Lings on Kings in Sefton

We went for a walk around Southport and decided to give Lings on Kings a try for the first time and have to say we're very impressed! Service was excellent, lovely little restaurant downstairs with great vegan options. This was the first time I can remember having to get the remaining food bagged up to take home. Portion sizes are massive! We had the sweetcorn soup for starters, veg spring rolls, deep fried mushrooms, seaweed, salt & pepper chips, mushrooms in black bean sauce & vegetables in curry sauce! We had a good chat with one of the waiters who told us upstairs has karaoke on the weekend upstairs.All in all a very pleasant evening! I'd strongly recommend this place and look forward to going back soon! Here's a few pictures of this evening's food!

Really very disappointed having read some good reviews about this restaurant. Crispy duck and pancakes wasn’t bad, but was obviously not freshly cooked. The beef and black bean sauce dish too much garlic, and the sweet and sour chicken a very odd , unnatural red colour.. Perhaps we were too early in the evening, even the fried rice didn’t seem freshly cooked.

Returned to Lings and was once again welcomed back with a big smile. We took our friends and son and had fabulous food. Our friends could not believe how much food we had for the price. They had visited Lings four years ago when they visited us and asked to go back. We have travelled all over the world and can honestly say that the food here is brilliant. There may be other "posher" Chinese restuarants in the area but you won't get such good value and food anywhere. We have celebrated several notable birthday here and she always makes them special and fun. Can't wait for the next get together.

Ordered food from here for delivery. It was so delicious 🤤 I got the fried tofu with salt and pepper chips... cannot recommended enough!!! Will definitely be back.

Just received our take away and put 3/4 of it in the bin clearly cooked in old oil burnt and just vile will not be recommending this restaurant at all. Extremely poor quality food.

I have eaten at Lings multiple times over the years and it was truly a favourite in our family. As it was my mother’s birthday we decided to go as a lockdown treat. The person who took my order over the phone struggled to understand my order and actually asked me if some of items I ordered were on the menu! I asked them to confirm the order on the phone due to the miscommunication which they did and was correct. When we got home (which took us 10 minutes in the car) there were multiple items missing and some of the sauces for some dishes had the consistency of water! When we called to speak to restaurant regarding the missing items and poor quality of food we were met with rudeness and condescending behaviour. I work in customer service and I’d truly never treat an unhappy customer the way the restaurant did. They claimed we never ordered the items we were missing, because of our 10 minute drive thats why the sauce had the consistency of water (like magic) and because it is a take away the food is not as good in quality (why charge restaurant prices for it then?). Ling actually got on the phone and hung up on us and offered no solution. I guess they don’t care anymore about the quality of food and customer service. Judging by the other one star reviews I’ve seen this is a restaurant I’ll never be going back to and would suggest if you’re in Southport to not go to either. Wouldn’t feed my dog it.

Ordered a takeaway for collection. Not only was the order was wrong, but the food was probably one of the worst we had ever tasted. The sauces were watery and the meat over cooked. The spring roles were also falling apart. You could tell it was cooked in grease. But that’s not the worst part - when we called to complain, Ling, the owner, started to argue with us and basically said because we lived 20 minutes away, the food become cold and therefore became poor quality. Obsolute nonsense.!! Ling then proceeded to argue and hung up on us because she was “busy”. The treatment from the owner was appalling and we will never be going back. I would couldn’t stress enough to avoid this place.

My son ordered take away for me for a treat today. Sadly it was probably the most revolting Chinese meal I've ever had and I've eaten at some of the best (and worst) Chinese restaurants in London and the surrounding area. The won-tons were more like prawn sausages, soggy in the middle with crispy ends, the prawn toasts tasted more of spring onion than prawn and the pork in the sweet and sour was soggy. To say I was disappointed and distressed on behalf of my son is an understatement.

Ordered take away after being recommended ,but food was disgusting ,ordered prawn toast which was basically thin greasy bread no sign of prawn , phoned to complain which I just don’t do normally , but the lady did not want to know and put the phone down on me ! avoid at all cost !

Got a takeaway from Lings on Kings tonight. Food hot and delivered on time. Highly recommended. THANKS LING AND YOUR TEAM. Amazing as always. Cant wait for our next time.

Overcooked rock hard ribs, greasy spring rolls, food tasted greasy and horrible. Sizzling beef had the top of leeks as veg. Left our mains. Disappointed considering the other reviews.

Got a takeaway for Xmas eve very disappointed, not enjoyable at all. Ribs tough and dry, mains not much better. Only thing half good was the duck, not worth £37 for 2 people. Not again.

Visited for the first time since Lockdown 2 ended. We ordered the Christmas Banquet and found the food excellent, well presented with generous portion sizes. Service was professional and friendly. Covid safe, the restaurant was lacking only customers as the usual busy, bustling pre-Christmas parties were missing so the room was rather quiet. A steady flow of takeaways were heading out of the door so it appears a lot of people are enjoying Ling's menus in the comfort of their own homes.

Went here last night with the family omg what a gem this place is,the waitress on arrival is so polite I think her name is angelina nothing was to much trouble for her and the owner ling it so so nice she is so accommodating we had a banquet and so glad we did so for the starter of soup and crackers we just knew how nice it was going to be as these were delicious,then we had the yummiest ribs honestly they were lovely with spring rolls,crispy seaweed and prawn toast,the wife said they were the best spring rolls she’s ever had,the kids agreed,the out come crispy duck which was to die for I only had 2 as the kids and wife demolished them then shezhen beef,sweet and sour chicken,salt and pepper chicken,chicken curry with egg fried rice and mixed veg then banana fritters,it’s our new place to go I would recommend to anyone to give it a try, lings food is stunning,delicious Thankyou ling and staff you were just brilliant xxxxxxxJohn and the family

came with the lads for nice meal, waited 90 mins for food to come out. Food was sub standard I wouldn’t feed it the dog. Extremely over priced

Ordered a banquet for two for delivery. Ended up taking the whole meal back. The duck was cremated couldnt chew it same with the ribs. The egg fried rice was a dish of sloppy mush. The sweet & sour pork the meat was like the cheapest most processed meat you can buy. Vile vile vile. First time there too.... ohh & the last also because I ordered through Just Eat I'm still awaiting refund so that app is getting uninstalled as soon as I get money back. Between lings on kings & Just Eat they ruined my Saturday night.

Absolutely disgusting. Duck was cremated. Spring rolls spicy.no Chinese staff.didnt under our order got wrong food. I had special curry chicken was sour.no apology for complaining. Rice was mushy. Best thing was the chips that's saying something when you go for a Chinese meal.worst food ever.

Friday night and only 4 customers in the restaurant including the 2 of us. Can’t believe all the positive reviews. Seemed only interested in getting take aways out the door. Waiter dressed in T-shirt joggers and trainers totally unhelpful. Chicken curry tasteless though chilli beef better. Bottle of Chardonnay served wasn’t the one on the wine list and waiter no clue as to whether it was the one we ordered.

We went to Lings this evening, we had a lovely meal, and they put an anniversary balloon up and banner blew them. Such gorgeous meal. We couldn’t go in our holiday, and it made up for it going to Lings! Food was delicious and very well cooked. We enjoyed it all, especially the duck and beef. The toffee apple desert is especially nice. Well done, in these times we need something to cheer us up. Very clean and Covid friendly. We will be back, thanks again to you all

We decided to have a takeaway and chose Lings as we had heard recently how fantastic the food was at Lings.We chose to have free delivery rather than collect, they gave a delivery time of 30 minutes and it was delivered within the time given. The spring rolls arrived crisp and hot and the main meals of lemon chicken and duck with pineapple were of excellent quality and the duck was very lean. The egg fried rice dishes were generous portions too.Far better quality than your average takeaway- very impressed!

Excellent food and service. We had banquets and each course was excellent. All staff wore masks all evening and it felt covid secure. We highly recommend.

We were visiting Southport for the weekend and came across this restaurant by chance..(Friday 5th September) They were very welcoming and accommodating even though we hadn’t booked a table and had a large party upstairs. Our food orders were taken and Our drinks arrived quickly. The starters were delicious and generously portioned as were the main meals. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. All in all it was a very good dining experience. The only thing I struggled with was that the ladies toilets are upstairs and it wasn’t easy navigating the stairs and budging my way through the party participants to get there! Will certainly be visiting again.

Rather disappointed with birthday meal Friday 4th September 2020. Service very poor. Ordered a banquet, but main meals didn’t arrive together. Had to ask for missing meals after a good 10 minute wait. Most worryingly was lack of social distancing as a large party was taking place upstairs and to use the toilets we had to go through party revellers. Didn’t feel safe within that environment and won’t be returning again after visiting the restaurant many times over the years. Sorry Ling need to get this sorted.

My partner and I ate here last week on the eat out to help out Government scheme. On arrival we were shown upstairs to our table. I must admit the floor was a bit slippery and I was worried about slipping over. I think something greasy must have been spilt on the floor .We ordered a set meal with chicken and sweet corn soup, ribs, spring rolls, 1 pork, 1 beef and a vegetable dish with boiled rice and a Toffee apple desert. It was an absolutely fantastic meal and there was plenty to put in a doggy bag to take home for my partner to have the next day after work. We would definitely come back and enjoy another meal in the future. The waiters and waitresses were lovely too and very friendly.

Had a banquet here last night, and my husband and i have both raved about it. I think its the tasties chinese we have had. The staff were on the ball, which is always good to see. Would definetly recommend this place

Amazing...... we couldnt believe the portions,they were excellent and full of flavour. Will definately be coming again next time we are in Southport. I am annoyed at myself I didnt take any pictures, wish I could give 6 stars!!!!

Another amazing meal at Lings, restaurant was very busy, the lovely staff working hard, best banquet ever, booked again for Saturday night with 11 of my friends can’t wait xxxxxx

There was no social distancing, the restaurant was packed in. It took an hour to get part of the first course second part never arrived. After another long wait we got the next course and after several requests for water we finally got that. Then we waited and waited for the main course unable to get anyone's attention we decided to leave and pay for what had. I left with a terrible headache as the staff run up and down the uncarpeted stairs with what sounded like heavy boots on! All in all a very bad experience and we won't be returning.

Plenty of choice,pleasent staff,presentation Good,food very nice,could have been hotter,typical Chinese food,prawn crackers,chicken and sweet corn soup,followed by main course served with rice.

I visited here with my partner and children. It had a great atmosphere and the staff , although young , were so hard working and couldn't do enough for us . We sat upstairs . The food was amazing ! Really tasty. There was plenty of it too!Excellent value for money. I would fully recommend a visit here . We will definitely be visiting again or maybe ordering a takeaway . Great place and lovely evening .

As we had booked 3 nights in Southport with our children I booked the lings on Kings over a week before our stay as thought it could possibly be busy due to the help to eat offer. I booked for 6pm as having 2 children we didn't want to eat too late! On arrival apparently they had no details of my booking and was basically told tough!!! This now has caused a problem as everywhere is booked up!!! Won't be returning or recommending, sort out your booking system lings!!!!!!

This place is just AMAZING! The staff were great! Food was more than amazing really nice Restaurant. Very clean and tidy. 10/10 we have even booked to go back!

Great food, super quality. Had to cancel table booking but got takeaway which was lovely. Hope to eat in one evening very soon.

Terrible hygiene, don't know how they get away with it. Our cutlery had crust stuck all over so left soon after before we even ordered our food. Staff didn't seem to be too bothered and looked at us like we're making it up.

Came across this place by accident and very glad we did. The food and service was excellent,I had chilli lamb and egg fried rice,the meat was very tender and the sauce was hot and tasty. My partner who is vegan had tofu with mushroom which she really enjoyed,we also had some Salt and pepper chips to share,don't know what they put on them but they were delicious! Large portions ment that we didn't quite finish all our food but we gave it a good go,would highly recommend.

Went out for a lovely family meal, we got a banquet to share which was delightful and couldn’t be faulted.The issue with our night was with one very rude staff member, a woman who at first was being helpful then became a hindrance to our meal as she wouldn’t leave. She then became incredibly nosey by asking rather personal questions and wouldn’t leave us to eat, by the time she did our food was practically cold. Lovely food but some staff members need to learn when to leave.

Once again another great night at Lings hence why we always keep going back the food is really good the service they cant do enough for you very very good thank you Ling for making a great night on Saturday we were all upstairs cant wait for are next night there

Food very Greasy meat tasted sweaty and curry was like water. First time visit and would not visit again or recommend to anyone

We have heard of here & been past it but always thought from the outside it didn’t look very big, but when we saw that they were on the eat out to help out government thing in Aug where you get 50% off or up to £10 per person off food & non alcoholic drinks on Mon-Wed at participating restaurants we decided to look more closely at its website & reviews. We were surprised by how large it is & pleased with the fab reviews so decided to book for 3rd Aug being the first night. As soon as you went in you see the hand sanitizer facing you (although surprising the number that need telling as I could see from where seated as more people came in!). Anyway the staff were on the ball with straight away telling customers to use the hand sanitizer straight away & one of the group to write their contact information in the book for track & trace purposes. The staff alol had masks on continuously & were good at keeping distance even when serving the food, couldn’t fault this & makes you feel comfortable in the situation now. We were shown to our table & given menus & asked if we required drinks. We just had a jug of water. We chose to have a banquet meal for two at £14.95 per person which consisted of chicken & sweetcorn soup & a basket of prawn crackers, then spare ribs, then spring rolls, then the mains of sizzling beef & sweet & sour chicken & fried rice & a plate of vegetables & finally toffee apple & ice cream. Wow is all you can say. Every item was really delicious & the batter on the sweet & sour chicken was crispy & light as it was on the toffee apple. The ribs were tender & meaty & the soup was soo tasty, even the prawn crackers were light & lovely. Couldn’t fault the food or service. We asked for the bill & it came with the chocolate mints & we noticed the discount wasn’t taken off, so we queried it & thought as it is the first night maybe have forgotten & were told that you had to ask for the discount & was brought a new bill which was 50% off. They claim the other 50% back off the government so they do get their full amount but it is to encourage people to go back to restaurants & particularly on nights when they may normally be quiet. We wouldn’t have gone there on a Monday night & as have never been before then they gained our custom & definitely will be in the future too as really enjoyed the food & the surrounding & the service & will recommend to others & will tell them they are good with COVID things in place which does make a difference for people. There were 2 groups of 6 & about 3 or 4 other couples that we saw come in/were in in the time we were there so whether that is normal for a Monday night or not, I don5 know but would think it going to help them with this scheme & if like us they are new people trying new places while discount on then likely get new regular customers especially if they doing things right which they are. Just remember to ask for your discount if you are there on a Mon, Tues or Wed in Aug.

Visited with friends on a Saturday evening. It was busy with both diners and takeaways. Tables were well spaced and we were upstairs which was handy for the nice clean loo. Good menu and we had a banquet which was way too much food but it was very tasty and thoroughly enjoyed. Felt very safe with staff in masks and respectful of social distancing. Hand sanitiser on entry and also through the restaurant.

OrderedCrispy chilli beef - was really soggy and not crispy in the slightest couldnt eat it.Salt & pepper sui mai - flavour in general was ok but sui mai themselves were soggyHot and sour soup - very vinegary, think it was meant to have meat in it butbibcouldnt find any... shameCrispy duck & pancakes - this was delish!Overall a waste of money for the rest shoild have just got the pancakes.

We ordered a take away from lings came bang on time quoted and food was piping hot and absolutely yummy I had veg hot and sour soup to start favourite anywhere in the UK then my good old salt and pepper mushrooms for my main I had mushroom in black bean sauce and noodles again delicious, the wife had a crispy chilli beef dish which she loved didn't get a picture of the duck and pancakes but it was nice, love it at lings always hits the right spot

Looks like a lot of take outs are just serving up rubbish during lockdown.LINGS DOES THE SAME !!!Hot n sour soup was like warm soy sauce.Sweet and sour chicken plus sweet chilli chicken both vile. The cheapest of nasty ingredients, horrible texture and disgusting taste.AVOID THIS PLACE..... ITS DISGUSTING... NEVER AGAIN

We had a takeaway for my 40th Birthday...it was absolutely amazing. We had a banquet and everything was fresh and plentiful. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be ordering again.

The food was cold when it arrived(late) we had dish missing and when we informed the staff they were rude and unhelpful if u want some advice steer clear of this back street rats cage that has somehow got resturante status. Even my dogs turned their noses up at it absolutely pathetic.

Hi,We ordered from Lings last week for a home delivery, we had a banquet for 2 which was 2 mains plus chicken and sweetcorn soup with prawn crackers, mixed starters ( duck and pancakes, ribs, spring rolls, prawn toast and seaweed ) and a portion of salt and pepper sui mai.The soup was lovely and the duck was one of the best we have had, plenty of meat, the ribs again had plenty of meat on them and the sui mai was seasoned well, our mains were sizzling beef and chicken Beijing style with boiled rice.There was so much we didn’t even get to our mains so we had them the following day all round great food that we will definitely have again.

On Friday 24 April we took delivery of a fabulous takeaway banquet. It arrived on time and a big thank you Ling for all your hard work and kindness to local Hero’s during CORFID19

Fantastic meal, lovely and hot when it arrived, Hot mixed hors d’oeuvres were lovely, extra spring roles and spare ribs ordered. Duck was so juicy and full of flavour. Char su noodles was packed full of flavour and a lovely mix of meat noodles and crunchy veg, lovely meal great staff. We’ll be ordering again very soon

Ordered a takeaway through Just Eats and was really looking forward to it after several satisfying visits to the restaurant, but was left very disappointed. Ordered early as we heard they had been busy and delivery was on time, good start. Crispy Duck starters, plenty of hoi-sin sauce and filling but the duck was overcooked and hard, this made it difficult to shred. Main course - Egg fried rice was more like boiled rice with egg in, the special noodles were soggy and smelt fishy, and finally the sweet & sour chicken, a nice sauce but the batter was floury and soggy.

Ordered a banquet early to arrive at 7.30pm, after waiting 2 hours it eventually arrived. Spoke to the driver who explained it was a prob with just eat, also had a prompt response from the owner after emailing. Food was excellent even after the wait. Would recommend to anyone, although just eat need to sort their end out.

Horrendous meal obviously cuts corners with peoples food to be able to cope with demand in takeaways, food was disgusting greasy as hell and the ribs looked microwaved the king prawns was swimming in grease and the chilli beef was vile greasy and soggy, the chips looked and tasted like warm ups will not use these again or eat in their restaurant.

So disappointed with our food, spent over £50 on a takeaway and every single dish tasted like it had a bag of sugar put into it. We were really looking forward to our meal as we have ate here before a couple of years ago. The salt and pepper chicken was dark brown/black and tasted caramelised!

Fried means deep fried batter surprise nightmare. Dry old chips. Watery sauces in separate tubs. Not cheap either.

Lings on Kings is by far the best Chinese in Southport, food was absolutely incredible and service with a big smile from everybody working there! Highly recommend! :-)

Wow I have just ordered a take away from this Chinese and this is a hidden gem :-) everything was perfect in every way :-). I have to say this is the nicest Chinese I have ever had. Very tasty and the staff are so polite.

Absolute 5 star food and service! Ling is the opitomy of hostess with the mostess and her staff are friendly and attentive. Iv had party’s here over the years and have always been so entertaining with karaoke!

Could easily say this is the best restaurant in Southport. Been coming for years and it’s still just as wonderful. Recently came with my family and the food was delicious from start to finish. The staff and owner couldn’t have done more to accommodate us and my child, we felt very welcome and had a great evening.

I was in Lings on kings last week with my family we had hot an sour soup to start followed by prawn toast , seaweed, spring rolls , ribs , Crispy duck , then 2 mains Crispy chilli beef and sweet-and-sour chicken , then we had toffee banana and ice cream to Finnish . And the staff were brilliant

We went to Lings with five Austrian visitors last night and an excellent time. We all had the Emperor Banquet,and eat ourselves full and still had much left over,which was put into containers and will be eaten today by our visitors.

I think this was the worst meal I have ever had in my life. Inedible, cold,soggy,salty. It went in the dustbin.

Another lovely experience, consistent good quality food, never disappoints. The ever delightfully attentive Ling making our evening beautiful by celebrating our special leap year engagement anniversary with us. Been coming here since the 1980s, loads of lovely memories. Superb as always.

Despite visiting mid week in February, my daughter and I found a friendly warm atmosphere, great decor and excellent food at great prices. All the staff are so helpful and attentive, especially the owner, Ling. I just can't find fault at this establishment!

Ling is always very welcoming and attentive as a host. Was our 30th anniversary of our first date at Lings On Kings (previously Peking Garden) and the banquet that we ate was great as always.

Me and my family came here today after reading the tripadvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. We were welcomed in by the lovely lady who we think owns the place, she was so friendly and chatty it really made us feel relaxed. The food was great, especially the home made spring rolls with home made dips, amazing! We also loved the sizzling beef and soups. We will be coming back again with more people. Highly recommend. After a tiring day at work we decided to go out for a meal.... Travelling 15 miles to get to Lings it was well worth it... The food is cooked to perfection, we had the Banquet and was nearly 2 hours of enjoyment especially when Ling got up to sing.... Celebtating the Chinese new year in style.

Always a go to when we’re in Southport whether it be for a takeaway or a sit down meal.A friendly welcome , great service but more important excellent food !

Had a lovely evening. Atmosphere was brilliant, set menu for Chinese New Year was great value for money & food was delicious although couldn't even attempt dessert as was too full. Thank you to the staff working really hard on a very busy night to keep everybody happy!! We will be back soon

Great 65th birthday at lings on 10th january had lots of friends there and every one really enjoyed their evening. Atmosohere great and Ling and her team were superb service/food. Would highly recommend Ling on Kings. Look forward to our next visit.

We visited Lings on Kings on Saturday 4th January myself and my partner. We ordered a Banquet and the Food was Amazing as always as it always is.

Rather cold winter evening, restaurant almost empty yet was seated at a table next to a an ever opening and closing door! Food was okay, but not the standard expected!

We recently had a fantastic celebration for our son's 18th Birthday. There were 18 of us, age range from 11 to 82. We had a fixed price banquet, the food was delicious, service was excellent and the entertainment was hilarious! We were all made to feel extremely welcome and would highly recommend this venue! Thanks to Ling and all her staff!

Fantastic evening of good service, good food and excellent entertainment. Would heartily recommend Lings on Kings. Nothing too much trouble and prices good. 15 of us enjoyed our night there.

Went for an 18th and it was great fun. Ling had decorated the place accordingly (20 of us on a long table) and was up for her brand of humour and karaoke, to which we were asked to join. Food was good and plentiful (doggy bags offered at the end) and the drinks were reasonably priced. Atmosphere, pace of the night and the service were exemplary. Decor was suitably over the top. Now I know why my brother had been trying to get us to visit this place for ages (I'm in Manchester).

Visited here with my son and first impression was that it was s lovely looking restaurant, small yet cosy.
