Lal Akash in Kingston upon Thames

We were desperate for some Indian food and this place is next to the train station. Restaurant was busy at 8pm on a Saturday, there was one guy running the tables and bar, hence service was quite slow and I did feel for him. Not really a great atmosphere in terms of decor. Food however was incredible and made the experience. From sitting down to getting our main (no starter) was just over an hour. Typical of Bangladeshi cuisines the mains (murgh masala) was incredible. As was the rice and garlic naan. Would definitely return if in New Malden

We had a lovely meal and the staff were excellent. They put 7 of us on a nice round table perfect for chatting and eating.

Good food but very very slow service which spoils the meal. So, my view is give this one a miss unless you like waiting for your meal.

Lal Akash has a problem. The food is good but the service is terrible . It seems to be kitchen based as the front staff try to be helpful but it takes far too long for the food to reach the table. It’s a pity as the food is good but it ruins the meal. I would recommend to look elsewhere if you want to avoid being disappointed.

There was a big party of us for our friends birthday dinner. The chutneys that came with the poppadoms as our starters were cheap and nasty. I think they got the mango chutney from the Co-Op. All liquid. The main meal took an hour and a half to arrive and was average at best. I had the chicken Dhansak and the chicken was dry. I had to call the waiter over two or three times to get my second glass of wine and the house wine was awful. I wouldn’t have fed it to my plants. Why they expect people to wait an hour and a half for a meal is disgusting. Absolutely no excuses. The waiter didn’t even come over with dessert menus and simply cleared everything away. No teas, coffees or desserts were offered. Definitely won’t be going back.

The owner and staff here are simply amazing! They are so welcoming, kind and friendly, and the food here is brilliant!! We come here all the time for takeaway, and every time it is outstanding! We cannot recommend them enough. Great quality food, great value for money, simply tasty food from their starters, mains and side dishes. We love this place! Best Indian takeaway in South West London!

Whilst having a day with our son, daughter in law & little grandson, they took us for a drink, then onto Lal Akash Indian restaurant. The food was delicious, well presented with a friendly waiter on hand. It was very nice that after our meal we were able to have a long chat with the restaurant owner, because it was early evening they were quiet. We often go to Lal Akash when we visit our son in New Malden and it's not far from their house enjoying the food efficient service & attention we receive which includes our grandson.

When we were visiting our son & family last Wednesday 24th in New Malden we decided to order a delivered takeaway from Lal Akash & have it in his garden with a bottle of red wine as it was such a lovely evening. The food was delivered promptly piping hot & just as tasty as eating in the restaurant as we normally do. We always enjoy going to Lal Akash which is a clean comfortable restaurant with efficient friendly management & staff, but on this occasion it would have been too late for our 3yr old grandson if we had dined there. Looking forward to our next visit.

I was walking down New Malden High Street and a sushi restaurant that's very good I was originally thinking of going to is closed on Sundays, so went to look elsewhere. There's a lot of good choices for enjoying Asian cuisine in New Malden, but I find most of the popular and high rated Korean restaurants along the High Street are very expensive, but I love Indian food and walked past this place and looked good. It's quite a small restaurant, so comfortable and quiet and the waiter/manager was very friendly. The buffet deal is £9.95 eat as much as you like, but I think it's only on offer at weekends. I was also offered a la carte menu to look at, prices are very reasonable and there's good choice. I opted for the buffet deal, it's standard with saag aloo, daal, mixed vegetable curry and a chicken dish which was delicious. Naan included, it was a decent and good value buffet and I would return and probably try something different from the main menu on a different day.

This place is not like the Cheam branch - The tarka daal smelt off - The prawn puri doesnt taste nice - The mutton curry was nice but less pieces of meat and filled with large slices of onion and vegetables - Does not provide freebies like the Cheam branch which gives papadums and dips

Only the second visit to this terrific restaurant, but the warm wlecome we received made us feel as though we were long-standing customers. The food and service were expemplary, making Lal Akash our local restaurant of choice.

I celebrated my birthday at Lal Akas last night Sat 25th, with family of eleven including two children. We all enjoyed lovely food served by efficient friendly management & staff. The evening was a complete success & made possible by how every member of the staff looked after us so well. We have dined there many times previously & always enjoyed our visits whatever the occasion. Really recommend the restaurant for great Indian food & first class service.

Every time I have visited this gem of a restaurants, the service has been great, superb food and fairly priced. More restaurants should take a leaf out of their book and remember that if you have a passion for your work and care about your customers your life richer. Chain restaurants are failing because they only care about profits. I am fed up of places that serve up underwhelming food and service is robotic. Treat and pay your staff well and the rewards follow

We regularly use Lal akash. Specifically, we collected a takeaway on Tuesday evening. The food was tasty and very well made. The chef was extremely friendly and even made a point of trying to call us to let us know that the food was ready for collection so that it would not become cold. Well worth a visit.

Our son & daughter in-law took us to Lal Akash last night Thursday 29th. The food was delicious as usual ,served by friendly staff & management. This is their local Indian restaurant & we often go there when we visit them & our little grandson with us loves it there too. This is a very comfortable place to eat with plenty of space between the tables.

We had food delivered to my son's house this Wednesday evening by Lal Akash Indian restaurant whilst visiting him & family in New Malden. The food was delivered on time, delicious & piping hot. We all enjoyed our meal out on the terrace with a bottle of red wine. Perfect way to spend a warm evening. We have never been disappointed in their food whether in the restaurant or takeaway.

If I wanted food thrown at me I’d have stayed at home. Average food, rude waiter, mountains of diarrhoea next day. Thank god for soft toilet paper.

Food took ages to come, then finally when we were served, the lamb meat was only half cooked. I wasn't even able to cut it using a knife and you could see the raw parts of the meat. Chicken Jalfrezi was the other dish, the 'cut' onions are so large that you can't even eat them. I have eaten Jalfrezi countless times and I have to say this wasn't even near the normal standard. Moreover, the waiter was standing right behind while I was eating which was not very comfortable. The portions are very small, and overpriced. It simply isn't worth it. Even the music in the background was super annoying as it was a cartoon voice singing which wasn't very pleasing to the ears. I would not recommend it to anyone it isn't worth it, even with the high prices the meals have zero taste and aren't filling.

I ordered from here last night. We usually order from a different restaurant as it’s our favourite. Lal Akash might be the new favourite! I ordered a tandoori mixed grill for one, saag aloo and a peshwari naan. It came with salad and mint sauce. This could have fed two. Although it was a little pricey at £23 (we usually pay this for more food at our “favourite place”) it hasn’t put me off. The flavours of the mixed grill were fantastic. Disappointed there was only one prawn with it but it was delicious none the less. As well as all the standard skewered meat there a whole chicken leg. Once I’d got all the meat off it was delicious. The saag aloo was super tasty too. There was effort put into making this meal and you could really tell! I got two meals out of this. Will certainly be ordering from here again and am keen to try other dishes. Defiantly worth ordering from here. You won’t be disappointed.

We went to Lal Akash in New Malden last Wednesday 9th Feb, with our son, daughter in-law & 19 month old grandson for an early evening dinner. Due to Covid restrictions etc, it's been a while since our last visit. The food, service & friendly efficient staff are all just as good, so it won't be long before we go there again.

Delicious food, good service and reasonably priced. The waiter made a very small mistake by only bringing a coke when a vodka and coke was ordered. The owner seemed absolutely mortified and immediately brought over a replacement drink, as well as offering complimentary baileys for dessert. For me, that is a show of class and a sign of a man that truly values exceptional service and tries his utmost to give diners a fantastic experience. Overall, I had a great time

Very disappointed, My Bengali Honey chicken dish which apparently is no more , was changed to a a garlic CHILLI chicken dish with no consultation whatsoever, ....surely better to explain on ordering so you can choose another dish rather than having one chosen for you!!!! Also a £3.50:delivery charge, we live within a 3 mile radius so I can only assume they are not happy/too busy to bother with deliveries .

Probably the worst service performed by Lal Akash last night 27th Aug. Food order which was collected, as a wait of an hour and a half for delivery was missing 3 dishes and some not what we ordered. The quality, normally of the best in Kingston, was lacking any substance, so where did you go wrong, a new chef or too busy. All the main dishes had just meat or prawns, no onions, herbs, just simply a liquid sauce of different colours. Normally happy to leave some for the next day, tbh, we threw it in the bin. Was not happy as we had guests last night. Now need to find another curry house.

I had a takeaway from here it was superb they must have a new Chef !! Papadums and sauces and salad lovely and fresh . The onion Bhajis were amazing had a aloo Ghohbi potato and Cauliflower gorgeous melt in your mouth potatoes and lovely spiced Cauliflower!! Superb !! Mushroom rice spot in excellent Garlic Nan. I had a Chicken tika jalfrezi specialty and the chicken was so nice and tender lovely sauce with a lovely Tangy hot kick to it!! My friend had a chicken tikka Rogan and loved it. We had a dinner at Lal Akash New Malde today and it was wonderful. Very clean place and delicious food. My husband ordered Lamb Tikka and I ordered the mixed grill, they were both amazing. We had different starters and sides shared them all and all was perfectly cooked, served really hot. Even our children enjoyed the food. Normally our 'go to' Indian restaurant but this time didn't seem to be up to their normally great standard. Spicy dishes not very spicy, portions seemed to be a bit smaller and unfortunately nothing seemed to have its usual taste. Maybe Covid has affected their supplies.

Lal Akash is a simple Indian restaurant that also provides a takeaway service. During my visit there was no alcohol served (they were not licensed) but customers are welcome to bring their own.

Tasty food, substantial serving in each dish.

We've been going to this restaurant for some years now and have found it to be good, t he staff had been friendly and the food had been good. The last time we went there however the waiter seemed disinterested and the service was poor. The worse thing was that we found one on the naam breads to be a bit crunchy, only to discover that there was a piece of clay or stone stuck to it. When my partner pointed this out to the waiter he acted as though this wasn't a problem as stated that it wasn't stone and proceeded to crumble it to demonstrate this. There was no acknowledgement that this was not acceptable what so ever, she was ill that night so we will certainly not be going back there. Frankly I felt that the waiter was only interested in speaking with me and seemed to ignore my female partner.

We visited Lal Akash for an evening meal to see our school friend Jay. The restaurant is very large with a main restaurant seating area and also has its own private room at the back. The decor is of a very traditional style Indian with a bar area in the middle. The restaurant no longer sells Alcohol but you are allowed to bring your own drinks. We began with the usual poppadoms with Chicken tikka extra hot. The staff were very friendly and we didnt wait long for the starters and fizzy drinks to arrive. It was a busy evening that night with a large group using the private room and a very large group at the main restaurant but food arrived quickly. The starters were very tasty and fresh and Hot as we requested it. Staff requested us when we wanted main course to arrive, ‘as we finish starters’ and it did no waiting around or feeling rushed to finished. The main course we ordered was a king prawn sag curry, chicken tandoori curry, Daal, rice and nan with fizzy drink. The food was lovely, delicious and tasty. The balance of taste, spice and heatness in the curries was prefect for us, as we requested the curry to be extra hot as I had a bit of a cold coming!! We had a relaxing meal, didnt feel overlooked by staff or rushed. Staff cleaned up when we finished and we ended with some coffee/tea and desserts to end the meal. Overall a lovely evening, great place and lovely food. Thanks Jay and staff.

Our son took us & his wife to Ala Kash for a meal last night Friday 23rd Nov. We all had something different off the menu being enjoyed by us all. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but are perfectly happy for their customers to supply their own using restaurant glass's. Wine & beers can be purchased nearby stores, either Tesco's or Waitrose. The staff & management are really efficient & friendly which is obviously why regular customers like us keep returning to this welcoming comfortable Indian restaurant.

Now longer selling alcohol and the service was terrible - we were on the verge of walking out before our order was taken and then waited 45 min for our main course to arrive. The food quality had dropped dramatically and to add insult to injury my partner was sick in the night - wont be returning unless I know it has changed hands

Had a really lovely family meal & evening last night Friday 4th Oct. Great food, served by friendly efficient staff. We have been going to this Indian restaurant for about two years, as a family,always receiving a warm welcome by the management. We were surprised to read some recent negative reviews about the food & service as these are definitely not how we've experienced any of our visits. Hopefully the restaurant will be able to get their alcohol licence back & any other issues settled to restore confidence for for the future of the business.

Recent additions to the neighbourhood, my wife and I arrived early for the daily special. Service was pleasant and prompt. I ordered a dish not on the menu without trouble. Food was excellent. I've lived and worked all over the world and can confidently recommend this as a must try.

I am Indian was visiting from Canada. Was looking for good Indian food. I'm glad I went in here. I liked the food and it was served with a lot of warmth.

Ordered takeaway, no food arrived

The place has gone down hill, I think as a result of its 3rd immigration bust and loss of alcohol licence. Felt bad for the 2 wait staff who were the only ones at front of house. People were getting up and leaving as a result of delays and poor food. Such a shame to loose this one great restaurant. Perhaps the owner will learn that it’s not ok to exploit people.

What was once my favourite indian restaurant locally has now apparently undergone a change of management or ownership- no longer selling alcohol and a lame excuse saying there is a delay in renewing the premises licence.We had a long wait to have our order taken with the waiter ore concerned with taking takeaway orders, then a 45 min wait for the main course to arrive, and when it did finally arrive the lamb was so tough to be almost inedible. The final problem was that one of us was violently sick about 6 hours later - we wont be returning !

Whilst visiting my son & daughter in law yesterday 4th June in New Malden they took us to Lal Akash that evening. This is their favourite Indian restaurant in the area & we can see why. Having been there with them several times we have always enjoyed their delicious food, friendly efficient staff & comfortable surroundings. Looking forward to our next visit.

The food was very good. All the dishes as described and well cooked. The only downside was the service. The waiters were rude and behaved as if they were doing us a favour. Very disappointing.
