to wait over an hour for some of the main courses to be served then which was totally disjointed having some meals brought to the table and finished before another wait of about 15/20 minutes for the turkey meal to arrive!!!My lamb meal was barely warm with burnt vegetables which had clearly been warmed up in the microwave then been left and again with very small portions that with 2 mouthfuls of the meat and it was gone and also came with gravy and not the sauce as advertised. There were no condiments available apart from salt/pepper on the table and one of our party asked for cranberry sauce for their turkey and was told they didn't have any - this is Christmas for goodness sake!!!Most of our party complained that their mains were barely warm and by this time we complained to the waitresses and received bottles of wine, free for the tables which was the only concession given to us as we had already pre-paid, in total, for our meals. We had to wait another long wait for the deserts which again were cheap and of very poor quality. We eventually finished the "lunch" well over 3 and half hours later through purely waiting for our food!!!The venue itself seems to have suffered even though its only been open for just over a year, the female toilets had quite a few broken locks, shabby in appearance, toilet rolls not being replaced, hand wash dispensers broken. It seems to have an air of the business being run into the ground.Thankfully we had a great time but it was no thanks to this shambolic place and I certainly would not recommend going there to anyone.

I attended a Xmas function on Fri 12th December, part of a group of 35 from Cardiff Council. My first impression was that there was not enough bar staff. I appreciate this time of year is extremely busy but that needs to be catered for.The disgusting state of the ladies toilets was unacceptable, especially as this was only 7.30 pm. At least 4 toilets had soaking wet floors. Lots of the toilets didn't have paper and there were 3 empty soap dispensers. Wetherspoons toilet standards are 100% higher than here.We were told that there was over an hour delay on our meal, again I do appreciate the busy time but I have been to other places that were able to cope with this. Some of the party had nowhere to sit as other guests were still in their seats. They sat at another table but were very rudely told to move by a male member of staff. When my friend explained the situation and said where is your customer care, she was told "I've put £400 of booze on your table". Well considering she didn't have a table that didn't help her. She was then told if she didn't move she would be escorted from the premises.Eventually she was seated but the attitude of that man was appalling. Bottles of Vodka and Jack Daniels were put on one table, which Iunderstand was the table of a relative of the management. Some of the party didn't see any of that drink. The starters arrived sporadically and the main courses were all over the place. The food was warm rather than hot and a lot of the vegetables were burnt. Not all of us had the same vegetables even though we had the same meal. The whole experience was dreadful. The poor waiter staff did their very best and I do not blame them.My friend who was told to move attended this restaurant for Beaujolais Day and was served last year's wine, and was not happy with her experience.I felt so sorry for the organiser of the Xmas party, she kept apologising to us about the poor service but it was the restaurants fault. The reviews on here speak for themselves.I have emailed the management. Awaiting a reply.

Went to Maddisons for our Christmas party, first impressions were good, a nice venue then it went down hill quickly went to the top bar to be told no cider but maybe some at the other bar. We were booked in for 4 and got seated about 4.30 no crackers !! alot of staff appeared to be running round in crcles, horrendous starter ... avoid the soup! offered tduck as there was no turkey even though it was ordered when we made the booking weeks ago!. Then one of our party found a long blond hair in his dinner this was brought to the attention of a waiter who requested the hair..... he took it and dissapeared still leaving the meal!!Eventually the meal was replaced. Veg included a few cremated carrotts and parsnips a pink/purple coloured cabbage which looked as though it had been continuously re heated and few potatoes. We asked to see the manager who had convieniently dissappeared and another member of staff came to see us and told us we didnt have to pay for the meals, she then told one of the waiters "just get rid of them" after waiting another ten minutes no one came to see us so we left only to be confronted half way down St Mary street by several door staff and the elusive manager who informed us he had called the police so back to maddisons some of our party went to explain to the police who had arrived in double quick time what had happend, no case to answer. This looks a nice venue but unfortunatley has a manager who needs some re training in customer service ....... along with a few of his staff...... oh and he needs to employ a good chef.

Event - Friday 12th December .I always set myself low expectations for any 'Christmas Do', that way I don't get disappointed. Well done Madisons you have completely reset the bar ....LOWER!Despite valiant efforts by our organiser our party had nowhere to sit and were treated as an inconvenience by some of the staff. We were herded around the restaurant like unwelcome cattle and when we found somewhere to sit temporarily were told to move in a highly confrontational manner by someone who did not introduce himself....Presumably because he was "at the end of his tether" and having a "bad night". He launched into a full argument with colleagues and when I tried to speak reasonably to him he became even more agitated and redirected his aggression at me!Our party had been provided with drinks but this could in no way compensate for the shambles that was made of our booking. The food was not as described in the menu (my duck would have served well as a shoe sole) and served at random intervals with what appeared to be hit and miss scheduling. My only good comment is directed at the waiting and bar staff who maintained polite and professional service in spite of the situation their managers had placed them in.Madisons MAY be an acceptable venue for small parties but I think they need to secure a professional Maitre D' who can organise properly if they wish to continue as an 'event' venue.

We booked our works Christmas meal here and a couple of days before they said that they couldn't do my main of choice so although disappointed I thought at least they were organised.... I spoke too soon!We arrived on time for our meal at 5pm. Our table wasn't laid and we were treated to the spectacular sight of 4 staff members laying 3 tables for us. We were finally seated at 5.45pm and despite the careful setting of the table my fork was dirty. I mentioned this to a waitress and she apologised and said she would get me another. Alas the fork never appeared but a fellow guest luckily was having soup and so gave me hers. I needn't of bothered as they ran out of the starter I chose and had to settle on the soup, which was nice but too sweet until seasoned. Now my vegetarian main was lovely but another fellow diner did not receive his main until after we all had eaten as did all the other poor people who ordered turkey in our party.Having said all this we were given lots of complimentary wine which although a nice gesture we would have preferred good service from the start.I feel that the waiting staff were rushed of their feet and lacked clear direction from supervisors or management staff.

I went to Maddisons with my work colleagues for our Christmas do on Friday 12th December. Whilst the atmosphere was great and the food was very good, our entire experience was dampened by the extremely poor planning and service.Bearing in mind our organisation had booked well in advance (July!) and we had pre-ordered our food, we waited for 40 minutes whilst the tables were set (it took 3 members of staff this length of time to put 20 place settings across 3 tables...) and then waited again for our food to arrive. The starters were good, but one colleague was told that she couldn't have the salmon we had *pre-ordered* for her because they had run out, and that she would have to have soup instead. After a reasonable wait, the vegetarian, lamb and duck mains were served. I had duck and was very impressed with the size of the portions and the quality of the food. However, by the time my colleagues' turkey dinners had arrived, my duck and every lamb and vegetarian dish was long gone and we had been sat with empty plates for 10+ minutes. Luckily the deserts all arrived at the same time! We pointed out the massive delay in the serving of half of the mains and the management provided complementary Prosecco for each table, and to be fair to the individual serving staff they were all polite and kept clam. But regardless of this gesture, given that we had pre-booked, pre-ordered and that turkey dinners are the staple of any Christmas party, we really were disappointed in the quality of our service.I would go to Maddisons again with a smaller group at a quieter time of year to see if they cope better when they aren't as busy - but I'm afraid they just aren't well equipped for Christmas party season.

They managed to sit us (there was only one other group in the place) and were told there was no drinks menu, they had no prosecco and only one bottle of Pinot Grigio and one bottle of Zinfandel. It took well over an hour receive our starters and 5 out of 7 of those had to be sent back as they were cold! Nearly another hour later we were served our main, all at different times, so varied that some had nearly finished their meals before others were even served. Dessert was a non starter as they informed us the creme brûlée would take over 20 mins to be served. We had dirty cutlery on the table and one friend was nearly wearing her dinner after it was thrown in front of her by the incredibly rude waitress. They did give us a pretty good discount off the bill, still didn't appease the horrificness that was our Christmas bash at Maddisons. Terrible experience from start to finish...avoid at all cost!!

I went here for Beaujolais day with 3 friends, our table was booked for 3 but we weren't seated for almost an hour and then food didn't arrive for another 45 mins or so. The starters were salads which essentially consisted of some lettuce with a little bit of cheap cold meat or some seafood sticks. The mains came with no veg apart from some totally uncooked potatoes, the meat was acceptable but nothing special...and that was it. for £25 we were all left very hungry and disappointed. The only positive was that the wine was decent and we were brought some extra bread to make up for the lack of anything else to go with the food. It's a nice enough venue for a drink or to start a night out but i'll never go back for food again.

It has been a traditional for many years for a group of us to enjoy a day of fine wine and good food and great company this was not the case at Maddisons. This year iwe decided to try a different venue as we have been to the same venue for a number of years. What a disappointment this place turned out to be. The table was booked for 3pm and we didn't get seated for at least half an hour bearing in mind most of us haven't eaten since breakfast so you can imagine hunger pains all round. Then to wait for our starter for a good hour a starter that was enough to fill a small child the disappointment didn't stop there, another wait for our main meal that came at least an hour and half later with us not all eating together as some meals came later again. Now the main meal of which I had ordered chicken in a sauce. I was expecting a variety of vegetables and potatoes what I got was a disgrace I got chicken with two potatoes I would have got more for my money in McDonald's and had a full tummy for @ least an hour. When I asked where was the vegetables I was told there weren't any and that I could have a plate of chips. I was given chips and a small bowel of salad (left over from starters) to make up the meal. One girl in our party was presented with two different meals that according to the waiter was coq au vin when she said that's not coq au vin where is the sauce as this was just a bit of chicken with fried onions and mushrooms he said that was their version of it the poor girl didn't get a meal at all. I am disgusted that Maddison's advertises its Beaujolais menu with lovely food for the price of £24.99 and I received a meal worthy of £5 and then to top it off they advertised it as a meal with a bottle wine, it then turns out that the wine was to share and that the Beaujolais wine was 2013 I was under the impression it was the first wine of 2014??? So the point I am making is this so called place is advertising itself as a place of good food and wine I think they really need to change their approach to pleasing the public and get their table service and the menu to 100% quality and stop advertising for something they cannot achieve... I certainly won't be returning to Maddison's what a disappointment the venue was.

The offer was 2 course meal and a bottle of wine for £24.99 but less than a week before the date we were told they would not honour this offer and we could have a bottle of wine between 2. The Beaujolais was 2013 and we were told the supplier hadn't delivered the new wine. Another group of friends were given a salad with their meal but we just had basic meat and potatoes/chips. They were also given cheeseboards, we weren't. Double standards then they had the cheek to try and impose a service charge. Would never recommend this place and will never go there again. We had amazing steaks cooked to perfection would definately return here, food was well very presented. We were all completely satisfied glad we tried it and it would be our first choice next time. Music was a little loud as there is a dance floor there. Some of the staff could be a little more friendly and perhaps uniform could be a little smarter.

Where do I begin? A group of six wrong side of 50 ladies looking for a night out in our capitol city. Like many in our age group we've all worn the T - shirt as far as Cardiff is concerned - been there done it seen lots of changes over the years. This is one of many establishments in the city/bay area designed (I believe) to attract the younger clientele with money to spare. My friend had pre-booked a booth and we were all looking forward to the experience. When we arrived, there was no meet and greet. We wandered around aimlessly looking for someone to show us to our booth. Eventually my colleague approached a member of staff and after some discussion we learned that our booth was currently occupied by a young group. We were then lead to the most unsuitable area - a table with high stools, at which we were expected to eat. One us was recovering from a knee op and one has a bad back, attempting to climb up to these chairs was a challenge in itself. We asked to be moved somewhere else, and we were then taken to a booth near the dancefloor - an upgrade. Really? Very dimly lit, hidden away from the main throng of people. It felt like the naughty peron's table. No one appeared to want to take a drinks order so we went back to the bar. Having returned to the batcave with our wine, we were all hungry. It was some 30 minutes since we had arrived and we had had no sight of a menu.We were then approached by a member of staff to be told that they could not serve food in this particular booth, and we had to move, again. If felt like I was in a 'Carry On' film, and had to say something. I recounted the fiasco so far to the waitress, and enquired if she thought we had received good customer service. There was a pause, followed by 'I will speak to my manager about a free bottle of wine'. I don't recall any apologies, explanations, but who am I to argue with a free bottle of wine, especially at their prices? Off we toddle to table number 3. It is worth noting that the waiting staff are surface pleasant - they have the smile and the patter- but there is nothing underneath. No thought, no problem solving skills. It may well be the training and if so it sucks. You would think that the person in charge that evening would have come over and apologised, little things like this go a long way. Nothing.Anyway, in the interests of balance and fairness of the review, it was all good from that point.I had duck breast, which was cooked exactly as I had requested, Most had a burger of some variety, and all reported that they were very good. The portions were generous, the chips were fabulous, and yes, despite everything, we did leave a £6 tip. It would normally be more. I would like to forward two further tips to the managers of this establishment:-You would reap the rewards if staff were trained to have human (non- automated) responses to service issues, and to demonstrate some lateral thinking skills. You have a lovely establishment, but always good to remember that the more mature age bracket have life in them and money to spend too, As an older group I believe the overall experience left us feeling we were unwelcome. The icing on the cake was returning home to recount this tale to the husband who replied "don't you have your christmas do there?"

We booked online through a deal, we were supposed to have a cocktail as part of the deal but were told that they had run out of Prosecco and we were offered wine instead which was lovely. We had the scallops to start which were stunning and then the ribeye steak which was cooked to perfection. We had a lovely waitress called Kelsey who was very helpful and worked really hard. We cannot wait to return.

I'll give it a very good although I wont be back. Was just a bit weird - but it could be me!Food was fine - nothing spesh. Waitress very dippy but made me feel sorry for her rather than annoyed! We then went through to the nightclub afterwards but I think its best the place for youth on the pull (though my party didn't agree - and shook what their mommas gave them). Older male dancing is not that attractive - and I'm a slightly older person so I can say that!I prefer a 'proper' restaurant but wont knock them. Horses/courses! I'm sure you could have a bit of nosh in a nice modern vibe and then dance away your steak and have a good time. Its good Cardiff has this really - ups the nightime game a notch. So 'very good' it is!

Went here with a Living Social deal which I think cost me something ridiculous like £13.00 for two courses for two plus wine. FOOD: Very nice, had King Prawns and Loin of lamb and my wife had Sea food salad with mango and Chicken Breast on a pea puree. SERVICE: Served by Kelsey who was very attentive and pleasant. VALUE: See previous comments and below about the price of drinks. The usual prices for food would have been very reasonable at £9.95 a head for two course lunch and perfectly acceptable wine at £2.50 a glass (oh yes folks ...£2.50 in Cardiff City Centre) throughout the week. VENUE: Nicely done in a sort of semi night club style, funky music in the background but definately not too loud. OVERALL: Very well worth a visit if you are in town .... We will definately consider going back.

We selected this restaurant as a result of special offer voucher, the outside of the restaurant was unimposing and we were feeling a bit down. How first impressions can be so wrong, the waitress was very attentive, the menu extensive and the food was superb. I had their sea food salad which was beautifully presented and tasted even better. The main course was lamb rump with spring vegetables, the lamb was the best I have ever tasted and the portions were very generous. I have eaten in many restaurants in Cardiff many of them much more expensive but this was one of the best I have ever tasted. The restaurant was very quiet people do not yet seem to have discovered what a gem this place is, please, please give it a try.

My friend and I went for lunch today on a Living Social voucher for a starter, main and glass of wine each for £13 for the two of us which is fabulous value. From the moment we walked in and received a warm greeting through the ordering and actual dining we have nothing but praise for all the staff. The ambience was lovely, the decor very pleasant and the staff all well turned out and polite and courteous. Our waitress was lovely and checked out several things on the menu with the chef as we had enquired about spiciness and content of a couple of the dishes. Our wine was delicious and both courses arrived at just the right time giving us ample time to chat. I disagree with a previous review saying the menu was limited as there were at least 7 or 8 starters and mains and as the regular price for 2 lunch courses is only £9.99 I'd say that is good value and ample choice. Our food was really delicious with good portions and we were able to compliment the chef in person. We finished with coffee which was very nice and have to say our visit was great from start to finish and we are going to recommend it to all our friends. Thank you for a lovely lunch. Sue & Angela

my wife and I were on a break in Cardiff from 1st June to 4th June and we noticed that this new restaurant had opened looked at the menu outside and decided to make a change from our usual eatery, on Entry we were greeted and promptly sat on lovely huge sofas laid out as a booth cosy and quite nice, the decor of the place, and the light effects was stunning, the menu had a good choice and there was an option for a 3 course meal with a glass of Prosecco for £22.00 seemed reasonable, and we went for the 3 course the wife had the ribs I went for the leek & Potato soup, ribs were good and well presented, soup was nice and there was a touch of drama with the black pepper to season the dish, we both opted for the sirloin steak with chips, neither of us like mushrooms and I don't like tomato but asked for bread in addition as a side order, and the wife ordered a portion of onion rings. I have to say the steak flavour and tenderness were superb, easily the best steak I have had in Cardiff, for a while, the only negative I have is the presentation of the steak my wife expects a garnish of salad with steak, and peas but these were not forthcoming, chips and bread were served on a board with the onion rings nice touch, I would give this 9 out of 10 I would have put 10 out of 10 but for the lack of garnish.we also did not have prosecco but were offered an alternative the waiter Scott was very attentive and friendly, I noticed the other bar staff were messing around a lot all in all a good visit but some issues with the bar

we visited this restaurant on the weekend of both the Amlin Challenge cup final and the Heineken Cup final. i had previusly booked a two course meal with Prosecco on amazon local. on the friday night we visited before the match. we were very impressed with our meals, i had the asparagus and watercress soup which was delicious and spicy and i had the salad nicoise which was beautiful. i was very impressed that the waitress asked how i would like my tuna cooked and it came perfect. the waiting staff were very good. my friends were delighted with their meals also. we came back there after the match and enjoyed a few pints at the big windows. we went to the heineken cup final on saturday and afterwards returned to the Maddison on the off-chance we could get a table. fair play we wrere seated straight away but wew regretted our decision. as it happened as we got such a soaking earlier i decided to go for the same soup and nicoise salad again. the soup was freezing cold for all three of us that ordered it. my tuna was only cooked on one side and in general all of us were very disappointed. we understand that it was a match day and very busy but this was extremely poor. if we hadnt gone in a second time i would have given 5 stars based on friday night alone but they left themselves down on saturday

I went to Maddisons with my wife for lunch as we had bought a Living Social half price voucher. The restaurant is very large and unusually lit not the sort of place we normally eat, however we thought give it a try. We were seated quickly but we were not rushed to order our food from what was a very limited lunchtime menu I had the Thai fishcakes which were very bland, my wife had mussels in a cream sauce which were again very bland, spices and seasoning need to be addressed. For our main course my wife had a snapper dish with a salad which she requested instead of potatoes and she was very pleased as it was beautiful and could not be faulted. I ordered the braised lamb with chips instead of new potatoes but for some reason received both types. My lamb was very tough and chewy and when I pointed this out to the waitress she took it away and the manager came and apologised and asked if I would like to choose something else instead, I replied that I was looking forward to some lamb so he went to the kitchen and soon returned with some french trimmed lamb cutlets with gravy that were not on the menu and fresh chips and it was beautiful. The manager returned to our table and explained that they were experiencing teething troubles with new staff and start up problems and apologised again. I should say that for a city centre restaurant the wine list was quite reasonable. I will give them some time to sort out their problems and will try them again

We had a voucher for 2 courses and cocktails which was great value - I booked via email and there was no problem when we turned up at 6:30, only 2 other tables were taken, maybe a dozen people drinking in the bar area.We ordered cocktails then had a 10 minute wait. In the mean time the manager came over and took our food orders. The cocktail waitress brought our drinks over and apologised for the wait, saying that she had been off for 2 weeks and forgotten how to make cocktails. They were both well made, but if we'd paid the usual £7.50 I'd have been very disappointed!A short while later our soup of the day starters arrived, and were very good, presented on platters with fresh bread and a garnish. The mains we'd ordered were sirloin with new potatoes and rib eye with chips - both very tender and cooked exactly as we'd ordered. The chips were salty and crunchy, potatoes soft and cooked well. The only fault we had was the lack of vegetables, both meals simply served with a mushroom, 1/2 tomato and garnish. The decor of the restaurant is excellent and finished to a high standard, with impressive high backed leather chairs creating booths between tables, The music shifted from uk garage to RnB to indie rock.Overall both very impressed with the food (and would have been if we'd paid pull price) but we seemed to spend most of the time waiting around and given the sparse amount of customers this didn't make sense - I can't imagine what it'd be like when busy.

Wen't to the bar to order drinks (beers and a couple of cocktails), after 5 solid minutes of being completely ignored by the bar staff as they chatted and messed about someone took my order. The beers arrived quickly but I was informed that it would take a few minutes for the cocktails to arrive, the girl serving us said that if we wanted to take a seat she would bring them over when they were ready. We said that we didn't mind waiting so we took a seat and waited for our drinks.... and waited... and waited....When the cocktails finally arrived they tasted super sweet and full of juice. I asked why the cocktails had taken so long and the girl said that she had to call her supervisor as "hardly anyone ever orders these" not the standard I expected when walking into a place that looked as flash as this. Poor service and unapologetic staff.would not recommend.

I tried Maddison ‘s set lunch menu with a group of work colleagues recently. The food itself was pleasant enough- the three cheese salad to start was tasty. Another member of the party had mussels to start that were served with a sauce seemingly made purely of flour! Not hugely pleasant. The burger I had for my main course wasn’t the best- the meat was chewy and the chips greasy, but other members of the group has curry and pasta respectively, and these were both perfectly acceptable. What really let Maddison down for us was the service. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful but, unfortunately, we had the impression that they didn’t know what they were doing. There were only 7 of us for lunch, yet they managed to forget one order entirely and mix another order up so that one member of the group was left with a meat pasta when they had ordered vegetarian. Service was slow to the point of being painful. The staff were very apologetic , but that didn’t make up for the mediocre food and diabolical service. I hope these are just teething problems and that things improve quickly, as it has the potential to be a lovely restaurant.

We had a Groupon voucher for two courses and a cocktail. As per Groupon terms and conditions we showed them the Groupon on the phone to which they weren't happy, they asked my girlfriend to come to the computer and log in so they could print off the voucher. She couldn't remember her password (her phones logs her in) so he then wanted her to Log into her emails to find the voucher. The entire episode was extremely embarrassing and simply not needed as all they had to do was write down a number. The unprofessionalism was astonishing, after 10 minutes the guy in charge gave up and accepted he had to write down the number (oh the horror) he apologised but I'm sorry it's not enough. If it wasn't so empty and awkward we would have left. It spoilt the night completely. We thought at least we could now pick a cocktail and try and enjoy the night but no they pick one for you and just bring it over. The place looked stylish in parts, tatty in others but staff lacked class throughout. Food was ok, certainly wouldn't pay the regular price though and without a doubt we won't be returning or recommending this venue.

Despite some teething problems one may expect in an opening week service-wise, the overall experience was very good. 4 attempts at trying to get the bottle of wine we ordered (which wasn't in stock after much toing and froing with various bottles), but the compromised choice didn't disappoint. I also wonder if the kitchen is a figurative mile away as it took far too long to bring some sauces to go with our meal - manager, if the kitchen is a long way away please consider stocking some condiments closer to the eating area. However, the food was almost faultless. We had the calamari and baked camembert to start and the 10oz sirloin and burger with bacon & gruyere with chilli relish as mains. Both the steak and burger were cooked to order (medium rare and medium, respectively) and were oozing flavour. nb: the burger could have contained more relish.Price-wise we were lucky as we had a deal. I do think the steaks are perhaps a little over-priced at £20 each. As a city bar - albeit one serving very good food - I wonder whether they're pricing themselves out of their typical target market slightly? Steak variety isn't brilliant either in the sense that you can have a 10oz fillet, ribeye or sirloin; Nothing bigger and nothing smaller. I think it would make more sense for them to sell a smaller option for folk with smaller appetites and that will allow them to differentiate on prices more. Perhaps sell 12oz and 6oz sirloin, that way you can just cut one in half if a customer prefers the smaller cut?? Overall, however, we were happy with what we had and would go back. They need to sharpen up the service (folk not paying enough attention, too long for condiments to arrive, colossal mix-up with a simple drinks order) but the venue and food quality should easily see them through while service issues are sorted.

I booked a table for 15 friends for my birthday in January 2014; I can't begin to stress how awful the entire experience was.Not only was the shift manager the rudest woman I have had the displeasure to encounter but so was the restaurant manager.Let me start by telling you that we spoke with a waitress who was polite, we asked her if the 50% off menu had a restricted time to be ordered by & she said NO, a couple of us knew the CHEF & we had asked him also & surprise, surprise he said NO.We hadn't decided on what we all wanted so she gave us a moment and then awhile later the shift manager came over to take our orders. When she had realised that the majority of the table were ordering from the 50% off menu she then decided to tell us we cannot order from that section as it is off the menu. So we asked in that case why were we given this menu? So she decided to pass blame onto me. BIG mistake & so unprofessional, THE CHEEK OF IT, & said when I had booked the table I didn't tell her what the party wanted, so I said very politely (at this point) I told you they didn't know what they wanted a week in advance and so they will decide on the night, Is that ok? And she had replied YES, so I asked so why is it now a problem? She walked off to speak with her boss and he said we cannot order from that menu so we asked to see him he refused to come over to our table to explain in what world he was in why we cannot?? RUDE, RUDE, RUDE.So when told her we had spoken to the waitress and chef and they said it is available to order she couldn't say anything apart from walk off to her boss each time. We didn't even have an apology for any inconvenience caused, but then again I would have been expecting a little too much.We had enough and went to NANDOS.THANKFULLY THEY KNOW HOW TO TREAT CUSTOMERS AND 15 IN ONE SITTING ASWEL.Imagine how much they could have taken from our table alone with alcohol flowing through the night as well. At 8.30 in the evening the place was a ghost town on a (Friday night)Shame on you Maddison, SHAME.

We visited on a very quiet Monday evening. I asked the waitor what one of the items on the menu consisted of and was told 'I don't know!' I ended up choosing the spicy chicken ramen which came with a side order of potatoes or chips! It was appallingly awful, over cooked processed noodles with a cold piece of chicken on top. My husbands side of chips arrived when he was half way through his main meal. The beer was also warm. To be quite honest I was shocked at how bad it was. As a nightclub it may be ok but as a venue for food stay well away.

Read good things on Trip Advisor about it, so went in for an early dinner with work colleagues. Not good.Fish came out raw had to be re-doneBBQ chicken burntMushroom stroganoff was printed on the menu 3 times, even said to the waitress in a jokey way and she said it was exactly the same dish but for different prices! No wireless card machine to even pay for the meal.Nothing said or discount offered for the problems above. Was quiet when we went and can only presume that this is not a one off.Looks good from the outside but can't back it up.Safe to say I was embarrassed for suggesting and wont be going back.

Fabulously, lavish, glamorous and spectacular new social spot. Maddison is a new up and coming bar and restaurant situated in St Mary Street. After spending just one night here, it was obvious that this place is exactly what Cardiff needs, and will no doubt become the next big thing for any Cardiff socialite. Maddison consists of four bars filled with every spirit you could ever imagine or need. The wine list seems never ending, with a huge variety available. The cocktails are delicious, delicate and stunningly presented by the polite and friendly staff, the variety is immense with flavours available from a Espresso Martini to a Raspberry Daiquiri. There are tables available for pre-booking that were sold out during the V.I.P. night on Saturday, clearly demonstrating a demand for this classy bar and restaurant already. The meals are spectacular, all very eloquently presented on wooden boards and presented in quaint dishes. I highly recommend the crispy chicken with mushrooms and truffle oil.The bar and restaurant is very unique in the fact it offers late tapas and tear & share dishes providing hungry customers with many tasty options to get stuck into whilst chatting, relaxing and having a good time, that I for one can guarantee. The lighting has been beautifully designed with a multi neon ceiling feature, all walls, stairs and bars have neon strip lighting. Maddison have pushed all the stops out, this bar and restaurant oozes class, elegance and glamour. There is a large dance floor with a live DJ and V.I.P. area, allowing you to swiftly move from drinks and food into a night out with your friends. This venue truly provides and caters for every need you could possibly think of on a night out. Whether it be for a dance, some beautiful food or some cocktails... Maddison is the place.

After visiting the venue for the rugby and booking a booth for pre match meal the food and service from the staff was first class so I decided to take my wife there on valentine nite and yet again I wasn't disappointed first class all round , going back this Friday with friends and already book booth for Wales vs Scotland from a selfish point of view I'd rather not tell anyone about this place so I can always get a booth for the rugby or other social events .. But that's me wanting number 2 booth all the time .. Well worth a try ( Mr J John )

What a great night out, great food' amazing selection and great choice for vegetarians. We attended on a Saturday night out, there was a DJ who started at 9pm and there is a dancefloor area separated off at the back of the venue which was very busy. This place is unique and nothing like it in cardiff - clean, friendly and helpful staff very polite and chef produced the most amazing food.Great decor- we had a great evening and danced after our meal and drinks at the bake of the venue on the dancefloor. Will definitely be returning.

You know how it is. You read great reviews, see beautiful pictures, but when you turn up, it’s just a little disappointing. Not so Maddison of Cardiff. You get the first indication of the quality when you approach. The façade looks strangely out of place, rather like seeing a racehorse at a donkey derby. You step inside and it’s like being transported to Park Lane. Clearly the inside design and general ambience has involved a lot of thought and a lot more money. But whatever they spent, it was worth it, because it’s clearly the best restaurant in the city centre by some margin. I particularly liked the bar on entry and the really innovative lighting. The waiting staff are attentive and very easy on the eye (surely no accident) and the menu offers a good variety both for those who like the traditional and those prepared to be more adventurous. The seating is not run-of-the-mill by any means; it is instead quite intimate and again, a lot of thought seems to have gone into this. For those so inclined there is a dancefloor to the rear, but I did not find this intrusive. Judging by the clientele, it’s where Cardiff’s affluent and beautiful people go. I tried some swordfish with avocado and chilli which was sublime with a very nice Chablis, the g/f had salmon with hollandaise sauce which looked great. Maddisons isn’t the cheapest place you will ever go but in my experience it is amongst the very best South Wales has to offer.

It was me and my boyfriends first break away in Cardiff and came across a groupon voucher which entitled both of us to a two course meal and cocktail for £29. We thought this was an incredible offer and were very pleased. We had never visited the restaurant so did not know what to expect but the exterior was beautiful. We was nervous at first after purchasing the groupon voucher as we did not know how to go around booking with the voucher. We simply phoned up and quoted the code and it was easy as that. When we walked in, we were offered a variety of seating and we quickly opted for the booth as they are beautiful! It wasn't busy at all with only two more couples in the restaurant. We thought due to purchasing such a cheap voucher our options would be limited, but to our suprise we could choose anything from the menu. This included the £23 fillet steak so we was very impressed! Our cocktails were bought to us straight away when we sat down however we did not get choice of cocktail and were given five minutes to ponder the menu. For starters we both ordered chicken wings with mint yoghurt dip. They bought this on a board for us both to share and was simply stunning and very good sized portions. For main we both opted for the 10oz rib eye steak with flat mushroom and grilled tomato. We both ordered a side of chips too. We also wanted peppercorn sauce but had none on the menu and we asked if they done any sauce similar but they said they could make us peppercorn sauce which we found was very kind of them. The meal came a few minutes after our starters which was very good although maybe they could have left it a few minutes more to leave the starters go down. The presentation of the food was perfect. In the end, we ended up paying £8.50 for our sides (two sauces & two chips) and £29. So for £37.50 for two courses each and two cocktails you cannot go wrong. However due to pricing, I would not opt to eat here without discount as it is very high end price wise but you do get quality for your food. One negative point however was that there was some dance class going on in the dancefloor area and throughout our whole meal, we could hear "and a 1, 2, 3, 4!" which we could humour, but could annoy people if they are paying full price.

Nice looking restaurant, excellent, friendly service and food that will ensure we go back again. Vegetarian meal was very, very good and my husband very much enjoyed the duck! We were very, very happy with our meal and the Maddison experience and have already been recommending it to other people.

Patatas fritas increíble! Siempre fresco y crujiente,. . La forma me encanta mi pescado y patatas fritas. El precio es un poco más caro que su habitual "fish and chips", sin embargo, se obtiene lo que se paga más. . . productos de gran calidad que hace la boca agua. Tienes que probar este lugar!
