Lu Shan in Isle of Wight

Had a takeaway and it was excellent! The order was taken and cooked quickly and the food delicious. Highly recommend for takeaway and can’t wait to go back and have a sit down meal on our next visit to the island 😊

Was visiting family and decided to grab something small as we weren’t that hungry. 1 fried rice, 1 plain chow mein, 2 curry sauce £19.50!!…..£19.50!!! £10 more than I pay at home and very salty. Couldn’t eat it. For that money I would have expected the best mini Chinese I’ve ever ordered! Suffice to say, I’ll not be a return customer.

Outstanding take away for 5 of us. 5 very happy people! This is our favourite Chinese takeaway, not just on the Island, but anywhere and we try and always have a meal or takeaway here when over. Great service too, all carefully packed and hot.

Ready on time. Friendly Staff and good food. Chicken Fried Rice Kung Po King Prawns 1/2 portion Chicken Balls in batter Egg fried rice Mixed Vegetable chow mein chips

The ribs were all fatty and chewy for 10 pounds for that dish was extremely disappointed, the chicken was not good only thing was nice was egg fried rice shame

We had a lovely meal in the restaurant great food and customer service, loads of food very tasty and anything we could finished was packed up for us to take home.

I ordered a Singapore chow mein takeaway. It was very bland and overpriced. It was basically just a plate of noodles with very little meat.

We had a really lovely dinner here whilst on holiday in Bembridge. We didn’t have one of the banquets. We did the special starters platter. We then had the crispy duck which came with plenty of pancakes and the usual trimmings. I think the hoisin sauce must have been homemade as it had a bit of a kick to it. We then had Yung chow fried rice which had plenty of chicken and prawns in it with a chicken cashew nut and king prawn balls with sweet and sour prawns. The prawns were massive and the batter was beautifully crispy and there was plenty of chicken in the chicken cashew nut. This was by far the best Chinese meal we’ve had in a long time if not ever. The staff were very friendly and efficient service. Unfortunately there weren’t any desserts but we really enjoyed our meal. It’s just a pity that it isn’t near where we live.

Unfortunately this was you worst Chinese takeaway I've ever had in my life!! We ordered pancake rolls that were just white cabbage in the pastry and the chicken Chow mein was so dry you could virtually snap the noodles!!! But to be fair, the crispy chilli beef and the sweet and sour chicken balls were fine.

Lu Shan Chinese takeaway on the Isle of Wight exceeded expectations! The duck chow mein and crispy duck were divine, not greasy at all. A flavourful, satisfying experience. Will definitely return for more!

We were staying locally in Bembridge and fancied a Chinese, quick search and came across this little gem. Ordered over the phone and collected 20 minutes later. Staff were lovely and helpful. Food was delicious - mini spring rolls, special fried rice, chicken curry and chow mein all went down a treat. Just a shame they don’t deliver but was only a 5 minute drive.

Wouldn’t recommend as a place to sit in and eat- phones constantly ringing, and people in and out the door picking up take aways! No music or atmosphere just hearing orders being shouted out from the kitchen. Food wasn’t great either, pork ribs were done in some kind of gravy nothing like a bbq sauce- rest of the food was bland! Having to add salt to a curry is just unheard of. On a plus the staff out the front were friendly enough. My advice would be if you want an average take away then go for it but don’t bother dining inside it’s double the price and really not worth it.

Ordered a take away from Lu Shan on a Monday when every other restaurant nearby was closed. Polite and friendly staff took the order, food was ready in 30 minutes and was good quality and tasty. Plenty to go round four hungry people.

Very friendly staff, we sat in as a family and had a lovely meal. The Chinese style sweet and sour chicken in particular was delicious. Thank you for a lovely meal and wonderful hospitality.

This is my go to for Chinese takeaway in Bembridge and is always well received by my family. If only they had a delivery driver I would use them even more often.

Whilst on holiday in the area, we fancied a night in with a takeaway. This place was local so we gave it a try. Fairly expensive but for me, the house special curry was watery and bland. In fact, the curry sauce in the local fish and chip shop was better in term of viscosity and flavour. Would I go back, thats a definite no.

We were staying in Bembridge and fancied a takeaway. After reviewing a few we settled on Lu Shan. The staff were very efficient, ready to collect when we were told and price was pretty standard. Good portion sizes and all hot. On criticism is that it wasn’t overly tasty. It was nice but really lacked some of the intensity of flavour and dare I say it, saltiness, that you would ordinarily expect with Chinese cuisine! Otherwise all round it was ok!

Not the best but the food was adequate. More expensive than our usual but we were on holiday. Not as bad as some reviews make out. The chow mein was made with vermicelli noodles not normal egg noodles though.

The staff are virtually children, resulting in too many mistakes being made (not only for ourselves, but other customers too; we could overhear the complaints). This is a shame, the the food was actually quite nice.

Our first night on the Isle of wight so took pot uck on the Lu Shan for a take away, and what a find it was, food was excellent and the lady who served us was lovely. The restaurant looked really nice and would definitely eat in next time.

Not as good as was expecting, over 9 pounds for house special frid rice, prawn toast was very dry and bad, better food at dragon pearl so much more meat and cheaper, not impressed at all, won't be going again

Perhaps I expect to much when I order food from a cafe or restaurant, all I want is good food, good service and value for money, is that really to much to ask???? Or is that just a want to far!! We have been coming...

This is the biggest rip off I have ever paid for in a Chinese restaurant. These prices are higher than London. The food is average to below average. My meal was not hot and not a lot of taste. No atmosphere. Apart from our group there wasn’t any one else in the restaurant. I am a local and will never go in there again. They have priced themselves out. Rip off !!!!

On a short break to the isle of weight, I have to say that this was the worst Chinese meal I have ever been served; it was definitely not freshly cooked.

Very tasty and reasonably priced Chinese. I found the server particularly polite and friendly. She deserved more of a tip, but my company that evening was a stingy Scrooge. Hence why leaving a review to express how much I appreciate the service she gave, in alternative methods to financially 🤗

Great Cantonese food! We ordered crispy skinned duck, Singapore noodles, beef with black bean sauce and peppers, roasted pork with ginger and spring onions, and chicken with mushrooms. Super tasty food. Only giving 4 stars for atmosphere because we were the only guests there on a weeknight in October.

We recently spent a fews days in the area on holiday and used the takeaway service. The food was very good. So nice we went twice.

An incident happened in this terrible restaurant and I want to let everyone knows about it. This very polite young teenager made a mistake and confused one order to the wrong table then this horrible Chinese women (I think the manager or the owner) came...

Enjoyed my food and servers were pleasant, young man working there made an honest mistake delivering food to wrong table….for that and apparently other reasons occupants of that table chose to leave, Heard lady who I believe to be owner ranting at young server shouting...

I read the poor reviews but thought I'd give them a try and boost their reviews if good. Unfortunately my food went into the bin. Never before have I had a chow mein so utterly tasteless. I'm sorry I couldn't help by giving a higher score but you really do need to listen to your customer's reviews and put things right. Just awful.

Lu Shan's food is excellent BUT when ordering take away, the menu available on line is clearly out of date so all the prices are wrong, a lot wrong!! We have ordered food from Lu Shan before on the telephone and then gone to collect...

We ordered about an hour in advance of when we wanted to pick up - pick up was then quick and food was delicious and hot when collected. Recommend the sharing platter and sweet and sour chicken balls - delicious!

Excellent take away, the food was some of the best I have eaten. a longer than usual wait, 35 minutes, but Heather was up front in letting me know, she was very helpful when I amended my order after it had been taken. Watch out...

Just picked a takeaway up, bland . Tasteless, warm. Prawn balls fried in old Oli, noodles really thin , bland. I haven't tried this restaurant in over two years as the last time was poor. I am local and will not be back.

My partner and I visited on a quiet Sunday evening and had the set meal for two. We regretted it as we didn’t feel like the extra charge to eat in was worth it (another set of customers asked to eat in when their food was ready and were refused and told that we had paid for eat in). Our experience eating in was mixed. They seemed unprepared and somewhat surprised that we wanted to eat in and I’m guessing they primarily get take away customers. The atmosphere wasn’t particularly great, but I have to mention that the waitress was incredible. Very attentive, very friendly and an absolute credit to their business. I can’t fault her service at all. Unfortunately the food she was serving didn’t match up. The starter platter was good, but everything else was merely average and both my boiled rice and my partner’s fried rice was hard and stale. My advice if you’re eating here is to order for take away. The extra cost for eating in isn’t worth it. The waitress will still treat you like royalty when she hands over your bag of food.

Missed 2 bags of chips from order

We ordered home delivered food. Itr was bang on time with good portions. I have used them before, and I'll do so again.

Possibly the worst Chinese I've ever had. Cold, chewy chicken. Pots of sauce had separated and no real flavour. Spring rolls chewy. Everything looked and tasted a bit stale, like leftovers reheated. The best bit was the prawn crackers!

Worst Chinese I’ve eaten from. Portion sizes are terrible especially for the price they’re charging, items missed from our order and not compensated for when calling in. DO NOT USE THEM UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE A BAD MEAL.

We have a Lu Shan take away every time we visit family on the island and usually its great but unfortunately it was really disappointing tonight. Bland tasteless food with a really strange texture to the sauces, inedible chicken balls and chicken satay. Such a shame, we have always enjoyed it in the past.

Its the worst Chinese on the island, if not in the UK, I promise you you will be disappointed, nothing tastes like you would expect, half filled portions, chewy crackers, old ribs, mushy chow mein, shredded beff tastes like hp brown sause, wet empty spring rolls , its all went in the bin, its the most disgusting food available on the iow you would be better off eating out of the bin in Mcdonald carpark the owner obviously has lost all interest in the business as he's just serving up slop, DON'T BELIEVE THE GOOD REVIEWS THEY ARE FAKE it truly is that bad x

One of my favourite things when away is trying the different takeaways as each does things slightly different. We had a takeaway delivered from here tonight to St. Helens. Very handy bang on time and piping hot. Very reasonably priced and good sized portions. All very fresh with nice ingredients. Wasn’t sure what to expect from the varying reviews but this far exceeded my expectations. The portions were great. Everything was fresh, super tasty, and really nice. Will definitely order from here again or go eat in the restaurant. Highly recommended.

Completely shocked by the service. One dish on our order was wrong (we were given a mushroom chop suey instead of a chow mein) and when i called them to ask to get the correct dish they said we had to order the dish and pay again which I thought was not right. I even offered to go back down and return the wrong dish and pick up the replacement. The most shocking thing was the lady in the background (who I assumed was the manager or owner) screaming in a rage which was uncomprehendable. She started screaming at the assistant I was on the phone to telling her that if we wanted to cause trouble to call 999. In the end I just said leave it. From a £65+ order asking to replace 1 incorrect dish I did not expect such anger and rage. The food was average and will not be ordering here again.

Like so many British small town Chinese takeaways this food was poor and nothing like real Chinese food. The sweet and sour pork was made using over cooked chewy fatty pork and was only 40 % meat rest being onions peppers etc.The chicken chow mien was so so dry both noodles and chicken. The satay looked fried not grilled as it should be. Similarly the ribs looked fried and were not cooked with a coating. Again just dry and tasteless. The spring rolls were bought in frozen type both tiny and tasteless. Only in the various China towns in U.K. can you get a freshly properly cooked Chinese meal it seems.The best bit about this meal were the bought in prawn crackers!

Best Chinese on the island, they deliver to Brading and its alway pipping hot, very quick also. And the food is outstanding. Fresh and the right portions. The only Chinese I don't feel too groggy after with. Very friendly service. The only place I'll ever go to on the island for a Chinese.

Returned to Lu Shan in Bembridge iow and had yet another amazing meal. The food is very good. We just can’t fault it. The staff are very friendly and the service is very good.

Ordered a takeaway whilst staying locally on holiday. Found the prices were high compared to home but having reviewed some other menus it seems to just be an Isle of Wight thing. The main courses were very nice however the chips were very disappointing - oven style crinkle cut and a small bag were almost £3. The containers were also smaller than experienced elsewhere which made it feel even less value for money.

Food was really nice. Staff really polite. The only down side is they didn't ask if we want desert or any other drinks.

Best Chinese restaurant and takeaway

On holiday from the mainland. Had takeaway delivered on our last night. What more can I say. Brilliant. One of the best takeaways we've had for years. Cheers Lu Shan.

The Vegetable Curry was good and plentiful but the rice was very dry. The House Special Chow Mien was poor, the amount of meat and prawns was very small and the noodles and vegetables were dry and tough. Delivery was prompt and efficient.

Monday 7th Sept,about 7pm " 'Ere bud,are you local?" "Yes" "Great,sorry to bother you.I hear there are 2 Chinese Takeaways around here,which 1 would you say is best?" "That 1"...(man and his 2 companions point in the direction of Lu Shan) Signs request the wearing of masks and 1 customer at a time if ordering takeaway,which,in these uncertain times,is not an issue for me. Young lady was taking an order from a table so I waited at the counter.When she took her position behind the counter,she couldn't apologise enough for keeping me waiting (no more than 5 minutes).She took my order of Chicken Fried Rice & House Special Chow Mein and told me it would be ready in 15 minutes whereupon I went back outside and sat at a table with the missus. Sure enough,15 minutes later,the young lady came out with our order and again apologised for the wait which,in our view,was to be expected at any food takeaway outlet and at £13,no dearer that back home. Lu Shan Chinese Restaurant gets a thumbs up from me 👍

We had a lovely evening here. The service was friendly, helpful and welcoming. The food was delicious. Service was a little slow due to being very busy with takeaway orders but this wasn’t a problem for us.All five of us greatly enjoyed our meal here.

We go to Lu Shan about twice a year and have always had a great experience. I think they may have been short staffed on Sunday 26th July evening, plus possibly a new member of waiting staff. Was glad when the Manager took over with her usual brilliant service. Quite a few people coming in to collect their takeaway meals and very few of them wore masks. Found this a bit unnerving.

Cited in a lovely village and hopes were high but it was a disappointment. Chirpy service and helpful too but got the order wrong twice . Took an aeon to arrive and the duck was a quack. 3 pieces of edible duck for an 8 quid main is not acceptable. Crispy vegetarian rolls were all crisp no roll. Chili squid was ok but my local chippie would’ve blushed at the amount of oil used. Would I go back. No chance. Are they assuming we won’t and therefore serving this quality. Probably

It's Chinese take away food, cooked to a pretty reasonable standard. Didn't eat in the restaurant, so just had takeaway food but I couldn't fault the overall quality. Menu pretty standard but I'd go with the concept of it does what it says on the tin. I've had much worse and providing you don't want something 'extra special' it's fine. Took an hour to prepare the meal, from ordering on the phone at 5.45 on a Saturday.

A really good takeaway. Whilst visiting the Isle of Wight we stayed in and ordered a Chinese takeaway from Lu Shan. It was a big order and they delivered to reception to our holiday park within the time they had said. The food was hot, really good sized portions and every dish was tasty. Our whole party ate a different dish and I have to say they were all very impressed. You never know what you might get with a takeaway so this was a pleasant surprise and we would definitely recommend them.

Food good. Service very slow indeed and clearly the very busy delivery and takeaway business takes higher priority than restaurant diners. Under COVID19 rules they score ZERO. No sanitiser. No name/phone list. No obvious extra cleaning of tables. No distancing measures in place. We were too hungry to bother when we went in but were increasing concerned during our time as we observed (and waited and waited...). Hunger won, and as I said, food was good. Young waiting staff were poorly trained and not managed.

The food is excellent if you ever get to experience it this is now the third time I have gone in and placed a order for a takeaway. And the service has been abismal people who come in after you eating in the restaurant getting there food well before yours. Delivery girls coming in and out four times while you are still waiting for your takeaway. And being told your food will take 20 minutes after 30 minutes and asking how much longer it will be being told 40 minutes. I will never ever give this place my business ever again totally discussed if it was a one off fair enough but three times is totally unacceptable. I don't wish to place a review like this. As the food is good. But on this occasion enough is enough. I can't believe it has taken you 8 months to reply to my complaint. I think there are a few things that we need to clear up. I could not have arrived early as I came into you premises to place my order I did not raise my voice to your staff. But you came out shouting in your own language when I question you service. Which on the day was shocking bad a as for complaing to Bembridge house if they are connect to you and you can give me their details I will be more than happy to.

Well all I can say is, well cooked food and value for money, never mean on portion size and not expensive

Had one meal from here successfully delivered and it was good. Either the phone is permanently engaged, or off the hook or rings but is never answered!
