M & A Cafe in Derbyshire Dales

Lovely food and service at this cafe. Dropped in by chance with my wife, daughter and grandson. Had the quiche platters, and delicious coffees and spectacular Mars Bar milkshake. Followed by scone, cream and jam - only thing I’d say was that the scone would be better WITHOUT the cinnamon! But beautifully presented. The cafe may also do sandwiches on busier days, but this was a quiet Thursday. Overall enjoyed the cafe AND the owner (a character!) and staff. Also a bonus: spotlessly clean loo!

Good things first, the place is decorated lovely and very clean. That’s the beginning and end of the good points; Extortionate prices for dry cake (that tasted and looked like it had been prepared by the local borstal’s home ec class) and weak, cheap coffee. Cakes advertised as home made but we sat there watching the manager carry them in in boxes from his car. The manager himself is an overbearing and noisy character who looked like a portly Victor Meldrew in pink shorts (yes, pink shorts!!!). My companion and I couldn’t hear ourselves talk over the table due to his booming voice and constant “banter” with his staff. Not the relaxing cuppa we had planned! For the money you can get much better value and a much quieter drink literally anywhere else! Needless to say, we shall not be returning.

Cheese scone platter was just heaven on a plate! Owners were so friendly. Definitely will return again

Best coffee I ever had in my life!!! The coffee house was beautifully decorated and set the tone for the best coffee experience of my life. It took them some time to make it, but it was all worth it. They gave complimentary biscuits which made everything even better, not to mention the incredible latte art. I also had some cake, which tasted beyond amazing. The people running it were extremely nice and charming, and if I could I'd go there everyday for my morning coffee! If you are in the area, you HAVE to go in!!!

Had a lovely lunch of really tasty sandwiches. Staff very welcoming and helpful - high chair for baby and changing facilities. Returned in the afternoon for a scone and cake which were also delicious.

We visiited this charming Cafe for lunch last Sunday. It was very busy but we were assurred we would have lunch in plenty of time to make our coach at Abraham Heights which of course we did. They were so friendly and the service was brilliant and I had the best ploughmans (complete with lovely cheese, ham and cheese scone) I have ever eaten. My friend had an extremely fresh egg and cheese sandwich. The cake looked fresh and irresistable but unfortunately we didn't have time to sample it. I would definitely recommend this super little cafe as part of your Matlock Bath experience !

U had the absolute pleasure if visiting this cafe tiday with my son and grandchildren . The staff were so welcoming and friendly and the foid wasfab , the lovely lady called maria even gave my grandchildren some free treats , will deffinately go again when im in the area . What a wonderful cafe! We arrived late in the afternoon expecting the cafes in town to close, but we were given a warm welcome. Tea and the most wonderful cakes, baked by the owner, were served promptly and with a smile. Our little dog was also treated to dog biscuits. Such lovely people who own this cafe and they have put a great deal of thought and effort into making it what it is.

Someone in this cafe certainly knows how to bake. Was looking for a great coffee and cake on a wet Sunday morning and I wasn’t disappointed. The Apple and Salted Caramel Parkin was one of the best cakes I have had coupled with a perfect cappuccino more than I expected. Seems the cafe has only been open a week, good luck everyone involved lovely visit and extremely friendly staff.

We visited on Sunday 17th October, party of 5 adults and 2 children. It was the new owners 1st trading weekend and despite being extremely busy when we called in, they were very friendly and accommodating ( they appeared to have worked very well under pressure!) The look of the cakes and drinks were impressive and they did not disappoint in taste. There was a great selection of reasonably priced cakes, all handmade by the owner and a good drinks menu. 5 of us had the luxury hot chocolate and it was delicious, piled high with cream, chocolate curls, marshmallows and a chocolate flake thrown on for good measure. One of the best hot chocolates I have ever tasted. My peanut and salted caramel brownie was divine and everyone else enjoyed their (huge) slices of red velvet cake and chocolate orange cake. My hubby enjoyed a cream tea with a blueberry scone, served with a generous pot of lemon curd and cream, alongside a very good Americano coffee. Well worth a visit if you are in Matlock Bath - look out for the very funky sofas, made by the owner from actual baths! Wishing the best of luck to the new owners in their venture 🙂👍

Popped in for an afternoon drink and cake and was very impressed. Nice hot drinks and well priced brownies and cakes.

From the outside you’d be forgiven for thinking M&A serve hot drinks and sweet, sugary goods. We were walking past and thought we’d give it a go as everything else looked rammed. What a pleasant surprise; such a range of good quality food and drink on offer. We felt they over delivered on our expectations and we left convinced we’d found a gem and will be back! If you’re in the Bath give it a try and see what you think

Great place for a coffee and a cake , nice and clean and friendly staff. Daughter loved the milkshake as there are a good selection to choose from. Will definitely return again when in Matlock.

We were a family of four and the milkshakes looked amazing from the pictures so had to try. We were not disappointed they were excellent and the cakes and the Roast Pork rolls. Very good and will be back 😀

We visited Matlock Bath on Sunday and decided to get a late breakfast/early lunch. We walked in to this place purely because it wasn’t filled with bikers- and we are so glad we did! The lady serving informed us that they weren’t serving food at the moment, but because the cafe (and cakes!) looked so nice we decided that we’d still stop for drinks and cake. It’s a beautiful little cafe with great attention to detail. The coffee tasted amazing and the cake was great. The kids had milkshakes and they felt like a real treat to them. We will definitely be stopping by every time we visit Matlock Bath!

Great find of a cafe - it is clean and well presented, the staff are polite, coffee good and the cake is excellent. Keep up the good work.

Long Wait for food, got order wrong and tried to blame us for it, man from the kitchen was rude. Wasn’t busy and staff didn’t know what they was doing. Won’t return.

I visited this cafe with my wife at about 1.30pm having seen a board outside advertising an offer of a bacon roll with any hot drink for £4. The menu showed the same details. However we were charged separately for a latte and bacon sandwich the total of which was in excess of £4.When I queried the matter I was told that the offer only ran to 11.30am and that this would have been explained to my wife when she ordered - however she had not picked up on the ramifications having ordered something different. I believe that the board and menu should have both clearly stated the terms of the offer. If I had known about the 11.30am cut off I might well gone somewhere else. In fairness the cafe itself was really pleasant with a nice atmosphere and although in the scheme of things it was not the end of the world my visit was spoilt by the nagging thought that I had been misled into stepping inside.

Stopped off for a warm drink after a bracing walk at Matlock Bath. Lovely friendly staff, comfortable seats and good prices. Definitely worth stopping by - we'll go back!

Had a fantastic family lunch at m & a cafe we all decided to have their famous club sandwiches beautifully presented And super tasty Service was second to none highly recommended Will definitely be back again next time going to try one of the ice cream milkshakes

Called in for lunch after realising we couldn’t gain access to Chatworth Xmas market because we hadn’t pre-booked. However, eating here was a joy! Beautiful coffee and our panninis were absolutely great, served with salad and some very tasty coleslaw. This more than made up for our disappointment. The couple who run this cafe are so charming, we really hope they do well. If you’re in the area, please call in, you won’t be sorry!!

Popped in for a drink after visiting the aquarium today and we all had a really lovely drink! My hot chocolate was amazing!!☕☕. Really nice modern cafe and friendly staff. Would recommend a visit.

Had a gorgeous Pepperoni and cheese panini which came with a salad and coleslaw, my mother had a toasted tea cake! Both of which were gorgeous and tasted lovely!!! We will definitely be returning to try more of the food!

Me and my partner stopped here for a coffee after a long challenging walk, it was just what we needed. The coffee was great and the cake was delicious. Surprised how understated and great value it was - will definitely come again if we are ever back in the area.

This was the first time we visited and won't be the last! The staff member on duty was lovely and couldn't help us enough. We had a hot drink, a cake and a sandwich and everything was really nice. We saw other people have the scones which looked amazing. The seating area is layed out really well, we managed to get a seat by the window so we could people watch. I would highly recommend this place. The food menu was really varied and lots of choice of cakes and drinks to chose from.

We visited here whilst at the Illuminations . Staff are very helpful and friendly. This place is far more upmarket than some of the tacky /dated eateries nearby!

Lovely coffee shop. Great selection, nice coffee and great atmosphere. Waffle shop next door and they let our kids bring their waffles in too.

Like others have said we were struggling to find somewhere decent in Matlock Bath where we could get something light to eat. I’m so glad we found this lovely little cafe.

As we walked down the street in search of a light lunch having walked the High Tor, Giddy Edge walk from Matlock we were hit by the stench of chip fat that permeated the air. About to give up at the top of the street we found a little gem selling American pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Highly recommended for snacks in an immaculate cafe with very good service.

We visited this café for a bite to eat after visiting nearby attractions. We really wanted a light bite as we were going for a meal out in the evening. We struggled to find anything but fish and chips so were relieved to find this café.

Came here today for lovely milkshakes and cakes, unfortunately our daughter got stung by a wasp in there and was screaming the place down but I can't thank the staff here enough for trying to calm her down,great place

On our first little family visit to Matlock Bath we walk the stretch from the train station taking him all the places we might eat I'm glad we went to the very end it was there where we stumbled across this little beauty we ordered from the menu a child's sandwich meal and cheese toasties for the both of us for an extra pound you have a nice fresh salad and coleslaw we accompany that with two teapots of tea this cafe is very clean the decor is nice and calming the staff were full of smiles and the price was brilliant too I'd recommend this place to anyone definitely going to call back the next time we visit Matlock Bath well done guys

Popped into this gorgeous little cafe today and was greeted by a lovely lady, we only had drinks but it was a lovely atmosphere and my boyfriend enjoyed his caramel crisp! We will be returning for sure after seeing the varied and reasonably priced menu!

Family friendly cafe with a welcoming calm atmosphere. A variety of homemade cakes and a selection of delicious light bite lunches! Hot drinks, cold drinks, alcoholic drinks! Great value for money! Highly worth a visit

Good modern attractive cafe, welcomes dogs but sadly only open until 5pm. Lovely cakes and a range of good coffees. Well placed opposite Lead Mining museum and car park.

Popped in for an urgent glucose top up for hangry child. Service very friendly. Lovely latte and tea. Very comfortable seats. The real winner was the chocolate brownie which they warmed up. Gorgeous.

Not the biggest cafe, nor the menu particularly extensive. What you do get however is a very clean, comfortable cafe with friendly service.

Stopped by for lunch with the family and fell in love with their Club Sandwich. I love a good Club Sandwich and this was up there. A good sized plate of food, good value and really good bacon in it.

Just had lunch with my husband and 2 children, lovely place and food was delicious. It can be hard sometimes to find a place for a good sandwich! My kids loved the milkshakes!

We were visiting Matlock Bath on one cold January morning. We like walking along the esplanade of shop and over the bridge. We thoroughly enjoyed our stroll when we cam across this Cafe. We were greeted warmly, friendly staff, lovely ambiance and above all a warming coffee whilst we were watching the world go by.

Went to M & A Cafe for a latte and a slice of cake, was not disappointed. Cheap, friendly, excellent service and great food ..... enough said xx

Went out for the day to Matlock Bath and found this lovely little cafe. The highchair for our son was lovely and clean. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The service was good and the interior was very nice.

We came looking for a cafe that apparently closed and stumbled upon this cafe by accident. The service was welcoming and the prices were good. A must when visiting Matlock.

Never written a review before but really felt the need to. We had a quick visit into Matlock while staying close by to head on the Santa train Christmas Eve. I wanted to find a sandwich for my daughter while the rest of the clan had fish & chips. Turns out I hit the jackpot! M & A cafe is what Matlock has been missing. The prices are extremely afforable and the atmosphere very welcoming. We are big coffee drinkers and it's the best I've ever had! We keep joking about returning just for a coffee - if only we were just around the corner! I shared a piece of coffee cake with my mum (& daughter!) Which was so good! The rest of the family came to meet us after their lunch & ended up staying for coffee and cake too. Really gutted we didn't find you sooner. We'll be returning just to visit here.

We visit Matlock Bath regularly and it was nice to find a really good cafe instead of fish and chips! VERY dog friendly, lovely atmosphere, fabulous food with lots of choice and fair prices. Clean and cosy. A great addition!

First time in a long time, to be served an americano coffee that wasn’t bitter or served in an excessively large XXL cup or mug. I would definitely recommend this attractively decorated cafe.

We visit Matlock as a wider family regularly but first time visitors to M + A. There were 14 of us who wanted coffee and cake after a lovely late Sunday afternoon walk. I was very impressed. The environment is classy yet inviting and spotlessly clean. The service and welcome was exceptional and the coffee, milkshakes and handmade cakes WOW! We visit many coffee houses but these guys have got it spot on. Go and visit you won't be disappointed

Welcoming exterior, gorgeous interior and excellent coffee. We only stayed for a quick drink but we were very impressed and will definitely return when we're next in Matlock Bath. I would love to know where the colourful snd comfy chairs are from so I can buy them for home!

A day trip visit to this lovely cafe. Staff very friendly and helpful. Dogs allowed which i s important to us. Good varied menu but the homemade cakes are just awesome. A very clean,friendly and inexpensive place to take rest for refreshments and would thoroughly recommend.

Called into this little gem during our visit to the illuminations. Staff really welcoming and Decor is beautiful. Thought prices were very reasonable. Owner even switched the window lights out and turned the music off so we could get full effect of the fireworks. Will definitely visit again.

We were drawn into this cafe from seeing wonderful cakes through the windows, and they didn't disappoint. The coffee cake was absolutely delicious. We went back today for more cake, but lunch too, which was equally delicious. Service very good and personal too. Thank you.

We ate her during our short visit to Matlock Bath in October. The food was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. The food was fresh and the coffee was great. Would highly recommend.

Very pleasant with great service. The food was very good. Fresh and very well presented and with a broad selection of sandwiches, jackets and baguettes. Granddaughter loved the white chocolate Rocky road. Will definitely be back.

The best coffee I've had in a long time - I like fairly strong coffee and opted for a small, one shot, flat white which was plenty strong enough and very smooth. My partner had a one shot Cappuccino which he described as "proper coffee" .... you can opt for additional shots if required. We had OVEN BAKED jacket potatoes, salad and home made coleslaw .... delicious and very reasonably priced! The Cafe is licensed too! The owners/staff are really friendly and helpful. Love the decor too! Will definitely visit again soooon!!!

Two of us popped in for lunch late one Saturday after reading the reviews on here but we experienced a few niggles. I wasn't impressed that the menu on the wall advertises soup and quiche (with prices) but they don't serve either; then I wanted sparkling water which they don't stock so I asked for a macchiato (granted, it's not on the menu but they serve espresso) and the lady said she had no idea what it was but didn't offer to make me one. It was only after we'd been waiting a while for our hot sandwiches that we were told there was a delay as there was only one person cooking that day. When they came, the waitress served us in complete silence which was bizarre. Fortunately the sandwiches were quite good - I had the bacon, mushroom and cheese and my husband had the steak and cheese. Lovely interior.

Amazing, the milkshakes were delicious however very filling. I suggest Oreo milkshake. Service is very polite and friendly.

This is a must place to visit very friendly staff and service ,this cafe is reasonably priced and great food will be visiting again soon

We walked in and had some drinks and the children had ice cream. It is a friendly welcoming place. Loved the Banksy paintings.

We are regular visitors to Matlock so when we saw a new cafe had opened ( the owners had only been opened 9 days) we decided to call in. The decor is very stylish and comfortable. Good selection on the menu & very reasonably priced. We had pannis and my daughter had a slice of cake, all very nice. It's nice to see something other than chip shops along the front. It's definitely worth a visit.

Lovely clean friendly and relaxing cafe bar. Steak baguette was excellent and good quality pots of tea. If I wasn’t driving I would have had the prosecco lunch £25 for two. Highly recommend.

We often call in for a coffee in Matlock Bath, and decided to give this recently-opened café a go on our last visit. We were very favourably impressed. The décor was clean, fresh and relaxing, and we particularly liked the large Banksy pictures decorating the walls … and the modern brass chandeliers too. The floor and the tables were clean, and the chairs were both clean and comfortable.

Stumbled across this little gem earlier today. Open at 8am, perfect (nothing else open until 10am). Enthusiastic, professional and friendly couple, Matt and Alex, have just opened this lovely fusion coffee shop/cafè. Superb locally baked cakes, excellently priced AND dog friendly, complimentary dog biscuits. Wishing this lovely young couple all good luck for their business. Alison and Barry.

My wife,Grandaughter &baby; Great Grandchild on a recent visit to Matlock decided to stop for a coffeee .Not knowing the town we stopped in the first car park.This proved to be a very good choice as just across the road we saw a very nice looking cafe.Having a baby buggy we wondered if we could get in the door.The owner without being asked helped lift the buggy in.We had thought we would just have a drink but faced with a wonderful selection of cakes etc.could not resist.The cakes matched their looks in taste.The food &drinks; were excellent,service was equally good as were the prices.This combined with the decor & very friendly people made this a memorable visit.If ever we were in the area again or even near we would definitely visit the M&A;.

Sitting in a comfortable cosy corner,we drank excellent coffee ( and some members of our party are very fussy ) made to our requirement i.e. very hot, decaf etc.
