Lychee Oriental in Glasgow City

Wouldn't rush back. Food mediocre Had two course lunch but had better elsewhere. Salt and chillie chips (side order) appear to be just frozen french fries with some chilies sprinkled over them. Given the competition from other restaurants nearby, they need to up their game. Staff very good. Toilet facilities poor. One in restaurant and you need to access the other via lift.

Place was absolutely mobbed but we still managed to get a table and the staff were really lovely too. Great food, great staff and would definitely return.

We had a lovely gluten free dinner here last night! The service was quick, the food and orange wine was delicious! We had honey chili chicken, Hong Kong sweet and sour chicken, broccoli side and egg fried rice side. And it was the BEST gluten free Asian food I’ve had! If you’re gluten intolerant please give it a try :)

Mediocre which is sad. They have a separate gluten free menu which is great as my other half is gf and the staff are lovely, unfortunately the food was pretty standard I have to say and the service was slow. I had ordered a chicken katsu with jasmine rice, the rice was dry and overdone and the chicken was dry and chewy, i also ordered a starter of ribs In a sauce but they were very dry and chewy as well (almost tasteless)I had asked for some crackers for the food and never received them as staff forgot and we had ordered another drink as we started eating but that came after we had finished eating. Not the best unfortunately but worth going once. Especially if you’re gluten free.

I'm going to keep this very short and sweet, visiting from Ireland and like other reviews felt rushed, asked by several staff for mains order when had just ordered starters..and said we wanted to wait.......we were eating quite late so decided to share a main with rice and chips, I'm not sure how patronising the waitress was being(very!)but she made us feel cheap for sharing a main, even tho we ordered 3 starters and alcoholic beverages... not that I should have to explain myself... anyhooo....not a great experience and wouldn't recommend, portions on small side too.

We had booking for 2.30 the waitress seemed harassed and was rushing us, which then makes you feel uneasy Ordered our food off lunch menu and thats when it all went wrong. Salt n chilli wings were tepid, would have sent them back but hate doing that. The sweet and sour chicken was dry and overcooked and rice wasn't warm enough either....so disappointing. Hadn't been in lychee for over a year as my previous visit wasn't great either but ny friend wanted to try it.......will stick to my favourite china blue in future.

Best Chinese I have ever had!! Great atmosphere, service and the food was fantastic. The satay sauce, chicken in green pepper and black bean sauce and the noodles deserve a special mention but everything was beautiful. Thank you

Heavily salted on my starter, inedible. Restaurant did remove from my bill however. Also, my main of crispy chilli honey chicken was very bland. I actually prefer my local Chinese takeaway

Had lunch at the Lychee on Friday with 2 friends. I was a bit apprehensive after reading some recent reviews but needn't have worried as the food was tasty and portions were a good size. I had Katsu curry and friends had chicken curry and chicken with noodles and we all enjoyed our meals. The restaurant was very busy but service was quick, but not rushed. I would definitely return and would recommend.

Staff were constantly harassing us to take order, we were asked 8 times within 2 mins of being seated we hadn’t even been able to read menu. Tables are far too close I could barely get into my seat and neither I nor the woman at next table were big. The next table even told us what not to order (doesn’t bode well) they said curry was like soup so watery. Food was mediocre to say the least won’t be back and definitely won’t recommend

We were looking forward to visiting, however our meal wasn’t brilliant. It was £3.50 for about six prawn crackers (seriously) - this is crazy, they cost very little and could be served as a much bigger portion that wouldn’t start diners off feeling somewhat ripped off. The rest of the food was fine though bland. There’s far better Chinese restaurants around the Glasgow area. On the plus points, the service was excellent and the surroundings stylish.

Staying overnight in Glasgow and wanted a nice Chinese to finish the holiday off. Menu looked good and website etc. Very disappointing. Poor lighting, tables too close. Although waiting staff were lovely and very welcoming it was very rushed and noisy. Not the relaxed experience we were looking for. Sent one meal back for being over salty ,this was taken off the bill, the other was ok , but at £23.50 not value for money. Sadly won’t be visiting again.

This was a very busy spot when we arrived. Tables are jammed in together, it felt like we were sitting at the end of one long table there was so little space between them. The staff were rushing around and obviously busy but this also made them inattentive. I had asked for noodles with my main course but got rice and it was so hard to get anyone's attention that I gave up trying and so just had the rice. It's great to see a restaurant have a busy trade but in this case, the atmosphere suffers for it.

First time in the lychee. Went for a family meal tonight for 15 people (Christmas Eve). Food was amazing probably the best Chinese/oriental meal I have had. Staff were great new who had ordered what when delivered to the table. Will definitely be back. Service great food even better.

We love Lychee Oriental and have been many times however last night was mos disappointing. We always get the beef with asparagus and chilli. It’s our favourite. Last night what was served to us was totally different. Instead of the usual spicy sticky sauce the beef was floating in a bland gravy. It was really below standard. Not quite sure what happened.

Food amazing. Slightly expensive for portion size but good quality. Atmosphere in restaurant absolutely buzzing and vibrant BUT the service was so poor. They informed us that we only had 90 minutes on the table. It was so rushed. They wanted us to eat and hurry up and leave. So stressed by the service. Throwing food down our throats. Waitresses literally sweating, panting and arguing amongst themselves, trying to run around at 100mph. Some of our diners hadn't finished and their plates lifted away. Very stressed environment. We were told we didn't have time for desserts and coffee despite spending close to £300 on starters, mains and drinks. When we asked for more drinks, desserts, coffees etc, we were reminded several times we only had so much time, almost like we were being counted down to leave. We booked two months in advance and were not informed at the time that we only had the table for 90 minutes. Given the cost of the night, we'd expect a completely different experience. Unfortunately this was far from the relaxed dinner that we were looking for. Such a shame as the food is great but having to rush it down our throats, and feeling pressured, makes it unlikely we'll return.

Rushed service and mediocre food. Visited with a group of work colleagues and were rushed through our meal and hassled away from the table as they have a 90 minute time limit! Most places have 2 hours which is adequate but Lychee is clearly trying to squeeze in as much as possible (understandable) but to the detriment of quality and service. Plates were thrust at us and some taken away while others still eating. Staff were racing around and banging into chairs. Can’t be a pleasant experience for them either. Food wasn’t great and portion sizes tiny presumable so diners don’t take too long to eat!

The food was lovely but we had problems when our bill came. There were 5 adults and we ate from the Christmas lunch menu. The £20 deposit I paid in advance had not been taken off our bill and we were also overcharged £4 for a more expensive bottle of wine than the one we ordered. It took approx half an hour for the staff to sort out the overcharging issue on our bill which involved the manager being contacted and eventually coming to speak to us. It was a disgrace to be asked to show evidence that I had paid the £20 deposit and also for the restaurant to try and overcharge us for a bottle of more expensive wine. I’ve eaten in this restaurant several times over the years and recommended it to friends and family. This experience has left a negative experience of Lychee Oriental so I will think twice about returning or recommending it to anyone. All I can say to anyone eating there is CHECK YOUR BILL.

Nice restaurant, good food, a little more expensive but with visiting.

I'd booked a table for 4 here over a month in advance of my friends 60th birthday. When we arrived our table was beside the door which was constantly being held open with a queue of people waiting to be seated. As it was a cold November night this meant we were freezing and our food got cold quickly. We asked to move but staff said there were no free tables. If we had been seated in a different area I think our experience would have been more enjoyable. The food was good when it was warm. After we'd settled the bill the waitress brought the birthday boy out a slice of cake which was a nice touch.

Couldn't fault the place at all, food service and atmosphere were all amazing. The staff really takes care of you and your needs. They were amazing.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat for lunch with my wife. I had a beef dish, my wife had the chicken curry. Unfortunately she has been ill for the past week and the only thing she has eaten differently from me was in this restaurant. I can’t say for sure but in hindsight did say she thought there was a funny taste to it.

Booked a table for four over four weeks for last night at 7pm. We turned up just before 7pm. Waited 20 minutes to be seated (it was very busy and not a lot of space to stand whilst more people came in). We sat for 15mins with no menu and not even someone coming over asking if we needed a drink. We decided the service was awful so we told the staff it was shocking and left. Very very poor service. This was my first visit and won’t be back!

Wasn't impressed with this place. Food was delivered really quickly, and I feel they wanted you in, served, and back out the door. Not a lot of food on the plate, just as well I'm not a big eater.

Lychee is such a lovely place and everytime myself and my partner go in they all always greet us happily, such an amazing atmosphere and the staff I can't fault as you walk in they are always consistent in making your time enjoyable and always a high standard service. The food is amazing. We are quite regular in the lychee, so I would highly recommend for anyone wanting to try it.

Food A1, Service A1, plenty of food for what you pay, atmosphere personally felt a little strange (let me try and explain). The staff members, when finished doing what they were doing, (eg: taking a drink to a table) would then go and stand alone in a dark corner with covid masks on this did not affect service or anything in any way, myself and hubby noticed and just thought it was a little weird. It must work for them because can't fault service one bit.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Glasgow. Excellent theming alongside good food and unique cocktails. Service could have been a bit quicker but worth it for the food. Has a good mix of your stereotypical "British Chinese" food as well as some fancier dishes. Good value as paid around £70 total for 2 starters, 2 mains, a portion of fries, 2 alcoholic drinks, and 1 soft drink. Highly recommend the crispy pork belly with spicy black bean sauce.

I go here every time we are back visiting family in Glasgow and it never usually disappoints. This time the meal was excellent overall but the soft shell crab starter was not good at all.

Don't be fooled by the lane it's situated in. This is a lovely, mid-priced restaurant. It's pretty big and although I was part of a large party we were served promptly with everyone getting their food at the same time. Dark enough for date night but friendly enough for a family get together.
