Long Kings in Scarborough

Have used this Chinese for many years and must say it’s food never disappoints 👍🏻👍🏻 My husband is from Wakefield and has many Chinese restaurants but he says none are as good as longkings

What a horrible place the boss talking down to young girl waiters.and the food unbelievable. Crispy duck with no crispy all the best bit missing.£9.00 pounds each dish on a small plate 4prawns in total.not worth the money you need 4plates to make a meal . Not value for the money

We called here for an evening meal and enjoyed our meal, served by two young lads who were attentive and polite. Reasonably priced meal in a nice but tired setting.

Been a number of times to this lovely Chinese, as both sit in and takeaway. Food is well cooked, lots of choice and service good. Will definitely go back.

Went for a takeaway meal with the family and the staff were polite until I had to return a dish which looked a mess and enough to feed a 2 year old . When I asked to have it replaced I got back chat so asked for my money back. So I won’t be going there again terrible customer service in every way possible. Needs a shake up inside. Terrible!! Rest of the food was also very greasy and terribly bland STAY WELL CLEAR !!!!!!!!!

Called in for a takeaway and wish we hadn’t, the food was very bland and tasteless it was awful! I would not recommend this takeaway

At first the lady took our order and seemed very nice .We ordered Kung Po Chicken and Crispy Duck in a Plum sauce with fried rice .When it came it looked ok then we tasted the Chicken dish , it was hot spicey and it stank the chicken smelt and tasted rancid .So we called the lady over and she then started arguing then a young lad who may have been her son started shouting and going berserk over the Chicken dish saying its ok , its the chilli powder !. So we left All the Food after an argument Paid the full price of £24.60 , both the mother ? and her son ? did not want to know or sort the rotten food complaint . Please don't bother because for £24 .60 there are some wonderful places in Whitby to eat that will be only to happy to serve and feed you ,tasty fresh food , with a smile .

Chosen because it has a great seafront view and was very handy for my hotel. It’s quite a sizeable place with decor that is quite old fashioned by today’s standards.I ordered crispy aromatic duck to start which I suspect had been pre prepared some time considerably earlier. It was neither crispy nor aromatic and was disappointing.My main was sweet and sour crispy prawn balls. The prawn element was fine however the sauce was lacking any depth and was far from freshly prepared with no fruit or vegetable content.I am not a particularly fussy eater but my overall feeling about this meal was one of disappointment.What a shame for the location is great and the staff were attentive and pleasant. I probably won’t revisit.

Fabulous food, excellent service and very reasonably priced. We sat in the conservatory which has a superb view of the sea. Definitely worth a visit.

We have eaten here befor and the food was okay. This evening we took the gran kids for their 1st Chinese.

Just don't do it... very poor quality and expensive. If you want fine cuisine can I suggest going to M&S; and buying a cook at home chinese.

We visited while away with 2 grandchildren it is probably the worst place I have ever been to greasey starters had to ask for cutlery.

We went on a cold Tuesday night so didn’t expect it to be buzzing. The restaurant is in part of an old hotel in a very dated high ceilinged room. The whole room was deadly quiet, only 1 other couple in. No music playing, no atmosphere at all, it was dreary. But on the plus side the food was very good and the waiter was execellant. A very strange place altogether.

Why do Chinese takeaways and restaurants anglicise the food adding gloopy, sweet sauces and frying things in thick batter. It's not very pleasant and we won't be back. Add a few authentic dishes to your menu and if they don't sell, take them off.

We went for a meal , the food was fresh and very hot, we had a starter the pastry was very fresh and crunchy . The spring rolls were lovely.we crispy fried beef ,it was a little over cooked but tasted nice. Also beef with cashew nuts, it wasn’t the best beef but tasted nice. If your at that end of town and want a Chinese it’s well worth a visit.

We always visit this place when we holiday in Whitby and the food is always very good. We must have been eating here about 11 years. We have never had a complaint regarding food or service. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Superb views from a very tired restaurant badly in need of decoration.

Four of us visited on a weekday evening. We had a selection of starters and main dishes, and almost all were extremely good. Very tasty, well cooked, and not at all greasy.

We ordered a takeaway from this restaurant whilst on holiday in Whitby. The order was ready in 15 minutes, the food was lovely and large portions. We would definitely eat from there again.

We were stopping above in an apartment went down for some tea to takeaway one of us was gluten free very helpful guy advised which they could do we only here a week and went 2 times all enjoyed plenty to eat and nice to pop next door to the pub for a pint while u wait well done

Lovely meal on the 21st August. Recommended too us by a number of people. We were not disappointed. Service was excellent. Food was gorgeous.

We returned after 10 years or more, and found the service quick and friendly. The menu is extensive a d all four meals were good. The only negative is the tired decor. We will return again.

I have just realised there are 2 Long Kings in Whitby and I have reviewed and done an injustice to the wrong one. This West Cliff one is the restaurant I want to comment on. Veg Spring Rolls were delicious but the main chicken cantonese style wa disgusting in that it had no chicken whatsoever inside the deep fried batter. On complaining the server made no comment whatsoever and returned with the bill, still without opening his mouth to even apologise. We wondered if we would have been within our rights to withhold some of the payment but decided to just give a bad review instead and never grace its doors again. Last year we were pleased with this restaurant, thus the reason for our return. I wonder whether it has new owners as it is now called New Long Kings, not Long Kings as stated above.

We visited this restaurant and were very pleased with the food and the service. Tom was our Waiter who was very attentive and helpful he sat us at the best table in the house looking out too sea.

Poor quality , empty and in need of a refurb. Had visited some years ago and it seems it has gone down hill from then. Chech their food hygiene rating too.

We went as it was close to our holiday, were treated attentively we were the only ones eating plenty of take out going out my husband had duck I had the beef nice atmosphere worth a visit if your in area £32 for coke 2 mains fried rice and plain rice and two ice creams .

Visited here for dinner on a weeknight when staying in Whitby this week. We were the only table eating in but quite a few people came by to pick up takeaways whilst we were there. The waiter was very attentive and friendly and explained things on the menu for us. Our food arrived very quickly and was very tasty! Portion sizes seemed a bit on the small side but we ended up feeling very full and satisfied! Cost £33 for 2 adults and a 16month old sharing a few meals and sides/starters which felt reasonable!

Our first visit and won’t be our last. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The service was quick and served with a smile. The portions were more than ample and tasty. Would highly recommend

We walked along the West Cliffs on Friday evening, we came across a Chinese Restaurant we went in and were shown to a table, they were a few other guests in eating meals It was lovely food and the staff were lovely and friendly

The staff were really helpful and welcoming. The food was really nice with good portions. They also do takeaway which is really good value and very tasty.

Paid a visit here on a tues night , excellent food and big portions, staff friendly and good value for money , next time in whitby we will go again .

Stayed close by so tried it on the sat night not booked but staff found us a table on a a busy night. we decided to have the set meal for 2 as was surprised the quality was very good.The staff were rushed of there feet but gave us great service well done.

We had a two person banquet in this Chinese Restaurant and enjoyed the food, wine and ambience of the place. It is on the front of West Cliff with views out to sea. Lots of attentive staff on hand and a large car park in front. We were amazed by the amount of people who were using this place for take-aways, having sampled the meals, we can obviously understand why.

To be honest I cannot add to the many reviews which point out the problems here. My wife wanted to try Chinese food, and as we came to Whitby at short notice and Long King was near to our hotel so we decided to give it the benefit of doubt. So as I say I will summerise only.Tiny portions of poor quality, poorly presented food, served by un-uniformed local girls who looked as if they would rather be somewhere else, in a tired looking poorly furnished room.

Although I enjoyed my meal, I could not say anything other than it was average. Service was good but for a Sunday evening, it was practically deserted. That said, it is about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Whitby.

Walked in At 10 15 pm and we were escorted to our table straight away by a very nice lady who was charming and friendly and very attentive to us. The food was excellent and not expensive .. we will come back again the next time we visit Whitby.

We decided to book a meal , we went to early but this was no problem . The staff are very young, but seemed to manage ok . The food was nice , but the place could do with a update , it looks very tierd. Only complaint was the beef had bits of grissel but this seems common of every Chinese . We will visit again .

Been lots of time before and never had a bad meal.However a group of us ordered a take away the other night and it was awful.Greasy and tasteless.I will not go again. 7 adults ordered and not one meal was good.

Went there for a takeaway. There were 2 young children working behind the counter. Had a chicken curry which was very watery, more like a thick soup. Husband had chicken Szechuan which was also pretty poor. Chicken in both was horrible. Egg fried rice and chips were ok but can't really go wrong with those dishes. Wouldn't go there again. On menu curries described as red or green which is confusing as thats what Thai curries are called, not Chinese. I had the red one.

Go here a lot and must say the curry and the special fried rice isn't the best how ever the rest of the food is nice crispy duck in bbq sauce is the best I have had and chicken Kong po is out standing. The service can be slow for drinks but the staff is very nice.The views are outstanding looking out to sea. The restaurant isn't very nice very dated can be cold. But it's fresh, clean and welcoming after all its good food that you want to buy not new tables and carpet and there is only so much you can do with old buildings.There is a small free car park for customers.Families welcome not sure about dogs.Will be returning soon. Highly recommend.

Had a takeaway one evening and not impressed. The food did not seem properly cooked and the hotter dishes had not cooked out the flavouring. Not to be repeated.

Called in for dinner,never been before but wouldn't go back. Place appeared shabby but staff friendly enough. Ordered food which arrived so quickly it must have been preprepared as no way could it have been freshly cooked in the time it took to serve. In all honesty have had much better takeaways. I don't expect takeaway style food when paying for restaurant service. It appeared quite popular so maybe we're just spoiled for quality at home.

We often go here, its become one of our favourites since moving to Whitby. Love the dumplings! Great friendly and attentive service. Havent had a bad experience or meal yet. Reasonably priced too. Great location and views with free and easy parking. Only negative is the decor which is a bit dated. Give it a try.

Usually had a take away when in self catering but went in the restaurant while staying in a guest house, food was of the usual high standard! Very friendly staff, lovely sea views from your seat!

Popped in before the Whitby Town v Darlington game. Was early just after 1800. Was quite impressed. Great food. Service was excellent. Time from order to table approx 10 minutes. Would definitely use again.

We are locals and always choose to come here for our Chinese be it take away or eat in. The decour could do with updating but this doesn't detract from the food. Always helpful and friendly staff and the food is generally cooked super fast.

It was Easter Saturday so four of us went in early in anticipation of getting decent service, how wrong where we! we had half a duck for starters that was ok then came the worst part the waitress came and said would you like your coffee, we told her we had not had the mains yet. Now we had to wait a long time before the mains started to arrive first came a portion of chips and rice then another 20 minutes before the mains by this time the chips where stone cold we asked them too be warmed up and the reply was we can put them in the microwave. we did not eat anything the bill came to £103. never again will I go back to this Chinese again, even though we live in Whitby and we have been many times before. People on the next table where also complaining.

Given a table in the window were it was cold with no heating on. Radiator was turned on when we said we were cold but this was insufficient to make any difference by the time we left.Menu was badly written in poor English and limited choices not well set out.Food was edible but not of a standard any higher than your get in an all you can eat buffet. The only high standard was the price.

My wife & I visited The Long Kings recently during a 4 night visit to the wonderful town of Whitby. A decent sized restaurant with substantial menu at reasonable prices. My only concern is do they use real fresh chicken in their dishes? It seems a bit reconstituted in texture so will stick to beef or King Prawns in future. Enjoyed the most of it though.

First night stay in Whitby and wanted something nearby to eat.Called in as it was virtually empty. Food was nothing exceptional for the price would probably saved 50% having a takeaway, staff were friendly and efficient. The only real down side was everything was very worn from carpets to seating making you wonder what the kitchen was like.

We had takeaway from here last Friday.Despite the guy at the counter who took our order, reading it the correct order out as confirmation, there was an ingredient missing from our meal. Unfortunately the food itself was pretty tasteless. A waste of money.A shame, as the place has great views if you wanted to eat in. The staff were also very polite and friendly.

We visited and had a set menu meal for two.The food was nice and enjoyable.It was similar to many such restuarants were we live.The lady serving was pleasant and it made a change.The take away service was much busier than the sit down restuarant obviously popular with locals for take always.

I ordered a takeaway earlier this evening, I got the 1/2 a crispy duck and once I'd made my second wrap and took a bite I ended up slightly choking on this bone. I phone up as soon as I was able to and they said please return it, so I did and received full refund for this meal and my other halfs. The women couldn't apologies enough but I thought it was still unacceptable as I work within the restaurant/food industry myself. Watch out

Been here a few times as it's our local Chinese restaurant. We had previously only had take away so thought we would sit in as the location means it has fab views of the sea and sunsets. Food was very good. We had the set meal for two which was about £17ish per person. The food just kept coming and we were so full we had to take some home. The nicest part was the sizzling beef which was so tender and great flavour. I have had it since and it wasn't as tender but still nice. Service is ok, drinks are fairly cheap and you get to see the sea! Great for a quick meal when you fancy something other than fish and chips!

We had the Special Banquet. First few courses (starters and duck pancakes) were great but the final dishes were very disappointing, the ribs tasted of nothing much, and my king prawns were equally tasteless. The overall impression was of too much sweetness. To be fair, tons of food so go for the banquet if you are really hungry. All in all, disappointing. I think we'll try a takeaway next time.

We visited the restaurant whilst on a short break to Whitby and were recommended it by the people who owned the B&B we stayed at. Admittedly, they said they usually get take away from them, however we decided to give it a go.The decor of the place leaves a lot to be desired, it feels like being cast back to 1970. We were met by a man who seemed to begrudgingly show us to a table, right in the corner of the restaurant, crammed in, when there were other tables empty. Not wanting to rock the boat, we sat there and after a while were brought prawn crackers and sauce. These were nice. After a short while we had our drinks order taken and when we were brought them, they were wrong - we ended up with the next table's drinks order. We ordered our food, and our appetisers to share and this seemed to take forever to arrive. The hors d'oevres sharing platter wasn't too bad, but very small for the almost £10 price tag. We finished this, and again waited ages for our main course, which was eventually brought out, one plate at a time. At that time I ordered another drink. I ordered beef & oyster sauce, my husband ordered squid chop suey and we shared a portion of boiled rice. My food was OK, although a bit disappointing with the veg used - carrot & onion were the predominant ones, with a few mushrooms thrown in. My husband's food on the other hand was overcooked, bland, tasteless and all one colour. He couldn't eat it, and I tried it and also couldn't eat it. By this time I still hadn't got my other drink and couldn't catch anyone's attention to complain, so we headed towards the counter where we met a very helpful waitress who helped us out. Credit to the restaurant, they knocked off the price of my husband's meal and apologised, but it certainly spoiled our evening. Furthermore, my food revisited me today. All in all, not a good experience.

we had a meal here whilst staying in Whitby. Food and prices were good, but the service was like something out of Fawlty Towers. The staff were very disorganised and nobody seemed to know what was going on. Would try here again just because the food is so good.

We were a party of 14 and had booked in advance but the restaurant struggled to cope - theydidnt check that they had taken everyone's order (they hadnt). Some of us had a starter, but the starters arrived in 3 separate batches, several minutes apart, and staffhad to be reminded that 2 starters hadnt arrived. Then there was along wait for main courses, it was over 90 minutes from our arrival until the main courses arrived. The food was generally good, althoughone of the group said the mixed vegetables with beansprouts was tasteless, but again it took a long time for everyone to be served. Finally, once backhome I checked the bill and found we had been charged twice for one starter. The excuse given for theslow service was that they were very busy - not all the tables were full but they shpuld be able to cope if it is busy.

We have used Long King for a number of year for takeaways only after a couple of poor meals in the resturant on friday night at 9 ish we thought lets just have a meal in the resturant well done the food in the resturant

Turned up late about 9.30 only 1 couple in and thought the worst. Room looked old but when food came out was surprised some of the best food I have had would recommend highly will return.

I think the view has to drag this place up from average to very good. Must be one of the best views from a Chinese restaurant in England. That said, the restaurant itself was a little eerie due to its size: I don't know what this building was previously, but I doubt it was a Chinese restaurant. With the kids on iPads, it felt more like someone's home, but I strangely didn't mind that; we were with our kids, there were other kids in the restaurant, and the Chinese lady who served us was just really nice with us. We aren't connoisseurs of Chinese food, but thoroughly enjoyed our take away style food which, in truth, was exactly what we were looking for after a day on the beach. Happy campers.

Four of us visited this Chinese Restaurant on Saturday 7th June and had a lovely meal. The staff were very obliging and we enjoyed the views out over the bay of Whitby. we shall go again.

we have been to long kings on numerous occasions , both sit in and take away , meals are always a good standard and portions ample , service is quick and courteous , nothing seams a problem for the staff , the sweet and sour chicken balls and egg fried rice are always a very good portion , drinks are not too expensive , no need to book if going before 19:00 , well worth a visit

This restaurant has the most beautiful setting, overlooking the sea, ideal for a cosy meal for two, However the mood was somewhat spoilt be the fact that as we arrived two members of staff appeared to be having a row and were shouting at each other across the restaurant! As we ordered our drinks the owners two children were wandering abou,t both with IPads with games playing loudly. Later they sat with some guests at a table next to ours, one still with his ipad game drowning out our conversation.We have eaten here before and had enjoyed it but we did not feel the food was as good as it had been and certainly the atmosphere was not condusive to the peaceful evening meal we had been looking forward to.

We tried a takeaway from Long Kings, as we had heard positive things about this establishment. We were not disappointed.The food was excellent, the staff courteous and very efficient. Although we collected a takeaway, the food was hot when we got home.The only negative point is that they do not provide a delivery service. Would definately reccomend.

We've not eaten in at the Long Kings but we regularly have a takeaway when we visit Whitby, and we've not had a bad meal. The food is consistently good, and the portions are generous. The Cantonese spring rolls starter are excellent, and this time I had some crispy seaweed which I'd not had before - it was great, so will definitely be having that again. Would thoroughly recommend.

Midweek in October must be quiet as we had the place nearly to ourselves, however the takeaway side was very busy all nightThe food was excellent and hot and came in generous portionsWe had a set meal for 2 and it could have fed 3 or 4 easily ,for 2 of us it was a challenge, but they offered to wrap it all up to take with us when we left, but we declinedThe decor is a bit dated, but clean and the service was goodThe view over the top of the cliff and across the sea to Kettleness is absolutely superb thoughAll in all a great chinese

We visited Long Kings Chinese restaurant on a recent trip to Whitby and I can honestly say it was one of the nicest Chinese restaurants we have visited. If you enjoy Chinese food and you are in Whitby I would definitely recommend this as a must to eat in. The restaurant itself is in need of a little updating ,however if you can see past this you will not be disappointed.

needing a quick take away for the family we phoned Long Kings and ordered several different meals. They were prepared quickly and the cost was very reasonable. We all enjoyed our meals and had left overs as the portions were a good size. Have eaten once previously at the restaurant which was good but this was the first take away and wont be the last

Service excellent, speedy and staff friendly. Food excellent. The restaurant overlooks the seafront on the west cliff, lovely outlook.

Have visited Long Kings twice a year for some time and have been very satisfied with the food and VFM. However, the most recent visit with my family last week was disastrous - we had a banquet and the soup (chicken and sweet corn) was mainly sweet corn but my grandson found a piece of chicken in his bowl! The next course of assorted starters was not good mainly because the ribs had a very strange smell. The crispy duck arrived ready shredded and was cold. Before we could begin eating the duck and pancakes, it was removed from the table and replaced by a larger portion. This was the first time we have ever left crispy duck. The mains were very average with the beef dish proving to be very tough. The saving 'grace' was the lemon chicken which was very nice. The wine list is very average and expensive for what it is. We shall not be returning.

While visiting we took some of the family from teenages to elderly and all had a good meal and an enjoyable evening. Varied menu but like most Chinese restaurants items are ordered individually which add up by the end of the night. We had a large spacious table by the window so had lovely views. All round would recommend if you like Chinese, nothing really different to most others but certainly nothing to complain about.

went in looked at menu reasonable prices, but then we decided to eat in the restaurant instead of take out, and what should of only been a £15-18 bill turned out to be £32 as they charged more to eat in,, example battered chicken balls with sweet n sour sauce was £4.70 to take out (no chips or rice included ) or it turned out to be £8 eat in , then £1.40 for fries to take out turned out to be £2.50 eat in,, so it cost for 2 people to eat in an unexpected atleast £12 extra on the bill, wasnt happy, but the food was ok, wife food hair in her orange chicken which then put us off

This is the first time I've eaten in this restaurant as I've usually got take away from here instead of eating in. It's great food for the price and I don't know why anyone complains as you pay for what you get! Lovely food. I would expect no more for the price.

Both my wife and I enjoy Chinese meals out until today. Before entering, we looked at the menu and noted that it was a little more expensive than the average but that encouraged us to go in as it indicated a good standard of food!Ouch!! The carpets at the entrance were dirty and worn (another good sign of a well frequented high class food outlet?). Not on your life, the carpet was a warning of the standard of the rest of the restaurant and the poor quality of the luke warm food. Seriously, do yourselves a favour and give this awful place a miss!
