Lost In The Lanes in Brighton and Hove

I’ve had the impression this place is overhyped, the food is ok, not to write home about, and on weekends it generally takes 45 minutes as it seems their kitchen is too small to deal with the table capacity. The seats against the wall are uncomfortable, cold drafts reach even the furthest areas of the restaurant so when it’s cold or windy it’s pretty chilly. Coffee drinks are nice.

Very nice brunch had the butchers bacon cooked to perfection and poached eggs delicious. really enjoyed the potatoes too. Top notch.

Absolute gem of a place. We only stopped in for tea and cake, but would definitely come back for dinner.

A lovely place to enjoy delicious food, in a comfortable and beautiful environment. The staff are very friendly and professional. Really enjoyable experience. The food was very tasty and good portions. They served it quickly and nicely presented. The restaurant is in a small alley, close to the centre of town only a few minutes from the beach. Very recommended!

Tuesday morning looking for warm, friendly cafe with a good vibe. Lost in the Lanes was the perfect place. Gluten free breakfast easily catered for, wonderful cappuccino. Great customer service. Highly recommended 🌟

New to Lost in the lanes, very happy I chose this place to celebrate with my mum for an early Mother’s Day lunch. Busy, and vibrant yet comfortable and friendly. Food and drink options are great, we opted for the: ROASTED CAULIFLOWER £16 Hummus, salsa verde, golden sultana, flat bread (v,veo, ngo) SQUASH & SAGE RISOTTO £16 Brown butter (veo) Drinks: Turmeric vanilla oat latte & an apple juice. Reasonably priced and tasty. Highly recommend booking in advance as extremely busy and popular, today the queues leading outside.

I used to come to Lost in the Lanes loads for a coffee and cake. Love the new layout/vibe. Food was absolutely delicious - what I had was simple but so tasty. First waitress we had was a little salty, perhaps a bad day, but didn’t seem like they wanted to be there! Second was delightful - very helpful and speedy.

Quality place, food and people.

The atmosphere and music playlist were amazing. The mugs and plates were also very well-chosen! Only thing we didn't like was the haddock chowder as it was too salty. I would have also preferred the potato to be blended than chunky as it is

Lost in the Lanes is the most fabulous find in Brighton - stylish with great seasonal menus, interesting wines and beautiful cocktails. Warm friendly service and amazing value. Can not rate highly enough.

NOT allergy friendly! Went in for a cake and a coffee only to be told all cakes are made off site and they can’t confirm the ingredients. I explained cross contamination was fine but was told they had no idea what was actually in the cakes (in my case nuts) so had to leave with nothing.

A busy, atmospheric escape true to its name with friendly and welcoming staff. I'm now addicted to their avocado toast and turmeric latte much to my surprise and despite my own resistance haha. Their sweet treats are fresh and delicious and you won't regret anything you eat here. I've had repeat visits and consistently positive experiences here and even when it's busy, there is a quiet corner to be found and if not, the staff are genuinely apologetic and suggest or try and find ways to make space for you. Absolutely love this space and definitely my go to favourite in Brighton.

Sunday veggy brunch. The veggy dishes are tasty and nice presented. A bit slow and small coffee cups. The atmosphere is young vibes and welcoming warm. Prices are a bit high but good quality.

Je suis aller pour prendre un petit déjeuner, et vraiment je suis pas déçu, la serveuse était adorable, j'avais pris un avocat de toast qui était à tombé par terre, puis un pain perdu, qui était pas mal, j'avais pris un café qui bien corsé, puis un chocolat chaud que j'ai pas trop aimé on dirait qu'ils ont dilué avec de l'eau. En tout ça c'était très bon je vous recommande.

Highly recommended cosy morning eatery spot. If you are looking for a place to answer some work emails, and dig into something delicious then this is the place. This is a must visit in Brighton for brunch .

First visited here for just a coffee & was so impressed by the food served at the table next to us that I was determined to return on my next trip to Brighton which was today. We were not disappointed

Everything was good apart from the seats that I personally didn't find comfortable to stay. It seems people books to have a table. Food wise very nice all I wished for my breakfast, service was super nice. Definitely a good place to go, avoid places close to the door. By cold weather the wind gets in.

Great food and coffee. Would have been 5 stars, However we were told we can’t have our small dog on our lap “due to health and safety”. Firstly there is no legislation in H&s to this effect. Secondly whose health or safety is this theoretically affecting? It’s my dog on my own lap. Don’t make up code to serve your weird needs. Educate your wait staff or don’t be dog friendly. Don’t pretend to know laws that don’t exist.

When we came it was crowded and we should wait 10 minutes …and in the end, when we sat at the table, it turned out that the waiter did not tell us that the kitchen does not work between 3 and 7pm …only drinks and only a few cakes…we were hungry and angry…

hip.busy. (overrated?) i ordered a bottle of water. it came in a glass! i cant hold a glass due to broken hand. i had to go up to bar for a straw due to obvious facial injury i had to go up again (despite my leg disability) to pay because when i was fetching straw they were too busy to take my money i was refused the more suitable corner table as it had a tiny 'reserved' sign. no one turned up to use that table Victor was kind and helpful on my way out. no one else was

Slow. Expensive. £6 for a small piece of mediocre cake. 1 espresso and a piece of cake took 15 mins to arrive and it wasn’t busy.

The hot drinks taste lovely and displayed in a gorgeous manner as are their breakfasts. Would definitely suggest visiting here if you get the chance and have the spare change to do so.

Tea & cake absolutely delicious !

I came around for diner last weekend with my best friend for her birthday, it was a super lovely meal, Love that the menu is short it’s always a good indicator to me, local and seasonal products only, simple and straightforward, nostalgic and wholesome, unexpectedly familiar ingredient combinations, every single dish we had sent me back straight to Beaujolais and my childhood flavours. Love a good meal but love it even more when it is packed with emotions, it was nice feeling back home for a couple hours ! We closed the night with a sussex cheese platter with chutney and quince paste, the quince paste was made out of our waitress’s garden fruit, that felt very unique, we felt lucky! Our waitress was very warm and attentive and made it an even more enjoyable experience, thank you very much! Highly recommend and will definitely come back for more!

Paid what I thought was an awful lot of money (over £20) for a small slither of salmon trout with ONE leaf of lettuce. The most expensive leaf of lettuce you’ll ever eat. Could have at least brought a bit of bread to go with it. Was still hungry 50 quid later. Service poor. Basically got ignored and when they did ask they didn’t wait around to hear the answer. Ended up paying at the till as nobody bothered with us and they had the cheek to whack on a huge service charge for being ignored the whole time. Went to black mocha the day before in the north lanes and that was so much better. Definitely recommend that place. Great food and service and much better value. And left full to the brim having spent just 30 quid (for two).

Fantastic breakfast spoilt for choice and great quality food . I have been before and hope to return just wish was more local as I like the decor and open kitchen feel . Attentive service! Vegetarian breakfast and yoghurt granola bowl was fab !

Interesting, really cool place. Nice atmosphere. Great, friendly service. The chai latte with Baileys was delicious, but it wasn’t warm enough. The pistachio cake was nice, although a little dry. Overall, a solid 4 stars. Without those two issues mentioned above, I’d have given it a 5. The food looks good but I didn’t have any.

Food was amazing but after an hour wait, heard a lot of good things about lost and thought why not check it out. Got there and was greeted and shown to a table and ordered some drinks which was made in a reasonable time. However after ordering 2 breakfasts 40 mins later NO breakfast had showed up I call someone over and they try and locate a ticket unfortunately the waiter completely forgot to put it through and lost the order. if I’m honest by the looks of things it was just him taking orders so clearly over stretched but still not good enough not to notice a table hasn’t got their food. The service clearly needs attention as me and my partner felt they sat us down took the order (what they lost) and never got seen to again and yet they put service charge on!

Visited few months ago . Fantastic food. We booked there for brunch . Food did not disappoint. Service was a bit chaotic and forgetful at times but they were busy . It’s very popular . Dirty chai martini was to die for . My new favourite cocktail ❤️

A great place to have a catch up with friends.

Cosy little restaurant with beautiful decor and a calm, ambient atmosphere. The manager Zoe was very attentive and welcoming and did a fantastic job explaining the menu. Cocktails were fantastic and the food was even better. Would definitely recommend the pork (the sauce was amazing) and everything was cooked to perfection. Perfect for a lazy lunch or dinner, will definitely return.

I booked a table for Saturday Suppers, I am aware this is a new night, and I can assure you it doesn't disappoint! The staff were welcoming and efficient. The food was incredible with an array of flavours! Make sure to get a cocktail while you are here because they are so delicious and pair nicely with the food!

Lovely staff. Beautiful Presentation, foods were awesome .Love the interior. It get packed quite fast especially on the weekend. Went there on weekdays luckily got ourselves a seat. Will be back to try other dishes !!

Love this space and it has such a great quality feel to it. As a local business, Papillon Living, we’re always asked for recommendations so this tops my list as a super place to go for that tea/coffee pit stop and so much more (Oh and dog friendly so top marks from Cosmo)

I'd leave a perfect review for the decor and food alone, but the service was slow and the food preparation took far too long in my opinion; the restaurant was empty aside from us but it still took a good 20 minutes. We had to prompt a couple of times for service and I was eventually made late for work because of this.

Nduja eggs was amazing!! Mimosa glass could be a tad larger :-) highly recommend!

Nice spot in the Lanes. However it was disappointing and wouldn't visit this cafe again. We just had coffee and cake. The coffees were just luke warm but quickly replaced with good hot coffees. They were, however, too milky and not strong enough. The piece of cake in spite of costing £5.95 was far too small a slice. So in all a waste of money.

Wonderful, atmospheric spot in Brighton’s lanes. Spacious and bright. Brunch was fantastic, particularly the spicy avocado on toast.

Lovely setting and decor in the Lanes. Had the cooked breakfast, hot drinks and fresh juices. The food was nice but certainly not the best in Brighton but was expensive. I would have expected black pudding and some beans perhaps home made as I have had in others (Moksha). It was nice, service was a little slow, think we were forgotten a little as others came in after and served before us. There are some dog friendly tables which is good. So it was good just not anything special for the price tag. This is just my personal opinion having had brunch each day of our trip to Brighton. Also dined at Moksha and Starfish & Coffee.

Had brunch at our favourite place in Brighton, this morning. We had the vegetarian brunch, this time. Wonderful, as ever. We'll be back soon. Looking forward to trying their new Saturday night menu.

O.M.G. - Just go - Get the French Toast - you won't regret it. When we first wandered in, I thought this was a bit pretentious, a bit "Brightony" for me. It seemed full of characters that you would expect to find in "this sort of place" and the food looked overpriced for what it was. BUT When the food arrives, you will be blown away by the quality and the taste. Any thought of pretentiosness dissapears as this food has been prepared by people who obviously care deeply about the quality and the taste of their product. It is absolutly first rate. The staff were lovely too, as was the coffee. We had the French Toast (highly recommended) and the Grenola (also looked great) with a coffee and a tea.

I think this might have been the best vegetarian breakfast I’ve ever had. The service and the food were both excellent. Will definitely visit again if we return to Brighton.

Amazing avocado toast! If you wanna enjoy the English Breakfast, must arrive before midday 😅
