Went for our date night meal. Portions, quality, and presentation were spot on! Very good value for money wine list. Well worth a visit.

Late February featured a scallop festival, divine food and perfect service. Great food and unpretentious surroundings.

We enjoyed an incredible birthday meal at the Bistro, everything - from the first cocktails to the last ristretto was perfect, it's fantastic that Rye has an establishment providing this level of food and service. The presentation, flavour, choice, and local ingredients were all top quality and really hard to beat around here. The staff were friendly and attentive, in all it was a really outstanding dining experience. I would highly recommend a visit.

Best Restaurant in Rye by far... we actually always book this restaurant before booking our hotel as there is no point going to Rye if you can't eat here.

I can't praise this establishment high enough! We run a wine establishment in Rye that makes it difficult to get time to eat out. Fortunately we had an evening free, so booked in, and boy were we blown away. The food was fantastic. The lobster starter was divine as was my partners tortellini. The mains of guinea fowl and potato roll were superb and we shared a wonderful elderflower pannacotta. A decent red wine accompanied, and the service from the two girls Keavy and Honey was exceptional. I had to meet chef Martin at the end of the evening to tell him how damn good the whole experience was. I will make sure that we recommend our wine customers to eat there when staying in Rye. They'd be mad not to!

A really lovely place, beautiful food served with no pretence and by staff who want to ensure you have a great time. Value is fabulous for the quality of the food and wine and you’re in for a free unexpected treats too.

We would have loved to come here for my sister’s 30th, but they state that they won’t cater for vegans. This is a real shame - a lot of your younger customers visiting from London are vegan these days, and it would only take a few tweaks to your menu to cater for them. Why miss out on the business when it’s the way the future is trending?

Really delicious, small portions but rich food. We had the scallops, lobster risoni, cod, fowl, vanilla cheesecake and chocolate three ways. All really good!

Booked here earlier in the day. The menu is modest but still very interesting. A party of three, with allergies for soya gluten and black pepper, this was not a problem for them. In the end, two of the party had starters and desert and one main and desert. Scallops pork belly and crumble, mushrooms on toast. Whilst I had lemon Sole fillets, these were all top-notch. The deserts were tarte tatin one clotted cream and one with ice cream brilliant. One order chocolate mousse - enjoyable. Really good evening highly recommended

my son took myself and my mum for dinner last week . The welcome we got from the front of house staff was so professional keavy made us so comfortable and all the staff were outstanding and very attentive all through the evening. the food was amazing the best we have had in rye cannot fault this place would highly recommend it we will definitely be going back.

A quaint restaurant that offers a menu that’s limited but divine. The presentation of the food is faultless and cooked to perfection. 10/10 for the cuisine, service, and ambience.

One of the best meals we've had, service was good not pushy and a nice atmosphere. Each course was well balanced and the flavours and presentation superb. I don't use that word very often. I would have preferred my straw potatoes on the top so they stayed crunchy but other than that, excellent .

I don't really write many reviews, but when my fiance and I went on a two-week honeymoon to France and England, I had to come back and write a review about this great place! The food, atmosphere, people, etc. Everything was perfect. The week before, we had been to some very highly-rated restaurants in Paris, but this one was our favorite of every place we went to on our honeymoon. Thank you for providing such a great meal!

Unbelievable food for an even better value - each dish was faultless and service was great

Simply WOW. So glad we decided to eat here instead of heat up leftovers. The food was amazing. Every bite a taste sensation. The scallop starter was probably the best scallop starter I have ever had (and it's my go to favourite so I've had a few). Every individual component of each dish was fantastic in their own right but also worked brilliantly together. Yes this place is on the pricey side but the portions are quite big for fine dining and the quality is so good it's worth every penny. Service was also excellent and our young waitress was pleasant, friendly and attentive. Our only negative is that it is too far from where we live to be a regular visit!

The first time we have been as our friends who we went with booked 3 weeks ago. Very popular and rated the best restaurant in Rye. Great selection of local produce on the menu, a nice ambience and excellent service. The complementary bread was very nice accompanied with oils and Marmite butter. We had for starters Scallops and for main local Venison 2 ways. Washed down with a Spanish Rioja. The food was well presented and the flavours were perfectly matched and delicious. I feel it's only a matter of time before a Michelin star appears.

Wonderful wonderful food every time. From the home made focaccia and sourdough to the exquisite food that followed (I had the onion soup to begin followed by sole filets) every mouthful is delicious. <br />Would highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed! Book early!

Great food service excellent shame it’s so far from home

This venue was recommended by friends and despite it being cold and miserable outside the welcome we received was warm and friendly. The food and service was excellent. It was pricey but we are on holiday so it didn’t matter. One drawback another table did get a bit noisy so we left a little earlier than we needed to.

Really enjoyed our dinner here. We both had different 3 courses so we could taste everything. My faves were scallops and lemon sole dishes. Tarte tatin was the favourite dessert. Nice touch with free focaccia and olive oil with balsamic vinegar and a salt cod amuse bouche. We also really enjoyed the pinotage wine from SA, good value and easy drinking. Will definitely return when we&#039;re back in Rye. Great food, good value and friendly efficient service.

Enjoyable experience but the food didn’t quite live up to expectations. To many hot and cold combinations on the same plate for me and some of the promised flavours just weren’t there. <br />Nearly but not quite.

Online booking easy restaurant was COVID safe well distanced tables staff wore masks. Friendly staff not rushed. Lovely breads and amuse- bouche quickly providing whilst selecting from menu. A good evening.<br />Not quite the expected attention to detail, perhaps a &#039;chef&#039;s off night&#039;?<br />Spoiled a little by a very salty lobster Risoni (1/2 cost was refunded though.<br />Lemon sole fillets were rather awash in sauce vierge.

Really great food, most of it local. The menu we had included a good selection of locally caught fish and Romney Marsh lamb.<br />Service was friendly and helpful.

It was worth the wait!! We had had to cancel last year’s plans due to a Covid lockdown. <br />From the moment we entered the Landgate Bistro until we left, we felt valued and looked after without it being intrusive. <br />The food was delicious and so well presented. Although the menu is small it caters for many eating preferences. The wine list was interesting and we were spoilt for choice. <br />We would recommend eating here and will definitely be back.

The food here is excellent. I would say that my only gripe is that my fussy tastes (for main course) aren&#039;t really catered for. Last night there were only four mains: cod fillet, lemon sole fillet, a vegetarian (or was it vegan?) option (miso braised hispi cabbage etc), duck and venison. I don&#039;t like fish, am not a vegetarian, find venison and duck too heavy/rich. Yes, I know I am fussy! I ended up having the venison, but it was as heavy as I remembered it, though tender. I would have loved there to be a nice simple maybe chicken dish, or even lamb, or a vegetarian dish that appealed (hispi cabbage did not appeal, particularly as I happened to have had it the night before somewhere else!). Anyway, don&#039;t let this put anyone off as meals at Landgate Bistro are a culinary delight and it&#039;s only me being super fussy.

This was the first time we visited Landgate Bistro after the restaurant being recommended by a few people. Recommendations can sometimes be disappointing but I am very pleased to say it did not. I would certainly feel very confident in recommending the restaurant myself. It is a small restaurant and so could be noisy if there is a lot of people. <br />I will certainly go again.

Visited the landgate for dinner with my wife, brother in law and his wife. The service was fantastic the waiters were on point. The starters was fantastic the lobster rossini and scallops cooked perfectly. The main course was perfect venison 2 ways with the, cod and duck. Desserts was amazing. Well done chef you made our weekend the best end to a weekend. Most definitely will be coming back down to enjoy some exquisite dishes. Many thank Brian M

Still, for us, the best restaurant in the Rye area by far. Great food (their home made focaccia bread is the best I’ve ever tasted) and ambiance. Venison was perfectly cooked, their lamb and seafood dishes similarly so. This is a premium eatery so the question of value is a little academic; 3 courses with wine for two will be around GBP130/150 depending on what you select &amp; how much you drink. Looking forward to our next visit already.

Excellent food, well cooked with fresh ingredients. We loved the lobster and risoni, which was so delicious as well as the amuse-bouche. The delicious fruity taste can be felt throughout without being overwhelming. The staff were extremely nice and helpful, and the atmosphere warm and inviting.

The food was absolutely delicious, the rabbit starter less than successful. We enjoy trying different wines by the glass with the different dishes, in that respect the wine menu was a bit restricted.<br />The welcome and continued support from the staff was efficient and charming, not at all intrusive

We came while we had a weekend in Rye. The food was delicious and the ambience was lovely. Fantastic music and staff that created a wonderful atmosphere for us to relax, laugh and flirt in. It brought us closer together and was a magical evening. The Duck was unbelievable truly recommend, so tender and melt in the mouth and the lobster risoni was delicious. <br /><br />Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic meal at the Landgate Bistro. The scallops, lamb and hispi cabbage were wonderful - one of the best meals we have had for some time. This is a must place to eat if you are in Rye - we will be back soon.

There was a slight delay between courses - but the food was worth the wait. Table staff were polite,knowledgable and enthusiastic. Food was wonderful ... I had the intention of trying the fish courses, but couldn&#039;t resist the rabbit starter and lamb main course. Both were cooked perfectly, beautifully tender, and most importantly, they tasted wonderful.

Absolutely brilliant. Atmosphere, quality of food and drink and price. Indeed, I would argue that they undercharge; the quality or produce, volume of food and extras such as an amuse bouche and quality bread makes the cost remarkable.

Delightful food from an interesting menu. I like short menus, it means that everything is cooked from scratch and not resurrected from a freezer and microwaved.

Delicious food in a pleasant but underwhelming setting

We dined here last night and the meal was fantastic. We were both in agreement that the foccacia to start was the best we’d ever had.<br /><br />The starters and mains were fantastic, but the tarte tartin was the star of the show. <br /><br />The only suggestion I’d have would be to serve the venison on a lighter coloured plate so the colours would stand out a wee bit more.

Enjoyed the bread but that's all. The fish cake was odd. The "Queenie" scallops were not what I expected. The pork was good , the raw cauliflower didn't go with the dish. Runner beans were stringy and not edible. The duck and potato were cold. Very disappointing. The owner has now responded. He seems to think we came determined not to like his food. That is totally untrue. My comments are how I felt. I have been to many restaurants and most I have enjoyed. I have made for comments, the beans were stringy, other people also made the same comment! The main was barely warm and not hot as it should. My wife did make a comment to waitress about the lobster. She obviously did not pass on the comment!! I only commented on the food I had. I think owner should apologies for his unjust comments. we left disappointed and hungry. An now annoyed at his comments. He cannot argue with facts I stated. Shame.... One other point of all the other restaurants I have given reviews have an average of 4.8 stars. I give what they deserve.

An extremely disappointing meal with lackluster staff. The flavours were intense to the point of being unbearable and despite a previous table complaining about the inedible beans they still tried to serve them to us. The staff made little/no attempt to rectify the situation. Appalling...
