I had eaten here once before some time ago for a Father’s Day lunch. However had been hearing good things about it so another couple who are friends and ourselves who all like to try different places and we are foodies a little bit decided to go and try it.

We had wanted to come here for a while and was certainly not disappointed. The quality of the courses and the standard of food were excellent. The only thing I was disappointed with was the guinea fowl,BUT my husband loved it, so down to preferences. My personal fave was the baked ‘Mac’ the flavours were intense and I could eat a huge bowl of it. Loved the open kitchen, seeing what was going on all the time. My only gripe is it’s in the middle of nowhere, can’t change that and I can appreciate that, but nowhere to stay, and would love them to be open for lunch. If my revue is based just on the food and service would give it 9 out of 10, excellent

Stones Restaurant

28/05/2018: Really good 8 course tasting menu offering excellent value. Stones is located right in the centre of Matlock next to the river by the bridge, and almost opposite the Railway station.
27/10/2018: Always receive a very friendly welcome. Very comfortable table. Staff obviously very busy - rushing around. Bread lovely but prefer the way presented previously. Amuse Bouche delicious. Staff really friendly & efficient.

Packhorse Inn

07/10/2018: Whilst walking in the are we popped in for a beer and was well and truly impressed by the choice available of both the beers and the food. The venue is owned by the Thornbridge Brewery (I think) and as such has many of its beers available as well as some others from other brewerys. It had a log fire burning and has an old world interior with wooden beams and paneling. The staff were really friendly and helpful, its a shame we did not have time to try out the food which ranges from Tapas to more conventially pub grub.
12/09/2018: Booked here on the strength of other TA reviews and weren't disappointed. The interior is very down to earth, do not expect gastro pub decor, good range of local Thornbridge beer. The food was excellent, venison & chorizo burgers. All in all a really good place to visit.
