Lussmanns in St Albans

Very enjoyable evening for my wife’s birthday many thanks

We have eaten at Lussman's before and were pleased to go back for a celebration meal for my husband's birthday. Given a nice corner table. The starters were good but the mains choices were a little disappointing for my husband. He would have chosen the steak but only 10oz was on offer which was too big even for his good appetite. I wish that they, along with other restaurants, would offer alternative portion sizes. In the end he plumped for the chicken fricasee and really enjoyed it. I chose the cauliflower fritters but found that a bit disappointing, with a pile of indistinguishable ingredients on the plate, including the deep fried leeks which were just dry strips (I suppose I should have expected that!) I can't eat things too dry and asked for some sauce. A red wine jus was duly delivered. The desserts were delicious. The service throughout was exceptionally good. Staff were welcoming, efficient and professional throughout, including when I became briefly unwell and had to take a break in the loo. (The food is absolutely not to blame. It is a digestive problem that flares up occasionally.) Anyway, they were extremely helpful and solicitous. On departure they were also very good about ordering and then chasing a taxi which somehow failed to appear, standing outside with us to be sure it finally arrived. So, full marks for service and ambience, even if the food choices were a little disappointing. We will be back!

Good Restaurants Attentive service, Good food

Took my mum out for a Mother’s Day celebration. Exceptional food and most importantly, service was superb from our lovely waitress Mariana. Lovely, friendly and an asset to your team. Already looking forward to bringing the rest of our family for our next visit! Top class thank you very much for a lovely evening :)

Interesting but not overly ambitious menu. Every dish hit its mark. Even the sides were fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned.

Love this place. The food is always amazing & the service is superb.

Another great dining experience at Lussmann's Harpenden. Attentive and pleasant service coupled to wonderful, tasty food. Still have a bit of a problem with the price of the Cava, as this is the only "non champagne" on the menu. Minor point though. The Shepherds Pie really needs to come off the Specials Board and onto the main menu, it is amazing.

Excellent dishes, good service and fair prices BUT the noise level during a midweek lunch at tbe far end of the restaurant made conversation between 5 of us on a round table almost impossible . I couldn't consider returning.

Lovely food and lovely friendly staff, very pleasant experience

Pleasant lunch - bit surprised to be charged 95p for a dash of soda water in my white wine and soda. Lunch menu good value. Got a bit chilly when heating turned off in our section but to be fair we were the last to leave - overall very relaxed and tasty lunch.

We are fans of Lussman’s having eaten at the Hitchin and St. Albans venues. A nice venue in Harpenden for a catch up with old friends. The food was very tasty and good value, and the service and ambience very pleasant.

Always a pleasure. I have never been disappointed.

The restaurant is attractive and the food is wonderful. I chose Lussmanns Harpenden having had a great meal at the St Albans branch /This was just as good. I'm particualrly drawn tot he sustainable seasonal menu.

After all my visits over the years have yet to find fault with booking, service, food or drink.

The food was average...service was quick but one of the male 'waiters' was brusque bordering rude, almost non verbal

Lovely food again. The special Shepherds Pie was superb. Only issue was the cost of a bottle of Prosecco, seemed high in comparison to other venues. Service was attentive and timely. Very enjoyable.

We went for lunch. Ate off the set menu. I had the fishcake and my husband had the steak. He said it was the best steak he had ever had.

Lunchtime meals and service were great. The fixed price menu included items with good size portions, unlike some restaurants that cut the size of their fixed price to the bone. I have eaten at Lussemans a number of times and never been dissapointed.

Usually great but , baked Alaska sponge ,hard. Started moving table away next to us before we had finished, and at 10pm Told we couldn't order coffee as the coffee machine was switched off?

Food was great. Wine was flowing. Bit on the pricey side for value. The staff are attentive. The ambience was great and that’s what made a difference.

Had the halibut, wife had the hake. Both excellent in taste and presentation. Big shout out to the Wilfred’s Spritz as a soft drink - like an Aperol without the hangover. Staff attentive and polite as always.

A busy service but we were not in a hurry. When a pudding is in a stemmed glass it needs a saucer to put the spoon on between mouthfuls. I had to rest mine on the table.

Reasonably straightforward menu but executed very well with fresh, quality ingredients. Informal atmosphere. May be a little pricey

Welcome to the restaurant was pleasant. Service was very good and efficient. The food was good quality and not too much as to be over facing. The server forgot we had ordered cheeseboard but was ok as we had eaten enough. This however was left on the bill. However, a person called immediately after we left to try and rectify the mistake and has credited us for next time we eat there at my request. The offer of a refund was made

Wonderful service and great food as usual. One of our favourite restaurants in harpenden.

We had fish and chips very good. berry cheese cake excellent Steak and frites Good (medium was a bit tough) frites were delicious. Excellent white house wine. Date and ginger pudding-outstanding

Despite being very busy our sevice was excellent the attention to my wife Gluten-free diet was as usual very good . The whole staff should be congratulated on the service given to us .

Main meal was lovely, but would of prefered some sort of sauce with the steak. Desert was nice too & would of liked the choice to have custard with the apple crumble.

Great food and service as always. I booked for a group of 6 friends, who travelled from Ireland, Scotland and the South of England. It was a collective gathering for our 60th Birthday’s, and they were raving about the Restaurant, and the attention they gave us with the birthday candles at pudding! I called them to say we would be late for the booked time, as travelling back from a day out in London, and they were accommodating. Thanks so much x

We quite often go early for the set menu and to date it has been very good food. We are happy with the earlier time as it allows restaurant to get in two bookings per table per night to help maximize their profits.But to suddenly change the menu to totally unappetizing food for us is very disappointing and now means we will not go back until the menu improves.

1st time and it was fabulous. From our welcome onwards. Will definitely be going back.

Had a wonderful meal at Lussmanns - everything about the meal was lovely and my wife and I immediately started thinking of who to invite on our next visit. Definitely recommend.

Opted for the lunch menu, 3 courses for £35. Starters and main (halibut) were excellent, dessert (trifle) less so. Overall, pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff, and parking easy.

Lovely dinner on NYE, the staff were very friendly, and the food was fantastic!

We had an early supper on New Yrs Eve . The 3 course menu was good value , the main course I chose was halibut which was delicious. The service is always exceptional ( attentive but not intrusive)

Eaten a number of times here and never been disappointed. Comfortable setting, staff work hard to please and the food is varied and well cooked and presented. Certainly not overpriced for Harpenden.

Love the ambience food and service always friendly. My only critique is that they regularly run out of sparkling water so I have not had any the last few times I have visited. I need management to stock up or at least check when it runs out and to re-stock.

Incredibly happy, went for anniversary, service was wonderful, prices were fair and the service was very lovely. Definitely going to go back!

Overall great - we've been to the St.Albans location a bunch of times and this was our first time in Harpenden - I would say we are far more likely to go back to Harpenden than St.Albans now. Simple parking, cosier with a nicer ambience. Generally great.

The restaurant was very dusty and my wine glass was inundated with dust. I appreciate that sounds like a weird comment but there it is. I found a hair in two of my three dishes. One of which was about 20cm long which turned me off my food a bit. we were directed to a specific seat which we didn’t like for various reasons. When we asked if we could have another table we were told no. Re actual meal …the wine was excellent and good value, one starter was very good, one was lukewarm, the mains were ok, the deserts were delicious. We really love Lussmans in Harpenden…hopefully this was a blip, as we normally have a 5 star experience.

At Lussmans Harpenden we always feel welcome and comfortable. The food was delicious, the staff delightful, as always. My sister had the Halibut which she said was amazing. I was sorry to see that my favourite dish of roasted vegetable paella has come off the menu - please bring it back - it's my go to as its your best vegan/veggie option.

Food, as ever, was excellent. The only blot on the evening was that we were so relaxed that we didn't check our bill properly. It included a bottle of wine we didn't have but by the time we discovered this it was too late to go back. Moral, always check your bill.

Staff impeccable, friendly, attentive - perfect table service. Having eaten at the restaurant on several occasions, I found the food to be standard and not as competitively priced as other establishments the area.

I always love Lussmans. Food is great. Staff are helpful and friendly. It was a cold day but they did their best, using a thick curtain across the door, to keep us warm. Recommend this restaurant highly.

A Christmas celebration lunch with two granddaughters. Staff excellent, food very good . The only downside was the noise but the restaurant was very busy and it was the time of the year when noise is always a few decibels higher !! All in all very enjoyable .

We had a delicious meal. The service was brilliant and everyone was polite and friendly. It was great to see the restaurant so busy but it meant holding a conversation between 2 people was very hard. We declined to have coffee there because of this. Everything else was perfect so it wouldn't stop us returning.

Never disappoints and this visit was as good as it always it. Lovely environment, great service and a good value sustainability-focussed menu. Also good for dietary requirements.

Sat near stairs seemed bit chilly there. Enjoyed food, probably should have been advised how big mash portion is. Especially liked waitress checking for cousins garlic allergy

Lovely atmosphere, friendly greeting and very pleasant service. Food as usual was exceptional. We both had Halibut with a selection of interesting sides. Apple crumble with hazelnuts was divine. We weren’t rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Would recommend!

Excellent evening out with friends at a very nice restaurant with brilliant staff and great food.

Pork Snitzel delicious as was the roasted cauliflower with kale. The pumpkin soup delicious as was the Lamb Shoulder Christmas menu available but we didn’t have it.

This was our first visit to the inside of the Harpenden restaurant and enjoyed the Christmassy atmosphere, the great welcome, and the overall high quality of the food. The first courses were excellent - parsnip soup and prawn cocktail, but we felt the main course was slightly lacking. My lamb on the bone was dried out and I was expecting the meat to be moister. Couldn't fault the mash and jus, and the sprout tops side dish was a great idea, and now we know what to do with our tops. My partner's cauliflower fritters were soggy, not crisp as she was expecting. But the crispy cavolo nero was an interesting and tasty method of cooking this vegetable. All round an excellent night out with just a couple of caveats.
