MacGregor's Bar in Highland

Great casual dinner our first night in Inverness. We had reservations but showed up a little early and they were able to accommodate us. Live entertainment for the night was old standards sung by a young man - couldn't have been more than 16 or 17, but he was amazing! Good drinks and dinner - my daughters loved their fish and chips and husband had the salmon, which he said was very good. I had the steak and ale pie, which was a deconstructed version of a traditional pie and was very good. Would definitely visit again!

Amazing food in a wonderful setting and fantastic service from Mia. Made us feel very welcome and the playlist even added more to the experience. Haggis Bhajis and Warrior burger so nice. The mussels were also delicious according to my wife. Booked immediately to go again!

Staff are so welcoming and friendly. Offer tastings of drinks and really seem to care about the customers - not something that you often get in a city centre pub, but it’s so refreshing to see. It’s no wonder that the place is always busy! Live music too which is always great.

A local from Inverness suggested we visit MacGregor’s on a Sunday afternoon at 4pm. Locals from the area gather there to play their instruments and have a “jam session - Scottish style”. What a wonderfully enjoyable experience! MacGregor’s offers a delicious buffet complete with carving stations on Sundays. We took full advantage of that along with their local draft beer selection and extensive spirits menu. Good time were had by all.

My husband and I visited this bar/restaurant while staying in Inverness last wkend. What a find. I always check on Tripadvisor when looking for recommendations on where to go and this was one of the most popular, so glad we booked it. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We both had the sirloin steak which was cooked exactly how we like it (medium rare), it was delicious. My husband then had the cranachan cheesecake which went down a storm and although I was full after my steak, I managed a wee spoonful of it and kind of regretted not having one myself. The restaurant had a lovely vibe to it and had great background music playing. After we had finished our dinner the lovely waitress managed to find us a table next door in the bar area where there was a live singer. The atmosphere was amazing, the singer was brilliant and the staff were up on the bar dancing aswell. We stayed there for the rest of the night and it was the best night out we have had in a long time. I have an autoimmune disease which limits my mobility but the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. We visit Inverness every year and will definitely be booking here again next year.

Cosy, homely and modern feel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would go out of their way to do what they could for you. We had a food tasting for our wedding as we have asked them to cater for us. BBQ style menu and it was excellent! Would highly recommend!

Best sausage and mash I have ever tasted. Wife's veggie burger was really nice. Beer was good and service was quick. We thought the lighting was a little too bright for us and didn't feel cosy. That said, I would.still return for the food

Bar and restaurant with amazing atmosphere in inverness. Fireplaces to warm you up. Good beer, good food, staff's courtesy and people playing Scot folk music inside the bar makes the the experience unique.

Popped in for a quick drink before our meal. Good choice of beers available on tap, quite a few from Cromarty Brewery which we were pleased with. However, service was slow, even though it was just the 2 of us at the bar. Decided against staying for another. Shame as it looks like it would be a good choice if live music was on

The food was really good! We had the fish & chips and the mussels, both really lovely. The service was also very nice, we asked for some local whisky’s and they gave us good ones and decently priced. All in all a good night with nice food and pleasant people.

This restaurant was pretty busy on a Thursday evening but they squeezed us in! The waitress was knowledgeable about the brews and offered great suggestions based on my party’s preferences. The fish and chips were delicious, and my fiancée really enjoyed the mussels and Cullen skink!

A lovely Restaurant very rustic and cosy with a very welcoming glowing fire burning away in the fireplace on a cold Scottish night in November. Staff very friendly especially the Whiskey Waiter who filled us with interesting information about various Whiskeys and which ones he would recommend after asking us a few questions, a lovely tasting experience. Food lovely, I chose Salmon, partner ordered the Beastie Burger which definitely lived up to its title. Wine equally lovely in this very laid back and cosy dog friendly Bar. Yes we would happily return again should we return to Inverness ;o)

I've been dreaming of the Warrior burger from MacGregor's since we left a week ago... it was by far the best meal I had while in Scotland. Friendly pub with lovely regulars, we felt invited from the moment we walked in. Definitely worth a stop in for some food and a pint... I look forward to coming back to Scotland and visiting MacGregor's again some day!

Friendly bar with a mixed crowd (tourists/locals and varied ages) band playing traditional music and a cosy log burning stove. Perfect for a cold wet evening. They have Little MacGregors restaurant next door and a fantastic beer garden out the back. Well worth a visit at any time of year

Order the fritter version of the Haggis, and the bangers and mash with some stout Amazing food, warm and cozy atmosphere.

Made a reservation requesting a view of the rugby game. When we arrived we waited while we gave the table with the view of the game away and escorted us to a side room with an overpowering fishy smell. Otherwise the service was good and the food decent but not notable. Deducting a further star for the owner's response that we should have been aware of a first come first serve policy that was both unposted and not communicated when we reserved. We would have gone somewhere else if we had known.

Very nice pub close to the Inverness rail and bus stations. No hubris whatsoever in accepting customers, even when busy, so great reception. There is also a very broad range of dishes, which is surprising for a pub, plus there is live music almost every evening if that is what interest you. Not cheap by any means but the quality and portions are right up there.

Good pub, burgers looked good in photos but we're not good at all. Good live music every night, but went to watch rugby and this was not a great place for that. TV is placed awkwardly behind the piano in a corner.

My wife and I had different meals, and commonly taste each other’s. Both were wonderful. The friendly waitress was so much fun and introduced us two Aussies to Irn-Bru Scottish soft drink. Good on ya!!!

Our favorite bar that we went to in Scotland. Shelly, Mia and Frazier were excellent and since we were there on a Monday night we got to hear the owners fiddle and guitar band which was great. We sampled most of the menu and our favorites were the mussels and chicken wings. Can’t wait to go back next time we visit.

Such mixed emotions here. Atmosphere was lively and high spirited, but in order to sit in the main room with the bar, be prepared because the music was very loud, and the fire made the room almost too hot to stay in. Service was fantastic, friendly, and prompt. The MacGregor’s Mussels were divine and would 100% recommend. We had a roast chicken and haggis dish that was just ok. Would not order again.

Loved the food and the drinks. We stopped in for a late lunch of fish & chips and a haggis burger. They were delicious. I couldn’t believe the burger was so good!

Having been in MacGregor‘s on countless occasions in the past, I was somewhat disappointed to be told I had to order over the shoulders of the people who are sitting at the bar. This was disrespectful to me, and disrespectful to the customers sitting at the bar, print, it would have been considerably simpler for staff, me and other customers to take the order where I was standing. I can only assume the staff are following some arbitrary rule, since individually they have always proved to be very pleasant.

We stopped here on last minute recommendation and are glad we did! Great beer, and we really enjoyed the Fish and Chips and the Chicken sriracha pizza.

Great meal. Tasty pub food. Took a couple of overseas friends there. Very friendly and we stayed on to watch the music and have a wee dram or two. All in all a great night.

Had a wee get-together with friends at MacGregors and it was very enjoyable, staff were chatty friendly and up for a laugh. Too early for the music on that day but we chatted with an American couple on holiday so it was very enjoyable, we are planning to return again, thank you very much.

Best food we had in Scotland! They had a really great selection for food and drinks. The food menu had a lot of charm in the naming of the dishes. Literally the best vegetarian burger I've ever had (Mental Red Lentil... Burger). I'm only sad...

Terrible experience booked in advanace to celebrate the completion of the Inverness Marathon. Booked for 7.45 took over half an hour to get our order, we ordered wine and food and was having a nice night when then out of the blue before we are about to order deserts coffee and cocktails at 9.15 pm the girl says we have 10 minutes to leave they're shutting.we could go to other bar but it's called last orders yet on website it says open until midnight. SHOCKING !!!!!! THANKS MCREGGORS FOR SPOILING A GREAT DAY.

Really! Had to go to the bar 3 times to sort out which beer we wanted! Starter had to ask for a dish to put mussel shells in, main course partner orderd the rib eye special £31!!!!! For a ribeye. No price quoted but well...

What a wonderful experience at MacGregor’s. The stories, the violin, the food and the drinks were awesome. We will sure stop in next tine we are in Inverness.

Great place for good food and good beer

Just want to add that the music at MacGregor's is terrific. We had the good fortune to hear MacGregor on Sunday and Monday and it was a real treat. Everyone at the bar couldn't be friendlier - especially the bartenders. A great place to eat and enjoy.

Amazing food and a great atmosphere.

Recommended to us by the tall ex-navy staff member at Dalwhinnie distillery (sorry, it's been a few days and more than a few whiskies, so his name has slipped my mind!), and we are glad we took his advice! Great food and beer in a warm and cosy (sat near the wood-burning stove...) bar. Staff were friendly and helpful, and we met some interesting people to chat with during our evening there.

We had the best time ever at this bar. The whiskies were all good, and the staff WAS the menu. Fin and Jamie both had excellent recommendations and even better stories--I absolutely loved hearing about Ogilvie's Warriors and learning about the graveyard just across the street! The whole time he asked "stop me if you're bored." My man, we were NEVER bored. I was only sad that we were in town for such a short while. We also enjoyed the folk music and ambiance--truly a great way to spend the evening.

Best place in town for Scottish music. They even played Jolene (Dolly Parton) and had everyone in the bar singing. Order at the bar. We did not eat just drank. Nice little pub. Patrons were friendly and squeezed us in nicely.

A great night out, fab friendly staff, so accommodating with my dog and the live bands are fab, a great night out, highly recommended

I went for dinner. The food was not very good. The haggis was ok I guess, if you like it fried. It seemed more like meaty falafel. The steak in the steak pie was tender and ok flavor but pretty dry. Service was fine

Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The batter and fish were sooooo light. Workers were very knowledgeable about all the drinks and made suggestions to improve what I asked for. Workers were so friendly.

Found this gem on Google. We arrived just before 6pm, place was very busy, not many table’s available. One thing we have noticed is most pubs in Scotland do not offer table service. All orders must be placed at the Bar. My bill price is higher than normal, I ordered an expensive dram of scotch. The fish & chips did not disappoint. Large portion of of fish with a light batter. Definitely recommend this place. This a popular local spot so get in early, their to busy for phones.

Friends in Inverness had booked a table. Live music, local beer and local cuisine make this a great place. The beer was excellent and the atmosphere was amazing. The food was simple but delicious: langoustines and mussels were incredible. Simple wine choices but perfectly OK....

The best mussels I’ve had in a long time!! Very large and juicy with a delicious winey, cream, garlic and parsley marinière. Service lovely and everything came very promptly. Would highly recommend!!

We had delicious, early dinner here before joining the whiskey tasting. They have a very nice outdoor area to enjoy a drink when the weather is nice. You need reservations for the whiskey tasting which takes place in a cozy little room in the basement. Bruce is proprietor and host, and you can tell that this is what he is born to do! He's a wonderful story teller, with a great tale, of the local history that goes beyond tartans and kilts. All while also educating you on the whiskeys you're trying. He's also one of the best fiddle players I've ever seen! We had a blast and recommend this to anyone visiting Inverness.

Wonderful craft beer selection and very nice bar tenders, who were also knowledgeable about beer and gave nice recommendations for bottle shops in town. Outdoor tables, but if you just want beer, sit at the bar because they give such good advice. Friendly and warm...

Excellent spot! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was pleasant. There’s really two halves to the restaurant; one side has a bar and live music, while the other is a bit smaller and quieter. Nice to have options depending on your preferences. There’s a wonderful beer, cider, and whiskey selection. The decor is clever, witty, and warm. My only critique is on the service. It was good! But it wasn’t excellent. Again, not a major complaint, the service didn’t detract from the experience at all just an area that could maybe improve. Definitely would recommend it to others!

Most of all , do not miss visiting this place

Nice food, staff and drinks options (whisky/ beer in particular). Barman enthusiastic about his purvey and the staff were pleasant too, even laughing at some of our jokes which was very charitable of them. Would visit again and recommend for a meet up with pals.

Food was delicious, people were so kind. Vibe was immaculate, music was an incredible addition. Stopped by accident, loved it!

We went to the whiskey tasting. It was great! We highly recommend. It was interesting to hear the folklore, music, stories, culture. There was whiskey too, if you like whiskey.

Después de tomar unas cervezas y disfrutar de la música en vivo pedimos 2 whiskys (menos de un chupito) y al pagar los 14 pounds, la camarera retiró el datáfono y reescribió la cantidad, subiendo a 20, sin explicar nada ni mirarnos si quiera (fue al ver la cantidad que había tecleado el chico que nos había servido). Me quise asegurar de que no me estaba cobrando alguna cerveza de las que ya habíamos pagado y le pregunté que si nos estaba cobrando solo los whiskys, a lo que dijo que sí muy seria. No entendimos nada, pagamos y nos fuimos con una gran sensación de estafa. Estábamos de vacaciones y no queríamos llegar al fondo del asunto en el momento, pero eso ha hecho que asociemos Inverness en nuestro viaje a estafa al turista. Dejo la reseña para que otros consumidores pregunten muy bien el precio antes de pedir y no se relajen en estos lugares turísticos (suponiendo que lo que nos cobraron no tenga que ver con un impuesto sacado de la manga de esa persona). Respecto a los trabajadores, espero que hagan un curso de comunicación y/o trato a los clientes. No se cambia el precio del datáfono sin pedir disculpas no explicarse un mínimo.

Well located pub with live and amazing music. The food was fantastic (the mussels and the burguers are really good). The price is good and the staff is always trying to help. Ah!, its dog friendly, so you can go with your dog. The pub has a good terrace where you can enjoy the day. 100% recommended

Heard good reports so thought I'd give it a try. Service was very slow but the menu looked good. Ordered the Steak Pie and my colleague got the Chicken salad. Food took a wee while to arrive then it was another 5 mins for the condiments to arrive! The steak was extremely salty but the pastry and the chips were fine. The veg (parsnip and carrot) were boiled tasteless. All in all it was probably edible but pretty average pub food. Disappointed. Outstanding beers on offer though.

We came here after a full day tour and narrowly missed ordering from the regular menu. After 8:30 you need to order from the nightly menu with limited items. However the food we ordered was tasty...service was fast..place was packed but there were patrons who shared their large table since they were a group of only 2. There was live music which made the experience all the more enjoyable

What a wonderful night at MacGregor's! We sat outside sharing a table with strangers (who became friends) listening to live music. The food was wonderful. I'm celiac and order the vegan burger. Unfortunately they ran out of it but worked so hard to find me a substitute. I ended up having the most delicious salmon! Highly recommend!

Great choice of beers and lovely outside sitting area. Food…..hmmm had 2 portions of dirty fries and they were mediocre. Over bearing with the sweet chilli sauce, cheese was not melted and seemed pre grated. Chicken was not homemade tenders, kinda cold and to be honest underwhelming and disappointing. Would go back for beer would stick with crisps next time
