We called in here for a snack, My wife ordered smoked salmon open sandwich, Was not asked whether she wanted white or brown bread. When I asked was told they only had brown bread, I told them to cancel that one and spoke to a different waitress who said she could have a white bap or baguette with the same filling which was okay. I went to the toilet and on the way back heard the waitress's talking about it. The original waitress came over and we explained what we wanted and she did not grasp the concept and said we could not have one this being the case we left. It is not disabled friendly if you want the toilet

We had a most lovely meal here yesterday evening: authentic French food charmingly served. The chickpea pancakes as amuses bouches were delicious. There was an excellent choice of wine. We had 3 small sharing plates to start, all extremely tasty and a small selection of plats to follow. It was a super evening, and reasonably priced. Possibly the best food inSouthwold. Highly recommended!

Booked a table for ten to see the New Year in with my book group. We were given a warm welcome and our table was ready for us. The menu is different and there is certainly something to suit all tastes and appetite. Dishes ordered by people in the group ranged from omelettes with fresh salad, "croque monsieur" and a yummy dish of the day. There's a real taste of France and staff are ready to explain the menu. If you have room for dessert you will be tempted by the delicious range of cakes and lots of different teas and coffees. Wine is served and I treated myself to a sweet dessert wine - superb! There is no shortage of places to eat in Southwold. But most of them, for me, are pretty uncomfortable. As we know- Southwold...Chelsea-on-Sea...can be a very pretentious place. To say the least.Le Roc isn't remotely pretentious. It is warm, friendly, relaxed and down to Earth. Exactly how I like my eating places to be. The staff are lovely and accommodating. The food is simple, quality home-cooking. No nonsense and no messing about.I salute Le Roc. It could go down the "Southwold-route" and it really hasn't. It could become yet another showy and pompous establishment where if you're not in the "in-crowd", i.e. rich and from London, then you're made to feel pretty unwelcome. It remains a friendly, tasty little bistro that welcomes all and does it's best to make everyone feel comfortable, relaxed and to leave well-fed with a smile. Congratulations to the owners and staff.

So the word at lunchtime is that the croque monsieur (the classic, the salmon or the veggie) is the thing to go for. I couldn't finish mine (veggie), it was the equivalent of a small loaf of bread with delicious cheesy topping and superb mixed roast veg contents. Bookings are hard to get here (unless you know people) so arrive early and cross your fingers. Well worth it. It's more of a bistro in the evening apparently with a totally different menu (no doubt excellent) but lunch is definitely worth a trip. Service was a bit hit and miss but apparently the usual waitress has gone travelling.

Any restaurant that if full, will call guests booked in to see if they are still coming just so they can get you a table, will always get my vote. That is what happened when we tried to book on a busy Saturday evening. We were called back and offered a late cancellation table. The food was in a Tapas style but with a french twist and was absolutely amazing. Chef was very keen and obviously proud to explain the tastes and ingredients of the dishes if asked, as well he should be. The staff were excellent, even to the extent of lending my girlfriend some reading glasses as she had forgotten hers!, not something I have experienced before. Le Roc is a good cafe during the day, but on some evenings it's transformed into an absolutely fantastic restaurant. The 'tapas' is actually a selection of platters (meats, fish and vegetables) all of which are enhanced with the most generous offer of allotment-fresh leaves, pea puree and crudites. The other dishes range from meatballs, ratatouille and fish cassoulet, to little chick pea pancakes and other pretty exotic nibbles. I have visited with giddy friends and sober family, irrespective of the company it's always a happy, friendly and delicious evening.

This was a fantastic find on Thursday night the menu is tapas but it's French you cry. Well actually it's more linked to the Cathor end of France close to Spain both in the food presentation and the drinks of the far south west including Limoux if you have not had it it's frances oldest champagne method drink predating champagne by about 300 years and much tastier and I'm a seigneur de Champagne! The tapas night is an aperitif go for the limoux trust me then your entree then a tapas of either fish meat or veg platter I had the meat pictured then if your still hungry a hot platter again meat fish or veg If you still have room there are a selection of sweets liqueurs and coffees overall a great night out great service and a bit of south West French influence in the most English of towns lovely

Visited on Sunday lunchtime, not really knowing too much about the place but being one of the few eateries on the High Street we could actually get in to! Staff was incredibly friendly, taking time to speak to the two children in our party and test them on their basic French! Reasonably small but appealing lunch menu (plus a kids menu) – omelettes, baguettes, paninis etc. My lunch choice was by far the best – the Croque Monsieur – large serving, delicious bread, basically the best ham and cheese toasty ever! I would go back for that alone. My only slight gripe was that we waited quite a while for someone to take our order, even after having caught the attention of front of house – it seems only one waitress was designated to take orders. Still, food came swiftly after that, and everything else more than made up for it – I wouldn’t hesitate to go back or recommend to others.

On a previous visit to the lovely Southwold we lunched here and is was an ok 'caf'. Now, however, it has had a makeover giving it a French feel with a tempting menu for a long lunch. We both had the ham and cheese omelette with fries which was a generous portion, delicious ham combined with mouthwatering cheese. Washed down with a strawberry smoothie we were all set for an walk along the beach! Great value and friendly and efficient service. We will back on our next visit!

We've had lunch here on both our visits to Southwold. The food is really good, a good selection, from things for lunch or a drink and a slice of cake in the morning or afternoon. The staff are very attentive and they made a real fuss of our little boy, making him the exact lunch he wanted. It gets busy due to its popularity but as its more of a cafe than restaurant, turnaround of tables is quick. Highly recommended.

Our first visit to Southwold saw us searching for somewhere to grab a bite to eat for lunch with our 15 month old. We walked up the high street and found Le Roc right at the end of it with what looked like a welcoming atmosphere and some nice food. We weren't disappointed on either count. The atmosphere was very friendly and the staff were equally pleasant. The owner (I assume) greeted us immediately and helped us get through the door with the pram. She then immediately apologised informing us that the child seats were broken and new ones had been ordered, this wasn't a problem as our son was quite happy in his pram. We were then given the menus and both ordered 'Le Classique' Croque Monsieur, the wife had a chocolate milkshake and we ordered a cheese sandwich for our son. The food was outstanding and having had Croque Monsieur in both France and England before I can safely say this is one of, if not the best one I've had. The bread was amazing, the ham sublime and the garlic mayonnaise that came with it in a small bowl was extremely tasty. The wife also thoroughly enjoyed hers and also her chocolate milkshake. We will almost certainly be going again.

Lovely range of food from snacks with an aperitif, to sharing plates (very large!) and then some small plates. Lots of fish and veggie options. All delivered with charming service. Good small wine list (a step up from the Adnams wine offerings). Definitely recommend. Only negative was the incessant French accordion music which was difficult to tune out. We booked a week ahead but it wasn't full.

With 2 friends visiting we popped in for a late lunch around 2.15pm. Despite living, literally round the corner we had never been to Le Roc before. Suffice to say we will be going back.Staff very friendly and attentive, menu is varied and on the day we went full of choice allbeit with a "french flavour".3 had variations on the omlette menu and all 3 were very happy wit their choices - the ham version was packed with ham.I had a warm smoked mackrell brioche which was delightfull full of mackrell and salad

A French inspired cafe serving simple food along the lines of croque monsieur, jacket potatoes, cakes, crepes etc. Very friendly and helpful staff. Well placed on Southwold high street; big glass windows perfect for watching the world walk by. Good value for money. Gets very busy at weekends.

Along with Enzo's opposite this is really the only place in Southwold worth eating at, all the rest are poor to mediocre at best. Here you get wonderful service and simple but beautifully cooked French style tapas in the evening (cafe the rest of day). Fantastic asset for Southwold in an otherwise culinary barren town.

My mother introduced my wife & I to this delightful French/English cafe and what a charming establishment it is. The owners Gerard & Matilde cannot do too much for you, making you welcome from the moment one walks through the door. Not gushing, just friendly and genuinely interested in what you want to drink or eat. I've been for lunch during the week on a few occasions now and the 3 Egg omelettes are superb. The French style menu offers lighter snacks as well as larger bites but nothing too pretentious. All well cooked, served well and always with a smile. We will definitely be back.

Cafe Mangolocation-icon134 Bevan Street EastBritish

This has been our first time since Carolyn has reopened, She has worked hard and decorated the restaurant with new furnishings and is nice and attractive. As always our food was plentiful and fresh, The roasts and liver, sausage, onion are superb. Breakfast are also filling and large. Carolyn and the girls are always polite and friendly and follow COVID restrictions, well done Carolyn the restaurant looks great.there are also seats outside if needed.
