Larkshall in Waltham Forest

This is the best pub in Chingford, this is where i go to relax and drink with my friends on a Saturday afternoon. Has a great outside area, a good variety of drinks and food and service is great.

Today we went for lunch at The Larkshall. We had family up from Somerset and it was their first time in the area. After a long walk in the forest we were starving. After requesting menus as no one offered us any we ordered. I ordered the Spatchcock chicken from the barby with the usual sides of slaw and fries. I had ordered this some weeks earlier and it was delicious. The other three adults and two small children all wanted roast dinners. There was no traditional roast dinner on the menu despite it being October 1st and a Sunday! Odd Our dinners arrived! My order of barbecued Spatchcock Chicken with sides was replaced with a burnt half of chicken, a cold half cooked carrot, two stems of cold stem broccoli, three not roasted small potatoes and a cold Yorkshire pudding. The side of gravy was cold with no flavour. Every body else had cold poorly cooked food. At eighteen pounds a head I was stunned. We returned three of our plates. The dad and two small kids were too hungry to wait. After heating it all up in the microwave we were given same plates of food. We did pay the bill and didn’t complain because our family had come a long way and despite this dreadful meal we had spent a lovely weekend together and didn’t want this otherwise perfect weekend to be ruined. When I asked why I had been given a meal I hadn’t ordered I was told the Spatchcock Chicken with sides wasn’t available. In fact nothing on the outside menu was available. Why were we given those menus then? And as the ghastly roast dinner had been clearly badly cooked on a barbecue and not in the kitchen, well you can imagine our confusion. This meal was supposed to be the finale of a special weekend spent with family. It almost ruined it. A meal out is a special event particularly atm when times are so hard. To support a local business and get presented with food of this poor quality is totally unacceptable.

Burger patties dry , chips with too much salt, Mac and cheese dry and no taste. I had better food before the summer. What happened ?Dirty table and nobody came to clear it. Disappointed

Well my wife and I have been using the Larkshall PH for a while and love it there. Its always great food and service. Today was an exception the manager Rodney recommended the calves liver, and trust me I know my liver and cook it regular at home. Well OMG what a fantastic meal and so well cooked. I must get 5 minutes with the chief to find out his secret. We wish you all the very best at The Larkshall. Dan & Trish

Good choice for a family lunch in the sun, with kids able to run around whilst great grandma tucked in. Food well presented and tasty. Would thoroughly recommend.

Very disappointed with our visit to the Larkshall. Absolutely flabbergasted that they charged £36.50 for a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Went for evening drinks with a friend. The service was very slow and staff not great, even though it was not busy. No atmosphere. Had been looking forward to going there for a change. Won't be going back though.

Had Sunday dinner here,food was good but roast potatoes could be more crispy,service wasn’t that great waitresses spilt hot gravy all over my pram and didn’t really apologise properly,it was very lucky that my baby wasn’t in the pram at the time! Staff are young and have no experience I witnessed another waitress carry hot plates of food with her sleeves of her hoodie!!!So unprofessional!!

We booked weeks in advanced for a table for 14 people for my mother in laws 90 th birthday. Having had 2 conversations regarding the booking we were let down on the day . We were told we had booked a table for 14 upstairs and this was confirmed before the day . When we arrived we were told that the table was not available. Instead we had 2 separate tables downstairs. This split our family group and was not what we had booked . The food and service was disappointing too , having to send some back some meals as Luke warm . Overall a very disappointing experience and I would not go there again .

Someone has spent a lot of money and effort bringing this place back to life, and it had the potential to be great if the management could only keep the dregs out. After a few visits to the pub and restaurant we won't be going here again. Too many drunken idiots chanting football songs at the top of their lungs. You'll get a better experience at the local Spoons for half the price.

This was our 3rd visit in 3 weeks. Always a Great welcome, service, and lovely food. Padron peppers always go down well. Couldn’t fault this place.

Sunday lunch was wonderful! We were greeted by the kindest server - nothing was too much trouble. Service was quick and the food was fresh and the portion was huge. We will be returning very soon!

Went to a wedding reception here on 9th Sept Wasn't expecting anything too great but it beat all expectations the Manager and all his staff couldn't do enough for everyone. Food was top notch never had to wait for a drink and the music by band and disco had everyone up dancing even the weather didn't put a damper on proceedings. We had a reservation for upstairs party of 10, we changed it 8 people as a courtesy to update them and they squeezed us into a table that barely seated 5 people. Beyond ridiculous. We were so crammed you couldn't eat your food elbow to elbow you just couldn't even get to it. Then they want to serve 6 full roast dinners family style on a flat board 3 feet long all piled on top of everything and we were all supposed to serve ourselves but you couldn't move. The lady running things isn't competent to run a bathroom. Once the food came out we refused it on its board and asked to be served individually on plates which the chef finally agreed to seeing the mess. So we all got our food and the roast beef was horribly grizzly. We asked for steak knives and that did not even cut it. It came with roasted potatoes that were baseballs because they were deep fried not roasted. Most of us left the meat and chicken as we couldn't wait to get out of there. Personally family style is lazy esp when you are putting 8 full English Roast dinners and sides on 1 board and the food gets cold sitting on a board. We like our food hot when cooked. I come to a restaurant like that to be served not serve myself. The level of ignorance by the establishment and its employees to see the situation for what it was...was stunning.

Went in with my Grandad and Aunt for a drink and dinner after their favourite pubs food quality fell massively. The staff greeting was lovely and friendly and everyone was cheerful. Clearly it was a pub with a Lot of regulars as there was a Lot of back and forth between the staff and clients. We grabbed a table and I was impressed with the options availible (was sad to see the baked camembert was off thou). Was a great selection of beers and when the food was served it had clearly just been finished cooking and hadn't been left under a hot light for ages. Was all excellent and decent sized portion. To top it off the entire pub is dog friendly and we were provided with a bowl of water for the pooch. A massive thanks to the team. We will be back

Although we are local residents, we have not visited this pub before.On arriving, we were welcomed by a very friendly lady at the bar. We ordered 2 large glasses of wine (red and white) and received change from £10.00 (Good start!)The pub is clean and well maintained - even sitting looking outside - we saw a man cleaning and checking around the flower beds.The menu is vast and caters for all tastes / nutritional needs ie vegans etc.We ordered garlic bread, sandwiches and chips. They arrived in good time and were great. After a short while, the chef checked that we were satisfied.I have no complaints at all. It is a shame that more local people do not use the pub - especially at lunchtime.I highly recommend and will be returning soon!

Lovely evening out in the garden. Like the umbrella and clean benches. The young lad Scott behind the bar was really approachable and professional and was able to serve the regulars as well as us at the same time without making you feel you were a nuisance. We like a place where you can have a laugh and a pleasant conversation with staff. We will definitely be back.

Although this pub is fairly local we have never visited before- signs for sports coverage put us off- but we took the plunge this week! Given that it’s just off a main road it’s surprisingly quiet with dense greenery shielding a decent sized garden area.We had chicken and mushroom pies with chips and seasonal vegetables and were fairly amazed by how good it was. In fact, it was the first time EVER I’ve eaten all the pastry on a pie.The lunchtime meal deal meant we paid just under £14 for two mains and two drinks - no room for desserts! The young man behind the bar was pleasant and friendly and there was pleasant banter between him and other customers who were obviously regulars.Altogether a very pleasant surprise!

I recently visited the dreaded Larskhall Harvester to meet a friend, and upon writing a review it selected the Larkshall Pub, two totally different places !!!The Larkshall is warm, welcoming and great atmosphere and have welcomed LSAC dive club with open handsI can only sincerely apologize for any misunderstandingThe Larkshall Pub is GREATHope we can have many HAPPY club meets there We have not YET eaten there, so don't know their menu or choices but believe it will be FAB

My wife & I were going to Costco & decided to have a pub lunch here on the way. We usually have a pub meal with friends at least once a week.We last visited here a couple of years ago & it was ok & would have given it a 3*, as I didn't like meals on metal plates & the Gents toilets were awful.But todays experience was fantastic. Faye, whom I think was the Manager & also only server was really friendly & helpful & we also had a nice chat.We went for 2 special meals for £11.99. My wife had the Cod & Chips & I had the Lasagne with a salad & garlic bread. The meals came piping hot about 15 minutes later. They looked & tasted delish!! When Faye came to collect our plates, I told her I had one complaint. Her face fell & smile gone. I told her the Lasagne was moreish & could have had another & the garlicky bread was fantastic.The pub atmosphere was good too. No loud TV's (although I'm sure they are on match days, lovely soft 60's music in the background. Loud enough to listen too but not too to have to shout to talk. The place was clean & fresh. Having visited many pubs in east London & Essex, I strongly recommend this place. It has a good menu but for what we paid for the 'Specials', I think it was great value. I understand they also have quiz & poker nights.We definitely will come back again & with friends. Well worth a visit & if Faye is there, tell her the Lasagne man recommended you.

Top staff, manager was so welcoming made me feel at home would highly recomend to anyone. Also kids are welcome in and food is lovely.

We popped in for a quick drink early evening and although the beers were good and the staff friendly there was a general air of neglect - tables not cleared, beer mats all over the floor, off duty staff propping up the bar and being rather loud and sweary which rather set the tone for a few of the customers.

Visiting from the USA, family members took us here - with a disclaimer. Sister-in-law had not been here and was nervous, but no need since it was really good! The service was very good - thanks, Dean! The food was really good, quantity and quality were both well above average and we were all very satisfied, and would recommend a meal there to anyone!

Recently moved to the area and met friends here for food and drinks. Really nice location with beer garden outside, showing all the sport in the bar and also with a dining area at the back. Food really good and our steaks were cooked perfectly. Overall really impressed and would recommend whatever ur reason for visiting.

A first visit to The Larkshall, a pub I'd spotted on my bus route. Initial impressions weren't all that favourable as the place was rammed and we had to wait a while for our food, but it was well worth the wait.

Went for lunch today with Mother and my brothers, sat in a cosy area down the steps with a great large sofa on one side of the table, the menu was large however all the food came out at the same time and was hot can't fault that at all, we asked the guy behind the bar for the allergy book which was readily available, the barman / waiter was friendly and helpful, our group enjoyed the meals and drinks the only downside was the gents toilets that were smelling quite bad. That said it won't put us off coming back.

Fantastic for chilling out and having a laugh the staff are friendly and welcoming good prices and food is amazing.

Decided to try this pub one lunchtime as it looks very nice from the outside.First impressions were good the décor inside but It was empty inside just myself, my daughter & mum.I went to the bar to order our food and asked what the soup of the day was, only to be told "it's a surprise". I replied that I only like certain soups so could she find out for me, to which she replied "no".Needless to say we did not order the soup. The whole experience was very strange; we will not be returning.

Came here on a weekday lunch . This place is buzzing, whereas in the recent past it was lovingly frequented by white van man and friends now they want families and couples. It's a very attractive building too . Staff were extremely friendly and menu was basic but tasty and well cooked and overall excellent value . Slightly odd clientele seem determined to undermine pubs efforts to appeal to a broader customer base but it's happening whether they like it or not.

Came in tonight for dinner and a drink with a friend, a food was brilliant and the staff were lovely! Better than most pubs that I've been to! The staff member on shift was attentive and couldn't help us anymore. Everyone was happy and seemed to enjoy being there! Will defiantly be coming back!

The Larkshall is set back from the main road in a residential area. On a bus route, it also has a large carpark. There is a nice outdoor area that fills up when the sun shines. The pub has a bar with a screen showing sport (it was the Euros 2016 after all) and a restaurant plus an upstairs seating area.We visited for Sunday lunch. Good value pub grub. Excellent, friendly and attentive staff.

A lovely building with heaps of character, one look at the menu and u know what you're letting yourself in for. A typical 'upmarket ' wether spoons competitor with all the usual pub grub features - straight out of the freezer.

Lovely two course lunch today. Service might have been quicker but the food was excellent. Beer clearly well looked after also. Thoroughly enjoyed eating in the main bar, comfy spot with lots going on. Look forward to our next visit.

Firstly, have to say the person serving us Steph was a good sport considering that were really quite noisy. Went there for a family dinner. Had to wait ages for the meal and by the time I got mine most had already eaten theres. That being said our poor waitress did a good job of keeping us happy. Found out that she was working unpaid and that there obviously was a shortfall of staff. We made sure she had a good tip and made sure she got it. SHE DESERVED IT. No one hassled us for our tables and as several of us travelled some distance it was nice for all of us to get together. I had a burger the biggy and it was delicious and the desert was pretty yummy. I was impressed with the price £199.19 and I don't doubt that the lads spent that much behind the bar. One point. The toilets can't comment on the mens but the ladies are so small one has to cock their leg over the loo and slide the other back just to get the door closed. Since several of my family members myself included have health issues this was incredibly difficult and uncomfortable. The beer garden is nice though and well presented. Saving Grace... Steph who was gracious and endeavoured to please and delicious food at a good price.

Staff are very friendly and great to have a laugh with . It's a lovely pub if you just want one or to spend a few hours in there

My wife and I went there FRiday evening for DInner although we live local it was our 1st time for years. As soon as we walked in was impressed with the appearance very nice real pub feeling. Bar staff Ryan and the young lady 1st class professional friendly polite THer was avery varied menu. The food was exceptional and prices very reasonable.REally enjoyed it and will certainly l be visiting regularly whether for a meal or just a drink. IT was raining but the gardens look lovely and will certainly sit out there as wellCould not fault it at all THanks for a nice few hours

Am only writing this review due to the efficiency and great customer service from 1 staff member Franky, he was very professional and attended to our every need, we went up to the bar on a few occasions and the young girl who was also working was not forthcoming and we had to ask to be served,she seemed put out by this as she preferred cleaning glasses and looking around for someone else to serve us, this happened on 2 of the visits to the bar, we thought her rather rude and think she could benefit from learning some customer service skills, had it not been for Franky we would have left and drank elsewhere.

Just popped in for a couple of drinks early evening which turned out to be just before the night and arrival of the half a pint brigade. Staff were very attentive and chatty which more than made up for the lack of people in the pub at the time. Very comfortable place to relax and have a drink. 'Locals' were very polite and courteous which isn't always the case around here. We'll be back!

Popped into the Larkshall with a mate of mine just because we were passing and what a great pub it was! We were served by a pretty young bar maid who was very helpful in the suggestions of what to drink. We only stayed for a couple and each visit to the bar was great, the people in there were very pleasant and the girl behind the bar was full of chat with everyone. The pub was quiet with great decor. Would highly recommend, definitely going back.

Have been coming to this lovely pub for about 5 years now and managers have come and gone however lately there was new management taken over since start of Feb and it's amazing what they have done in such a short period of time, food is superb and the beers are spot on now with no trouble what so ever and also I am very happy with how the new staff have introduced themselves to the locals that have been drinking here for many years like myself. Great pub would highly recommend.

I came here with a large group of people midday, half the people's food didn't arrive till most people had finished eaten, the Christmas dinner was vile. Vegetables fallen apart they were so soft and roast potatoes so chewy from being undercooked! I couldn't even bite through them!!! (And they're my favourite part) the service was terrible. One person asked for just the burger (as in no salad) and they literally threw the burger on a plate with no chips or sauces it was disgusting presentation and really ugly plates. Would never visit again.

Went today for mothers day, had the Pork belly when it came up thought this doesn't look too appetising!How wrong was I, home made Yorkshire pudding , nice veg (not frozen) and the pork belly was to die for . Popped in to this lovely old pub on the off chance for lunch today. Chilled relaxed atmosphere, staff friendly and welcoming. Food was good value and very tasty, just had a couple of burgers, but both excellent.Looking forward to our next visit :)

We popped into the Larkshall after work on Thursday evening and had a nice meal,served by a lovely young lady called Faye who couldn't do enough for us.The pub has recently been refurbished and offers great value for money.

Good service with friendly staff. Nice Beer garden & a pleasant upgrade in the past year has made it a comfortable Pub to be in. Food's very good with good sized portions & overall good value

A group of 18 friends recently came to this pub for a meet up on a Sunday afternoon. We booked the table for 2pm some weeks before and were offered the private dining area upstairs. We arrived in plenty of time and had a drink outside. At 2pm we advised one of the waitresses that we were all there and went upstairs to our area. The seating was arranged in 3 separate tables, which we rearranged ourselves. We then waited for a good half an hour and no-one came to take our order. Eventually a couple of us went downstairs and asked if someone could come up. When they eventually did we were told we'd have to wait an hour for our dinners as they couldn't plate them all up at once. We ordered a selection of foods, including from the children's menu. Over 2 hours later our food eventually began arriving in drive and drabs. Drabs. The staff got confused with the adult and children's roasts, and the 'half a roast chicken' turn out to be a slice of packet chicken breast with 2 quarters of a roast potato. The food tastes awful and was very slow to arrive. We complained to the manager who did give us our meals for free (he couldn't have done any less tbh) we all left soon after Ashe couldn't face the same saga again with dessert! I wouldn't recommend this pub to anyone for the food. The management weren't very apologetic and the waiting staff were rude(although I don't entirely blame them for the bad service).Thtseatarranged in

We stopped at the Larkshall on Friday evening, after going for a walk in Epping Forest. I had been here before for a drink, but not to eat.The choice of beers is excellent and the wine list looked good, too.But we were hungry. And all I was expecting was basic pub grub.We both ordered steak. Surprisingly - you can request anything in a pub and it still comes to you as medium - my steak was perfectly medium rare.The sweet potato fries were excellent and I liked the choice between four different kinds of potatoes.Mushroom and tomato were present and very fresh and the extra of peppercorn sauce was very tasty indeed.Prices are very reasonable and the service was prompt and pleasant.This pub has great character and the chairs feel comfortable. Tables are attractive and clean. My only problem is that the main entrance is very dark, as soon as the sun sets. It would be useful if the management could put up a little more lighting.But it was a very pleasant meal.

Had a lovely pre holiday lunch here on Wednesday 12 August. Friendly, helpful staff. Great pub food and good portions. Great outdoor space with a little playground. It's a big pub with loads of different seating areas. Service was great. Would highly recommend.

First impressions were reaonably positive.Clean seemingly recently refurbished.Menu was varied.However,it was pretty average standard "pub grub" that you would get in wetherspoons or a 2 for 1 establishment,although meals were priced on a seperate basis.I had whitebait for starters (which was fine) followed by sausage and mash,ok.bit basic,but not for a hearty appetite.My wife had quite frankly a bit of a disaster with her meal.I had ordered two starters for her which the first was to be served at the same time as mine,and the second to be served as a main course with my main course.Her starters never came until my main course.her nachos 9which were to be served first were not very palateble,and her chicken wings had been obviously prepared at the same time as my starter but held back and kept warm,consequently very dry.My wife (admittidly not a slender fashion model) pointed out that the ladies cubicles were very small although clean.After the meal my wife made a complaint to the staff and fair play to them,they refunded the cost of her two dishes.
