It wasn't open due to being used as a Santa's grotto. The sign said you could get the menu in the other Holiday Inn restaurant but this is not the case. The stern stance from all included the Holiday Inn, the restaurant and Luigi's was definitely not customer focused. Shame on you all

Slow service. The food was good. But the whole experience was let down by the service. The restaurant seems to be run by the hotel staff. I'd suggest running the restaurant as an independent business.

Menu half the size of what it used to be and service very slow. Due to the lack of options on the menu we had to ask for the menu from the lounge to cover some dietary requirements on our table. I'm pleased to say that this was no issue, but we didn't like having to ask to do this. A menu should be varied enough to please everyone. Also disappointed to find that there were only 3 tables occupied whilst we were there and yet when we phoned to book we were limited to time slots due to availability! A table of 8 arrived just after us who had booked and yet the staff didn't seem to have any reference of their booking. Sad to say that what was once my favourite restaurant in Westhill, I'm not sure that I will go back.

Over several years we have been regular customers at Luigi’s. While it was never authentically Italian it was a pleasant restaurant with a reasonable menu. In the last few months it has been on a downhill slide. Our most recent visits have been disappointing, and our most recent visit was in part in hopes of seeing improvement, an improvement which so far shows no signs of arriving. The most recent visit evidenced the continued decline in the quality of the offering. The menu was much reduced compared to previously. I made the mistake of ordering the chicken Milanese. While the chicken was uninspired it was tolerable, the pasta however would not have been worse if it had come out of a tin.The restaurant experience was rather run down, with only one waiter on duty, though he coped well and was friendly. In the past Luigi’s had an “up market” feel, somewhere in Westhill to go for a special occasion. Now it feels it feels it has fallen on hard times and on the verge of closure. When we passed the hotel this weekend we noticed Luigi’s was closed. This was a Saturday evening, so it should have been a busy evening. We asked at reception who said there was a function that evening. We could see there was something on in the function room. Are there now insufficient staff to run the restaurant when they have a function? While I would not say I will never return, it will only be after an interval, and then only to find out if there has been some improvement.

We were extremely disappointed with our meal at Luigis, westhill! The ambience was dreadful, the food was shocking (dry chicken, chewy stake, microwaved salmon, pizza was raw & doughy) the service was so slow, waited 20 mins for a menu! & to top it all off, they began setting up the tables for breakfast the next day & it was only 9pm. (not discreetly either, lights were put on) Despite the slow service we were then rushed towards the end of our meal as we were the last group of people there. Throughout the whole meal we were one of 3 groups of people, place was dead! Now I understand why! A man who looked to be the Manager was so rude, rolling eyes, Tutting, acting very immature! So disappointed, will not be back! & reccomened to anyone to stay away, I can cook you up a better meal!

Next I ordered Char grilled Salmon with Pesto crust and Tender stem broccoli, Rosemary and Garlic pots. To be fair the salmon was perfect but it arrived on spinach and roasted red pepper. No sign of Broccoli and the pots were hard barely cooked flavourless lumps. It could have been very good if a little more effort was put in.

Very busy lounge bar on Christmas Eve. Well decorated (seasonal) and great atmosphere. Young, smartly-uniformed bar staff worked very hard, but were friendly & attentive, despite being under pressure. The hotel is in Westhill, a few miles west of Aberdeen. It is convenient for local shopping only a short walk from the hotel. There is also a small retail park a very short drive away, with a Tesco supermarket, a Costco store and a petrol station. Westhill Sports Centre is a short walk from the hotel and Westhill Golf Club is a very short drive away. (Private club, visitors welcome.) The hotel is also convenient for the Arnhall, Silvertrees and Westhill Business/Commercial Parks. There is ample, free, off-street parking. The Kingswells Park & Ride is 3 miles away, for bus access to Aberdeen.

Had dinner here last night with colleagues. I've been here a number of times over the last few years and have been consistently impressed. Nice ambience, unobtrusive service and consistent quality. Last night we shared a selection of appetisers - smoked mussels (best of the crop), bread and oils, olives and shredded onions. I opted for the special for my main - Parmesan ravioli in a smoked haddock cream. Delicious - perfectly cooked ravioli, creamy sauce with depth of flavour and a generous portion. I don't think it was Parmesan in the ravioli, more like ricotta, but tasty nonetheless.

Read Tam Cowan's report in the Sunday Sun...28/30 and in 4th place. It sounded good and as I only live 3 miles from the restaurant we hopped on the bus for the short journey. Emailed our booking 'romantic table for two' and low and behold that is what we got. Very friendly service and a lovely bit of banter with the waiter/manager (I think). The service was quick, smart and efficient. The house wine 14% shiraz/merlot was £17 and a very pleasant wine indeed. The toilets, décor and furnishings were excellent. The food was beautifully presented and the many choices were all competitively priced. I am not a huge fish fan but the makarel on a beetroot and rice risotto was out of this world. We were very happy with everything about the restaurant and will certainly be returning. First time visiting this establishment and unfortunately the last.Just so average it falls into the typical oilfield-driven restaurant of which there are so many in Aberdeen and its surrounds.Interior is quite nice and it is comfortable but on this Monday night (this week) it was almost empty. There was nothing to get enthusiastic about with the food and we actually had a bit of a laugh with the waiter when the special soup was announced as Cullen Skink. Not exactly an Italian delicacy plus it was so watery that my guest struggled with it.He also really struggled with the pizza he ordered which looked as if it had curled up and died. A valiant effort was made to eat it but it was too dry and unexciting to finish. He was too nice to say it was awful and ended up with the remains in a doggy bag!!My seafood linguine was just a large lump of linguine with a few (OK) prawns and some hideously overcooked mussels and the like. We both admitted we could have done better ourselves. That is the really annoying bit.We will revert to our usual haunts - Paldinos or Borsalinos or even the Fourmile Inn.

Hoped it was the start of a great meal. Waited around 30 minutes for our main courses which were average. Lasagne was almost burnt and pasta was completely overcooked. Just not the standard we expected. However the pork fillet was great. The supervisor took the lasagne off the meal and tried to tell us it was extremely busy. Well with over 15 years hospitality background, this was not a busy restaurant considering it was only half open. Waited so long for the bill and card machine again. Not for the first time a group of us chose to celebrate at Luigi'sAs usual there was a good choice and as there were 20 in our party we booked and more importantly pre-ordered in advance. All the courses were served efficiently by the waiting staff but it soon became apparent that several of the dishes were cold or certainly less than hot on their arrival at the table. My own Scampi & Chips were both delicious and piping hot but alas the peas were barely luke warm. I always assumed that hot orders should be served on plates that are so hot, the staff need to use napkins to hold them, but this last night was not the case with most plates being stone cold. At part of such a prestigious hotel chain the above lack of attention to detail in Luigi's was very disappointing. My initial thoughts were that on the evening the chef was possibly absent, but if he wasn't then he should soon - complete with he P45. The serving staff should have also been aware of this lack of attention to detail and made a member of the hotel management aware of the issue. This poor standard needs to be addressed and quickly.

Over the years we have dined here and it is a shame to see it get worse and worse. The time before this we decided to stop going, however son and daughter-in-law suggested we give it another go. Well, the same problems remain. Service is extremely poor, and at one point we could not see anyone eating! Guy in suit came over and apologised for the delay (by the way...it is 8pm on a Saturday night) and we heard him say the same to other tables. Food, when it finally came, was poor. My salmon was massively overcooked, wife's veal covered in oil/fat, daughter-in-law's chicken small and son's liver looked overcooked. We decided not to stay for dessert or coffee in case we risked still being there when breakfast started. I agree with other comments that this place thinks it has a captive audience in Westhill, and why should it bother. I am sure that it is happy to have the rooms filled with oil industry workers who simply drift downstairs at night to eat here. By the way...fillet steak is £33, plus the sides! If the kitchen can't turn out our meals properly I would not risk paying for a fillet steak.

Chosen for its local aspect and menu choice, the visit was to celebrate my daughters 21st with family and friends. Despite booking in advance to ensure we could cater for the occasion, a disabled person and an elderly person, the arrangements fell flat from the start as did the table decorations. The food was rather lack-lustre, slow and service indecisive. The end of the meal resulted in three of the party suffering 'tummy troubles' and NOT alcohol related. Address was requested after a complaint was written to the hotel, however this was met with a dismissive apology that was far from sincere nor accepting of any complaint. Unfortunately, similar poor service and unsatisfactory food in the hotel's sister restaurant the Glentanar, have discouraged us from further visits. I will however give due credit to the restaurant manager at the Glentanar for not charging for a returned starter and applying a discretionary 25% further discount for a protracted and unsatisfactory visit. It is unfortunate, as the area is affluent and the local position should save travelling 10 miles into the city. Captive markets can soon become unforgiving. Let's hope that this has just been bad luck..twice!!

Friends and colleagues chose to meet and enjoy our Saturday evening meal together, especially as our co ordinator was celebrating his 50th birthday. We had pre booked a table for the 12 of us - we sat down ordered drinks and our meal choices. The staff were very efficient and attentive, the food was tasty and imaginatively presented. The `Set price for two courses` suited most of us down to the ground...others went for three courses! We enjoyed the occasion & evening as a whole.Great choice of venue!

Had a mid week meal at Luigis and were really impressed. We hadn't been there for a while and were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the food...quality and presentation. The monk fish with saffron and vegetable risotto was delicious, as was the orange tart with dark chocolate sobet. The decor and atmosphere in a hotel restaurant is never going to be as good as other restaurants, but Luigis makes the best of the space they have with comfortable seating and well spaced tables.nournwaiter, Andrew was really pleasant and served us well.

Dinned here on my own (business trip). Wanted an early quick meal as I was visiting relatives later.Warmly welcomed an shown to a nice table. Waiter took my drinks order and brought it quickly while a looked through an interesting menu. There were only 4 table filled and the young waiter was attending to all of them while 3 of his colleagues stood and chatted an made jokes.I made my meal selection and laid down my menu and watched these 3 members of staff, it was obvious that they had noted that I was waiting for service but they were trying very hard not to catch my eye.Eventually the original waited took my order and soon after my started arrived. Just as one of the 3 skivers decided to offer me bread and olive oil while I waited for my meal to arrive. The food itself (both starter and main) was excellent in a nicely laid out restaurant with a far atmosphere. However when the are charging £30.00 for 2 courses (not the dearest) and a soft dring they need to work on their people skills. I handed in a comments sheet I wonder if I will get a call, I won't hold my breath.

We dined, last night, in Luigi’s “Italian” restaurant in the Holiday Inn, Westhill. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, is well designed, light, airy and comfortable. Staff were friendly and polite. But, service was slow and not proactive. Long delay between first and main course, and further delay waiting on side orders. Also, a request to substitute Penne Pasta instead of spaghetti with my main course bolognaise (which has not been a problem in other restaurants, “Italian” or otherwise) was not followed-up. The concept of having parmesan cheese over the Spaghetti Bolognaise was not something our server seemed aware of. I had to call him back, and ask specifically for it, and then wait while he went to find it. Similarly, I had to request Olive Oil, and was given Rapeseed Oil, “because it was all they had!?” Our first courses were tasty and raised expectations for our main course, but we were then disappointed. The Bolognaise was, at best, average, and my Wife’s chicken meal was nothing that would entice us back. So, although presented as an “Italian” restaurant, it is something of a masquerade, and really appears to be just an ordinary Hotel restaurant. So, for a genuine Italian meal in Westhill, I shall instead go to Mama Mia’s

Went this weekend with the Mrs having been before. Drinks took forever and that set the tone. Ordered the special which was a small fish dish. Just not blown away with it at £20. This dish came with asparagus which was well burnt and this was pointed out to the waiter. (We did have a go at because we were hungry). Chefs apology arrived soon after. I could go on but the general feeling of a manic short handed team probably sums it up. In fairness, the staff were decent but I won't be rushing back. I have the feeling that this establishment knows full well that there is a large customer base in the area who will provide an almost guaranteed footfall. Buck up and don't take people for granted.

The red carpet was just being rolled up as we arrived at the Westhill Holiday Inn – the last of the evening guests for a wedding at the hotel had arrived, and a piper was tuning up in the foyer. The hotel and car park were clearly busy, and Luigi’s was about ¾ full. We’d booked out table and it turned out to be a large table for the four of us in a quiet corner of the restaurant. I really do welcome the way Luigi’s don’t pack in more diners by placing the tables far too close together, (as many other places do. We want to hear our own conversation only, not the chat from adjacent tables). We ordered out drinks and studied the menu – I think there is a fantastic range of Italian food on offer here. It’s very hard to choose, as almost everything tempts me.Our drinks arrived with a choice of lovely breads, served with a selection of four different olive oils, but I asked for butter. Have never got into the bread and olive oil thing, not even in Italy! The guys ordered a bottle of the Chianti at £19.50. I had just a few mouthfuls, as I was the driver, but it was an excellent wine. We ladies passed on the starters, but the men folk chose Antipasti Luigi’s at £6.75 and Frito Misto di Mare at £6.50 as starters. Both looked good, but the Antipasti was deemed the better deal by the Frito Misto eater. My husband chose an Italian Casserole, the other gentleman the Duck dish, (neither of which are options on the currently displayed online menu, so can’t give prices), and both us ladies chose the Buttered Monkfish and King Prawn Kebabs on a bed of Saffron & Vegetable Risotto at £16.95. The casserole was deemed a little disappointing, but we adored our Monkfish & Prawn dish, and the duck was good.As big fans of veal, my husband and I had arrived for our dinner with that in mind, so we were a little disappointed to find not one veal dish on the menu. Having said that we found on a recent 8 day holiday in Italy that pork seems almost to have replaced veal nowadays. For desserts we had a Sicilian Lemon Tart, a Trio of Ice Cream and Sorbet served with a coulis in a shot glass at £4.95 each, a Trio of Desserts, which comprised a tiny Sticky Toffee Pudding, a small slice of Lemon Tart and a shot glass of Creme Brulee at about £5.95, and the platter of Italian Table Cheeses at £6.95. All were very much enjoyed. We had asked for water early on after we arrived, and had to ask again a second time, so it subsequently arrived after we’d finished eating, but I certainly wanted it even then, but should have been remembered far earlier in our meal. We finished with two double espressos and a peppermint tea. With a Spree Voucher valued at £13.95 off the meal, our bill came to £110 for four, which included another red wine, a beer and three soft drinks too. The service was okay to begin with, then very slow for a good part of our meal, and then we seemed to be inundated with enthusiastic waiters and waitresses near the end of our evening – possible as we had a satisfaction questionnaire to complete! We accepted the delays as the four of us were catching up on about 3 months of news and chatting a lot, but our friends pointed out that if there were just the two of you eating, the delays and slow service might seem far longer, and far less acceptable. My only other minor gripe with the hotel is that the female toilets for diners are shared with party-goers as they are right beside the function suite. On arrival at the hotel, I found it almost impossible to access the loos as a reception table with champagne was set up for the wedding right outside the door to the ladies, and dozens of guests were milling around there in all their ‘special occasion’ finery, while I was in a lambswool jumper, trousers, boots and outdoor coat! Not only a clash of dress, but they were all commandeering the area to form themselves into some kind of guest procession for entering the function room along with the piper, and seemed reluctant to move aside to let me past. I wish there was another toilet for dinner guests, as I’ve encountered this same issue before.
