Lemon Witch Kitchen in Southend-on-Sea

Very poor service overall. Waited a long 55 minutes for brunch, arrived with a few slices of mushroom and tatty scraps of tomato, no avocado ( was informed they didn't have any avocado at start) Partner asked for sugar wasn't brought over so had to go to counter to ask for it, drink ordered not brought over with other drink .... had to ask for it ...... unlimited brunch was a pretty dire looking offering tbh. No apologies for the waits or forgotten items ....

Our experience at Lemon Witch was mediocre. The restaurant itself is very cramped, which doesn’t make for a very comfortable dining experience. We were shocked to see there is no wheelchair or pram access. Granted, it isn’t a big restaurant, however to not even have the option of a ramp to accommodate in this day and age in my opinion is very poor. The floor wasn’t very clean and had a lot of dog hair on it. I have no problem with dogs coming into restaurants, however seeing dog hair whilst you are eating is very off putting. The brunch we had was okay, but given the overall experience we wouldn't rush back.

First time visit for a special birthday and was very disappointed! We had booked but our table had quite clearly been given to another party meaning we eventually got seated 35 minutes past our booking time. Drinks were lukewarm and had to be returned. Food looked pre cooked and warmed up for serving with scrambled eggs being cooked in a microwave! Nothing was delicious but was edible….overall quite a flat experience which certainly didn’t live up to all the reviews I read before booking!

We have now been as a family 3 times to have their Freakshakes (Groupon). Just wonderful and always something lovely to do with the children. Can’t recommend enough and lovely people.

We went here for breakfast based on previous reviews. We were seen to our tables in a very cramped eating space (small shop). We then were sat for 20 mins before my wife out of frustration asked if we could be served. When the drinks arrived, a tea and a cappuccino, neither of us were asked if we wanted sugar; it was a further 15 mins before we could get the attention of the server to bring some sugar and some hot water so that my wife could top her tea up. The food came shortly after, it looked ok, apart from my vegan sausages who ch had appeared to have been barley cooked. Upon digging in the pancakes were bland, and my sausages were not cooked properly. I ended up only eating half of one of my 2 sausages and about half my pancakes. Everything was cold and bland, the pankake mixture could’ve done with a pinch of salt. Whilst we were waining for our food one of the servers was busy restyling her hair behind the service area, which appalled my wife and nearly had us both walking out! The hash browns were just about edible. We left feeling very disappointed and still hungry for breakfast. And the last passing note the one item that was distinctly absent from the menu was ‘lemon’! It seemed a great concept and previous reviews made it sound great. Unfortunately we shall not be retuning 🙁

Very disappointed, having read reviews, this place sounded great, unfortunately our experience was not. 25 mins before someone came to take our order, and that was only because i called the waitress who was cleaning tables, a further 20 mins before our food came. Staff playing with and platting her hair in the kitchen, whilst another was eating a bag of crips and licking fingers. The pancakes were bland, dry, over cooked and cold, veggie sausage not cooked properly, no sugar offered , half a cup of tea; both arrived 10 mins before food rather than with it. Horrible plastic plants everywhere - no witch in their right mind has plastic plants! And where does lemon come into it? Not one single lemon item on the menu! Felt very much like the Saturday staff had been left in charge and couldn't be bothered with customers. Gutted!

Lovely place, friendly staff, lovely food with lots of choice and really good vegan options. Huge choice of milkshakes and hot chocolate. Service a little slow but not a problem. Definitely will go back again… and again

We came in just before closing time and ordered iced americano coffees. For some reason they took a good 10 minutes to make 2 coffees but they were very nice.

My daughter had her 7th birthday here today & it was amazing! The staff are wonderful, so friendly & great with the kids, they really made my daughter & her friends feel welcome. I’ve been here before for biscuit decorating for the kids & for afternoon tea for kids & adults & it’s always a lovely experience. Thank you lemon witch! We can’t wait to see you again soon! Shocking! Plenty of free tables. No I hadn’t booked. Just a solo dinner rejected by a child that was working there on an iPad! Won’t be back!

Absolutely fantastic cafe, food was brilliant, lots of different bits on the menu suit's all food allergies or dietary requirements. Friendly staff and was really chatty, really did make my day coming here. Thank you so much 100 would reccomend

This review is intended to be helpful and I hope it is received as such. My partner and I ordered the Truly Scrumptious pancakes and, apart from a very small smear on the plate, there was no sauce of any description or any moisture at all, making it exceptionally dry. We love our food and never leave anything but, even between us, we couldn't finish it. I'm fairly sure the pancakes are pre-prepared and, I'm sorry to say, you can really tell. With so many other lovely places to eat in Leigh, this place really does need to up its game. On a positive note, the coffee was very nice.

I came here with friends recently (1st time for 2 of us) and don't understand the high rating. We sat for 40 minutes before my friend getting up to ask for some service, someone came over and took our drinks order only as we were still waiting for another friend to arrive. After about 10 minutes of her arriving she then went up to order a drink by which the other 2 still hadn't arrived. Then had to go up to ask someone to take our food order. Food ok, staff looked miserable. Good wode selection of crepes etc tbough ans heavan for kids but i won't be returning.

Visited today with family, age ranging from 3-70 and there was something for everyone. We had to change out booking a few times and Lemon Witch were nothing but accommodating. We were also running late which wasn’t a problem. The children did the Easter biscuit decorating which included a crepe and milkshake. The adults all had breakfasts and coffee. All incredibly tasty and very reasonable. The staff were incredibly friendly, they didn’t rush us but were always there if needed. We all had a lovely time and will definitely be back

My daughter took me to this little lace on Leigh Broadway, was unsure what to expect. Was very surprised at the menu which very good. I had Porkies Revenge which consisted of bacon, ham, chorizo and and egg in a pancake, very tasty and really nice totally unexpected. The service was brilliant great staff all with smiles on they faces, which in this day and age is not found very often. Overall it was a very pleasant experience one I would do again.

The Lemon Witch Kitchen is a lovely little restaurant that is decorated like an American diner. There are two little turquoise booths in the window that would be nice to sit in when the ban lifts. They offer take out food right now. We had Biscoff milkshakes and they were fantastic. They have a great selection of food for every taste preference and diet.

Ordered vegi afternoon tea. First get delivered to the wrong address. On chasing was told they had made a mistake with the delivery but would deliver the next day.Arrived later than expected and when opened found that it wasn't a vegi box comprising a pork pie and Turkey (I think) & cranberry sandwiches. 're the contents that I could eat, really not nice almost all went in the bin as just too bad. A real shame Would never recommend or go into the shop now.

Wow, just wow - amazing food and customer service is second to none. We ordered a birthday treat of the weekend box and we were not disappointed. Pancakes, waffles with crispy bacon and fried eggs were so tasty and it set us up nicely for the day. Contactless delivery and a beautiful birthday message adding an unexpected personal touch. Called in here on the off chance, but didn’t realise you had to book. We’re offered a table outside, which didn’t bother us despite the wind. Allowed inside a short while later, as a booking hadn’t turned up.I had a gluten free banoffee, and my wife the Harry Potter.Mine was quite chewy, but that may be to it being GF. Never had one before, so nothing to compare with.Wife said hers was very sweet, and was smothered in marshmallows.Overall, slightly disappointed, but would return and give them another chance.

Heard great things about this place and wasn't disappointed. Husband and I had the unlimited brunch which was amazing, perfect fluffy pancakes and beautifully cooked bacon, went down a treat. Our daughter had the M&M's pancakes which she thought were delicious. Treat yourself to a visit, you won't regret it!

They really should make fresh waffles for the price. I’ve visited various similar places who all make their own waffles, shop brought and warmed up with fruit for £6.50 seems steep. My step dad ordered the falafal and the crepe was cold. Wasn’t a great experience, kids freakshakes were nice.

Came here for a pre-booked unlimited brunch with my partner and friend. They were very busy and admittedly took a little while to get to us, but were extremely professional and dealt with the queues admirably. We ordered drinks and confirmed our orders for the brunch. The waitress was friendly and cheerful despite the clearly hectic job she was doing. I ordered a Freakshake which looked awesome, however, in my opinion was actually a bit thin and average once you got past the fun toppings- I think a good milkshake should be thick! It still tasted good, but at over £6 I’m not sure I would bother again. The brunch was delicious but, as stated in a previous review, I think it would be beneficial if you were asked about preferences- I didn’t eat my toast on this occasion. As always, the pancakes were delicious and we could barely move afterwards! We had a lovely time and it was an extra bargain on the Dine Out to Help Out scheme! Can’t wait to come back- as I’m sure we will!

Today I went in with a friend as we wanted to try something different and also somewhere that served vegan options rather than lame excuses. The young lad who greeted us pleasantly and was very helpful showed us to the table outside, which we asked for, and provided us with menus. After pursuing the me yes my friend ordered the goats cheese crêpe with spinach and I the Vegan avocado and spinach crêpe. I also had a soy latte whilst my friend had a cold drink. Once again the service was very polite and respectful and we were brought our drinks whilst we waited for our lunch. The food arrived and it was excellent, very fresh, tasty and good portions for a lunch. The crêpes were very good, not oily and hit the spot. The prices were good for the area and the portion sizes, plus the service was extremely good which is a must in my book. We will definitely be visiting again. Thanks.

We visited here when it was very busy but the staff were great and managed to fit us in. The young girl who served us was so friendly. The menu is huge! We had a combination of crepes, pancakes, smoothies and milkshakes and it was all delicious. We tried to go again the following day but sadly there was no room. It will be first on our list next time we’re in LeIgh.

Out for some air as the heatwave was subsiding when we stumbled upon this lovely little place.We had coffee and crepes, both tasted really nice and the service by the very considerate young waiter, Jude, completed this really pleasant stop.We sat outside enjoying the buzz of traffic and pedestrians but didn't find either a distraction.We'll definitely be visiting this independent little gem again thanks to their product quality and genuine service. Had a lunch outing with my daughter for a milkshake. They were very busy with the new eat out scheme but the ladies were very helpful and the milkshakes were fantastic. My daughter enjoyed her pancake and hash browns as well.

I hate to leave negative reviews but was so disappointed with this place! Have been meaning to visit for ages and didn't even end up staying. Was totally ignored by staff, someone had glass in their milkshake and another table complained they had been waiting ages for scrambled egg, which is made in the microwave and apparently couldn't be done at the time.. Doesnt really seem to be any gov guidelines being followed, no PPE, everyone crammed in to the cafe, no one way system or waiting at the entrance etc.. As someone that works in the same industry its a huge red flag to me and really disappointing. Maybe it was just a bad day, we all have them, but has definitely put us off coming back and the lack of Gov guidelines being followed just made us feel really uneasy

Had a takeaway. Delivery took ages and the food was so So disappointing and cold. Could of make a better pancake myself at home. Pricey for what it is. Was not impressed.

After a disappointing delivery through Uber Eats , I contacted Lemon witch direct to speak to an great woman called Amanda , she personally hand delivered replacement shakes for the children.This sort of level of customer service is above and beyond what a company do and the second shakes were amazing! Your a real credit and thank you again .

Had pancakes delivered on Easter Sunday, they were absolutely fantastic. Two had Easter special and two had Oreo, we all thoroughly enjoyed them and will come see you once lockdown is over. Many thanks 👍🏼

School holiday visit with my daughters, the food was quite nice and kids were happy but did find the restaurant quite messy and tables not very clean.

We visited this establishment on a busy Sunday morning. We found a table which had just been vacated and studied the menu. Our table was cleared after a while and we decided on our choices. Our drinks arrived which were fine although they’d run out of coconut milk so I had to have the usual milk. I chose the “Hulk” breakfast which looked great in the menu and my partner went for a smaller version without eggs. We waited for about 40 minutes and had finished our drinks by the time it arrived. Mine included three “American” pancakes with bacon and eggs sandwiched in between. It was nice tasting and quite filling. My partners pancakes were tough and overcooked. We were so hungry we ate it anyway apart from two of her pancakes. The place was really noisy because there were a lot of children in there and there was annoying quite loud music playing which isn’t needed. When I went up to pay the waitress heard my concerns about the overcooked pancakes and refunded the money from the hot chocolate which was a nice gesture. I’m not sure if we’d go back on a Sunday as it was too busy and noisy.

Found our way in here one last afternoon and enjoyed a beautiful savoury Hot Chick Crepe, staff were lovely and very welcoming came out feeling very content. Will revisit next time we are on the Broadway.

Attended a gingerbread house workshop with a friend for a festive treat! First time I have visited here and thought it was great. The event was good value at £16.50 for a house, hot chocolate and a pancake. Staff were friendly but seemed slightly unorganised as no napkins were given out (despite being a very sticky/messy activity and lots of children being present). Think it could have been more of a tutorial/competition type event as we were left to get on with it but at the same time it was quite nice bekng free to do as we wished. Hope this event is on again next year so i can take my niece.

Halloween Afternoon Tea was fabulous.We had a choice of sandwiches, mini stacks of pancakes and additional spooky treats like mini ‘pumpkins’ (satsumas with a green pepper stalk) ‘eyeballs’ (oreo cookies with smartie pupils) ‘witches broomsticks’ (twiglets and cheese) and a spiders web pancake.My husband and I got a hot drink included and my daughter got a milkshake of her choice.My daughter enjoyed the food aswell as the Halloween decorations pointing out all the hanging spiders. She was gifted a little Halloween goody bag with some Halloween crafts to do at home.Looking forward to booking the Christmas Afternoon Tea.

All 4 of us were seated with drinks ordered by 1pm and the waitress took our food order as she bought the drinks. The 1st coffee to arrive was barely luke warm (my husband demonstrated by sticking his finger down to the bottom of the cup.....definitely not hot) I asked the waitress to heat it up for us and she responded by saying that we would have a bit of a wait as she was busy dealing with the large table of 15 or so that was in at the same time.......OK.....didn't realise that the smaller your party, the worse your customer service but we ignored it. We also then ignored the fact that the pumpkin coffee and the "hot" chocolate were not hot either. I decided just not to drink mine....it wasn't worth the hassle or the wait.By 1.20pm our food arrived. We all chose savoury dishes and were looking forward to at least being able to share puddings if we were too full to have one each. They looked good but again were luke warm (and my fried egg was decidedly "snotty") but we decided, being typical English people, we wouldn't complain and by 1.40pm we were finished eating and waited for the waitress so we could order pudding.At this point the waitress came over and said that the manageress had told her to point out to us that the booth was booked out again at 2pm!!!! So they were literally telling us to hurry up and leave when we had only been sat down 40 mins and hadn't even ordered pudding yet!!! We decided to leave and have coffee and cake elsewhere and I made sure that the staff at the counter knew I was definitely not satisfied with what they considered customer service, nor was I impressed with their cold food and poor time management.Leigh is full to the brim with wonderful places to eat so in order to compete, you need to offer excellent food and attention for people's hard earned money. This place offers neither. Gimmicky puddings aimed at children so that their parents will pay up and leave without complaint. Will never go back and never recommend

We visited this little creperie on a Sunday afternoon. The kitchen area is very small which in itself seemed rather worrying and I should have taken note.

My first visit here, with my granddaughter. Huge choice of pancakes, waffles and crepes..Lovely savoury crepe.

So after seeing advertisements on Facebook for afternoon tea for 2 adults 2 children for £40 we made arrangements to book here as pictures looked lovely! ..... upon arrival our table was already set up, so we sat down, we had to wait a little while for anyone to come over, to which we was approached by youngsters, looked like school age children which seemed pretty nervous and awkward, we ordered our teas, and waited for our food to arrive, when it arrived we noticed that the children’s set up was not as it should of been, there were pancakes missing and messy fruit just dotted about, none of which was advertised, the children wouldn’t eat the sandwiches as the bread had gone hard and stale, the adults tea set up looked slightly better but again the sandwiches were hard, even the sandwiches in the middle! I understand that bread does toughen quickly but these sandwiches had clearly been left uncovered and out of the fridge for a long period of time.

Came along with my friend for the unlimited brunch; as I was super excited after seeing the excellent offer on Facebook.

I had heard lots of good things about the Lemon Witch and couldn't wait to visit, the menu choice is amazing and it was so hard to make a decision on what kind of pancake and filling I had, the lady who took our order was so helpful and knowledgeable about the menu, my children had the mini pancakes with fruit and really enjoyed them, they also tried a milkshake each and both said they were yummy! I enjoyed my savoury pancake and would definitely recommend the Lemon Witch.

I just wanted to say I had the absolute pleasure of stumbling across the Lemon Witch Kitchen yesterday after being enticed in with a biscoff milkshake sample - and I’m so glad I did! Me and my partner had a brilliant time, very friendly staff - and not to mention the lovely food! I lived in france for 8 years so I had high expections and they were well and truly exceeded. We love Lemon Witch and see you again soon

Bought a slice of cake here, £4.00 to my horror as she didn’t even tell me the price?! Limited selection and wow it was revolting, stale as anything, it was rock hard and crispy. Perhaps it had been left out or was old. It was also so sweet. Won’t be visiting again, avoid the cakes

I am just shocked firstly at anyone that could rate this place badly. The staff all had massive smiles and greeted us straight away. Then I ordered a coffee which came out hot and delicious. i ordered the vegan gluten free savoury crepe, avocardo, mushrooms, vegan cheese, olives spinach.... it was so good I just wanted to order another one to take home for dinner. The food and staff are wonderful. I HIGHLY with all my heart recommend this place. I have now been here 6 times... driving over from hertfordshire.... it is worth the hours drive ....and going on the M25 !!! Amanda the owner was there last time we went and she is just a gorgeous and kind person. GET YOUR BUTT THERE ASAP!!!

Took a visit to lemon witch as my friend recommend it and I must say we will definitely be going back. Me and my husband both had a sweet pancake which was Devine and very filling.

Just want to thank Lemon Witch for an amazing breakfast/brunch. An abundance of delicious food. too much for me and hubbie eats for England and couldnt clear his plate ! Great staff. Over priced. Not unlimited. You have to almost beg and made to feel greedy if you want more. Tiny tiny portions and rude unwelcoming staff. Waitress needs customer service skills... toilets past the kitchen are the dirtiest toilets we have ever seen and right next to kitchen. Food standards wouldhave a field day

Visited lemon witch for the first time today for the unlimited brunch. Was ok but definitely expected more! The bread was seeded which we was unaware of and with neither of us liking seeded bread, it felt very wasteful leaving it. I wish we new all the details in the unlimited brunch before. The breakfast was covered in pepper which I am not a fan of so had to scrape all the pepper off my food and ask for a new egg which wasnt ideal. The pancakes tasted good and we both had a vanilla latte which was the best. If we visited again we wouldnt order the unlimited breakfast! I think it would be good to have a choice of bread and fruit as we wasted the banana too!

A new find for me and my daughter!!! A great menu - this is a crepe place - both savoury and sweet. Plenty of choice for vegetarians and also some vegan choices too! We had falafel crepe with salad and yoghurt and mint dressing. Was delicious! Can’t wait to work my way through their menu! For two our lunch came to approx £15 which I think is good value. Would highly recommend.

We visited today for the first time with our kids for a contact visit. Staff was very welcoming, friendly and was willing to help. Food was really lovely and freshly made. Drinks were absolutely amazing. This place is very good and it won’t be the only time I use it. We had various members of family join us throughout our time here and all were accommodated and fed well. We was not pushed to leave when we had finished

Had the best time out with my family! I’m vegan, my Mum is vegetarian and coeliac, my nieces and my BIL are also coeliac! We all had so much choice and the food was amazing as was the service! Would fully recommend and will be going back soon!

My wife used to pop into Lemon Witch when it was in Southend but now based in Leigh, My wife took me in there this week and 2 days later I was back for more. As a savoury man I stuck to the Savoury Galettes of which there are many to choose from while the wife kept her sweet tooth satisfied in the pancake section. On my first visit the owner/manager was one of the kindest ladies and thoroughly deserves for her business to be a success and with this menu and business she surely will be. On our second visit a few days later the two girls assisting were equally as charming and helpful. No doubt we will be back next week ! Love it !

I was so looking forward to visiting this new addition to the broadway I never really get disappointed however that’s the only way to describe my pancakes. I ordered the Truly scrumptious which was advertised as pancakes with Nutella, malteasers, strawberry’s, bananas and chocolate flake at £7 I really don’t expect to get 2 malteasers and no nutella just a cheap chocolate sauce. It wasn’t a great portion my pancakes were tiny. My husband however ordered the biscoff pancakes and had huge pancakes double the size of mine with loads of biscoff filling and caramel sauce so I have no idea what happened to mine. Such a shame we probably won’t be returning as there are nicer places along the broadway.

Great little place! We’ve enjoyed our afternoon at the Lemon Witch Kitchen. We’ll be back when we’re in the area again!

Have been here on several occasions and had a few different pancakes - staff are always friendly and the food is tasty

Disappointing that they've merged with the pub next door if you're going here with kids. The pub is friendly enough and clean, although the menu is smaller than it used to be (as can be expected) but the shakes didn't compare, and we felt out of place in a pub with small children (everyone else was drinking beer at the bar while we ordered our shakes!). Not bad if you are going to the pub and want something fun for the kids, but it's not quite lemon witch.

We went in to duck out of the rain the food is really good they pay great attention to dietary request for example lactose free they had several other choices Very friendly and priced well

Visited Friday evening for the crepe and cocktail promotion as a group of three. We've all (and our kids who have been to several events there) been regular customers of lemon witch, but this was our first visit to the new location.

Now in The Townhouse and called Crafty Crepes. Still good - feels like less choice but nice atmosphere and great service. Will be going back. Shakes are a real treat.

Tried to have lunch here today. Our first visit in the new location. We were given a table and menus quickly. We struggled to read the menus due to pale white text on a yellow back ground. Then the couple next to us complained about a delay with drinks. The waitress told us she'd get to us next but after nearly 30 minutes of waiting our order wasn't taken. We left and sadly went to Starbucks.

Lemon witch is a quirky place and, even though the food isn't cheap, I still think its reasonably priced for what you get. They do both sweet and savoury crepes with a variety of fillings, and I've heard their freakshakes are good as well. I've eaten here a few times now and not been disappointed although the service is quite slow

I was initially very excited by The Lemon Witch as it’s got great decor and a great vegan/vegetarian and is right by my work; but have been let down mutiple times by the incredibly slow service.

Visited as a party of 8 for my teenage son's birthday, I was sorely disappointed, way over priced for, well, not a lot, the milk shakes were not at all cold, could even be considered warm, and are nothing more than milk with just a flavouring. Spent close to £100, its a shame, the staff were pleasant, and that's where the good points end.

Our family (2 adults and 2 children age 7 & 5) have eaten lunch here in August 2018 during our vacation in the UK. The cafe has a great style and is very comfy. We had crepes for lunch, which were all amazing. The crepes have cool names like Harry Potter (Nutella, Popping Candy, Maltesers, Whipped Cream & Marshmallows) or Porky's Revenge (Cheese, Chorizo, Ham, Bacon & Egg). There are also really nice Milkshakes on the menue. Overall a great experience and I wish we had something like this closer to home. Will definitely come back here, the next time we are in Southend.

Service very slow although staff were very helpful when asked. Crepes are boring with very little of the expensive stuff in them (cheese/chichen/ bacon etc) Tried a freakshake, big mistake. It was warm, the bisuit sank to the bottom and needed to ask for a spoon to dish it out, by this time it had gone mushy.

Both the savoury and sweet pancakes are excellent. The best milkshake I have ever tasted and yes I have had more than one. The menu is varied and the staff are friendly. I often pop in for lunch and my grandchildren also love it here. I also like the decor and the way the food is served.

Popped in here with the wife for a treat as I love pancakes. Lovely helpful staff lots to choose from both sweet and savoury fillings and you change things around to your taste.
