Lava in Conwy

We came as a couple for an evening meal. We both had the fillet steak which came on a hot rock which you cooked yourself. The food itself was lovely and staff were really nice too. The only criticism that I have is that there is a lack of options for side orders. For instance the meal we had came with vegetables and jacket potato and there was no other options such as chips. But apart from that, great experience and would recommend

What can i say, this place is totally amazing, heard so many good reviews that i wanted to see for myself... and it really did not disappoint, friendly welcoming staff, fab decorating,warm and inviting,fab menu lots of choice, best ever cooking your own meat, which i must add is totally fresh. I really can not find a problem with this place, i will be visiting again

I thought I had booked on line at the Erskine arms for a meal but it hadn't gone through. We the had to look for somewhere else and found Lava restaurant. Wow! We had the rump of lamb and cooked on lava which we had to do ourselves. Great meal and delicious. Service very good, ambiance lovely and covid friendly. Glad we didn't eat at the Erskine arms.

I’ve visited this beautiful restaurant in the heart of Conwy countless times, and I have never once been disappointed. From start to finish you are met with nothing but a friendly welcoming service. The warm and homely atmosphere is one of a kind- not only food but decor executed perfectly, with just the right amount of style and class. One of my favourite features of the experience is being able to bring your own beverages! (Which knocks a lot off the price of the meal, with drinks normally being the thing which creeps up the price by a lot), there are local stores close by which tell an array of soft/alcoholic drinks which is ideal. On our most recent visit, we were greeted with an ice bucket for our Prosecco, with glasses ready waiting- and then shared a mixed meats platter and safe to say..it didn’t fail to impress! You truly can taste the quality through and through in every course. Then finished with a classic brownie, again presentation, taste and service absolutely faultless. This lovely establishment is run by the most friendly people, and is suitable for any occasion day or night, while supporting a local business at the same time.

Had a lovely lunch here while on holiday. Very friendly staff and a cosy feel. Dog friendly which was also a bonus for us and he even get a treat!

My stomach was a gaping, howling chasm. Standing next to the statue on Lancaster Square, I was in need of sustenance. All the local coffee and tea shops were choc-a-bloc. A local business suggested Lava. Now I had always considered this an evening restaurant supplying hot meals cooked on lava stones. Friends had recommended Lava, but this was 12 noon. I tentatively stepped in, Do you do tea? I asked from the beaming waitress... and snacks? I was seated in a cosy enclave surrounded by Tiffany style lamps and hunting prints. My leaf ( repeat, leaf, not some soggy label) tea, arrived in an old fashioned ceramic pot covered in roses, which could have supplied a family of five. I chose scrambled egg on toast, but fancied something more. Could I have two rashers of bacon and a grilled tomato on top? Nothing was too much trouble . Extras were charged at £2.00 (incl.) My meal when it arrived, was the culinary equivalent of the Mona Lisa. "Summer Breeze"played in the background. I was in pure Heaven. Never have I enjoyed a late breakfast more. The staff were sublime.

We found this restaurant by chance on a day trip to Conwy and what a find! The food was excellent and very friendly service. They made you fell very welcome and I would highly recommend.

After booking a Birthday trip to Conwy last minute, we found that all the top 10 were fully booked...So we ended up in Lava for lunch and thank god we did! The ladies enjoyed an afternoon tea, and this gave the manager the time to explain the whole family business to us. Truly fascinating, and lead us to book up for our evening meal to...It’s bring your own drink, which was perfect for a Birthday, as we could bring our own Champagne to celebrate. And I think the whole lava stone technique, added to the experience.We had the tuna and the trio of meats, and none of them ended up overcooked, even the lamb. Would 100% recommend this restaurant, for the hospitality and something away from the norm.

.... you cooked it yourself.Fed up ordering a steak, telling the staff how you want it done, then the chef does it his way. This is the place for you. Your food is seared and delivered to your table on a hot stone and you control the amount of cooking it gets. I managed to get my steak cooked through, just nicely, just the way I like it. They supply fish, meat and vegearian options. Starters are also good and generous, the baked camembert possibly too generous.Really enjoyed our visit, to enhance the VFM of the place it is bring your own bottle, and there are shops nearby which sell wine.

What a great restaurant in Conwy. Went for lunch with friends, the soup and sandwiches were absolutely gorgeous. The lovely staff told us about the hot stone cooking they did in the evening, so booked for the following week. This was absolutely fantastic, quality meats on hot stone, with the nicest baked potato i've ever had. Fabulous atmosphere, with lovely, smiley, happy staff. Bring your own drink is also a great idea Well done to you all! Cant wait to return, thank you x

What an amazing meal and service we have just received. Felt very safe, the food was excellent and the service second to none. We witnessed the best sanatising routine ensuring all table not just the top and all chairs vigorously cleaned after each changeover. Highly recommend the camembert and meat trio. Book in advance to avoid disappointment.

I booked a table with 2 friends and didn’t know what to expect. I have to say the food and the service were exceptional. I was recommended by another friend who visited not long ago and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. If you are thinking about visiting Conwy, this place is a must. Can’t wait to eat here again.

On holiday in north Wales and this was the first restaurant that appears to take the covid cleaning seriously. It was meticulous and thorough including the seats, S&P pots, sanitiser containers. I saw them sanitising their hands religiously and wore masks. The atmosphere was great, nice decor and lovely food.

If you enjoy your steak rare, as I do, this is not the place for you. To be fair, from the reviews, it is clear that it works for most people, but it could be so much better so easily.We love the concept and have enjoyed it elsewhere. My problem is that the steak comes whole and part cooked on the stone. The stone was not hot enough to sizzle and sear pieces that I cut off, so the cooking was too slow. In fact I was surprised that the stone had cooled enough to touch before we had finished our meal.The beef itself was not great, we probably both left about 20% of our steaks as gristle/fat on the side of our plates. I guess that is normal at Lava because no comment was made by the staff.The price was high considering the cheap quality of the steak and that you cook it yourself.The staff were excellent, polite, cheerful and helpful.We have eaten at other steak on stone restaurants before and know that it can be much better. From the reviews, people clearly love the concept, but it wouldn't take much to make Lava a truly excellent restaurant. Basically, buy better quality meat, put the meat out raw, cut into in bite size pieces and make sure the stone is really, really hot.Then we will return again and again!

We loved it here, beautiful decor, lovely food and we were so well looked after. They even went next door to get us some iced tea. If anyone is in Conwy this is the place to come x

It was a Friday evening and I should have known better than to not book especially as it was my son’s 19th birthday. I walked in to a happy smiley face that I now know to be the owner Chloe who works tirelessly with the rest of her family to give you a memorable time. Unfortunately due to covid she could not fit us in that evening but managed to squeeze us in the following evening. When we arrived on the Saturday she knew that we had rather an upsetting experience the previous evening as we ended up with a takeaway and a taxi home but Chloe had thought it through and put us in what felt like a little private booth. From the moment we got there to the moment we left we were made to feel special. The whole idea of cooking your own steak and even bringing in your own wine is a fairly simple idea but my goodness it works, our young adult kids thoroughly enjoyed it too and my son was smiling again and I had redeemed myself! If you are looking for something a little bit different with a great atmosphere and chilled vibe about the place just pick the phone up and get this place booked, I promise you are in for a treat. We even enjoyed it that much that we came home and ordered the exact set of stones we ate from.

Visited here a couple of times last week for lunch with a friend , fantastic lunch , the place was immaculate and the staff very friendly .Would definitely go here again and i highly recommend it.

Visited today and managed to book a large table for our lunch - staff were all very friendly & very professional - even with all the extra work concerned with sanitising, spacing customers etc - nothing was too much trouble. All of the ingredients included in our lunch choices were extremely fresh & tasty - even the 5 year old with us said his tuna sandwich & lemon drizzle cake was the tastiest he had had. Would definitely recommend this place & will go back again the next time we’re in lovely Conwy.

Booked here for lunch and can say nothing but good things. Bread on toasties and ploughman’s was immense. Soup of the day Potato Leek and Bacon was outstanding. The warm (yes warm) scone with jam and cream for afters most welcome. Visit this place. Did I forget to mention the so friendly staff ? Book now you won’t regret it

We could not have had a better evening. Nothing was too much trouble. The tables were spaced out and cleaned prior to our arrival, the quality of the food was excellent and the service was really good yet unobtrusive. Thoroughly recommended.

Had a lovely lunch at the Lava Kitchen today. Really nice menu and efficient service. Felt completely safe and all Covid precautions were above and beyond expectations. The staff were absolutely lovely and the inside is very cosy. Will definitely return, the concept of the lava is so interesting!

We’d been looking forward to coming here all week but when the day arrived I’d got my times wrong by an hour! So they phoned me to see if I was still coming and couldn’t have been more accommodating despite it being 100% my fault.The service was outstanding and the food was cooked to perfection, even if I do say so myself! The best baked potatoes ever too.There’s plenty of restaurants with food of this standard, but there’s very few with such exceptional customer service.

We booked here for my Mums birthday and hadn’t dined here before. There were 8 of us including 2 children under 10. What an experience we had!The food was amazing and my husband even said one of the best meals he’s ever had!All meals were thoroughly enjoyed by all of us, the Camembert starter was delicious too. The service was extremely attentive but not intrusive and the children even got to experience the hot stone steak and shared a steak between them, each with their own stone with a cold plate to transfer the cooked food onto. We were really looked after by the staff and as previous reviews mention, felt totally safe with the cleanliness procedures.We will be returning soon and recommending Lava to all our friends. If you are in the area then this restaurant is a must. It is fairly small so I recommend booking as they have two sittings I believe, 6pm and 8pm. You will not be disappointed!

We eat here regularly, and all I can say it’s just an amazing experience every time. Chloe, John, and all the team are simply outstanding. If you have never cooked on a “Hot Stone” at your table you really must try it, simply the best. You also get to take your own wine as well. The food, service is just outstanding. I would also like to say that we felt 200% safe with all the Covid requirements, wipes, sanitzer on the tables .Thank you see you soon Xx

Visited for scones and tea and was so pleasantly surprised that I had to write a review. Lava Kitchen made me feel the safest I've felt since covid struck, with exceptional cleaning standards and clued up staff. Scones were delicious and service was excellent - they even had gluten free options, which was a very welcome treat for one member of our party.Would 100% visit again if it wasn't the last day of our holiday!

Top marks for Covid precautions! This place handled covid precautions brilliantly - I felt so safe here. Good spacing between tables, very rigorous cleaning between guests, staff all in masks, track and trace being done and even wipes and antibacterial gel available on each table - exactly as it should be but sadly haven’t seen during the rest of our time in Wales.Service was very warm and welcoming, delicious scones and gluten free scone was such a treat! Cakes - great selection too and all items well presented. Would have loved to have come back here - wish we had found it earlier in our holiday!

In my opinion well worth a visit. We were lucky to get in due to a cancellation (they only have 2 sittings in the evening 6 & 8), which was definitely their loss and our gain, as the food was excellent and service was very friendly. We did ask to try the trio of meats and as a top tip would recommend that you mention this to them when booking as they did not have so had the rib eye and was still not disappointed Highly recommend this restaurant, something different cooking your own food, good food and excellent service

Saw reviews and thought must give it a go. Emailed to book table and all communication quick and very helpful. Fantastic helpful staff, nothing was too much bother. Lots of great choices for starters, had the Camembert, amazing. Had the 8oz filet, with Stilton sauce. Staff explained how to cook on stone, best steak ever had. Would definitely recommend and return myself.

Very good food. Sandwich with coleslaw and salad. Service good and well managed at this difficult time. Hand sanitizer and wipes on every table . Staff very careful and well distanced tables. Eat out to help out discount too.

Visited Lava for first time today on visit to Conway, the food, service and attention to detail were all excellent. Considering staff were wearing masks and getting used to new processes they madd us feel safe and welcome. A real credit to the town of Conway. Nothing was too much and so helpful, this place is a gem!

Just had an awesome prawn and crayfish sandwich at Lava Kitchen. Good coffee, proper tea in a tea pot and warm welcoming staff what’s not to love? Oh and it’s dog friendly, Hilda even got her own sausage! Gets our wag!

We were expecting something different but just expected it to be a bit better to be honest.We are a family of 6 and visited in a very good mood as we were going in holiday the next morning. Perfect customers really.As the point of this restaurant is that “you cook your own steak on stone” we expected the stone to be rustic, varied and different in shapes but each one is an exacting rectangle shaped tile, everyone tile is the same size and inset in a piece of wood and we all found that the tile went cold half way through cooking.There was no marinade to the meat or garnish or prep beforehand.We were just expecting a bit more.We were seated right next to the kitchen so we could see all the veg in dishes that had been prepared (we assume the previous day) and we witnessed and heard each and every veg dish go in and out of the microwave to accompany everyones uncooked meat they ordered.We found that the wine was excellent though as you are able to bring your own and the wine shop ‘Vinamondo’ in Conwy do discount on wines and beers to be taken into Local restaurants within Conwy.Overall the cuts of meat were good quality but in all honesty we found the whole place was a total gimmick and felt we’d been ripped off when we had the bill.

Everything about this unique sizzling cooking experience on a hot lava plate was brilliantly executed; and the atmosphere was warm and inviting boasting sheer class and style. The menu was simple and plain but had sufficient choice for every taste and food hungry critic. There is nothing that I could fault about it’s conceptually self indulging style that was every bit a searing success with A steak out like no other.Tremendous place and the staff were extremely attentive and the perfect hosts to make it definitively a place to comeOn recommendation when visitingConwy village.Will definitely visit this number one eatery again very soon.

I can honestly say, without a shadow of a doubt this is the best food we’ve eaten in Conwy for a long time ! We were a tad apprehensive of the concept, but boy were we proved wrong !! Both the service and the food were outstanding - quality local produce which was served to perfection. The service was outstanding and the owners took the time to chat to us and make sure we were happy with our selection before ordering. Yes it’s a “bring your on alcohol” but this didn’t take away the magic at all. The interior is modern, rustic and a little obscure, but just charming and perfect in every way. A real gem in Conwy, and worthy of a treat for Friends, families or couples alike. Well done “Lava” we will certainly be back for more

Excellent decor and service.Large chunky tables with plenty of space between them so even when full doesn’t feel cramped. Relaxing lighting giving pleasant ambiance.Limited menu focussing virtually entirel on cooking your dishes on the stone.Top quality meat served with jacket potato, perhaps could do with a larger portion of accompanying roasted vegetables .Not cheap, main courses circa £20 but as they do not serve alcohol you can bring your own without a corkage fee so the end bill is then comparable with other pubs and restaurants in Conwy.Make sure you get wine from nearby Vinomondo, fabulous selection!

Had a lovely lunch for a friends special day, and all 10 of us really enjoyed it. Highly recommend the steak and eggs, I had with mushrooms instead of onions and it was beautiful. Definitely go again.

First time visit to this local restaurant which specialises in hot stone cooking. What a wonderful experience cooking your own steak/fish on a hot stone. The meat and fish are very good quality, served with dips, sauces and side roasted vegetables and gorgeous fluffy baked potatoes. Absolutely delicious. They also do some fantastic starters and puddings. The staff are very friendly and the service is exceptional. The young woman serving was so helpful and explained how to cook our food. The restaurant is warm and cosy. Will be returning soon!

My only regret is that we do not live nearer to this fabulous restaurant. The service is great, all the staff are so friendly and helpful, we popped in to book the table and the lady was so helpful, explaining everything to us and really doing her best to fit us in on a very busy evening. The food was wonderful, you cook your meat of choice on the hot stone, I had tuna steak which was wonderful, the first mouthful was delicious and it just got better. The veg was so fresh and a lovely jacket potato. Lovely soup to start and a lovely pudding. You take your own drinks, it has a good atmosphere I enjoyed the whole experience. Would I return? yes. yes.yes.

Incredible dinner at Lava - hot stone cooking. The best meal we've had in a longtime. Great value for money, friendly/ helpful staff, delicious food. Sad we don't live in Conwy,as we would eat here all the time. BYOB, which was a real treat. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Had a very pleasant evening meal here with friend. Lava is different in that it specialises in hot stone meals. The meat was excellent quality and the staff friendly. The restaurant is not licensed so you need to take your own wine or beer. More veg would have been good but to be fair we didn’t ask.

Having booked a table online I soon received a call to check that I was aware of the bring your own alcohol and ensure the booking was sufficient time wise (due to it being last minute) which was a nice touch.

The lady welcomed us to a table and the food was extremely fresh and tasty. The setting was designer friendly and would recommend this eating experience to anyone in the area.

Visited with young children for lunch. Very friendly service, and the food was delicious and nicely presented. Fresh scones were especially good. Would highly recommend.

Quality - not overly cheap but worth it if you enjoy quality steak. Really nice atmosphere and quirky back room. Welcomes dogs which allowed us to enjoy a lovely meal whilst on holiday. Strange opening times so check or book in advance. BYO allows you to take your favourite wine.

This place is incredible, from the the choice of starters to the quality of desserts and don’t even ask about the mains there incredible we had the fillet, rib eye, salmon and tuna and all were mind blowing, the veg was so fresh you felt like you picked it and the jacket potato was mind blowing, I’m a real foodie and I cannot recommend this place enough

a slightly different experience in that you get to cook the meat to your own liking on the Lava stone at your table. we had rib eye and it was a good cut of meat served with a jacket potato and veg. excellent starter and dessert too. it was a superb meal.

We were visiting Conwy for just one night and happened upon this great place on our way out of town. The restaurant is lovely and the food is excellent. Owner is very friendly too. We recommend it highly. Just wish we had had dinner there the night before....

Delicious food cooked and served with thought and care made very welcome . My prawn and crayfish baked potato with all the trimmings was one of the best I've ever had. Hubby had hot steak sandwich which he thoroughly enjoyed and he is hard to please.Bravo the LAVA .

Went out for a family meal while staying in Conwy. Great restaurant with novel idea of cooking locally sourced steak, tuna or salmon on hot rocks at the table. Meal was excellent and owner had advised it was BYO so we were prepared and had beer and wine with restaurant providing glasses and cool bag

This was a last minute booking and we decided to give Lava a try. Great meal, great idea and bringing your own wine is a good idea.

I went with my wife on Valentines Day after hearing some great reviews of the the restaurant! I wasn’t disappointed! I had the steak and it was delicious!

I visited Lava last night, there is a table of 9 of us.. everything came out at the same time, the food was beautiful. The staff we so lovely and couldnt do enough for us, wish i had had enough room for pudding which looked amazing!! Will definitely visit again!!

After looking on tripadvisor for somewhere to eat on a Saturday night, lava comes up with good reviews but not a lot of them. We decided to try it anyway & make up our own mind. This restaurant opened in November 2018 and honestly, it doesn’t disappoint. Selling steaks including fillet! & fish, the chefs will start your steak off & then bring it out for you on a hot stone so you can cook it exactly how you like it. All the meat is from the local butchers & the veg is fresh & tasty! Lovely staff with a very down to earth owner who took 10 minuets of his time out to come and chat to us. Lava doesn’t have an alcohol licence so you can take your own alcohol, which is a plus as just around the corner there’s a lovely little wine shop who give you 10% off wines if you’re eating at lava. The decor in lava is very homely, comfortable & cosy. We couldn’t of asked for a better meal. Please give it a try! You won’t be disappointed.

We visited Lava on Saturday 16th February 2019. The meal was absolutely delicious, we had 3 courses and every one was delicious. We took our own wine etc and thought that this is a brilliant idea as it not only saves a fortune you get to drink exactly what you want to. The staff are excellent and we were made to feel like old friends. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough it truly was amazing. We moved to North Wales in 2018 and have tried lots and lots of restaurants since we moved here, Lava is by far the best, thank you all the staff at Lava for a fantastic meal and evening

The title of my review says it all. From first booking,the service was of a very high standard. We were seated in a quiet area for our first date night in a long time,staff were attentive without being overbearing. The food is exquisite,best jacket potatoes we've had in a very long time and the meat was of the highest quality AND locally sourced. I particularly like the take your own wine policy as it saved us a fortune. Over all I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!!

I went here on a Thursday evening with friends and was surprised to see the place was full. I think that shows you how popular Lava is. I had the mushroom starter which was amazing followed by the lamb which was so tender and tasty. The bonus here is you can bring your own wine, a ice bag was brought to the table promptly.

I and some friends went on a Saturday night in January, the restaurant was pretty full considering the time of year. It's bring your own alcohol which is nice. We all shared the antipasti to start which was really good - cured meats, cheese, olives, sundried tomatoes and crackers. For our mains, I had the Rump steak which was a good size and divine, served with veg and the best buttery soft crispy skinned jacket potato. I'm not usually a fan of jacket potatoes but this seriously changed my mind. I love how each dish is served with different condiments.. fresh ground garlic and butter for the steak so you can choose how much to add when you're cooking it on the hot stone.

What a lovely find, steak cooked on a hot slate on your table, baked potato done to perfection and some of the nicest sauces ever.

The concept of this restaurant is that you take your own alcohol and are served steaks or fish that you cook to your own liking on a hot lava stone at your table. It works well, there are a selection of starters and desserts also. I opted for a pate starter which was excellent and arrived promptly. For main I chose a fillet steak, which was sizeable and very lean and came with a selection of condiments and a beautifully buttered melt in the mouth jacket potato on the side. I also chose Stilton cheese on the side which melted well with the steak. I think it’s the best steak I have ever eaten or is certainly up there, mind you I did cook it myself :) I did not opt for a desert as I was too full, however my partner opted for the waffle with butterscotch ice cream which she said was sublime. The staff were very attentive and service was slick. We will return soon.

We have visited a few times since they opened and it just gets better each time (if that’s possible) the food, service, is simply amazing and all the staff are fantastic. Had a Lovely meal tonight. 2 fillet, 1 rib-eye 1 salmon. All really tasty. The new restaurant looks great with a very nice atmosphere. Even sneaked in a pudding to share. Will definitely be back soon

We visited here on a Friday evening. The service from the friendly team was super. The food: meat and fish is sourced locally - Edwards butcher’s steaks are excellent.

This is a hot stone restaurant recently opened, sister restaurant of Characters in Llandudno, we visited last week and had such a fabulous experience, the atmosphere is really welcoming and very comfortable and cosy, you cook your food on a hot stone at the table which is really fab , there is a good selection of starters and desserts and you take your own wine as well. The staff and service are very attentive and very friendly, Chloe thank you so much for a lovely evening see you next week
