Tragic that Caprice might close, the restaurant in London with the godfather of maitre’ de’s Jesus having been enjoying since 1982 it will be sadly massively missed

Had a business lunch at Le Caprice last Thursday, with a client from San Francisco, and yet again the food service were absolutely outstanding. The steak tartare was incredible. The Dover sole was probably the best I have ever had.I learnt today that Le Caprice has been forced to close - which is heartbreaking! London has lost probably its finest restaurant!

Normally difficult to get a table at short notice but we virtually had the whole restaurant to ourselves at 7 pm on a Thursday. This was due to local hotel occupancy rates being severely depressed and people working from home due to Covid 19. This empty, there was atmosphere lacking but service excellent. Good choice of all courses and I particularly enjoyed the octopus starter. Grilled cod main course cooked to perfection with large moist flakes of fish. Crime brûlée with rhubarb and coffee to finish. A good choice of wines but the markup is excessive.

Met a friend for dinner here. It is hardly outstanding food but well presented, tasty and not massively overpriced considering its location. £170 for 2.5 courses including a decent bottle of wine and sparkling water. The atmosphere was vibrant by the time we left, having started early when it was comparatively quiet. Recommended.

The restaurant was lovely, the staff were excellent and we really enjoyed the food . However when I asked where the ladies toilets were I was shown to a very steep and long staircase going down . I told the waiter I couldn't get down or up the stairs and he apologised , but said there was no accessible toilet. This was a big problem for me and we I had to wait until we got back to our hotel on the South Bank.

The food is always of a high quality and one of us was tempted by the watercress soup special starter and was not disappointed. Equally one of us went for the main venison special & was not disappointed. Star of the day though was the aubergine side dish - very tasty! Service is always good as there are plenty of staff. Decent value for money in the West End

Close relatives visiting from Edinburgh. So we took them to Le Caprice which is a favourite restaurant of our. However, the restaurant was unbearably noisy at times because of a table of 7 very loud men. I’m sure others were disturbed by the over intrusive noise of this group of men. Air conditioning was too cold on our backs and the woman at the table next to us had to wrap herself in scarves to avoid getting colder. Other than that, the food and service were good but the noise and the cold was a big negative for us.

The welcome was warm and the service attentive but not overbearing. The food itself was very good, we had a number of different dishes and everyone commented on how they were beautifully presented and tasted great. Two small negatives, firstly the tables are a tad too close to each other and secondly, not unlike many other London restaurants, the wines are way overpriced.

Very warm and helpful welcome. We were joined by four other guests and the service was very good for 6 us, during a busy midweek lunchtime. The menu was varied and interesting. The crispy duck salad starter, was recommended and did not disappoint. It was delicious. Very good selection on the wine list too. This is definitely a classic restaurant, that has perfected all that’s on offer. Definitely will return and highly recommend it.

We’d enjoyed Le Caprice on previous trips to London - we also enjoy its “sister” establishments, J Sheekey and The Ivy. This most recent visit was on the Sunday evening between Christmas and New Year’s and we’d reserved a few weeks in advance. The bar and dining room were very busy, and we were initially unhappy that they sat us at a table next to the door into the kitchen and adjacent to where the jazz group was due to perform. There were no other available tables, so we stayed put and it was just fine, especially once the performance began. Food and service were very good and we lingered after our meal to enjoy the rest of our wine and the excellent music. Le Caprice really never disappoints and is a part of our London “routine” that we very much look forward to.

Lovely. From start to end. This restaurant and the team of professionals running it were just tip top and executed at a high level. But! Without one really noticing them. Not fussy or overdone-just extremely competent and attentive to our entire visit. A welcoming Maitre d, hostess and coat check greeted us. A lovely pianist was gently playing-great background but could still hold a conversation and led to a table just perfect for our party. I don’t believe one could complain about any table choice-it’s a just right sized establishment. The menu selections are enough variety but not so many one needs to overthink order. If wine of particular importance? Guidance was offered but not pushed and their reserve visually looked well stocked and well curated. The two in our party who ordered were quite pleased to try something new based off suggestion by server and they both were surprised it met/exceeded what they had planned on ordering a familiar label. We had the tuna, yellow belly sashimi(2) & beet salad as starters. The Dover Sole, Salmon w/poached eggs and the lamb as entree’s. Desserts we splurged and each ordered a choice: chocolate mousse dipped in /chocolate ganache, apple pie compote, cheese cake and creme brûlée. There was not a misstep in the entire dinner service. It was delicious, visually beautiful and we were delighted. The reason I gave 4 stars for value is I would not want to misdirect anyone who might be using my review to make a decision and misunderstand my intention. We felt it was a huge value. In this respect-to get all the elements written in review? Easily our tab could have been almost doubled at a few other dining choices we were contemplating for that night’s reservation. But this establishment is in Central London and 1 block behind Ritz Carlton. Dining in most restaurants of the caliber of Le Caprice in this area is a higher tab commitment. We felt worth every bit and then some. We each left vowing to return to Le Caprice.

Very nice food but the overall experience was sadly lacking. We had a 4pm late afternoon booking on New Year's Eve. This was a wrong decision as it was towards the end of lunch service but before the early evening diners arrived. The table we were allocated, thoughtlessly, was situated in a section of the restaurant where most diners were leaving or had left, whereas the main section was still fairly bustling and there were tables available. For some reason, the bass of the sound system was booming away with no semblance of music, so I asked the waiter to see if he could sort it - it was resolved. I had to ask for the candle on the table to be lit which helped the atmosphere a little. The tables were being relaid and there was a massive crashing of cutlery that was unnecessary - we asked if it could be quietened a little. The waiters were generally very friendly and accommodating but the Maitre d' decided that as we had raised a few issues he wanted to put his oar in. Rather than being pleasant and placating us, he simply went on the defensive and that irritated us even further. We eventually ordered a nice bottle of 'Picpoul de Pinet' and then ordered the food. After a while, the wrong order of starters was brought to the table - confusion reigned. The correct food finally arrived which was very tasty. I opted for the Foie Gras with a warm rhubard tart - very nice. My wife went for the Duck and Pineapple salad starter and thought it very good whereas my daughter opted for the octopus which she thoroughly enjoyed. Two ordered the Prawn Burger and thought it very good, whereas I went for the Chicken Escalope that in fairness was really good. I accompanied this with mid cut chips and cauliflower cheese. it was very filling but tasty. All in all, the food was very good, not exceptional, but the ambiance and overall experience left a huge amount to be desired such that we wouldn't return, despite the fact that we have eaten at Le Caprice several times and have previously rated it. Clearly, the management knew that something was wrong and removed the service charge from the bill before giving it to me - at least this saved me the embarrassment of removing it, as the overall experience was less than satisfactory, despite the fact that the kitchen turned out good food!

Shocking service and one of the worst restaurants I have visited. We had to keep asking for our wine to be topped up (the bottle was not on the table), in the end we found the wine and topped up ourselves. I had to ask for the vegetarian menu several times. I ordered the mac and cheese and what came out looked similar to what comes out of a packet at home. We asked for one more drink but they requested the table back which was fair enough and were advised we could have a drink at the bar. Once we got to the bar, we were told they were too busy and had to leave....we had just spent £480 (there were four of us). The front of house manager was just as rude as the rest of the waiting staff. There are far nicer restaurants in the area where the service is far better, do not waste your time and money in here. By experience of today's visit. For such a renowned London restaurant, pretty poor. Service was distinctly amateur at times, nice Italian girl obviously - too obviously - at the beginning of her careeer. Barely sat down before pushing for drinks decisions. Not au fait with menu contents, very poor English, and mumbled incomprehensively. Sloppy - wine and water were both spilled when pouring. Waitron neglected to advise that mains did not come with veg du jour, so we got out of kilter when the sides we ordered late as a result arrived when the mains were nearly done. Given the reputation - and prices charged- disappointing in the extreme. Complacency has come in and management have taken their eye off the ball. Not recommended, food no better than "OK", which, frankly, for dining at this level, is not good enough. Suggest they need to have senior colleagues from other restaurants visit as "mystery diners" and give feedback.

We have been Le Caprice fans for over twenty years, and consider it to be the benchmark against which we measure restaurants all around the world. Sadly, we only get the opportunity to visit perhaps once a year. Tonight, we visited for the first time for more than a year, and were blown away again. Jesus, Paul, and all the rest of the team provide a charming welcome, but the consistent quality of the food remains the star. Sashimi, ceviche, tiger prawns, chicken Milanese, creamed spinach and thin chips, were all absolute perfection,as was a stunning Picpoul de Pinet. Some people do not seem to understand the perfect formula that Le Caprice has. Long may it continue to be the perfect restaurant.

Service impeccable, decor impressive, atmosphere warm. Wine excellent. Food very average so not wonderful value for money. Dessert plate consisted of mass produced looking 'petit-fours' - not what I would have expected a restaurant of this quality to serve. Overall experience very good.

Delightful, sophisticated restaurant. Charming space, excellent food, top of the line service, good wine list. Would return in an instant.

Worst service ever at a 'fine' restaurant. Not only was the service horrible, but no one gave a flip about it. We were a party of four. Most of us are 'glass half full' kind of people, but we all left aghast at the experience, and not in a good way. The reservation was for 2 hours. We arrived at 6:30 pm and ordered cocktails from one server. The order was apparently lost. We ordered again from another server and were brought the wrong drinks. Finally at 7:40 pm we got them. We told them we would probably not be out in 2 hours now that we only had 40 minutes to eat, and someone (a manager?) said no problem! At 8:30 pm someone else came and asked if we would move tables to accommodate the next party. We never saw the same waiter/manager twice. The atmosphere was chaotic, no one knew what they were doing. This is only a hint of how bad it was, due to space here in the comments. The details would horrify you. I stopped before leaving to speak with someone (a manager? couldn't tell) and express my disappointment. The basic attitude was 'Sorry, we're busy, please leave." Btw, the food was just passable.

The service was slow. This was probably our 10th time to this restaurant with the same other couple. The lady at the next table fell off her chair hitting one of us and throwing her red wire all over and literally covered our table mid meal. The restaurant’s response was to put down some napkins over the table but when they soaked through and with a bit of prodding they changed out the table cloth. Then as our desserts and coffee were arriving the waiter said our time was up and we needed to leave the table. Stupidly we complied and were seated in the doorway entrance to the restaurant for the desserts and coffee. No apologies or concessions. No offer of an after dinner drink. Just the same haughty attitude and slow service which along with having to redo the table because of the thrown wine caused the two hour rule to be exceeded and it was rigidly enforced. We are still talking about it days later. The

Food was excellent with very good service and buzzing atmosphere. Only criticism is that you have to be out within 2 hours if you have an early table.

Food was excellent. But table was right by the entrance so we had people walking past all night, and we were very close to the bar. I was also presented with the WRONG bill. No one checked on any course if we were ok with our food.

The service was good and the staff very attentive. The food was good with excellent attention to detail. The menu gave the customer plenty of choice without being to fussy and the pricing was very reasonable

lovely place, came here on sunday and they had a live jazz band playing which complimented the atmosphere. Had the steak tartare which was very tasty, and the cookie dough for sweet, which was so good.

Why have I never been here before, I ask myself. Buzzy atmosphere, friendly staff - attentive without being too in your face - and a great meal: cocktails at the bar, scallops and rib eye with (piles and piles of) seriously good fries. Didn’t really have room for pudding but couldn’t resist a skillet containing a melting chocolate chip cookie topped with milk ice cream. And thank goodness I didn’t. I could eat it every day. Yes, I would soon be unable to exit through the revolving doors but I feel it would be worth it.

I booked dinner here as it was very close to my hotel and thoroughly enjoyed my evening. I booked a seat at the bar and as far as I was concerned it was the best seat in the house. I not only enjoyed the service but the food was also excellent as were the cocktails and the live music made my evening over the top. I would highly recommend this restaurant and have put on my list as a must do when in London again.

I took a friend for her birthday. We had the set menu at £27 for 2 courses. Excellent value. Squash with stilton and pumpkin seeds to start and steak with rocket and parmesan. Good size piece of meat, nicely cooked. Service was very friendly and unobtrusive.

Used Amazon Deal voucher. Nice surroundings. Very polite staff, but our wine at £40 (per very average tasting bottle), was kept well away from us, and we had to repeatedly ask for our glasses to be re-filled! Because of this, we didn't even finish it!...

Gorgeous cafe with great coffee & cake, staff and music and a play area for children & their carers. Quiet and friendly and easy and we are all so sad the Snug is closing :(
