It was cold, it was wet, we were hungry so stopped to read a menu, to be greeted by possibly the happiest waitress we have ever encountered. She was an absolute joy, bringing instant sunshine to the drab autumnal weather! Young lady, if you could bottle youself you would make a fortune!Anyway, being hungry we sidestepped the tasting platters in favour of the dish of the day, the Cod stew. WoW! Beutifully cooked Cod steak in a Catilan Stew( a very Putinesca style stew with added olives and capers.) Accompanied with a lovely Turkish bread and the obligitary bowl of fab chips (we are british, got to have chips!) A thoroughly enjoyable meal. complaints? no room for pud! We left what we didn't like, just the bowls-licked clean! As Arnie says-'We'll be back!' The whole staff are a credit to the establishment, and give an excellent reason to visit Newlyn. THANK YOU. A delicious light lunch here today. We arrived early – before midday - so didn’t have to queue for a table, but it was full, inside and out, by the time we left. If you do encounter a queue, it will be worth the wait. Scallops with chorizo and peppers, mussels, prawns with aioli were all excellent and perfectly prepared and presented. Wine and cider selection also good. A lovely place, with smiling service and excellent seafood cookery. Definitely on our “I’ll be back” list.

The Fish House - Fistral

20/10/2020: After an excellent experience last year, we returned and the food and views were just as good. This time I had a hot shell starter, which included scallop, crab claw, prawns and mussels in a beautiful thai style broth. For my main, I chose the prawn Sri Lankan curry with rice, a coconut timale and Dahl. My partner chose frito mistook, which she enjoyed too.
18/10/2020: Great little place overlooking Fistral beach. We went in for a bottle of wine and sat outside late afternoon and then decided to eat. Nice menu with decent amount of choice. All food was really good. Decent portions sensible prices. Great service throughout. It’s in an ugly glass building that houses a bunch of bars and restaurants like Rick Steins. This is a little gem.

The Wheel House

04/09/2020: Shell food ecstasy. Masticate slowly. The lobster is the screamer. Amazing eclectic rooms and cosy cabins outside. Wonderful team. Recommended in the Daily Telegraph. This isn't 5 star. It's a galaxy. Beats pasty. We shall come again.
21/07/2020: Our children and grandchildren rented a house post lockdown in Cornwall. In the few day we were there,we stayed on the Roseland Penisula and visited St Mawes. We were recommended the Wheelhouse. They had a table, and we had two plates of grilled shellfish. Two delightful young women ran the restaurant.A real treat after weeks of lockdown.
