My wife and I throughly enjoyed our evening. A big thank you to Giuseppe our waiter for the evening who we found out was the restaurant manager.

Absolutely exquisite! We love this restaurant. Our most favourite restaurant across the globe. Saturday night is a set menu costing GBP 85. You can add wine pairing for GBP 64. I would highly recommend doing this because Piotr the sommelier, is absolutely world class. His stories about the wine that is being paired are interesting, informative and entertaining. I would take this option just to hear what he has to say. Every dish is presented in an outstanding manner. The taste is simply divine. There is a small bar area at the front of the restaurant where you can have a pre-dinner drink. We did this last night but I would not necessarily say this is essential. They serve some pre-dinner snacks when you are first seated and ‘my helpful hint is that you order a glass of champagne at the table to enjoy with the snacks.’ There is quite a lot of wine that will be served if you take the pairing option but it is all high quality and mixes perfectly with the food. I can only say: for your next special occasion, make a booking and go. Actually, you don’t need a special occasion to go. Make a booking and celebrate anything you can imagine. This is one restaurant you must experience. Highly recommended.

The Five Fields

09/04/2019: One look at the tasting menu and the choice was made. As is the norm these days there was a minimum of information about the ingredients and the style of preparation, but it was clear that nothing would not be to our taste. It was very comfortable in the good open dining room and for a change we were not assailed by piped music, the professional staff made us feel at home immediately, especially our excellent sommelière, and we were served not only very good canapés, cod mousse in a wafer tube and ham and piccalilli dumplings, but also an amuse-bouche of well-tempered cheese custard with salt-baked kohlrabi, carrot and soup - none of which formed part of the tasting menu, a traditional approach to the start of a meal which some other top restaurants could learn from. Now it was on to the eight-course tasting menu proper - a rhubarb cornet with braised asparagus and razor clam combined with Cornish scallop was followed by new season Wye valley asparagus in a bone marrow emulsion and oyster with an asparagus salad served in a wafer. Then the first in a sequence of supremely good offerings - freeze-dried raspberries with beetroot purée and a seaweed wafer backing up delicious foie gras and amazing smoked eel cubes that were absolutely out of this world with the purée. Quality continued at this high level on the next course in the form of brilliant crispy Cornish cod enhanced with garlic, brown butter and mussel sauce, mussels and roast cauliflower. Not content with this, the kitchen then assailed our palates with a terrific pairing of morels stuffed with duck offal, backed up with a super duck jus and broccoli. Herefordshire beef then put in an appearance, our short rib melting in the mouth, tasting just as it should and benefiting from a touch of luscious fat, some lightly cooked turnip crisp in red wine sauce and slightly salty nasturtium leaves making this dish one to savour and remember. The pre-dessert/palate cleanser, a caramel wafer with cucumber sorbet and pink grapefruit, worked perfectly and set us up nicely for the yummy chocolate, fruity gel and crunchy, honeycomb-like hazelnut biscuit. We were not prepared for Five Fields to be as good as this. We now have yet another delightful London addition to our list of restaurants to return to.
12/04/2019: I was looking forward to dinner at The Five Fields - after all, according to Harden's it's one of the best places in London for fine dinning. I was a bit disappointed, unfortunately - although the service was great, I wasn't impressed with the tasting menu. The fish was way too salty, the portions super tiny and some of them like asparagus dish, just didn't work for me. However, the most frustrating part was the seating. The way the chairs are arranged - you can't have your back straight and relaxed when you want to look and talk to your partner - very uncomfortable experience not only for your back, but neck as well.

Medlar

03/05/2019: We went there with some friends for a big O birthday. It was lunchtime, midweek and the place was fairly quiet but the ten of us soon changed that! We took wine from our cellar, using their corkage offer and the ten of us downed three bottles of white and six of red, all excellent, over a very enjoyable few hours. The staff were perfect; efficient, friendly and unfussy, and the menu had plenty of intriguing choices, as always (it was probably our 8th visit but only one of our friends had been there before). The food was exceptionally good, even for Medlar. One friend said 'What a fantastic meal, I can't recall a better one' and another 'One of the best meals I have ever tasted.' We felt we'd done something really special, treating our friends to such a superb experience - but the credit must go to Medlar!
