Great food with reasonable prices. Amazing fish and chips which were lovely and hot and fresh. Extra crispy batter on the fish which was tasty. Highly recommended and even gave out treats for Halloween trick or treaters.

Fish was not the best I've had, had a taste I associate with having been frozen for a while and I'm guessing mine had been on the hot counter for some Time as it was quite tough and dry as fish and chips go. Chips were one the other hand, fantastic.

Great craic with the staff especially when my daughter spotted the slush machine and the gentleman behind the counter pretended it was broken - just teasing of course. Superb fisj and chips and a gorgeous topping of scraps. Staff very friendly. Simply wish it wasn't a 3 hr journey to them....

Stopped here for fish n chips on the way home from visiting the White Horse. Really nice and relatively cheap compared to prices in York! Would come here again!

We were on a short trip to the area with the kids and we were blown away by the welcome from the staff. So friendly and welcoming and even gave our kids a small tub of chips whilst we waited. The food was amazing, portion sizes were huge. We just wish our local chippy was as good. 😂

Best chippy I’ve had for a long time it was beaut

Really good chip buttie, plus Lenny loved the sausage! Last time i had fish and chips with peas, outstanding!

I called in during the lunchtime hours and grabbed a menu. No prices on the menu which is fine as displayed in the shop, however, it states you get free lemon / tartare sauce. My partner went back to order the food and then got back we realised that the food didn't include the extra lemon slice/ tartare sauce. If we had known this we would have got some lemon to squeeze over. My partner did say there was a sign of 50p for tartare sauce, but with the menu stating you get some free with the meal thought that was if you wanted more you pay for it. The food itself was fine, chips were a little cold when we got home (we only live on the street next to James Herriot Museum and had the car) so not sure if it was a slight issue with the temperature of Fryer as it was only 3 minutes car travel. A quick ping of the microwave got them nice and warm again. The fish was nice and big, with lovely light airy batter. We will give you another try, but the menu does need updating.

I was recommended to Land and Sea by a fellow Coeliac from Easingwold yesterday - and had to go today to try the gluten free fifish and chips. Everything on 1st and 3rd Saturday is done gluten free as the fat is new and all the equipment has been thorghly cleaned - I can vouch for that as I've had no allergic reaction fortunately.

Proper Gluten Free Fish & Chips. Not just those but everything served on Gluten Free Night is Gluten Free. The time and effort to ensuring the quality of food is a credit to all the team at Land & Sea. When you are in the queue and the person in front is from the sausage makers you know it must be good! In a time of escalating prices (especially energy) food from here is still great value for money. Immaculately clean and great quality.

Having read the reviews on here we decided to make the walk out of town to find this chip shop. We found the food to be good but not the best fish and chips we’ve ever had by quite a long way unfortunately. We got one fish and chips between us with gravy - it was huge.and easily enough for two of us. The chips and gravy were great but the fish a little dry compare to others we have tried. Maybe we were just unlucky with the one we got given but it was tasty enough and we still enjoyed our meal from there.

Well what can I say, I rang to see what time they were closing.....now oh OK it doesn't matter.... no we will do your order...I'm on my way. Amazing service, amazing food, and one of the best slush puppies around 😁👍 thank you guys you made my awful day a million times better.

Consistently 5 Star for a Fish shop that is almost 32 miles inland from a coastal resort and just as good. The fish shop owners continues a long reputation of Fish and Chips from the Land and Sea. Friendly and informative staff fresh produce and proper Yorkshire portion sizes.

We're just up here on holiday, wish we could come here more often. Hands down best fish and chips we've ever had. Tartar sauce and mushy peas out of this world and the rest of the food tip quality. The dog even got given a sausage and that went down a treat. Lovely staff and service glad we chose to get food here as our treat night :)

Standard haddock & chips more than enough for my other half. I got a large haddock with standard chips, glad I didn't get large chips! Large peas each too, we were both impressed with quality & portion size, definitely worth a visit....🐻👍

I have just purchased cod and chips and spam and chips the chips were like bullets inedible and my husband spam was so crozled up he couldn't even cut in to it the cod was edible but a bit on the strong side towards the end we read the reviews for this award winning fish shop and was really impressed but I have never been so disappointed in some where like this before

Incredible food here , we were passing through Thirsk en route to a holiday cottage , googled the best fish&chips in Thirsk ,so good we called again on the return journey . Glad I don’t live in Thirsk or I’d be twice the size I am Don’t be fooled by the busiest one in town ,look up directions to this one!!

We love gluten free night at the land & sea. The portions are so generous and very well priced, especially the smaller dishes and kids meals. Always busy, which speaks for its popularity. Lovely friendly staff.

Visited twice within a week now and we live in York some of the best Fish & chips we have ever eaten, enormous portion sizes, real quality potatoes and fresh white flaky fish, as a previous review states could become very addictive and I can understand why. They offer free homemade tarte sauce which again is DELIGHTFUL, The owner is a really nice guy and staff very friendly and professional, pay a visit I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

There's a reason that this place is in the list of Britain's best chippies, & that's because their stuff tastes like it should. Like it used to. People go here once, then don't bother going anywhere else ever again. Yes, the parking is a bit tricky & it's hard to find the first time you come, but it's so worth it. Assume that there'll be a queue, unless you rock up as they open. If you live locally, you'll become a regular too, because it really is that nice.

Often pass through Thirsk and had read such amazing reviews about Land & Sea so decided to drop in for the first time a few days ago. Really clean, very friendly staff and good portion size but I was surprised that an award-winning chip shop does not seem to fry to order - I was given a piece of fish which had clearly been sitting under the counter lights for a while, which though tasty was really rather soggy after just a few minutes, with the batter turned to mush, the chips were also not very hot. It was by no means an awful meal but I really wanted to like this place - ingredients are clearly of high quality, if only justice were done to them by frying fresh!

Extremely busy place especially yesterday when it was national fish and chip day..ordered standard fish and chips X 3 as they had run out of large cod and haddock, and a spam fritter with fish cake & chips..2 X mushy peas and 2 X curry sauce unfortunately they missed off the portion of chips which was very disappointing but we all enjoyed what we had = £25.50

Great fish and chips. Batter crunchy and not greasy. Even did my dog a fish with no salt. A+. Only issue is following the signs to the shop. Journey is worth the trip.

I've been meaning to try this fish and chip shop for ages as Craig used to live in the same village I grew up in and I keep seeing his awards pop up on facebook. We live in Harrogate and the only time we pass Sowerby, the shop is closed so we made a special journey last night. Neither of us are gluten free and it happened to be gluten free night which I made the mistake of telling my husband on the way there so he had already decided he wasn't going to like them! HOWEVER, three bites in and he was already saying they were the best fish and chips he has ever tasted and I totally agree, in fact I haven't stopped going on about them since! The curry sauce was lovley but I didn't want to spoil the chips by dipping them in and the homemade tarter sauce was THE BEST! Well done Craig and your lovely friendly team, we WILL be back :-)
