Le Bouchon in Maldon

We visited last weekend to celebrate a very special birthday for my Mother-in-law, and couldn’t have been more delighted with our experience. Our host for the evening, Emma, was so wonderful and really looked after us brilliantly. Every single member of our group had an empty plate at the end of every course, and raved enthusiastically about how incredible their meal had been. Can’t recommend this outstanding venue highly enough, and our family are already looking for excuses to go back!

We celebrated our Mothers 80th Birthday at Le Bouchon in their private dining room. The service provided by Emma & her team was fantastic from arrival to leaving. They were fantastic, attentive & always happy to help. The food was delicious, hot & very well presented. Everyone of the 11 of us souldnt sing high enough praise of the evening & making it a memorable celebration for Mum ! Thank you to you all !

We held my parents Diamond Wedding Anniversary celebrations at Le Bouchon this weekend with drinks in the bar on Saturday afternoon, followed by a delicious three course meal for 17 (plus baby) in the private dining room and breakfast in the orangery. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left on Sunday morning after breakfast, we could not have been looked after any better. This is a beautiful boutique hotel with the most welcoming staff who could not do enough for us. Special mention go out to Clare who looked after our every need during our stay, Clare (Reservation Manager) who made booking so easy, James (GM), Emma, Jacob (who makes a great cocktail), Amy (who managed to co-ordinate all the breakfast orders with a huge smile) and a special mention to James our server for the evening – nothing was too much trouble. All make Le Bouchon the very special place that it is. This really was a ‘home from home’ experience that we have never experienced anywhere else. We can’t wait to return.

Excellent, friendly but not over-stuffy greeting. Natural welcome and order taking from waitress. Young waiter splashed large quantity of gravy over the table as he lowered the plate, for which he apologised, but didn’t offer any additional gravy. Close-up magician was nice unexpected touch (his tone was perfect for the surroundings). Our departure was also subtly but warmly acknowledged which rounded off an enjoyable experience. Food-wise, the duck croquette, singular on plate but plural on menu, was underwhelming predominantly through lack of seasoning. Main roast was a substantial meal and the vegetables were the best we’d had for a Sunday roast. Desserts were well presented and the right size following such a large roast. Would happily return.

Booked for a special occasion, was slightly disappointed with our table position as was amongst large groups who were particularly noisy. My main gripe was the time allowed between our starter and main course, our main was served before we had time to digest our starter. Also our mains weren’t particularly hot, which is probably why they were rushed to us. Again we were offered a dessert before we had time to digest the main course, it was as if they were trying to rush us out. Disappointed as this was meant to be a special occasion.

We have been quite a few times and never been disappointed. But today we had the French menu and it was outstanding. The service was excellent as always . Would highly recommend this restaurant

Fantastic lunch. We chose the set French menu and it was such good value for money. food was plentiful and very tasty. The service was brilliant, attentive but not too much and the lady that served us was lovely. I scored only 3 stars for ambience as it was so quiet at lunchtime, would have been nice if more people were in but it didnt spoil anything. Will be back!

We visited for the first time today and booked lunch. What an amazing experience! From the moment we were greeted,everything was simply lovely. We were offered 2 menus but decided to order from the French Classics set menu. The food was sublime and the service was outstanding! Also astonishing value for money! We will definitely dine here again. I must also take a moment to commend our server Emma, who was amazing and so friendly! A great ambassador for Le Bouchon

What a fabulous experience, all staff were exceptional with outstanding customer service, a big thank you to Henry the manager who went above and beyond and made our afternoon so special, we cant wait to return.

Very nice restaurant, good food and very professional staff. Some delay waiting for the menus but it did not spoil the meal, I would highly recommend this restaurant, it is far better than most in this part of Essex

One of my favourite restaurants in and around the chelmsford area. Excellent staff and consistently wonderful food. We had the tasting menu which was really good - try it.

Valentines meal for my husband and myself, shown to our table promptly and coats taken. Menus given quickly, choice of A La Carte or a Valentine Special, both menus quite a variety. Starter of Chicken Parfait adapted with sour dough bread for me, large portion for a starter, very tasty. My husband had the beef choice for main, requested medium to well cooked but was a little on the rare side but not enough to want it changed. I had the lamb, it was delicious. Cheese for desert which again was a large portion. Overall the food was very good, not overly priced either. The atmosphere is very good, felt comfortable there and not rushed, waitress assured us the table was ours for the evening which enables you to relax a bit more, lots of restaurants we go to have two sittings, ie Smiths, which only leaves you a two hour slot, therefore does lead to you feeling pressured. Would definitely go back to Le Bouchon Brasserie.

Booked a table for valentines lunch time, it was quite in the restaurant so not much atmosphere but even still service was all ok but just not great and felt it let down the experience, plus the chocolate dessert was disappointing and dare I say a tad bland, sorry but compared to the rest of the food it was a let down!

Attended a party here and could not fault the attention to detail. Staff were very helpful all night and the buffet was very good quality.

Very quiet on arrival so had some qualms but the welcome could not have been warmer or more efficient and the food and wine were of excellent quality and value. We will certainly be back - highly recommended.

Despite living only 8 miles away our first visit to the resturant tonight. How refreshing to find such a fabulous resturant with great attentive staff, outstanding good food, beautiful surroundings in an area where many other establishments have failed to deliver. My wife and I just had a date night and Le Bouchon made that special. We will be back soon and have already told many friends. Please do not change. Terry Mullins

Visited Le Bouchon on Saturday night for a 60th birthday party, the venue was fully dedicated to the event and wanted to write a review because the atmosphere, food, drink and venue itself was fantastic. The best experience was the staff, they were extremely helpful and attentive not only to the hosts but also the guests, nothing was too much trouble and they were genuinely caring & focused on everyone having a good time. I would 100% recommend to anyone who is thinking of booking or going to enjoy their services, outstanding!

Staff were very welcoming and helpful from the start. James recommended a wine I wouldn't have thought of and everything went smoothly from there.

Great to be back at Le Bouchon and find that the quality is as high as ever. One of out favourite places for a special meal.

Had a weekend stay at this hotel. It was really lovely, the room was nice does need touching up in places other than that it was clean, fresh and bed was comfy. Breakfast was very tasty and went down well each morning. Had dinner in the restaurant and the scallops were amazing! Food was so tasty and presented perfectly, service was attentive. I feel the need to mention Emma such a lovely lady really makes you feel really welcome and goes out of her way to make your stay special! Thank you for a lovely weekend.

Sunday lunchtime is bound to be busy but the staff were welcoming and helpful. The trio of roasts is great if you have an enormous appetite and don't mind putting on a couple of kilos. There were some delays but they gave us free coffee as a goodwill gesture.

We went for lunch and enjoyed the 3 course Christmas set menu. Excellent all round - decor, atmosphere, service and especially the food. Very fair prices as well. Top marks

Went for our normal pre Xmas dinner and the night was great. The food and service was good. Had the venison and it was delicious. A great start to the 2023 xmas celebrations.

Food better than ever and service excellent despite being extremely busy night in the restaurant

We have just had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel. The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We were there for a local wedding and they were so accommodating and made our time there very special. Our room was really comfortable with plenty of towels and coffee and tea facilities. Hotel bar and restaurant were really extremely well run with plenty of staff. Food was excellent. Really nice area with lots to do. Thoroughly recommend it.

My friends and I enjoyed a lovely Christmas lunch on the 20th December. The food was cooked to perfection and the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.

Would thoroughly recommend to prospective diners. Food quality, taste, presentation and value were exceptional. The menu offered an impressive choice of courses including gluten free options which our party required and were equally delicious. The service was friendly, very customer focused and professional. Emma and Henry in particular were their usual delightfully attentive selves- can't wait to come back again !

Amazing restaurant hidden in Heybridge . Those in the know want this gem to remain a secret , but I’m happy to share what great food , ambiance and staff are waiting for you when you visit . Ladies Xmas lunch for us three friends on Friday . Even though they were full , local company having their Christmas party , we were given good, prompt service throughout , nothing too much trouble .

Gem of a place. Christmas lunch was very good. Food well prepared and portions were generous. Service was very good , certainly enough staff and it was good to see a local restaurant so busy. The meals were good value. Each main came with seasonal veg and Cauliflower cheese. Great choice of starters. The main Christmas meal was just what we wanted with a lovely gravy too. Desserts were delicious and again there was a good choice on offer. The food was very well cooked and presented. The Chefs deserve a well done alongside the waiters & waitresses. All in all a lovely friendly place to start the Christmas time!

Hadn't been to le bouchon for many years and was very pleased that the standard of food and service was still as high as when we last came here and at a reasonable price! Sunday lunch was perfect for ourselves and our friends and as we have moved back into the area will no doubt be visiting again very soon.

The food was delicious and portions just right. The people waiting on table were extremely helpful and polite.

I would have gave the Hotel 5 start, as the staff was excellent from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. I stay with my Wife as a Birthday treat in a Kings superior room under stay and dine. The room and hotel was clean. The food was excellent with excellent service from the restaurant staff. I would recommend and use in the future. The only reason I did not give a 5 is because when picking the room you can see pictures that correspond the rooms. The King superior shows four poster beds, ok I can understand that they may not have a four poster bed in every King superior room but when I look again at the picture before I left the room we was in was a picture for King luxury room. I did bring this up with the receptionist when leaving and apologised to say we were in a Kings superior room.

What can I say? 5 stars for everything, couldn't find a single fault. The food was some of the best I've ever had. Literally every bite of every element was delicious! The staff were very polite, friendly and attentive. Not to mention helpful. The atmosphere was great, we went on a quieter night of the week so it wasn't massively busy, but that's fine for us, made it more intimate. The value is great too, I genuinely went there expecting to have to fork out (no pun intended) a good £200+, but they offer 20% off for diners seated between 6pm-6:30pm, but to be fair, the cost even before the discount was far less than I expected, and this was for 3 courses and a cocktail each! All in all, I absolutely would recommend Le Bouchon to anyone and am absolutely going to be returning in future.

This is our go to restaurant for meals out with friends, weekend treats or special occasions. Consistently good food and service which always makes it something to look forward to. The specials menu ensures the food is kept exciting and a varied choice for frequent visits - the squid risotto is amazing Emma and the team make the whole experience fabulous. Food is to die for! The lamb was delicious and cooked to perfection. Excellent ambience and service. For a fine dinner it wasn't excessively expensive. I would definitely go to this restaurant again.

Our meal and service was excellent. Our only comment was that we would have appreciated more green vegetables. Our vegetable side order came with potatoes and we all already had potatoes on our plates. Other than that it was excellent.

We enjoyed lovely cocktails in the Bar area. Red wine we chose was lovely. The Scallops were the best ever we have had anywhere. The Lemon Sole was cooked to perfection and was the best had so far from a range of restaurants we have been to. Crab starter was great. Monk fish was quite thick and 'meaty', nothing wrong with it but cannot compare to the Lemon Sole. Oysters a little shrivelled, not plump. Staff attentive. I recommend this restaurant highly.

Was a lovely experience, however I was shocked at the price of my 175 ml glass of Sancerre at £18. I should have asked for the house wine. Whilst realising this is a hotel & their prices reflect that to an extent, I was relieved I didn’t have a second glass at that price !! 😲😲😲

The food has improved tenfold since our last visit. Lighting is a bit bright. Staff friendly and professional. Had 3 courses each, 2 glasses of champagne and a bottle of wine £55 total bill was just abvove £100. per head which is not bad for quality food and venue.

A 50th party with very loud music in the adjoining room clashed massively with the restaurant music, which spoilt the evening

Our evening at one of our favourite Restaurants was completely spoilt by the very loud noise from a party in an adjacent room which rendered the evening totally out of character with the usual experience . We will not be coming back.

We’ve been several times now and last reviewed a couple of years ago. We use Le Bouchon as our place to go locally for a quality night out, or special occasion, because it’s certainly not a cheap night out. The ambience is still very good - the whole experience makes you feel welcome and cared for. People are generally smartly dressed, although once we were seated near to a young male in ripped jeans and who wore a baseball cap the whole time. He looked sadly out of place (including compared to his female partner). We applaud all the staff who we always find smartly turned out, very friendly, helpful and efficient. The food offer is excellent - we just wish they would change the menu more often - and we’ve never been disappointed with anything we ordered. Eg fish is nicely cooked, duck is perfectly served “rose” and the vegetables never over-cooked in our experience. We could suggest changing a few tiny things, such as offering a plate of 6 oysters as a starter, as well as 2 as a pre-starter and expanding the cocktail list a bit (what are currently offered are perfectly fine). It might also be interesting if the chefs might find time later in the evening to come out of the kitchen and tour the tables where they will surely get some well deserved praise and feedback. PS The toilets are also clean and this is something we often part- judge places on because it indicates attention to detail.

We’ve been here on a number of occasions and find it difficult to make any real negative criticism. That’s why we keep going back. The whole look of the place, including staff, is quality. The service is polite, friendly and efficient. The food quality is excellent and presentation matches. We particularly liked the duck last evening. It’s not a cheap place by any means, but you get what you pay for as in most walks of life. If the menu changed more frequently, we might be tempted to more often!

What a fantastic find. Room was well decorated, and modern. Nice touch was a coffee machine in the room. Menu was exciting. Wine list wow! I had the belly pork followed by the lamb. Both well presented and cooked. Although my lamb was seasoned and cooked well. Although for me it was over rested by 5-7mins, just my preference. Star of the hotel from checking in to being served in the bar and restaurant was Emma. A diamond. With her enthusiasm and attitude I thought she was the owner. The hotel need to clone her.

What an amazing hotel ! Stayed for two nights and just loved my stay, the staff were helpful, courteous and nothing was too much trouble. The evening meal superb and not forgetting the great cocktail bar. Can’t wait to return as Le Bouchon is a gem hotel.

My family and I went to Le Bouchon for a celebration Sunday lunch. It was clear from arrival that these people are consummate professionals. We appreciated the elegant ambiance, immaculately prepared tables, impeccable service both at the bar and at the restaurant and scrumptious food...

Enjoyed lovely Sunday lunch which was very good value for which i would consider Le Bouchon to be a fine dining restaurant. However, it was disappointing that they let themselves down by allowing a diner to wear casual shorts. There dress code clearly states that smart casual attire should be worn in there restaurant. I would have found it more acceptable if the shorts had been of the smart tailored type and not the beach type that this diner was wearing.
