We visit Derby two or three times a year to attend the theatre, but being Sunday our usual restaurant was closed. So we found Lorentes and wow, we are so happy to have done so! We loved the place and thought the food and service was absolutely top notch! We had a glass of wine each, homemade bread with a tomato dip, croquettes, calamari and the Spanish black pudding, egg & potato dish. Each was superb, and best of all (perhaps a rarity) was that the calamari was cooked perfectly. We loved the lack of pretentiousness about the restaurant - the chef and staff clearly want the food and wine to speak for themselves, and boy, they did. Next time, we'll make a reservation as ten minutes later and we'd have been turned away - we feel very fortunate to have found Lorentes, and it's now our 'go to' restaurant in Derby's cathedral quarter. Highly, highly recommended.

We came here on Mother's Day and were greeted in a friendly manner, the friendliness continuing throughout the meal. There was a good range of drinks available, but the sangria we had did seem to be lacking something: compared to sangria in Spain, it seemed a bit 'thin' on body and taste.
