Had a Christmas meal here today and could not have been more disappointed. The turkey main was stone cold and very little flavour, with burnt sprouts. I hadn't eaten all day and didn't want to waste food but it was a real let down. The brownie desert was nice though ice cream was fairly melted when it arrived. Servers were very friendly and accommodating. Just a shame the food was terrible

Cosy old low-ceiling pub with fires. Locals have cottoned-on to the great Sunday roasts here, and I recommend. Been here twice, and enjoyed both. Service was on par with a fully-fledged restaurant, and the roast was excellent.

Enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast, catered to non dairy needs for myself however was let down when I wanted to order a coffee and no milk alternative was available and was told they only do cows milk. The waitress was very apologetic however it would be great to offer milk alternatives to your non dairy guests.

Our visit to the lord Nelson was a reasonable visit, the staff are friendly and polite. The table we were given was very wonky and not idea for us, maybe this should be attended to. Food was really tasty but very pricey! A lovely idea to have some games to play was a nice idea and entertained our Grandchild and we enjoyed the games between the courses. But overall a good night and we will return.

Very shocked at how this pub has changed for the worse since l moved away last year. No hand drawn beers here like there used to be and a "new" menu with a limited choice of dishes and very expensive. Eighteen pounds for fish and chips is well above the going rate in my opinion, regardless of quality. The beer l ordered, Mighty Oak Pale Ale, tasted acidic and past its best, and really quite unpleasant. I had arranged to meet my cousins here for lunch and drinks next weekend, and l am now quite relieved that they have cancelled due to personal issues. I used to love this pub and used it regularly when l lived in Ipswich, and had some great times here. I will not be returning.

First off, this is a nice old pub - a proper pub. Thought we’d give the food a go one night. To be fair, the food was pretty good but for the prices, you could have gone to a ‘proper’ restaurant and got pimped up versions. I think they need to realise they are a pub and price accordingly. But, to reiterate, decent enough food.

Only staying in Ipswich for a couple of nights and wanted to get off the waterfront captive area for food. Just behind the marina we found this corner pub. Great place, old original beams and open fires. lots of little spaces to eat, great pub atmosphere. I have ham, egg and chips, all good value and super hot chunky crisp chips. My partner had lamb shank, which just fell of the bone and very tasty. Staff helpful, table service, good beer and wine.

Staying not far away for a couple of nights and we visited here for a meal. Very quiet on the night we were there but it was the Easter holidays so not many students around. Beer was very good.

We have not been able to get to our favourite pub due to a physical ailment that prevented my husband from walking. We were so excited to be able to finally get there and immediately decide fish and chips were needed. We’ve eaten this dish many times before but on this occasion I was disappointed. The fish was lovely but the chips tasted as if they’d been cooked a lot earlier and were actually only lukewarm. The prices had crept up I think because three fish and chip meals, two pints and a white wine spritzer costs £71. Not for the faint hearted I think. That sort of money is a lot for a meal that was at best only very average so I think next time we will just stick to the beer. I might add, their beer is always excellent and the service this time was also a lot better than it has been in the past. Other times we’ve eaten it’s taken far too long to clear the table and dirty plates had been pushed to the side for well over half an hour after we had all finished. We continue to visit purely because it’s one of the only decent pubs for miles. The waterfront pubs are really just places to be seen rather than venues that have real pub ambience. The real atmosphere of a traditional pub is fast fading and the Lord Nelson is one of only a few that still have this genuine warmth.

I had a meal and a few drinks here whilst visiting Ipswich. This is a lovely old pub with bags of character. The staff were really friendly and the service was good. Staff were attentive but not overly so. The restaurant and bar area has a low ceiling with a number of alcoves for more intimate dining if required. There is a range of food options and although not a beer drinker myself, there seemed a reasonable selection of ales and the like on offer. Well worth a visit if you're passing that way.

Called here last Sunday afternoon and received a warm welcome. The Ghost Ship was in good fettle but it is served via tap on a wood keg, not hand pulled, so you don't get a good head all the way down like we Northerners like! The chili beef nachos and Sunday roast pork dinner were very good indeed. Log burners in traditional surroundings make for an enjoyable cold winter afternoon. The staff here deserve a special mention and they also took care of our dog. Highly recommended.

Visited the pub tonight around 7.30pm and met by 3 bar staff who gave the impression they didn't want to be there. We struggled to get served with drinks, and when we did eventually get their attention they stated sorry unless you have booked its unlikely we can do any food as we have 2 parties in. When a colleague complained about having to stand at the bar 10 minutes plus to be told that, they said if you order now I'll see what I can do. Basically we have been customers here for 7 years now but won't be visiting again as staff were very rude and treated us as an inconvenience...the CCTV will demonstrate this.

My wife and I had the pork our friends the beef and it was perfect we had the addition of probably the best cauliflower cheese we had tasted it was great. We spent 4 hours at our table drinking fine wines and eating good food and were served by very good staff who were chatty and happy to help with anything. The Pub Staff are so friendly and fantastically helpful. The group of 4 of us came to Ipswich for the weekend as we came to The Town 50 years ago to sign on as boy sailors at HMS Ganges. We wandered from where we were staying on Saturday and found this lovely old fashion Pub with real Ale, the staff with their cheeky humour to Four old Farts old enough to be their grand parents? We used the pub again on Sunday evening to have food as well. The Pub is Dog friendly which is a Plus, I and my 3 colleagues would use this establishment again and recommend it to everyone as a very hospitable place

Went here for a nice quiet drink first time in the area, it was a lovely cosy atmosphere next to a gorgeous log fire just what we wanted, until someone started playing the piano, I'm not talking about background entertainment it was a piano just anyone could clearly just sit and play on. Sadly the person playing could not play and it was awful and so loud I couldn't sit and relax and hear my husband, we would have stayed for more drinks and for a meal but my ears just couldn't cope with the noise. If your going out for a drink or meal you don't want someone playing a piano loudly who can't even play, no wonder we were the only 2 people in the pub, awful idea having a piano in a pub that just anyone can sit at and try and play.
