Lows in Aberdeenshire

As one of the filleters that supple lows I must say best fish n chips in Aberdeen 2nd to none....5star service can't thank you and your wonderful staff enough

Got a delivery yesterday. Black pudding and chips acceptable but scampi was terrible. Far too much soggy batter and the scampi tasted a bit odd. Didn't eat much of it and my stomach is still a bit unsettled today. Won't use it again.

We got fish suppers to take away from here the other night. The food was lovely, and I would recommend the battered haddock & chips. The prices are quite steep, but this seems quite common with fish & chips these days so I can't complain, it just means I can't come here as often as we'd like unfortunately.

Had fish and chips this evening for myself and my granddaughter served by Tracey every time she is always pleasant friendly and professional its staff like her that makes all the difference to any business shes worth her weight in gold the fish and chips were delicious l would recommend this place to others .

Low's Westhill has gone downhill in the last few months. The chips, which you'd hope a chipper could get right, are terrible - tiny, greasy, poorly (barely) cooked, loads of 'slivers' from using small potatoes. Their cost cutting is really obvious now - everybody knows costs are up, but the quality of the food has dropped too far. The shop looks tired. Where once someone used to come out to the customer side of the counter to do the customer service thing, now somebody shouts from the back of the counter to see if you've an order in before sullenly coming round to get an order, finishing the interaction with a grunted 'order 73' and going away without even a simple thank-you. The overwhelming impression is that customers are just annoyances.

They need to advise staff how to cook chips the are dry as old sticks also very poor portions of chips if your able to eat them far too expensive greed puts people out of business and loss of customers so take note so many bad reviews this shop has wake up and smell the coffee its obvious they have issues but choose to ignore them need to employ the correct staff with the right skills and attitude not a place l would recommend unless you have money to waste.

Ordered two standard haddock suppers from Low’s Westhill and we were horrified when we saw the portion size. How can they justify such hefty prices and serve tiny portions? Sadly, standards have slipped so much over the last year, we will take our business elsewhere in future. Not the best advert for attracting custom, time to stop the greed!

Fish is always good. Very few chippers do good chips but the chips here are the best I've had in a long long time.

So orders a steak pie meal and what was meant to be a korn chicken nugget meal. Was given the steak pie meal. But got a chicken dippers that were absolutely disgusting and could not eat. There were so greasy that I was sick afterwards eating them. My friend who had the pie said it was the worst they’ve ever had. Dry and extremely flacky. A waste £13 specially for the chicken. Could have went to Aldi and made them myself. Wish I got a refund.

Ordered food at 5pm arrived 7.30pm chips were cold and soggy, expect fresh fish in Aberdeen but was awful and batter not any better. I usually order from rose hill chipper but they weren’t doing deliveries so opted for lows berryden never again.

( berryden store) My husband and I would not recommend this chipper. Most of the staff were lovely. One member recommended me some items and we went for the ones suggested. The staff member who handed us our order and took payment had a bad attitude. Didn’t let that get to us as it could have been an off day. Got back to my house to eat our family dinner. My fish supper was okay nothing to complain about. My husband who absolutely hates fish bit into one of his “chicken”? Fillets and it turned out they gave him a mixed combo meal which contained 2 chicken fillets, 2 fish fillets and a medium size portion of chips which we payed £9 for. Nothing more than a little kids meal but for an adult price. My husband was so upset when he realised he was eating fish. We asked for chicken fillets not combo meal this was shocking to me and him. We will not be returning if staff can mess up a simple order and to be honest the food was so average I wouldn’t bother when there’s much better fish and chip shops in Aberdeen. Overrated chipper for the controversies it’s had in the past.

Where to start got are food late so was freezing cold but that was just eats fault, then when i asked why the chip portion was so small and he said with a regular chicken breast super you get a small chips and I should of got a bigger size, as the chicken breast and chips for £9.90 is not enough to pay, then I got there reason why the chicken was missing its batter, he said it was the apps fault as it sends through to the chipper without batter, or so the lad was trying to tell me, the manager did a great job of trying to fix the issue by offering 20% of the next order lol. worst chipper takeaway I have ever had in my life!!!

I used to love coming to Lows on a regular basis, but on my last visit (Sunday evening) I was £16.00 for a standard haddock single and a standard haddock supper which I think is too expensive, especially as the portion size was quite small. The food was quite tasty, I have to admit; however I was also charged 40p for a small sachet of sauce which all adds up in the current climate. The service was first class, so no complaints there. In summary, the food was OK but the prices were too high so I won’t be rushing back unfortunately.

Over the past 5 or so years the quality has gone downhill. I keep trying and am repeatedly disappointed. I rarely receive a chip that is longer than 2-3 cm (inch). The oil used for frying has an unpleasant taste and aftertaste, If you order curry sauce and the food is bagged up for you, they servers often place the curry sauce on its side, so by the time you reach home the top has leaked and most of your sauce is in the wrapping. (I have mentioned this to the management several times). The fish and batter is usually OK. Far better quality suppers are available from the old Police Station in Hazelhead, or from the chipper in Elrick just a couple of miles away. Lows needs more competition and they might improve.

As a long standing customer I had always been impressed by the quality and consistency of the food on offer. However, having ordered scampi and haddock suppers on 1st June 2022 I was left bitterly disappointed. The scampi consisted of tiny morsels of over crisp batter which contained minute pieces of scampi. The chips were mushy and contained a high level of scraps. I provided the shop with immediate feedback by e mail at the time and to date have received no response. This is very disappointing.

Visited Lows before for large chippy tea - lots of chips and quality service. Prices admittedly on the increase but that's a sign of the times. Staff are friendly.

I got a takeaway for the family from here last night. Two fish suppers and one single fish. Food was ready in 15 minutes. The fish was very tasty. Portion size was decent. Overall very happy with our meal. The bill came to over £20 which I think is very expensive for 3 people, but I guess this is the going rate. Will definitely use again as the food was very nice, but will wait until there are some BOGOF vouchers to get a good deal.

First time here for a few months had haddock and chips fish was dripping in oil worst fish supper for a long long time

Portion sizes are very small, considering the price you pay in comparison. Not only that, chips taste very bland and not much taste. I think the best part of it was the over priced bottle of iron bru. Think we will venture out of Westhill for a taste of a good chipper 😄

This is a macaroni pie apparently, Inedible is the only way to describe it. Rest of the food was disappointing and freezing cold, even though we waited 30 minutes over the collection time. Shame as heard nothing but good things about this chip shop 😢...

Went to the Berryden Road branch. Charged over £12 for a jumbo haddock supper & single white pudding. Very expensive for greasy food. Most of it was binned and I went elsewhere for food.

Received order and ended up in the bin food absolutely soaked in grease. Second time this has happened so won’t be returning.

I visited today. Just wished to enquire if the fish was made in the same oil as other meat. Due to personal reasons I did not wish for the fish to be made in the same oil as the other meat products. Tracey was a delight. She cooked the fish in a completely different oil and pan just for us. She also told us that we can call the restaurant and make such request in the morning so they can prepare it for us. Made us feel very special. Happy customers. Thank you so much

In Covid times, it was great to phone in an order for it then to be brought out to the car. We did this as to have our supper delivered would have entailed a 90 minute wait, and hunger prevailed. Once back home the fish and chips were excellent and very tasty. We will do this again.

All I can say is WOW. I’m working away from home(Birmingham) and this place has made my night what a great bit of food simple cod an chips but a great portion an a very good taste the picture speaks volumes

Decided on a takeaway from Lows Traditional Fish and Chips. Very happy with our food. Partner said the fish was amazing and I had chicken fillets, they were lovely. Staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend.

Le he dado a esto un puntaje promedio, ya que aunque no disfruté lo que tenía, a mi esposo le gustó el suyo. Pensé que las patatas fritas estaban muy secas y gomosas y mi salchicha vegana tenía un extraño sabor a hierbas muy fuerte. No soy quisquilloso con la comida, pero simplemente no podía comerlo. Mi marido tenía pescado y patatas fritas y dijo que estaban bien. El servicio fue realmente eficiente y amigable y fue fácil de ordenar y recoger durante COVID.

Pedimos y pagamos en línea y dimos un tiempo para la recolección junto con los detalles de nuestro automóvil y número de registro. Entonces, el simulacro consiste en estacionar su automóvil en el estacionamiento frente a Low's, y cuando su pedido esté listo, el personal lo llevará en una bolsa de papel grande y lo colocará en el suelo junto a su automóvil. Funcionó bien en una tarde soleada de verano. El pescado y las patatas fritas todavía están a la altura del estándar al que hemos llegado, excepto de Low's. Porciones generosas.

Somos clientes habituales de los niveles más bajos de westhill viviendo en el área local y podemos decir honestamente a través de los tiempos difíciles y la incertidumbre últimamente que esta tienda de chips no nos ha defraudado ni una vez. La comida es absolutamente de la mejor calidad y fresca como siempre, y el personal es igual de educado y servicial, y tiene un sistema brillante y seguro con la crisis del covid 19.Ya hemos mantenido este chippy alto en nuestros estándares, pero aún más ahora. Went to Lows at Berryden for the first time and got a large portion of chips. Was really surprised how big the portion was, definitely wasn’t disappointed and enough for two! Would definitely come back for more, the lady on the phone was lovely!

Sentí que me estaban ignorando de pie al lado esperando mi cena. cuando finalmente lo conseguí, me alegré de haberlo comprobado antes de partir, ya que era la comida equivocada. Obtiene la comida para llevar correcta por segunda vez. Se fue a casa a cenar y estaba satisfecho con el pescado, pero las patatas fritas eran malas y, por tercera vez consecutiva, no había rodajas de limón en la caja. No crea que va a ganar ningún premio este año con ese tipo de servicio, puede que tenga que encontrar otro chippy

Great service during lockdown through Just Eat. Well cooked food, delivered piping hot to our doorstep well within the estimated time by a pleasant delivery man. You really couldn’t ask for more. Top marks to Lows.

Decepcionante dado que el producto es uno de los mejores a nivel local cuando se sirve caliente, pero no cuando se ha mantenido caliente durante siglos.

Lo hemos usado regularmente durante más de 15 años. Gran servicio cada vez. Está en el centro comercial justo al lado de la rotonda Westhill en el hotel.Los sábados están más ocupados con colas a puerta.Todo está preparado a pedido y muy caliente.También hacen pedidos telefónicos.Muy recomendable.

Have been using Low’s for years and have honestly never had a bad meal. Granted we nearly always go for the haddock supper but it is consistently great quality, even when it is busy.Was shocked to see a couple of bad reviews lately this is literally one of the best chippers in the North East!

This is my third visit to this chipper and it will be my last. The first couple of times all i got was 2 portions of chips, despite the fact I was the only customer, took over 25 mins both times. Then when I recieved my chips, they were not the best...

A friend brought me a standard haddock supper and a mince pie(no chips) from the Berryden shop. On opening the box my first reaction was, these chips are uncooked. Barely beige in colour, they were also incredibly thin, as if a "normal" chip had been sliced length ways into 3. A cunning cost saver. Given their thinness, it's even more miraculous they were uncooked as any length of time in the fryer would have given them some colour, On further investigation, I see there are pictures of these pale insipid offerings on the website as if it's an achievement. It amazes me that people accept this. All it takes is for a customer in the shop to point out the chips are uncooked, could you please put them back in the fryer.

Went to Lows at Berryden today for the first time fish and chips were really nice all cooked fresh good value for money just as good as Lows at Westhill

Everyone knows that Lows is the best For their varied menu to put to the test. Being a fish n chips person I always go for that As I know I love them although they probably make me fat.

Tuve el gran placer de haber comido dos cenas de pescado y ha sido de primera clase en ambas ocasiones, al igual que todas las comidas familiares. Fue acribillado también, lo cual es comprensible y lo que me sorprendió fue que nuestro pedido fue tomado mientras acabábamos de ingresar muy profesional. Bien hecho chicos, volveremos.

Worst chip supper I’ve ever had! Thought I would treat the family on Friday night. Ordered mock chop supper and 2 king rib suppers. King ribs were burned beyond recognition and totally inedible - straight into bucket. Mock chop was slightly better but never again. Chips were not great either but eaten as we were hungry. The lad who served me was more interest in using his phone, in full view of customers, rather than customer service. Won’t be back. One star is too good but had no option but to give it.

I visited simply on the basis of the restaurant’s success in the national awards ; it placed in 3rd position. On this basis I had high expectations. My conclusion was that my meal was excellent but not exceptional. My only slight negative observation was that the standard sized haddock was on the slightly modest side. Some variance in portion size of fillet has to be expected however so perhaps I was simply unfortunate. The key question is would I return. Yes I would, but perhaps I would not drive quite so far out of my way to do so.

Worst macaroni pie I have ever tasted! One bite was enough to know never to taste again .... I can’t even describe it it was that bad.... hopefully Westhill is better???

Two weekends ago we had 2 Fish and Chip Suppers.They were both quite good. The standard fish can vary in size and one of their competitors is serving a decent standard Haddock. I find if we travel a bit further to another supplier approx 5 miles each way....The suppers when we arrive home do not need to be reheated like the Lows ones which is only 1 mile away. The supper is very edible but some times during the eating it has to be reheated even though it has been in a hot bag and straight out of the fryer

We visited Lows last night and all I can say it’s the best ever fish and chips we have ever tasted. So fresh and tasty. Thank you and we hope to visit again.

Service was good. Food cooked to order. I had a standard haddock which I thought was on the small size but was cooked perfectly and the batter was actually crispy. Another member of the group had chicken fillets supper. Said it was ok but would have been better if it had been homemade.

Came into Lows the other day and went for the haddock supper. Food was good but Katie who served me for the wrap up and paying was rather rude to me and it felt like she did not want to be there. She wouldn’t even look me in the eye and was almost sighing whilst doing her job (which on front of customers is very disrespectful and made me feel awkward). I was impressed by the food though!

Bought four meals for family 3 standard haddock and red pudding all with chips. Fish was lovely...nice golden crisp batter but the chips were a big let down. They were pure white limp soggy and badly undercooked . Seems time was far more important than quality.

Having heard of Lows success in national chip shop awards I was eager to try. The ship is modern and clean, I decided upon Cod and chips which when came was of an ok portion size, I ordered a portion of peas to accompany the fish & chips but must say they were nothing compared to chipshop peas south of the border.

Friendly welcome. Fish well lresented with lemon garnishing,variety of chip sizes. Fresly cooked black and white puddings. Fish was very tasty but puddings a bit dry.

Fish is my favorite food - finding good fish and chips can be difficult but not at Lows.

My brother lives nearby and swears by this place. It is nearly always queued out the door, partly because everything is cooked to order. I've had consistently good fish 'n' chips here when I visit, going back 5 years or so.

Went in and ordered 2 fish suppers. The counter server asked if I wanted salt and vinegar.I said yes I then waited ages to pay and the suppers were sitting on the counter getting soggy.I then asked if I could get fresh ones as I waited so long for the counter staff to change a till roll.The man that takes the orders came up and was very rude saying I had complained twice before about the fish being small. I had complained once and was quite within my rights as a paying customer.His attitude was very rude and I was shocked that he said he was the owner.I have read reviews and I am not the only customer to bring to their attention that the fish are small.An owner of an establishment should not treat customers in the rude manner in the way he did Wont be giving lows Westhill anymore custom.Shocking and disgraceful service

Our local chippy. Food is always made fresh and very good quality - which is great, but sometimes it would be nice to just walk in and get what you want without the 15+ minute wait. Seems to be the way with most chip shops these days however.

El pescado era excelente, aunque la porción de pescado sin gluten podría haber sido más crujiente. Francamente, sirven tantos chips con sus cenas de pescado que, la próxima vez, pediremos un solo pescado y una cena de pescado en lugar de dos cenas.

Al llegar, me impresionó que un joven se acercara a usted y tomara su orden mientras hacía cola. Lo que acelera los proses! ¡Y nunca he visto esa cantidad de personal detrás de un mostrador de un lugar de ese tamaño lol debe haber sido 8 personas jóvenes apretadas detrás de los pedidos de clasificación de mostrador! ¡Y aún así se cocinan con productos frescos, así que todavía esperas la misma cantidad de tiempo para obtener tu comida! El lugar está limpio! El personal es muy amable y eficiente! Mi única queja es el tamaño de las porciones de pescado. . . Muy pequeños "pero deliciosos" tamaños. Volvería otra vez pero no para el pescado.

Consistently good fish and chips. There is also a wide range of other take away foods. Busy, but the queues and ordering are well organised.

Keep giving them the benefit of doubt, keep getting a big let down, medium haddock that i think drowned in the oil and shrank to less than small the chips i got would have been alright if they were hot , partners pie and the chips and smoked sausage were okay but for £16.40 very very poor value

Highly overpriced, the haggis was nice, but the chips were undercooked and fish even though it was the jumbo, it was small and it had practically any taste.

Amongst the best fish and chips I've had, certainly the best in the area by far. Jumbo Haddock can sometimes not be very "Jumbo" but it's almost always fresh and cooked to perfection! Highly recommended.

I had a takeaway from here last night. I ordered the standard haddock. It was possibly the best battered fish I've ever had in my life. It was nice and crispy and basically cooked to perfection. I also had a side of onion rings which were fine. The bill came to £7.50 which was value for money. The food was made in about 10-15 minutes and the service was good. Overall I really enjoyed my meal from here and I will definitely be back.

We've had fish and chips all around the UK, from the best rated places in Cornwall to the top rated spot on Lewis, and we still love Lows! Luckily we live close enough to visit regularly, and the fish is crispy, fresh and flavorful just about every time, scrumptious fluffy chips and yummy homemade tartare sauce! I'm a tartare sauce girl and theirs is my favorite. I'm astonished at the low reviews cuz we've have many places to compare and Lows still wins!

Visited while working in the area for some tea, chips decent portion fruity curry seemed homemade just no spice and a fanta. Overpriced massively at £5.00 would go back but only if nothing else available.

Just bought two standard fish suppers and was very disappointed. The fish was so small I thought I had been given pensioners portions and at the price they charge it was not value for money. Worse still they charge an extra 50p for using a credit card.

Very affordable takeaway options and the chips portion sizes are huge. The option of a kid's menu is an added bonus

Just been for fish and chips. We ordered 2 cod and chips at £7.60 each which I thought was expensive but we were hungry. i thought there were 2 small cods on each portion but when we got out only one portion had 2 on it. I can honestly say I have never had such a small fish. The fish was nice enough but the batter was really soggy.

Have used this Fish and Chip Shop for many years and it has quality products. Swift service and also has Scampi, Pies etc and Jumbo Haddock if you are really hungry.

I have been using Lows the chipper for years.It is open all hours and the staff are always cheerful and helpful.We are traditionalist and always have fish and chips which are always of high quality.The shop is always busy which is proof of it's popularity in Westhill

After a eight hour drive and somewhat hungry, I needed a walk also, so I googled local fish & chip shops, they where a thirty minute walk from the Hilton, OMG the best fish & chips I have had in a long time, not only that the black board stated where and when the fish was caught, now that’s a first.

The atmosphere was all round very happy. The meal was top notch quality, everything about it was beautiful and would truly recommend this for anyone wanting a very tasty meal. To be honest i found the prices a lot cheaper than expected and i was happy with the food i was provided with. Would definitely recommend for a family meal and i will be attending another meal here.

Scampi and small haddock plus chips - all delicious and they do smaller portions for those with smaller appetite. Friendly efficient service after phoning through order
