I was here with a group of friends on a Saturday night for a birthday party. We ordered a set meal which had a great variety of food for us all to share. The food was delicious. One of the nicest Chinese meals I’ve had in a long time. It was good value, especially being a BYO alcohol place. The staff were pleasant and service was good.

Another visit with a group of 8. We had the fixed menu and it was superb. There was a lot of food! No one leaves here hungry. In particular the duck, the monkfish and char su hotpot and the salt chilli aubergines were sublime. The best Chinese restaurant in Belfast in my opinion.

Went in to get some takeaway as I was staying nearby , the food was very bland and tasteless, can’t believe all the great reviews , thought this was gonna be sensational , maybe because I live in London and we have so much choice but I thought it was average and I myself can cook better than what I was given , not recommended at all

We come to Macau because we know that we always receive five star service and five star quality food. Always relaxed and very much welcomed. Take out quality just as good.

Superb, as always! Squid, prawn and crab are stand out. Quality is consistently excellent Highly recommended for sit in or take away.

An amazing dinner this evening at this fabulous restaurant, absolutely delicious meal and it says a lot when one of Belfast’s top Chef’s is also dining there. A warm welcome and excellent service, nothing is too much trouble, can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Great Chinese restaurant with both westernised Chinese dishes and some more authentic offerings which is nice to see. Nice and comfortable interior with a decent amount of tables. The staff were very fast, efficient, and courteous. Overall a very nice restaurant and I would recommend visiting here.

Food was unreal, so fresh and taste was amazing. Great that you can bring your own and staff never far away to ask them to open your wine or beer for you... Quite a quiet restaurant so very easy to chat to each other.

Four of us had an excellent meal at this superb Chinese restaurant. Please be advised,this is a cash only restaurant. The food,service and ambiance is very good. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Great food with attentive service....

Amazing food and brisk service. Some dishes are unique to Macau, such as aubergine stuffed with prawn paste and served with black bean sauce and red chilli. Also, light as a feather deep fried aubergine with salt and chilli. Nowhere knows how to treat an aubergine like Macau. They also do a delicious salt and chilli squid, and a soft shell crab with cumin. And if you haven't already, order the slow cooked cod with crispy fried garlic and spring onion. You're welcome.

This family-run Chinese restaurant is a hidden gem on the Ormeau Road. All the locals love the place, but it deserves recognition as one of the best Chinese restaurants in Belfast. The decor is unassuming and the staff friendly, but it’s the quality of the food that is the star of the show. The beef hotpot is a favourite of mine as are the duck dishes. All standard Chinese dishes but executed incredibly well. Great place!

Not known for its decor or ambience, but for its excellent food. Service is hit and miss.. Some staff are excellent, others decidedly providing practical service with no extras!

We ordered a take away. Lovely staff but the food was nothing short of disgusting The chicken fried rice was slimey & tasteless. There was no taste to the lemon chicken & noodles. The free crackers were the best. Good food isn't cheap but this was neither good or cheap.

Visited this restaurant for the first time. Unbelievably, for starters we were both served food that was not freshly cooked. When I asked about the vegetable spring rolls not being freshly made I was told that there was no suggestion on the menu that they were cooked on site!! Main meal was really awful, not fit to eat for one person and mine was below average for chicken/black bean. Daughter had noddles as a side which were tasteless. She left her main meal and both sides. Cash only in this day and age is so weird. How on earth would that be viable for anyone to have cash for a big party of people!! Worst place that I have eaten in. If I wanted spring rolls out of a packet then I would go to a supermarket freezer for them, but I didn't. Paying a premium price for each part of meal out, and I was not expecting that it would be served up within minutes and that is one reason that I noticed that it was being heated up!! What a waste of money.

Tasty food but they don't start cooking a takeaway order until you arrive. Even if you order in advance over the phone and come when they say, you'll be standing for about 20 minutes beside people eating their dinner. Awkward to order takeaway from but very tasty.

Didn't have a starter as they said dumplings were *off tonight*. I think that means the chef couldn't be arsed. Portions poor and a bit bland. Got special chow mein and only 1 prawn!. Upset stomach immediately on leaving. Won't be back.

The and I mean THE best food I've ever had.. service was amazing, food incredible and the atmosphere fantastic! Place was packed but social distant with barriers between tables, staff wearing masks and gloves and disinfectant cleaning of tables after tabled cleared! Counting down the days till we are back again!

I was at Macau for a family meal. The food was excellent and the staff were brilliant. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Belfast.

First time here, after being reccomended by quite a few people thought we would give it a go, food was so tasty and fresh, service from we walked through the door was 1st class can easily see why it has been going 18 years a credit to the owners. Well worth a visit thanks for a good night

Very good place that you can easily go every week with your family, friends, colleagues and partner,since its very affordable. Youre allowed to bring your own drinks. Portions are big, even starter and if you can't finish it, ask the staff to pack it home for you. Very friendly staff. This place offers a take away also. Cash only, close to ormeau Park and the petrol station.

Came with a group of 5 30-40 somethings for a meal on a Saturday evening. We we did the set menu which was great. I wouldn’t be the most adventurous when it comes to Chinese food but this was a way for me to try different things. Price was reasonable. Food was first class. It’s BYOB which was also quite an appeal on a busy Saturday night post lockdown in Belfast. Staff were attentive and pleasant. Will be back.

I suppose with Chinese food it’s all about what you choose- curry is curry and sweet and sour is sweet and sour! However we have our favourite dishes at Macau which are outstanding- the salt chilli squid and salt chilli prawns are incredible and our favourite- monkfish char Sui hotpot is to die for- the streamed fish with ginger and soy is plentiful ,fresh and gorgeous too- great for anyone watching the calories! Service is friendly and attentive. Love it ! Thank you Macau.

based on reviews i ordered a salted chilli squid starter. flavour was there but chewy and rubbery, obviously overcooked. Main was the hosts recommendation, sea bass with ginger and spring onion based sauce. nicely cooked but zero flavour and the sauce was a watery nothingness, best described as a jus, not a sauce. i left 75% on the plate. the fried rice side was again flavourless, underseasoned, left most of it in the bowl. will not be returning.

So good to be back to one of N Ireland’s best restaurants .. delicious cuisine and excellent service .. thank you to all at Macau for an amazing evening!

If you are getting the slow roast cod with garlic and chilli don’t make my mistake and be caught wearing your favourite socks. I did and now they’ve been blown off. I really liked those socks.

The food here was bland and smelt awful. Parts of my food were boiling and parts were freezing and the noodles were hard - giving me the impression that my food was microwaves. The waiters/waitresses are quite ignorant and unprofessional. The interior is terrible

We only tried the seafood dishes. We had king prawns, scallops and monkfish. The quality of all the food was exceptional and staff were helpful and pleasant. Highly recommend.

Have eaten here on many occasions and never had a bad meal. Busy on Rugby nights so book ahead. Salt and Chilli prawns a must!

My favourite sit-in Chinese restaurant. Menu has the classics but really recommend venturing off piste and ordering something different. My favourite is the Monkfish hotpot, both types.

Para empezar, mi esposa tenía pollo y sopa de maíz dulce (que ella dijo que era encantador), y nuestro amigo y yo teníamos albóndigas de cerdo (no del todo mal). Para el plato principal tuve el rape y el hervidor de verduras en escabeche, y tenían platos de fideos con gambas y pollo. Nuestra sensación general fue que la comida era buena, pero (con la excepción de mi rape) no era nada que no pudieras conseguir en una comida para llevar decente. También parece que Macao está utilizando demasiada harina de maíz, particularmente en el hotpot. El personal fue excelente y no se les puede culpar, pero definitivamente recuerdo que la comida fue mejor hace años. Aún así no es un mal lugar chino.

Food was as usual excellent. You need to bring your own alcohol and it's so popular you need to book week's in advance. Very, very well worth a visit.

Las gambas y los entrantes de calamar eran deliciosos, acompañando la ensalada era realmente fresca, no solo una guarnición. Bolas de masa bien también. Bacalao y merluza ambos sobresalientes. El servicio y la bienvenida fue cálido y profesional. Suling y su equipo dirigen un eficiente restaurante. Bonificación añadida. . . Puedes traer tu cerveza / vino, etc. Gran valor también. Very lovely staff and great food - we were made to feel very welcome despite booking at short notice. The food came extremely quick yet was decent. It's also BYOB. I hope to go back again soon.

I remember when Macau opened and I thought that it was a great restaurant. I hadn't been for a while and went a few months ago. Wasn't overly impressed but decided to go back again tonight

Many people have often raved about this restaurant so we tried it around a year ago and thought it was very poor, planned to give it a second chance in case we got a bad night or picked the wrong dishes. Unfortunately on another recent visit the food can only be described as terrible, every single aspect of the food was bad, ranging from flavourless to just weird flavours, this was across 8 dishes starters/mains. Meat was rubbery, sauces unpleasent. Absolutely will never be back.

Five of us had the set menu for four last night in Macau. The starters were large portions and the squid was delicious. We had four mains with rice and noodles and my favourite was the roast duck. The beef in black bean sauce was really tasty. The service was top class. As it is BYO the bill was around 23 pounds ahead. Excellent value for money and excellent food. Well done everyone in Macau.

Stodgy dumplings, tasteless soup and unimaginative main. Just poor all round. Not flavored authentically and poor quality ingredients. Cash only, which is very unusual these days. Please save your money and try somewhere else.

Came here with some friends for a meal near Christmas, have to say the food was unreal! Faultless. Staff were attentive, it must be mentioned that this place is bring your own beer / wine.

Celebrated our wedding anniversary here tonight. Had salt chilli squid, duck with ginger and pineapple, soft noodles with bean sprouts, special curry and fried rice. Exceptional flavours and presentation. The staff so friendly with excellent service. Thank you Macau for a wonderful eating experience

Starters were good. We had dumplings, spring rolls and salt n chilli king prawns. Waiter was abrupt and borderline rude. My sister and I ordered 2 different chicken dishes for our mains. The chicken was really poor quality and absolutely tasteless. The hot and spicy beef dish was very nice. Ordered 2 portions of soft noodles, got one spoonful each and then the noodles were taken away and set somewhere and never seen again. Complained at the end and so didn't pay for them. My younger sister didn't get her chowmein and then the waiter blamed her for not ordering it. Rude. All in all, overpriced and I could have cooked better myself.
