Lovely cosy pub! Staff were really friendly, and couldn't do enough for you.food was outstanding and reasonably priced.I will Highly recommend.

Absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch. Very quick service for a lovely beef lunch. Plenty of choice with vegetables loads of gravy. Very reasonable price as well, highly recommend.

Absolutely terrible pub. Staff ignorant. Worst pub I've been to passing through a village in years. A disgrace. Avoid with kids for sure and avoid for meals any time or day

I've been here for both mid-week meals and Sunday lunches, and both have been amazing. For my mid-week meal I had chicken with garlic mushrooms ... wow, can tell it's made on the spot, and they cooked everything from scratch. Sunday lunch we had beef ... OMG the beef was stunning, my mother said the roasties reminded her of her childhood - I didn't try them because I don't like them (Sorry). The gravy was 1000000% made from scratch, including the bits of leftover meat in the gravy .. yummy!!!

Lovely cozy atmosphere, indoor stone fireplaces and wooden beams. We went here for Sunday lunch and the gravy was out of this world amazing. Beef was sliced well and tender, the roasties crunchy on the outside but fluffy inside. Veg tasted fresh and stuffing was lovely! The only let down for me was the Yorkshire pudding, it’s was too soft and spongy. But will definitely be visiting again, even if just for the gravy! So so good!

Sunday roast at the Lord Nelson Inn today was absolutely delicious! Roast beef that just melted in the mouth, crisp roasties, lovely Yorkshire puds with veggie sides and delicious gravy. For me personally I really valued having the inclusion of cabbage as being lactose intolerant, in most other restaurants I usually end up with carrots and potatoes because other veg usually come with some kind of sauce which is normally dairy based. A very enjoyable experience.

Just 1 slice of beef with each of 2 beef lunches. Only choices were beef or turkey. Ample veg but salty roast potatoes. Only sausages as a veggie option, hardly a choice. 2 desserts & 3 soft drinks. At a fraction under £50 it was expensive for what we had. I don't think we'll be returning.

Unfortunately had to cancel the Mother’s Day lunch I’d ordered at the last minute due to both my wife and grandson testing positive for COVID. In desperation, I asked whether staff could pull together a takeaway Sunday lunch instead and was amazed when they agreed . One beef, one pork and one turkey were ready at the agreed time and were absolutely delicious. Huge portions and everything cooked to perfection. A big thank you to all the staff concerned for pulling such a great meal together at such short notice. We’ve never had a takeaway Sunday lunch before (from anywhere) but will definitely be back for more. Absolutely perfect!

We went as a family of 8 and arrangements were spot on due to Covid restrictions. The place has changed lots since my last visit and remember having had one of the best steaks ever there once. This time however the good was mediocre. I had expected a bit more because of the prices. I ordered the pate for starter, that came without the melba toast and lacked any seasoning, not a hint of garlic or herbs and tasted more like a meat terrine. I then ordered the aromatic Thai curry. It came with rice, chips, naan and surprisingly a side salad on the same plate. A side salad with curry was a first for me. Three of our party had Scampi which had been hollowed out due to being overcooked. If I could give any advice, liven the salads served even on the sides with some dressing and not go so heavy with the raw onion. It has potential to be a great place but would have to think twice before eating there again. I didn't complain at the time, the staff were all lovely so am not looking for any comeback but genuinely just want to offer feedback because with some small tweaks it could be much better.

We came for Sunday lunch as the reviews looked good. Food was tasty but was NOT Sunday lunch. Choice or turkey or beef only. Came with 1 roast potato, 2 carrots, a spoonful of cabbage. The table of 5 had to share a small bowl of peas and some new potatoes. No other menu choice.

Really enjoyed the last Eat Out to Help At at the Nelson. 2 medium steaks and a scampi went down a treat. Staff were completely lovely and the refurb is beautiful. Will see you soon!

Food was OKAY, but the tables were horrible. We were sat hunched over our food, which was extremely uncomfortable. Make sure you book a tidy table. Usually a lot of loud drinkers there too

We visited here with the family, I didn’t know what to expect due to it being a small town pub.We were actually pleasantly surprised, the staff were all very friendly and we all enjoyed our food. We were the only table in there though.The decor inside was nice, I think if they replaced the carpets and a few small touches it would be really nice quaint pub.

We arrived at the Lord nelson greeted by a lovely young lady in the pub area . Very polite and friendly, showed us to our room to which we were very pleasantly surprised.The room we stayed in was fresh and clean , beautifully carpeted,wardrobe with coat hangers , dressing table with mirror , television with all the channels , the room was supplied with extra blankets extra heater and towels I’ve stayed in 5 star hotels with less and I mean a lot less!!The bathroom is a shared bathroom but again a pleasant surprise , no expense spared . Selection of designer soaps and shower gels fluffy towels , a power shower all presented in a modern tiled bathroom very clean and tidy .Restaurant situated within the pub was clean tidy and great selection of the usual pub grub and also some specials .Good selection of wines and beers various spirits were also available .Lots of seating available also a log fire , lots of great features in this pub.Smoking area outside with cover , very much needed in our lovely welsh weather !! A great place to stay , eat and drink . Highly recommended

Fantastic meal only thing that spoiled it was the ignorant person sat behind us that insisted on taking up twice as much space than needed and refused to move to let anyone out

Thought we’d give it a try , is currently up for sale , was ok steak was bit over cooked and wife wasn’t to keen on her meal , no other diners in restaurant, nice old fashioned place but there are two better pubs in village to eat , hopefully would improve in future

A nice, tasty Sunday lunch with plenty of meat, veg and gravy. However dessert options were limited and then ran out of one choice by 1pm! Cosy atmosphere. Friendly staff. Reasonably priced. I would recommend for Sunday lunch. Ps also dog friendly in the bar and staff came out with treats and meat for the dog.

Went there for Sunday lunch tp celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary and was not disappointed. Large plates appeared with own choice of meats. Mine was turkey and beef and hubby's was pork and beef home cooked and thickly sliced and it came with yorkshire, roasties, stuffing ball and cabbage. Tureens of fresh veg then appeared with 2 gravy boats. Absolutley tasty as all was home cooked and fresh and piping hot. Was too much for us both as we are hearty eaters so can see how big a meal it was. Will definitely be going back as price was £8.95 each person. Brilliant!!

Wonderful local pub, serves my favourite pint of stowford. Always very welcoming. Bar staff short in stature big in sense of humour.

Really enjoyed our meal here last night, beautiful steaks with all the trimmings. It was very busy but we didn't have to wait long for our meal. We have eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed with our meals. The staff are lovely and very welcoming. We will definitely return and would recommend it to anyone looking for nice food at a very reasonable price.

We very often visit the Nelson area and was introduced to The Lord Nelson pub for lunch, and what a pleasant surprise friendly staff and lovely food. We was informed that the food would be cooked fresh so it would be a while and whilst we were waiting the waiter kept us informed. The food was cooked to perfection and was hot and very tasty. Would I go back yes without hesitation.

Have visited several times and I must say that since my last review the food has consistently been very good. Service is attentive if a little slow - we waited over half an hour for 5 mains and we were only one of two table in there at lunchtime. When they arrived all our meals were delicious and just the right portion size. My biggest complaint would be that it is very cold, there is no roaring fire (visited on a cold day in January) and the radiators were on very low so although we were sat next to a radiator we all began to feel cold quite quickly.

Hadn’t booked but called in on a Saturday evening for food. Lovely pub with friendly staff. Fitted us in even though they were busy. Really enjoyed our steaks with home made chips & delicious pepper sauce. Will return to work our way through the menu.....

Very poor. A tired pub with tired fixtures and fittings. A lack of staff delayed the servings. The menu was very basic. 2 choices to start and 2 meats to choose from for main. 4 choices for dessert. The quality of the food was poor. The gravy was lumpy chicken-like gravy. Expectations were low prior to giving it a go. Wouldn’t go back. Room for improvement essential

Went with my boyfriend to the Nelson inn on a Saturday for lunch at around 1:30. We were served by a very friendly two ladies, one of whom I think was the owner and the other the chef. When asked for water we got a jug with ice and lemon which was very thoughtful.

we went to the Lord Nelson as a party of five, we had a warm welcome straight away and the pub is beautiful very clean and cosy, we ordered our food at the table served by a lovely barmaid, When the food arrived I was in Awe, everyone's food looked absolutely amazing, everything was correct and the meals were hot, with great potion sizes and I can honestly say I enjoyed every single bite massive compliments to the chef I believe her name was Karen and the lady behind the bar who couldn't do enough for us, I highly recommend and I can't wait to come back

We went to the Lord nelson last night with work and I've got to say the food was by far the best I've had there. Steak cooked to perfection. The bar maid serving us was very nice and helpful. Compliments all around.

Four of us had lunch here today and we were all impressed with the food.I had a sweet potato and coconut curry which was absolutely delicious, the best curry i have ever tasted.The staff are lovely and the whole atmosphere is welcoming.This is now going to be our' go to' place for any family celebration.

Stopped in here for dinner, very glad to find it open on a Monday. Good easy and delicious pub food, but upmarket pub with all the classics. I had the salmon and it was delicious! The staff were friendly and quick with service.

I have been to this restaurant a number of times with family and very close friends and have never once had an issue until today. Judith I believe her name was took our drink orders managed to get a simple order wrong which wasn’t the issue.

We were visiting family in the area and had Sunday lunch at The Lord Nelson, it was one of the best Sunday lunches we’ve ever had! And I can’t rate the gravy enough, what a different and delicious taste it was, it absolutely made the dinner! And it was great value for money.

Four of us paid £15 a head for three courses, and the food was FAB! I had pate to start..delish - then the softest tastiest piece of beef, plenty of veg and real gravythen key lime pie and cream. We were so full but it was too tasty to waste! All of us loved the food and it was great value. The service was incredibly quick and efficient with really pleasant staff, well done!

Had a lovely meal with my husband at the Lord Nelson Inn tonight. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and a tasty, hearty meal, all washed down with some lovely beer. Felt relaxed and comfortable and spoilt.

What an absolutely lovely place and a treat! The food was so tasty especially For a busy day like Mother’s Day ! There were 13 of us and each and everyone loved it ! So Cosy and homely were already planning on going back !

Found this little place to eat by pure accident, as we were strangers to the village, and stopped and thought we'd give it a try,,..... which incidentally turned out to be a good move! There was a lovely old fashioned (in a good way) atmosphere about this lovely pub/restaurant, which had a lovely warm very welcoming fire roaring away! We found the staff to be extremely welcoming and friendly, and as we later found out so were the other customers! The meal was served promptly (with a ready smile), which was extremely enjoyable. Definetly worth a return visit when we are back this way..... Thank you Lord Nelson for a lovely evening out with a great atmosphere!

Beautiful food, everybody was happy with all their meals especially the steak pie which is one of the chef's signature dishes. Will definitely be going back for more. Atmosphere friendly and family friendly too.

I visit the Lord Nelson at least once a week. And never have I met a better crowd, staff and locals alike. Everyone is friendly and kind, and always game for a good laugh. There's a fantastic quiz every Sunday night, where the proceeds going...

Went out for my mum's birthday dinner with family.. we all went to order a starter and the young girl said we are not doing starters cause it was busy which it wasn't busy in there.. their was four tables that had eaten. What restaurant...

I've often driven past this establishment as it's in a great location in the middle of the village. It's a focal point for the village as it sits next to the cenotaph and sits more or less next door to the revamped handball court.

Came across this little pub just by accident. Doing the taxi run for my daughter and living out of the area looked for a place to eat and wait for her call. The food was fabulous and if you're really lucky you get to hear some great acoustics ( every 3rd thurs in the month we were told). Would definitely visit again

Have eaten here several times a year over the last 5 or 6 years. It's always been abit hit and miss. Sometimes the food is good and sometimes it's average. Today six of us went for lunch. We were the only ones eating and although our order was fairly straightforward we waited well over half an hour for our food to come out. Two of our mains were cold so had to be sent back to be reheated. My meal, chicken in lemongrass and coconut was OK but nothing special. Others had meals from the starter menu or snack menu. Three decided to have coffee. Teaspoons and sugar sachets just placed on corner of the table then three cups of coffee brought over with no saucers! A nice cosy fire wouldn't have gone amiss today either, began to feel cold after sitting around for two hours.

Never disappointed, we have been here many times with friends and family, form Sunday lunch to a special valentines evening menu.

I have lived in Nelson for the last 3 years and this, by far, is my favourite pub (that's quite a statement considering how many pubs are in this small village!). It's very old fashioned inside, which I love. On a cold winter's night - go sit by the fire. You'll feel cosy, warm and right at home!

We went for lunch in the Lord nelson we ordered 3 scampi's 2fish and 1 gammon we all ordered together 15min later 3 meals came out 15min later another 3 meals came out 2 of the scampi's came out without peas we asked them if we could have some peas the bar women said they have run out of peas....

Las verduras y salsa excelente. La cima de mi lista para comer el domingo y sin duda volveremos y lo recomendaría a amigos y familiares

Que debe figurar entre los pubs más bonitos de la zona. El personal del bar es atento, aunque la rubia son limitados, y no siempre es real. He estado allí muchas veces, y que tiene mejor cerveza. Teníamos un asado los domingos, y el repetir eran excelentes. El ambiente es cálido y acogedor, y no pretencioso. Hay un nuevo jardín, con instalaciones para barbacoas. El servicio es siempre amable y servicial sin fin. No dudaría en plena recomendación.

4 of us had a tasty meal here on Sunday, We like the lunch here, definitely one of the best Sunday lunches around & we've tried a dozen local places. The meat was so tender it just fell apart & that delicious gravy just makes the meal itself. However they need to brush up on some skills & be more aware of a few things. Namely although we'd booked partucialrly requesting a window table (due to my partially blind mother) & a specifically enjoyed vegetarian meal (for my son) we were disappointed to find whoever took our booking had failed to 'book' it their end so (initially) no window table but definitely no preferred vegetarian option for my son (although he said the glamorgan sausages were nice). The the desserts came on plates that were very small tea plates? Entirely no depth & nowhere near large enough to contain the custard or chocolate sauce which ran over the edge of 2 plates, i even saw the waitress licking her hand for the chocolate sauce as she left the table. Finally the ice cream was more ice than cream, clearly it had been left out (possibly) or re frozen at some point after partial thaw which split the ice from the cream. However on complaint it was removed from bill & i was told the offending ice had been thrown out. Shame as otherwise the meal itself was good.

I have been here to eat on more than one occasion and have found the food very good and of good portion size. The menu is quite large so a good variety. I didn't have to wait too long for the food to come out.and when it did it was hot.

Visited 6 weeks ago and was impressed with the hearty Sunday lunch. Real beef, real gravy, lovely veg and plenty of it. Highly recommended.

13 of us went here on Mother's Day, friendly staff and the place was clean , food was fine and beer was great , all well for our family and the children

popped in here quite a few times and always found that the locals were quite friendly and chatty. Not eaten here but have seen people ordering meals.

We were greeted warmly and were served quickly. Meals ordered were steak and sweet chilli chicken. I ordered the steak medium to well done but it was more like rare to medium. It was slightly chewy but tasted lovely, so I didn't complain. The chips, side salad and garlic bread were lovely. Sweet chilli chicken was nice but not anything special. All in all a nice meal and lovely service.

First visit to this vintage pub today for Sunday lunch. Absolutely beautiful food. Vegetables cooked to perfection, meat so tender it fell apart. Staff were very friendly and asked us if we wanted any more potatoes, veg & gravy to go with the plenty we already had. Lovely old fashioned proper pub, can't wait to return! :)

Ein tolles Mittagsessen in einer sehr gemütlichen Atmosphäre. Gepflegt und makellos sauber, wir haben nicht lange auf das Essen gewartet. Die Köchin selbst hat die Bestellung aufgenommen. Uns gefällt dieser Pub weil es dort kein lautes Musik läuft und weil es eine entspannte Atmosphäre ist.

Awfiull waited ages lasagna tasteless so expensive was all just cheese my husband had curry was awful chips were on plate curry then all over top so if you not like curry you could not see chips was awful presentation . Need yo present food better also garlic bread was placed on top of my lasagna and prices were above board was £10 for lasagna awful rip off

A very tasty, good value for money meal in cosy surroundings. Will be happy to go back. Wasn't asked if we'd like dessert so didn't bother. Service was okay, not brilliant.

Very shocked and surprised at the previous review as my wife and I were there that day. Knowing that they would be busy on this special day we had booked a table to ensure that we could have a meal there. The staff were very attentive, the food was presented very nice, the cooking and taste top quality. If we wanted microwave style quick meals instead of the home cooked meals all cooked on the premises we would not have come here, For home cooked meals a little patience is always required, well done The Lord Nelson

We went for sunday lunch... after a remembrance service... waited about 45mins before they took our order.. then when we finally had a starter which was paté they don't give you a crusty roll when I asked for butter they said they've run out of butter.... I ordered pork and said have they got crackling she said yes enough for 1 portion and said I could have it when my dinner come out and didn't have crackling so I said could I please have beef instead... when the veg come out we didn't have carrots we had to ask for them 10mins later when we nearly finished our meal the carrots come out....

I was in the area on business and had to waste a bit of time so I popped here for some food.I got there early so we were the only customers in there. Ordered to meals for £10 and they even gave us an extra bowl of chips for free, that little gesture went a long way for me. Food also tasted lovely - We had the fish and chips, and the faggots and peasI would definitely recommend this place

My partner and I decided to give this place a try one weekend as I didn't feel like cooking!! I would recommend booking since the place became very busy soon after we arrived. There was the usual choice of pub-meals on the menu, all of which were reasonably priced. My partner had a mixed grill and I ordered surf & turf, requesting jacket potato rather than chips as stated on the menu. A minute or so after ordering the staff were highly apologetic because they had no jacket potatoes left, having had a rush on them at lunchtime. Not a problem so I had new potatoes. The chef actually offered to send someone out to buy me a jacket potato!! Of course I said no. We were advised the meals would be at least twenty minutes because of cooking the potatoes and were kept informed of the progress of our food. When the meals were brought out, they said we would not be charged for our garlic bread because I couldn't have my jacket potato (we insisted on paying)!! As for the food, the portions were huge! The steak with the surf and turf would have been enough on it's own without the scampi, of which there were plenty. The steak was very tender and cooked exactly as I ordered. My partner was very impressed with his mixed grill and said that there was a good selection of meats, all of which were tender and flavoursome. The cheesy garlic bread was very tasty also.The slight disorganisation at the start just made the meal all the more enjoyable! I would definitely recommend this place. We will certainly return.

Very slow to take our order, some 40 minutes. Only about 10 other people dining so no excuses i'm afraid. Whilst our garlic mushroom starters were delicious they were a bit on the cold side. There were no rib eye steaks as they's had a run? Not from where i was sitting. Surely they could have stocked up the day before pretty much knowing how many they could expect in for a Monday (previous day to our visit)? So we had sirloin, to man/woman it was quite dry & not cooked to our liking as we'd asked. The medium rare was more medium whilst the medium was more well done. Best part of the meal, theose home made chips. Pity cos usually the meals are excellent.

Six of us turned up without booking and they still managed to fit us in. There were 3 meats on offer and I had the Pork. It was absolutely beautiful! Home made gravy and LOTS of crackling...The Turkey and Beef my friends had was equally as nice as we all tasted a little of each others. Everything was served at the same time and was piping hot...Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.. there was a lovely polite young man who served us and Zoe came from the kitchen herself to make sure we were all happy with our meals.Lovely seating area for the meal and a lovely beer garden around the side. Will 100% be back so keep up the good work.

Visited after it being recommended by a friend. On arrival seems like a friendly pub! Bar staff happy to help. I ordered beef and my husband ordered pork. When the food come out it looked like something I would throw together for a last minute Sunday dinner, the pork was chops rather than cut from a joint! The beef was so tough I could not cut into it and veg all tasted the same, gravy was to thick and had a strange taste! Really over powering and soon as it was on my dinner it all tasted the same. Left a nasty after taste and didn't bother staying for desert! Service was slow and people had mounted plates on each table and waitress was behind bar on mobile phone rather than collecting any of the plates. Won't be visiting again any time soon!!

Dropped in on the off chance it would be serving food as only 18:30 and glad we did. Wife had a nice steak cooked as she liked, I had a mixed grill, both portions were big and to top it off we ordered a peppercorn sauce which we thought would come in a small pot, how wrong we were, it came in a large gravy boat, enough for both of us and some left over. Good friendly service in a nice relaxing atmosphere, will definitely return again soon.

Lovely pub right in the heart of belson very cosy with working fireplaces i love it here.The meals ate superb value for money ive eaten here on varios occasions and have to say although the meals are always lovely there is a cook here called Zoe and there is definitely something extra when she cooks her peppercorn sauce is stunning never tasted anything like it keep it up and will be back soon

Great place where the family had Sunday lunch for Father's Day. & adults had between them 7 mains, 4 starters & 6 drinks amounting to £75. Very good value especially as there was plenty to eat & more if required. 1 portion of boiled potatoes was hard/undercooked. The beef was absolutely superb, so tender & 1 or 2 portions looked more like steaks than slices of beef.Dessert was a bit lacking, despite them being delicious, in that 1 was served then a few minutes later another but 2 seemed to have got lost & i had to ask where they were. Lovely people waiting & bar staff. Happy to recommend for a Sunday lunch for sure.

I was driving round the South Wales region to find a nice little pub which wasn't part of a big chain and found the Lord Nelson. Driving past it looked like a very homely pub. I went in to find very reasonable prices and the best pint I've had in a long time. It was my first visit but definitely will not be my last.

Great little pub for meal & a drink. Wiil definitely go again to try their beef stroganoff. Wife had rib eye, large meal of chips, steak, peas slad, mushrooms & peas nicely added to by a peppercorn sauce that my wife said was the best she'd ever tasted & believe that is praise indeed! I don't like peppercorn sauce but i have to say i tasted it, it was thick & creamy & very tasty. I had surf/turg again with rib eye (anywhere else you'll get rump!) & it to was delicious. I topped it off with garlic sauce, though this was a bit too runny especially compared to the peppercorn sauce. The chips were clearly home made but a few were not too good as they were 'bruised'. However overall it was a fab meal so 2 very big mains, 2 sauces, 3 pints & a coke came to just short of £41 & i'd say was worth every penny. Not a 5 score just due to some not too nice chips & that thin sauce & oh & that damn fly that was pestering us. Staff were very polite & attentive but not overbearing, some good ale to be had here too. Comfy & roomy place to eat. Can't wait to try that stroganoff! Sunday lunch will be booked there too very soon.

Wir waren hier am Weihnachten. Es gab eine tolle weihnachtliche Stimmung mit einem großen geschmückten Baum und viel Kerzenlicht. Das Essen ist nicht am jeden Tag gleich gut, wir haben schon auch ein sehr fettes Essen bekommen und mussten zurückgeben. Doch am Weihnachten gab es Entenbrust in Orangen Soße und Desert war auch sehr gut.

We just stopped in at The Lord Nelson and we had a blast! The food is simple - I had fish and chips, he had the Celtic Pride steak sizzler - but so very well cooked. Seriously tasty peas and onion rings! Seems like a basic thing, but seriously not enjoyed peas and onion rings like it ever before! On top of that was the amazingly friendly service from Judy behind the bar and Marie the chef. What a double act! Haven't laughed so much in ages, you made our Saturday ladies. Thank you

Sunday lunch with the family was amazing , tender beef and all homecooked not frozen veg just like gradma makes . Service was great and food beautifully presented. 5 star experience and staff.

What can I say other than we had a fab night at the Lord Nelson Inn. The bar staff was amazing . So was the waitress and the food was amazing.Nothing was too much trouble and we all went home with full bellies and smiley faces.Well worth a visit

Three of us arrived for a catch up beer and a meal (thursday evening). There was a birthday party booked in front of us. We waited an hour and a half for our meals. The food was ok but a lack of cutlery, tables not being cleared (we did some of it) and general poor service let the evening down.We were offered a free desert as an apology. If anyone from the pub management gets to read this, this area of service should be a concern to you as it isn't the first time it has been commented on.I would try the location one more time in case it was a "busy night"

A very warm, friendly and homely atmosphere met with delicious homemade food!!! Can't wait to return here!!!

Great little pub with lots of character!! Prices are very reasonable and the food is fab as well! Minor improvements but nothing to be fussy about! Would recommend
