Lydia Cafe impressed me in every way! They have a wonderful selection of breakfast/brunch dishes to cater to every diet and taste. Would highly recommend the Vegan breakfast and vegetarian breakfast. All the dishes seem to have so many aspects and items to them that all complement each other and work together beautifully. Also great portion sizes! The staff in Lydia Cafe are particularly pleasant and welcoming. Wehave had great service every time. The prices in Lydia Cafe are so reasonable and budget friendly especially due to the location being in London and the high quality of food and service. I really believe Lydia Cafe is a hidden Gem in Stoke Newington. The shop front is not as fancy as other similar well rated and popular food places in the area which I believe is why not as many people go, but when you try the food inside you will be so impressed. I will visit Lydia Cafe every time I return to Stoke Newington and recommend it to everyone who is going there!

Was visiting from the U.S., and a friend took me here for lunch, she lives in the neighborhood. 1st time eating Turkish food, very warm, cozy atmosphere, very friendly owners, family owned is always a plus! Absolutely delicious food... 😮 Wow! There is this appetizer that is basically shredded zucchini that is to die for... I had the falafel, excellent as well. Very good sauces, bread, I don’t know the names of anything, but all of it was so good. I highly recommend... especially for tourists! Lots of flavors, reasonably priced. Will be back next time I’m in London. 😀

I normally go for the £9.95 meal deal - e.g. starter, followed by chicken kebab, rice, salad, bread and olives. There's also an excellent Turkish breakfast for about the same price with about a dozen little dishes - superb! The coffee is very good too.

The sign outside saying ‘2 cocktails for £10’ seems to be a ploy to get people in, when we asked the waitress, she didn’t seem to know what we were talking about then came back to say the deal wasn’t on because they didnt have enough spirits - cut to full bar. The board also so said ‘2 mains and a bottle of wine or prosecco’ without a price. When we asked about that she sort of said yes, you can order those and the price depends on what you order ....ok that also means nothing then. The tabbouleh was full of balsamic and stale olive oil. Meat quality and cooking was good but nothing special. The bill was wrong so I had to get it corrected. Would not go back, perhaps for a breakfast at a push if it looks really busy.

Loved the atmosphere and service at this little cafe. The food was good but not extraordinary. We tried the crushed avocado and poached egg, the healthy breakfast, and the burger and fries.

We came here for a family meal for a celebration. The restaurant was empty when we arrived and I cannot think why. The food was generous and delicious, the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and there was a lovely atmosphere in general. We were celebrating the fact we were getting married the next day, and when they found out they very sweetly played 'here comes the bride' and brought us a very delicious cake. We had a lovely experience eating there and the food was thoroughly enjoyable!

Went here late afternoon on a Thursday. There was a man and a woman standing by the till and the woman greeted us and showed us to a table near to the front. The man sat down and was talking in a foreign language with another man for nearly the whole time we were there. There were a couple of other tables occupied by people having alcoholic drinks. The menus we were given were mainly for wine. I found this strange as the place looks like it's for cakes and coffees or teas more than wine and there is a large display of cakes on the counter - but the menu didn't have anything listed at all for these. We were frozen cold and wanted nice hot drinks to warm us up. The menu had two only two coffees listed, one an expresso and the other cappuccino - both priced at £1.80. There was also milk at £1.80. My son chose a hot milk and I asked if they did a milky hot coffee and she said you mean latte and I said yes. We waited quite a long time and finally they arrived. My son's milk was medium hot and my latte was luke warm and disgusting. It didn't taste of coffee at all. The toilet - OMG, this was really disgusting. There was pee all over the floor when I went in and this was the only toilet. It wasn't clean anywhere else in there either. No one checked if our drinks were ok or not, the woman had disappeared so I couldn't ask for it to be warmed up and the men next to us kept giving us dirty looks. We felt extremely uncomfortable and despite still being cold, decided to leave. I only drank half of my drink as it was so bad. Finally the woman reappeared and I asked for the bill. £2.10 for each drink!!! So we were being overcharged as well. I paid, I left and would never, ever return.

My husband and I visited Lydia's to grab a breakfast. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was decent enough. The bacon was very good, the sausage was ok, and the yolk in the fried egg was a little too cooked through. I was particularly pleased that black pudding was on offer though, and it was very tasty.

Dropped in here on a Sunday afternoon for coffee and cake, only because the cake shop next door didn't have seating. The staff were attentive and the carrot cake was amazing, Because we'd found the staff to be so helpful we went back the next day for lunch with my elderly parents. Again they couldn't have been more helpful. The starters were enormous and really tasty, we had whitebait, calamari, avocado prawn and filo pastry with spinach and cheese. The salad accompanying each starter was tasty and the servings were generous. The mains were again more than generous and the kleftico was great. When we found we couldn't finish some of the meals they were more than happy to pack the remains for us to take home.

We visited here around lunchtime on a busy Sunday and were well catered for, given the small size of the cafe.We were pleased to see that they were still serving breaks till 2pm! I opted for the Turkish style breakfast called Menemen, which I've never tried before. I'm so glad I went for this instead of a 'safe' dish that I knew I would like. The breakfast was a mixture of eggs, tomatoes and Mediterranean vegetables and was a really simple, yet tasty dish. There is a really good variety so if you aren't into Mediterranean cuisine, then there are plenty of other dishes to choose from such as fajita's, pasta and burgers. They even gave us a huge slice of carrot cake on the house which was very generous and not a lot of places will do that these days.We ordered coffee's as well which were very generous with their sizes and the prices are really good here. This place is perfect for coffee's, cake, main meals and good food that doesn't break the bank.

Ordered a Chicken Fajita, which I have had in there before, when it turns up the normal sour cream and guacamole is missing - when requested, I'm told that the menu doesn't state it comes with it, therefore I'm not getting it! When I pay, the staff then try and charge me £8.95 when the menu says £6.95 - when I argue the cost, they tell me that despite the menu price being less, because the till says £8.95, I have got to pay £8.95.I argued that one out then complained of the lack of normal accompaniments, asked if it's a new chef, only to be told the chef is just being awkward (albeit they didn't put it so politely).Quite frankly I would never go there again given the choice, it's just disgraceful. Avoid like the plague would be my advice, nasty people, nasty service, just all round wrong. A right rip off.

I love coming to Lydia Cafe for a late lunch or afternoon break, it's become a regular stop for me now. It's quiet, comfy, nicely decorated, and despite the service being a bit slow at times, they make up in manners and attitude.I usually order stuffed vine leaves (good, and at a much better price than other neighbouring restaurants/cafe'), salad (there is a big variety, and all very tasty) and beer. I am not big on coffee, and prefer to have a beer break instead, and here at Lydia Cafe' I can enjoy a book, a beer and a bite without stress, in a comfy environment. There's a breakfast and lunch/dinner menu (prices rise from lunch to dinner), coffee and cakes (which I haven't tried yet, but to be honest they don't look great) served all day. Turkish-with-a-twist food is served all day, it's great value and tasty.

In quirky Church St Stoke Newington, home of retro chic, old books, wholefood supermarkets, clothes and vinyl! A village atmosphere in London N16. Good Turkish brasserie - £6.95 set lunch very good value, very tasty starters served with flatbread and carafe of water, excellent main courses. Pleasant service by an eager-to-please waitress (with limited English). NB that the annoying beeping electronic till did not totalise the bill properly, so do your own addition on a serviette.Recommended
