Le Cochonnet in City of London, Westminster

Pizza with burned crust, wine of the cheapest quality and all overpriced. Not really a good experience, especially when the curly hair waiter brushes off our concern over the quality of pizza. Small business that operates as if there's no consequences for poor service. To avoid at any cost.

It's too expensive. Service was not the most attentive or polite. To put it mildly. Doubtlessly overpriced. One should not pay over 100 for pizza dinner for 2. Actually 1 pizza and 1 unimpressive salad niscoise which was too heavy and full of mayonnaise. Pizza base not crispy enough. We drank 3 x small bottles of beer and had 2 x bruschetta as starters. Although the atmosphere may not be as good- quite honestly, the pizza at pizza Express is better and half the price. Disappointing. Next time pizza Express

Chefs arguing and yelling at each other while my friends and I were trying to enjoy our evening. Surreal atmosphere to say the least. We had to leave the place before the situation escalated to something worse, as we didn’t feel safe.

Great place! We came for a causal Friday night dinner and were so pleasantly surprised - yum pizza, great wine and such lovely staff! We will definitely be back.

Fantastic bruchetta, really relaxed environment and friendly staff. Service was prompt and the N'Duja tasted great. They have a bar and will definately be stopping back here. Really cool spot, worth travelling for.

I am going to be honest, this is a place to go if you want a good portion pizza and pasta AND also ones that taste nice. It’s a nice little local restaurant in Maida Vale and I am glad to have this place as my local. The pasta dish I grabbed was so good- I asked it to be with fusilli instead, which is different to what is written on the menu, but they didn’t mind. The pizza is always freshly cooked, with nice seasoning as well. Only downside is the price point. I still don’t think, while the food is delicious, the price point they are charging is justified.

It has a buzzing atmosphere, but it's more of a bar that serves an attempt at Italian food, rather than a true Italian restaurant (think of what one would make from the supermarket bought, heat in the oven jobs). The wait staff are worked off their feet. Clearly needed one more person. Had to ask 5 times for water, and still didn't get it.

The best pizzas in London! (And usually I don't like pizzas...) viva la cucina italiana!

We requested to have half pizza without cheese but they said that they are too busy to do it! So one person couldn't have pizza....not very customer friendly

It is only one word to describe this amazing place perfect 10... The beautiful roman pizza reminded me of going to this place as a teen 30 years ago.......I think they ve been operating since mid 80's....highly recommended

Came here for brunch, beautiful sunny day, all the doors opened back. Had a delicious eggs royal with a latte. Lovely atmosphere, staff were friendly. Look forward to returning in the near future!!

We went to Le Cochonnet and immediately we were seated, the service was extremely quick; our pizzas arrived in no time at all! The pizzas were absolutely amazing, we ordered blancas: pizzas with garlic , cheese and no tomato. (We only tried the pizzas so we cant comment on any of the dishes but they looked amazing from what we could see.) We would definitely return to this restaurant again , on the off chance that we were seated further away from the bar. The bar was decorated beautifully and the atmosphere was lovely, however I can’t help but comment on the fact that we felt like the chefs were staring too much . We are two teenage girls and we could constantly see the staff non welcomingly staring at us , and when we hinted that we were uncomfortable, they continued to stare at us constantly most of the time we were eating, so much so that we got takeaway boxes and decided to eat the pizzas in a local garden. Other than this issue, we had a lovely experience.

Delicious seafood dish. Top class. But £10- 20 per person is unrealistic. I couldn't find anything for £10 on the menu and if you have a couple of beers that's £10. So it's more like £20- £30

First time I've been there, only popped in for a coffee with my partner. Appears to have a great atmosphere, polite, friendly staff. Food smelt great so we will definitely try over the next few weeks.

We had a bad experience, we were outside watching the waiters pass in front of the entrance-door 3 times and the 4th time we were invited in, but they did not try to open the door for us, very weird. Then the waiter did not have us in the hand-made reservations list (we booked 3 hours before our reservation) so they had no idea we were coming and we ended up having a table with smell of cigar. For some reason the waiter let my girlfriend sit but didn't let me sit until she had given us the menus, it is quite weird to receive the menus while standing. Then when she took our plates to the table she asked who would have my plate and decided to serve me before my girlfriend, this is basic hospitality training you always serve the woman first, the plates were not heavy so it would have taken the same effort to serve my girlfriend first rather than me and I find the fact that the waiter served me first rude. When I finished eating, the waiter took my plate away in literally less than a minute, usually I like this, unless my girlfriend is still eating which was the case and is rude against her. Then when paying the bill, the waiter came and banged the bill infront of me and then stood up looking at me, like waiting for a reaction... Positives I always order take away from this restaurant, because their pizza is always good and this occasion was not the exemption (+1), the barman and Male waiters were polite and extra attentive (+1) on the contrary of the waiter who served us. I probably should have given less stars, given so many things went wrong in my customer experience, nevertheless my girlfriend didn't take much notice of these and we still manage to enjoy the food and our company.

Nice meal at Le Cochonnet, 2 adults shared a pizza and some fries, and we ordered a kids penne pomodoro for our 1 ½ year old. Pizzas are a great size, chips were very tasty, as was the pasta which was also pretty big for a kids portion. Not much of a kids menu, just 3 pasta dishes offered at a smaller size, but that does the job at a pizza and pasta place! Price wise, it wasn't cheap but an expected London price, we paid £47 for our meal, which included a 'service charge', though we were still asked if we wanted to leave a gratuity. Kid friendly place and overall we'd go again for a quick, tasty meal!

Lovely restaurant and bar. I know them for their pizza, mainly, so I cant comment too much on the other dishes. But the pizzas are great, they have a nice thin, chewy (in a good way), and tasty crust. The tomato sauce has a delicious sweetness to it, and the cheese tastes good without overpowering. I only remove 1 star because I think the prices are a little bit on the high side. I would not recommend getting Le Cochonnet pizza at these prices purely for the pizza. But as an experience to go out and have a nice meal on a charming parade of shops, with a wonderful, welcoming, and friendly staff, it is worth it!

Been coming here for 20+ years but really feel that the quality of food is below average and does not represent good value for money. It used to be a default option for the local area but there are better options. Staff and service good.

Lovely meal before visiting BBC Maida Vale studios for an afternoon recording, a 5 minute walk away. Friendly welcome, good service and delicious food was provided for a tired and hungry visitor. Thank you. Recommend the Puttanesca Pizza, Earl Grey Panna Cotta and a full flavoured espresso.

Don't go hungry. Place has a rustic trattoria vibe. Football playing and men smoking outside. With this in mind we imagined the £20 mains of wild boar pasta and £18.50 Ravioli would be substantial. I went with my partner. I'm 6,4 and a big chap. She's slight and a 5,2 woman. We both agreed this was ridiculous portion size. If they had given it as a childs portion you would have complained on behalf of your child. My partner counted 6 tiny ravioli on her plate. Wish I had taken a photo. We had to stop for a halouomi wrap on the way home. *Giving 2 stars as the minisule amount of food there was tasted pretty good and I'm not about tanking a small businesses ratings.

Just came to get a pizza and had to change my previous 5* review. The pizza I just got was terrible. Barely any toppings and the top looked like it was just tomato sauce. A once great spot which was always busy but now not. Not really a surprise it was completely empty

This place would get 5 stars - its a great location, food is delicious etc. I gave it three because of the unpleasant and incompetent waitress, who seems to feature frequently in these reviews. Her colleagues were clearly embarrassed and made a significant effort to compensate for her.

I think the menu has improved and the food is quite decent now. They have a wide variety of pastas, pizzas and other Italian food. That said, the pizzas could be a bit better - especially the dough. The toppings are quite good. (Turns out they keep changing their chef / pizza chef... Would be great to have some consistently good pizza, otherwise it's hit and miss) Service is usually really good; well done to all the lovely staff. 👍🏻 Will definitely go back.

We stumbled upon this place over bank holiday weekend and stayed for the good vibes and generous portions. It has a neighbourhood feel being nestled amongst the side roads but only a few minutes from a tube. The restaurant aesthetic is clean, bold and bright, with almost a beach bar feel and perfect for summer evenings. There's a range of seating with booths, tables and outdoor options so this works for groups, couples, families etc. They were only serving pizza that night which was pretty perfect for us. The staff were really friendly. Big thanks to Eddy who made sure I could get a vegan friendly option. Only rated 4 not 5 because its on the expensive side as pizza places go (but there's a bigger menu on offer usually)

Lovely place to stop for a quick lunchtime pizza and salad Lovely little place for a quick glass of wine. If you're hungry they also do food! My favourite is the Honolulu, but controversial as it has pineapple on!. I tend to go when it's not busy, that way service is better, as when full inside the service can be a little slow. I have frequented for years, mainly due to the staff whom are lovely!

Ok! Absolutely lovely staff! They smile and are polite ! It’s not a given ! Food is amazing, coffee is perfect, prices are fair! Wine collection is fine. A lovely place at a lovely spot for Italian food lovers. Missed it terribly during covid.

We come here a lot. Very family friendly and a nice setting in the conservatory. My kids love the pizzas and the speghetti vongole is great. Love their cappucino, its one of my favourite.

Very disappointing experience. On entering the restaurant, my partner and I felt unwelcome with staff acting dismissive and treating us as a nuisance for asking to be seated at one of the many empty tables. After finding ourselves a table, I ventured inside myself to make some enquiries about the menu contents. The majority of staff were frankly miserable, as well as arrogant; as if they were doing us some great favour by allowing us to dine at the restaurant. We left shortly afterwards feeling quite uncomfortable and also upset, since we have been regular customers in the past. I am sure the food is still great but customer service seriously needs some attention.

Service was well below par tonight 14 May 22. Waited 40 minutes for food. Lack of staff and lesser quality of food. They got so many things wrong. Terrible shame but I won’t be going back unless the management improve the situation. Such a shame. Used to be a great place.

Awful service Saturday night! Forgetful staff, didn't get single thing right. Had to chase them for every thing. All waiters/waitresses were poor. The only reason giving 2 stars is because the aperols were nice, after waiting 20 mins for them to arrive. Absolute joke.

Have been a regular customer but it was a very poor service today from a waiter who was half awake and not really interested in serving us. We ordered water in the beginning and it arrived after our meal. Had to ask the guy for everything including spoon etc. as it was not brought to the table. Sadly it’s getting worse although pizza is still fine.

Having recently moved to London from the US, we've been looking for our Friday night pizza spot. Can't believe we found it right up the street! The seafood pizza at Le Cochonnet is the BEST pizza we have ever had...and we've had a lot - all over the world! To round out the evening, the service, wine list, and music were all excellent. Excited to try other dishes which all looked great, but most excited to enjoy many a Friday nights eating pizza at Le Cochonnet!

Once the pizzas arrived the conversation turned from how cold it was outside to how delicious the pizza tasted!

Best meal in five years. Lamp chops, Bolognese, tiramisu, and creme brulee were all wonderful.

The best restaurant in Maida Vale decaying. I have being here hundreds of time but lately less frequently. I visited last week and still the service and ambience was 5 starts, excellent as usual. Regrettable the food failed. We ask for a Lasagna that use to be fantastic and move to pathetic (no meat, no sauces, extremely poor quality and mega expensive). Fortunately the pizza still are Ok

Decided to go here for my little cousins 16th birthday as it’s local to us - we were served by the most miserable waitress who looked like she really didn’t want to be there. We ordered our starters first as we were still undecided on what we wanted for our mains. Once we finished our starters it took around 30-40 minutes before the waitress came back to our table to clear our plates and take our order, our order which never came. After an hour of watching food come out of the kitchen and being served to everyone else but us, we realised they had forgotten about our food. Our waitress by this point had forgotten we existed so I politely asked another waitress if there was food actually being made for us and she went to ask. Turns out we were right, they had forgotten about us and offered to take the service charge off our starters... we didn’t pay for any of it. Really disappointing service. Message to the miserable waitress: if you don’t like your job, quit.

Good food - pizzas are lovely. Sit in or out or takeaway. This place is part of Maida Vale and has been open in the area for over 20 years… it’s charming inside and out. A good selection of bottled beers and wines - cocktails served with a variety of tasty Italian food. The service very good - served by a very charming, warm South African chap called Giulio. He made our evening with great service, charm and warmth. Recommended.

Sad to see this restaurant has so many low rated reviews. Visited today with a party of 12, the service was a little slow but the food was fantastic & the friendly staff more than made up for it! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for the amazing pasta and staff who went out of their way and well above and beyond to accommodate us.

Lovely local pizza restaurant. We were taken by our friend who lives in Maida Vale and it’s a real gem. Lovely staff, the owner Pete is really friendly and tells a great story (he’s had the restaurant for 35 years). Tables outside mean you can soak up the ambience on a warm evening and the clientele seem to be lots of local residents who all know each other. Really fun place to sit and people watch. Good wine, good pizza and try the calamari which are excellent. Definitely recommend.

Our sunday lunch visit was disappointing. We sat at a table for over 25 mins before I had to get up and go to the waitress to ask if she had seen us....she gave me some menus....during these 25 mins two other lots of clients arrived, after us, and got drinks and ordered! At this point we got up and left as we felt totally ignored. As new W9 residents we were very disappointed in this establishment. Sadly it has put us off and we wont be going back.

Food was delicious and customer service was friendly. Seating could be better. I loved where we were seated but we had really loud obnoxious people right near us. This is more about how some customers behave but it could have been dealt with better with more spaced out tables and chairs. After a strict lockdown, you would think spaced out table and chairs would be the norm, but I felt that they squeezed our tables too close (too much by even pre-pandemic standard). I don't think I have been that close to a stranger in a long time plus I could not stretch my legs. Plus I was surprised there was no NHS track and trace system? We also made a booking in advance, but the people who were squeezed next to us clearly did not make a booking - we heard everything about their conversations as they were loud, selfish and unaware of their surroundings. I understand that times are difficult but these sorts of customers who are allowed to act selfishly will only make it worse and the bad seating plans/no track and trace won't help. Its also worth noting that those with loud voices - their noise travels and echoes underneath those umbrellas! The umbrellas and heating is a great idea, but customers should make an advance booking (and hence be treated the same as everyone else) and tables should be spaced out to ensure we are not squeezed in. The majority of customers were lovely and quiet but I suppose we were unlucky being next to that table which kept attracting loud people who did not make bookings and forcefully moved their chairs right up to our table.

Went here during 'outside only' rules. PLENTY of outside tables stretching right round the corner - always a chance of getting a sunny spot! Staff are friendly and great attitude. I had sausage and mash, and friend had bacon brioche bap - both very good. I also saw pizzas coming out that looked great, charcuterie sharing plate, and homemade 'refreshers' and lemonades that also looked great. Will be coming back.

This place is my local - very convenient to where I live, where I play tennis, where my kids go to school and play sport. I want to support a local non-chain business instead of ordering from Papa Johns (though Papa Johns is also convenient and is cheaper). I don't want 'the Cosh' to go under and become an empty storefront or a business that I wouldn't like. Hence I want it to be a thriving business and so I go there for pizzas sometimes with my family. BUT I go in spite of the service. I have been going for 15 years and I'm not sure if it has been the same lousy manager or a series of managers but the service is never right. They get things wrong, they struggle to sort out issues when they arise. It's hard to remember the numerous bad experiences over the years but a simple recent example is this: I ordered a G&T and I got handed unappetising pint glass filled to the brim with Gin and what must have been Tonic on tap with artificial sweetener in it. I took a sip and they asked the waiter if it had sweetener in it because I hate artificial sweetener. He said he'd check and then never came back. That's typical. I just gave up and paid for a drink I didn't want rather than try to convince an apathetic, incompetent waiter to care about the customer experience. A few years ago I had friends who moved to the neighbourhood and we welcomed them by taking them out to the Coch and the service was soooo terrible that night (it took an hour to bring the food to our kids and when it did come the order was wrong and the waiter was rude about it) that our friends vowed never to go back. This place opened in 1985. How could they not have figured out how to hire and train staff to provide good service in 35 years? Just look at all the bad review here and on Google reviews, mainly about the service. It's not just me!While London is in Tier 2 Covid restrictions which means no household mixing indoors I saw a table with 3 middle aged American couples at the Coch. I think it is very unlikely that the people at the table lived in the same household. As a result, and despite fanfare in signs on the wall about some kind of air filter they've installed, I'm not convinced the Coch are following the Covid restriction guidelines closely enough to protect the staff, the customers and the business.
