Lucano in Orkney Islands

The most gorgeous Italian food I've ever eaten. Fantastic service and a comprehensive menu. Highly recommended

Left a bit hungry and disappointed. No locals in but a few tourists. I couldn’t believe how expensive the food was considering the size of the portions and compared to other local restaurants! After a starter and a main which were fine enough I left hungry. I could have had a dessert to fill me up but after nearly £40 already I couldn’t risk it! The food was ok with calamari which was good but salads come with no dressing, 6 scallops turned out to be tiny little ones served with a few veg and wedges. I would have liked an accurate description of what I was ordering and more food for the money paid.

Walked in without a booking. What a lovely place, nice atmosphere, great staff. The food was good and a reasonable price. If you are in Kirkwall give it a go.

We went with a party of 7 at 8pm on a Friday. I had the spaghetti al puttanesca and my friend had the spinach and formaggio bake. Other members of our party had various meat and vegetarian dishes. We unanimously agreed that the food was absolutely outstanding. I haven't tasted restaurant food this good for a long time. It was nice to see two options on many of the main meals; for a full size dish at around £12 - £16 and a smaller portion (which was plenty for me) priced at around £10 - £12. This is a hidden gem of Orkney - it's just a couple of minutes walk from St Magnus cathedral in the opposite direction to the main tourist trail. Don't leave the island without making a visit. Special mention to our lovely waiter who did such an excellent job.

Walked in and found a friend from our son’s school days in Edinburgh . Our friends had found the restaurant , we couldn’t believe it. Fantastic food, fabulous staff such a warm atmosphere. Thank you Francisco you made my holiday 🥰

Early midweek dinner. Disappointed that there were no fresh mussels (due in on Thursday) but coudn't fault the quality of the food - pasta with seafood, pizza con carne and tarte della nonno were particular favourites. Three courses for two people with a couple of glasses of wine was £100 which is a bit on the high side but I would go back.

A great Italian restaurant with excellent food and friendly service. We both had pizza which was delicious and freshly cooked (perhaps the base was homemade too?). But lots of other Italian dishes to choose from (I noticed some good-looking pasta dishes and some handsome salads on other tables. Friendly annd efficient service too. A must if you're looking for somewhere to eat in Kirkwall

Lovely pizzeria with the Italian founder still clearly in charge. A nice change from the traditional fare available elsewhere on the Orkneys. Friendly service and hot, tasty food at good value.

We were excited to stop in Lucanos for lunch while in town. We ordered simple lunch with a toastie and soup of the day, which I believe was vegetable, but was told.it was a minestrone. The food was hot, but very bland. No flavor. Nothing exciting and I could make a better sandwich at home. Wish we would have ordered pizza bc they looked good! Atmosphere is plain but very clean...spotless. Service was ok. Very friendly.

We booked the day before as this small restaurant does get busy. The Italian owner is friendly and always on the go, waiting staff are young and helpful, food was delicious and they also do a half portion main, which I liked, left room for dessert. If I was in kirkwall again, I would return.

We looked at few places before deciding to go Lucano as its prices looked most reasonable. We went early on a Tuesday and it whilst it was quiet when we arrived it quickly filled up. We ordered a pasta dish of linguine, scallops and salmon and a pizza. Both were very tasty and decent sized portions. Afterwards, we had profiteroles and cheesecake. The cheesecake was possibly the biggest portion of cheesecake I've ever seen but very light so easy to eat. We could see the staff were fairly new, young and inexperienced but they all did a great job on what looked like a pretty busy night. We would definitely visit again
