First time I have had snails, and it was fantastic. Great service.

This is a well established restaurant for good reasons. The pared back menu is excellent. Get the steak tartar and don't skip on the goose egg.

The food was perfect, especially the creme brulee, service exceptional.

I’m not sure if I should be posting this as it feels like giving away the best kept secret you want to keep to yourself… We’ve been coming to L’Escargot Bleu wine bar regularly for almost a year and a half. It’s slightly hidden away, but everything you can think about is top notch! The food, the atmosphere… but, frankly, it’s the staff the makes the place. Not only kind, but personable, always willing to give great advice, and a good chat. It’s isn’t just a wine bar - it’s the cosiness of a local pub but with a refined French twist. Ps. Get the sardines.

We popped into L'Escargot Bleu for a sunny Saturday lunch on a recent three-day pass through Edinburgh. We've dined at great restaurants in many places, but there's no question that this little French gem is at the very top of its game. The dishes are fresh and delicious, using the best of seasonal produce that is lovingly prepared and presented. No exaggeration, this was quite possibly the best risotto we've ever eaten, anywhere, and the crème brûlée is absolute perfection. The staff is so charming and helpful -- and the dining space so inviting -- that you may want to linger after your meal over mouthwatering desserts, an extensive wine list and addictive coffees. Top-notch all around. Bravo!!!

A la Carte Menu Starter: Shetland mussels with scallops in cream & blue cheese sauce. Sauce & scallops fine but mussels overcooked and poor quality. Main: Boeuf Bourguignon. Excellent. Dessert : Didn't take one. Cost: 60 pounds.

I am appreciate that I finally visited here. I saved this place more than year, I think this one is best French restaurant in Edinburgh. First of all, £60pounds for 3 course is reasonable price. We enjoyed all starters, main menus and dessert. Especially I strongly recommend beef tartare for starter. We could pick the level of spicy, it was brilliant. For main course, they have special menu, we picked surf and turf. Lobster was amazing and pork was chewy, they were super delicious. Finally the dessert, we ordered 3 different things, but all great we can’t pick the best. All food menu was amazing.

L’ escargot Bleu is an amazingly authentic experience, with a dedicated and friendly staff. Everything here was spectacular, and their menu is well curated to provide a dish for everyone to like. Standout dishes for me were the Crème Brûlé and the L’escargot.

Had a dinner there recently and I was unpleasantly surprised how high the prices were. First went for a drink in the downstairs bar - the wines were excellent and we were casually offered olives to go with our wines. There was literally less than 10 olives on the plate and it costed £6! Glasses of wine are all over £10. All mains are around £30. We paid £120 for the dinner with 3 glasses of wine and 2 mains. Maybe these are the new "normal" prices, but I just wasn't prepared. Also, I was bitten by some bug while sitting at the table in a smaller dining room, only noticed it at home while changing. The food and the service was excellent, though and the portions are good size.

Oddly enough I find myself in stunning French restaurants in the UK more often than I’d expect, and this was no exception. Our servers were warm and accommodating (critical given the bone chilling cold that day before dinner) and the food was uniformly excellent. The deconstructed fish soup was a particularly fascinating touch and of course a restaurant with escargot in the name did not disappoint with the titular dish. Duck egg omelette was fascinating and a classic beef bourguignon simply hits the spot on a chilly day. Would 100% recommend to francophiles looking for a proper feed in Edinburgh.

Fabulous dining experience. From the food to the ambience I felt that I was actually in a little bistro in Paris for a few hours. Wonderful, wonderful lunch there. Will be back for dinner for sure. Go try for yourself. You will not be disappointed

Eaten here twice in the last 6 months, excellent on both occasions. Lovely service. Beautiful ingredients cooked well. A small element of theatre in a few of the dishes is enjoyable e.g. cooked or finished at the table. Not cheap but absolutely worth it. Don’t miss the Ile Flottante!

Lamb main course previously cooked and reheated in a tasteless gravy to which sauted potatoes had been added and disintegrated. Extra vegetables (at £7) 3 caulflower florets, a couple of small slices of carrot and courgette again over cooked. Desert 5 prunes removed from a jar and put in a glass dish. No French flair but very French prices! Service rushed. Seriously disappointing.

Sem duvida um dos melhores restaurantes que ja fui! Chegamos pensando ter uma reserva mas infelizmente meu esposo nao tinha percebido que tinha feito uma Pre reserva. O rapaz da recepcao nos informou que poderia nos encaixar em uma mesa para nos atender sem problema nenhum. alem da garconete extremamente simpatica nos explicou os pratos quando tinhamos duvidas e fomos tratados super bem do inicio ao fim! a comida tambem estava perfeita, um risoto com ovo e cogumelos que recomendo a todos que facam um visita a edinburgo.

This restaurant has an authentic feel; in food, wine, alcohol and staff. This is not our first time, and we ate well on both occasions. The specials are often really good. Good food and wine don't come cheap but the occasional treat is worth while.

Eten is echt fantastisch. Typische Franse keuken maar lekkerder dan ik ooit gehad heb. De service was simpelweg precies goed. Zeker een aanrader want alles klopt: eten, drinken, service en ambiance.

Fantastische tent. Als ze onderling frans met elkaar praten weet je dat je op de juiste plek bent. Het eten was echt subliem. Wijn zo goddelijk alsof je in Frankrijk bent en de bediening is goud. Complimenten en zeker een dikke vette aanrader!!

We have been twice here, once for lunch and the other time for dinner, and the food has been incredible on both visits. The portion sizes are very generous and the constantly alternating dishes are delicious. The staff also make the experience extra memorable and are happy to accommodate for special occasions.

Only had drinks, which were excellent, although the food looked and smelled delicious. The staff were fantastic at seating a large party and service was very prompt. The booths outside are cute and cosy I can imagine the fire is amazing in winter too! Would definitely recommend and will be going back soon.

We were so lucky to have our last dinner in Edinburgh here. You need to book in advance, just keep this in mind. Steak Tartare, fish soup, mains, desserts, wine, everything was so amazing. Had one of the best dine in experiences. The service was nice, staff was very friendly. Atmosphere so calm and cosy. Will definitely come back if we’ll be in Edinburgh again. Amazing experience. I recently had the best meal I've had for a long time, at L'Escargot Bleu. The place captures true French charm along with warm Edinburgh hospitality. The food was absolutely fantastic & the service was first class. Fred & Betty have created something magical here, fine dining with a warm welcome. Do start with a visit to the wine bar downstairs, run by their charming daughter. My only regret....that I don't live in Edinburgh so I could be a regular here. One of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh recently opened a wine bar in the basement. It serves up an excellent range of organic and biodynamic wines in a warm setting. The sharing platter served cheeses in excellent condition with good quality salamis and meats. Staff were very well trained and added to the overall experience

Quaint cozy French bistro in NewTown area of Edinburgh. Brilliant French take using the fresh Scottish produce from the area. The bistro is well managed by French couple with the husband as chef and wife running the front. I have never seen such a “chill” and relaxed kitchen brigade of 2. The menu is the obligatory blackboard which is brought to the table and propped up in the chair. The special of the day is announced by the wait staff. Everything sounds delicious. I was told that this is the place with the best steak tartare which is prepared at your table. I was not disappointed! The escargot was also very good. Wine was well matched with the food. The ambience is relaxed and I could have been in France instead of freezing Edinburgh. Totally enjoyed the atmosphere. Enjoyed watching the kitchen brigade work efficiently and producing steaming hot dishes effortlessly. The bistro is closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Open for dinners only the rest of the week. Lunch available only on Friday and Saturday. There’s a cancellation fee as well. Highly recommended for a great French bistro meal in Edinburgh!

Absolutely fantastic restaurant and wine bar. The staff are all friendly and good fun, the food is consistently excellent and the selection of wine is fantastic. They also have steak tartare that is prepared table-side. There is a nice choice of bar appropriate snacks and I have never had a bad time there. with a nice warm and comfortable atmosphere.

Lovely hearty meal. Some dishes are fancier and more delicate than others. An overall enjoyable experience.

Overall a good dining experience. They served both classic French dishes and some special items with thoughtful mix of ingredients - like the main I had which is a goose one. Very friendly service, a cozy environment with great wine, and we loved the rich and creamy creme brulee, which were burnt in place. Though there is still room for improvement. We had steamed mussels and steak tartare as starters. The creamy sauce accompanying the mussels tasted great, and the mussels were in good texture, but the sauce was a bit too strong which overshadowed the flavour of mussels. Same happened in the tartare, the seasoning itself was nice, just a bit too much that the meaty flavour was diminished. Anyway I would visit again and try their other dishes.

If I could give 6 Stars, I will ..... Amazing experience and highly recommended 👌 👏 The staff had a personal touch to the whole experience and make it feel as home 🏠❤

I am a luddite and would never have thought a French restaurant would serve something I liked. However there was a work event at this restaurant and they served wonderful food. The staff were brilliant and the atmosphere was great.

My family an I celebrated my graduation here last night. The food was exquisite with an extensive and wonderfully complimentary wine list. The service was excellent with several stand out dishes: steak tartare (best I’ve ever had), crème brûlée and the risotto. I had such a lovely evening and my big day was made really special. Delicious foods and great ambience

What a hidden gem. Just off the main parts of Edinburgh, this French restaurant doesn't disappoint, and well worth the effort to go to. The food was great and the staff, who are actually French, area only to happy to help. When you're in the restaurant, it's hard not to think that you've been transported to Paris for the day. We'll definitely be back. Superb 10/10

Tolles französisches Restaurant am Rande der New Town. Sehr schön eingerichtet und super nette Bedienung. Essen war sehr lecker, allerdings auch etwas teurer. Den Preis war es aber wert! Leider keine Kinderkarte, Fahrer einen Punkt Abzug.

I hadn't visited L'Escargot Bleu for years. It was a big favourite of ours. Delighted to find it as fabulous as ever! I had steak tatare to start which was perfect and tailored to each person. Mains and pud were heaven. There's only an action shot of desert because it was gone so quickly! Staff were lovely!

I feel like lunch prices are up compared to pre-pandemic (or maybe just no more fixed price lunch option anymore). But this is definitely still one of Edinburgh's best French restaurants, both in terms of food, ambience and service. The rabbit is always a good 👍

We recently celebrated our wedding with a dinner at L'Escargot Bleu and had an absolutely brilliant evening from start to finish thanks to Betty and her lovely team. By the far the best restaurant in Edinburgh. Staff were beyond superb; funny, engaging, and kind, they created a really friendly and relaxing atmosphere to enjoy dinner in. The food was some of the best french cuisine I've had, if we had gone hear first we would have come back for the entire stay to try everything on the menu.

Wonderful service, kitchen staff are attentive and clearly display that they care not only how they cook the food but how guests experience the food. Also, unlike some high end restaurants here in Edinburgh, L'Escargot can cook steak as asked and to perfection. Would be glad to visit again.

It is many years since I have tasted authentic French cooking as good as this, it was simply stunning! To see a restaurant as busy as this on a Thursday night in February speaks volumes. The staff were superb, and the whole experience was memorable. I shall most certainly be back!

The place is perfect for a date night. It’s on the small side but it’s cosy, beautiful decor and has a lovely ambience. All food and drinks served were delicious. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Nice selection of food and drinks.

Food to enrich the soul, sourced from all around Scotland. Cooked with French skill and style. The best of French wine, aperitifs, liqueurs. The most wonderful warm, welcoming, heart warming surroundings. Leave with a strong desire to come back, a full stomach and the feeling that you have just been somewhere very very special indeed. We were a table of 8. The restaurant did everything they could to accommodate us, including taking the time to understand our oarty's dietary requirements. The food was insane, the wine was incredible and the service was absolutely 10/10. I'll definitely be back.
