Lake Isle Restaurant in Rutland

We’ve eaten here several times and it’s always been very good. Today it surpassed itself. We had the Eat put for less menu’ and spoilt for choice and quality of the food, service and ambience.highly recommend, excellent value for price. will definitely return.

We had the £27.00 lunch menu . We were served olives and bread before the meal and posh choc with the coffee afterwards. Each plate of food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious . Would highly recommend excellent service and menu .Fantastic flower shop next door .

We had a wonderful 3 course lunch and were really impressed, it ticked every box for us. The £27 lunch menu was great value for 3 courses and the food was as delicious as it was beautiful….the prawn and crab tartlet was amazing! We were given olives and bread to nibble too which was a nice little bonus. Service was excellent and it’s in a tastefully decorated setting. Definitely worth a visit and uppingham is a lovely town to have a stroll around too.

Everything about our lunch was superb - the food, wine, service and atmosphere. We had the Lunch for Less menu - three courses for £27 - which we thought was excellent value, given the quality of the food.

We were fortunate to get a table for Christmas Day lunch. Everything was perfect from the polite, welcoming and efficient staff to the most delicious meal. Every course was enjoyable with so much attention to detail. The atmosphere was warm with the room and tables decorated beautifully., the whole visit was a Christmas treat.

I found this little gem of a place whilst wondering around the ‘Leading Restaurants’ website and we finally made it here tonight. I have to say the Christmas dinner menu offered plenty of great choices. The service from the initial welcome has been warm and friendly. I suspect we will be back in the new year..

Visited here at the weekend for a nice meal, and that's exactly what I got. I wasn't here too long but enjoyed the time that I was. I felt it slightly pricey for what I had, hence the reflection in my star rating. Will visit again with my though. Thank you all.

The Lake Isle serves consistently great food with amazing flavours, as a vegetarian I never leave disappointed, it’s great to visit somehwere that isn’t just serving risotto or gnocchi! Staff are always very friending and welcoming…..

We went to stay here on a Dinner Bed @ Breakfast basis. Firstly their staff are top notch, very polite & helpful, we dealt with Jack and from the initial booking to paying our bills the next day he was brilliant. Our meal in the evening was fantastic a genuine cut above 99per cent of other restaurants, beautifully served in a lovely dining room, it really was excellent. Our rooms were very good and clean with everything we could wish for. Overall a great experience - thank you.

Excellent food, the best I’ve had for a while, where it’s nice to dress up and and feel like your having a special night out with some top quality fine dining. The staff couldn’t have been better , always felt relaxed but looked after.

This proved to be well beyond our expectations and we’ve been a few times over the years on our days out to the nearby Eyebrook Reservoir for birdwatching trips. The food was superb - of the highest technical quality and as tasty as can be; the service was second to none; and the dining room itself is simply perfect - quiet, comfy and spacious. Wow.

This is the sort of restaurant we would typically head for to celebrate a birthday or the like but, as we were just on holiday in the area and looking for something a little less fancy (or indeed expensive), Sunday lunch seemed a good compromise. I booked it a fortnight ahead and duly noted that anyone who doesn't have the courtesy to cancel in a timely manner is charged for the loss of the table - so it must be good - although in the event it was a very quiet service (and the atmosphere rather lacking as a result). All decent restaurants give you fresh bread to nibble whilst awaiting your starter and this was no exception, save that I found the white mini-loaf tasteless and well below par. I can't remember what my wife had for her first course but my stilton brûlée was very good, although when the plate was collected I did proffer my opinion that the textures were wrong and the dish would be improved if the rock-hard almond biscotti were substituted by Melba toast... Then came the mains. The beef was supposed to be the highlight of the meal and we thought we were in for a treat, but it was so tough that I couldn't even cut it. I explained my difficulty and was duly given a serrated knife instead, which solved the technical issue but did nothing for the beef itself. In true British manner I made the mistake of persevering rather than complaining, but I didn't enjoy it. The veg wasn't much better, being too fancy for it's own good, eg a beer-braised carrot. For this class of establishment it was in my view a 2* main at best. In the interests of science I couldn't resist trying the egg custard for dessert, and the one here was, in itself, excellent. As with the starter however, IMHO the dish was marred by it being accompanied by other elements that simply didn't belong together, including a very dominant sorbet. Needless to say we wished we'd chosen somewhere else - but then we'd have been none the wiser!

We were lucky enough to get a last-minute cancellation and were very impressed by the food, service and rooms. Will definitely be coming back again.

A little bit longer between each would have been preferable.If you can book a table downstairs, it has more atmosphere than the room upstairs which was a bit soulless.

Our second time here and it didn’t disappoint! The menu is really interesting (I’d never come across Camembert creme brûlée before!), and the food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Wines by the glass worked best for us as we were all eating different meals. And the room upstairs felt like we were being served in a very high class private dining room… very special and lovely… we will be back…

On my wife’s Birthday the family had organised a visit to the Restaurant. This was my first visit to this particular place however I had heard good comments previously. The meet and greet was very polite, service was exceptional- not overbearing but attentive and there if you needed. The food was exceptional, beautifully cooked and presented…. Made her Birthday memorable…. Thank you …. I shall return. And yes I would fully recommend it, in fact I have already and friends have booked.

We stayed at The Lake Isle for a couple of nights and ate at the restaurant on the Friday night and what a treat! The food was delicious and the staff were so very attentive. The steak was perfectly cooked to my husbands request and my chicken dish was adapted to my gluten free diet without any loss of taste or presentation. Puddings were incredible and, although we were the last in the restaurant , we were not rushed or hurried out but left to finish our coffee and tea in peace. Lovely hotel; we hope to. be back.

It was so nice to be back inside a restaurant again. Pleasant staff gave good service. The panko scallops were very good and this was followed by the duo of pork. No room left for a pudding. Very nice evening with friends.

Xmas lunch for my wife and self. We were in upstairs dining room nicely separated from other diners. Staff as enthusiastic and willing as ever despite masks. Food was excellent, and as well as tasting good was beautifully presented. A must! Just hope they survive the lockdowns lack of hotel guests etc

We visited recently for a birthday dinner, hadn't been for quite a few years but the food is just as good still and great service. It's a really nice place for a special meal. Our only criticism was that it was very quiet in there at times as it wasn't very busy and they could really do with turning up the background music a bit (it was on but very very faint!)

I can not recommend this place enough, fantastic food, fantastic service and a lovely atmosphere. The panko scallops were a dream, the duo of duck perfectly cooked and the triple cooked chips should be termed a potato each! Absolutely the best meal I’ve ever had.

This is my favourite restaurant at the moment.It's quite small, but by clever positioning of the tables, you don't feel crammed in or too close to fellow diners.The menu is interesting and I always find something nice to eat. The wine list is also good.It has a relaxing pleasant atmosphere and I always come away with a smile.

A lovely birthday meal. We visited last night and had such a great meal. Our waitress was so friendly and very attentive without it being too much. The food was to die for. And although the portions are perhaps a little smaller than the average, we both still left comfortably full and that was without a dessert. Will definitely be coming back!

Nicely spaced out and all the safety features in place. Very pleasant welcome and such happy and excellent staff. The food and service are at relais and chateau levels. My Somerset goats cheese brûlée was perfect as was my fillet of scotch beef with triple cooked chips and watercress salad. Just enough room to share the assiette of toffee to finish a great meal. First visit post lock down, 6 of us, in the snug upstairs which is furnished to a very high standard! We all had a fantastic evening from the service to the food and the wine. There was a lovely buzz about the place for a week night. With refreshed decor too, this still remains one of the top foodie hot spots in Rutland.

Since we last reviewed this restaurant (when we thought it had gone down a bit) it has clearly regained its quality. The socially distanced dining area is very safe and the staff know their menu well. Food presentation is superb and the wine list offers very good choices by the glass as well as their huge cellar. Every dish was just as it should be - full of interesting flavours and subtle sauces - and you should leave space for some outstanding desserts. This place remains well worth a journey and booking is essential.

We had such a lovely 3 course meal to celebrate our anniversary. The service was amazing and the food was out of this world. I had the fillet steak and my husband had the lamb. Both were cooked perfectly. I would definitely return and would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere special to celebrate a special occasion.

I have just dined at Lake Isle I felt compelled to review. Working away your own is tuff. Having to speak to family through FaceTime and dining alone. But WOW this place certainly turned the situation into a perk!!!What a gem of a find, situated in the beautiful countryside village of Uppingham, East Midlands. A girls' evening out on the Dine for Less menu, which represents such good value (a seasonal/midweek offer). I had a smoked mackerel parfait first, then vegetarian haggis and the baked custard to end. Everyone around the table, regardless of their choice, enjoyed the meal. Occasionally I have felt the chef over-complicates dishes, with too many tastes on one plate, but the current menu seems very coherent, and I plan to return before the offer ends! Our group ate upstairs in the private dining room: we could have done with a coat stand up there, because when we emerged, our coats which we had left in the sitting area upstairs had been moved by over-night guests looking for somewhere to sit together: understandable on their part but disconcerting.

We had a lovely luncheon here in this cosy restaurant. The food was very good, as was the service and ambeince. It was fairly priced and we shall visit again soon. There is parking at the back of the restaurant for a couple of cars.

Sorry Richard, Janine and staff. Excellent doesn’t seem to cut it anymore. Despite taking advantage of the ‘Dine For Less’ the quality of food, including portion sizes, service and value for money remained as good as it has been for several years now. The Lake Isle is the only place I’m confident to choose something I’d never normally choose in the certain knowledge it’ll be outstanding. Look forward to eating there every time and I’m NEVER disappointed.

Outstanding food. We went on a weekday lunchtime in January to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Every mouthful off the £19.50 for 3 courses “Dine for less” menu was utterly exquisite. Service was faultless, although the woman could have cracked a smile! The man was more friendly. Pop to the ladies if you want to feel like a 1970s Glam Rock icon.

Another fine meal from this excellent, friendly, efficient restaurant. We have been here on a number of occasions and have, every time, been impressed by the helpful, polite staff, the fantastic food and brilliant service. The 6 of us, including my vegan daughter in law had between us, a variety of dishes from the 'dine for less' menu, each of the chosen meals were beautifully presented and very tasty. An enjoyable get together, we will be back in the future.

At £22 for three courses it was excellent value and the food was fine for the price but nothing stood out. It was also a vey short menu, only 3 choices for starters and mains.It has a nice cosy bar with open fire and the room had a nice ambiance. Staff were pleasant and attentive.

Four of us first visited The Lake Isle on a Sunday for a birthday and our experience was brilliant: we sat in the table by the window, the food was delicious and excellent value, and three of us shared a lovely bottle of inexpensive red wine. Unfortunately, I’m sorry to say that that experience has been a little overshadowed by one this weekend.

Had Christmas lunch here. Good ambience in this nicely presented restaurant. Good selection if choices on menu (6 offers for each course), food is creative and beautifully presented, service is excellent. Prices are so reasonable for this quality of food and service. Dont know how they do it. Will be back again soon

Sometimes unexpected and usual little things turn into something very special. Entirely impromptu a friend and I -being deserted by our wives that evening -needed to eat . This would ordinarily have been a simple curry or chinese but by chance I decided it was my turn to pay and I chose for us to go to the Lake Isle. I had never been despite living close by. My friend however had been and offered wise advice.

Dined there on a busy Saturday evening having booked weeks in advance. No room at the bar, so we had to have drinks at the dining table. Decor is excellent and dining area is great. Presentation of all the food was excellent, but the cooking preparation and precision was lacking. Hot smoked salmon starter was over cooked at one end and consequently heavily smoked; gel cubes with it were a waste of time. Both soup and goat's cheese starter were very good. Only half of the lamb rump was edible because of fat and gristle. Pickled veg was really good. Cod was dry and overcooked. Such a shame as it was a beautiful piece of fish. Pakora itself was really tasty, but sauce was bitter and not very nice. Not a great meal overall for a 2 AA rosette restaurant. The wine list is excellent, but given range and prices, I would expect the waitress to know about the wines and how to open, pour and offer to taste before serving to all guests. Having several people recommend the Lake Isle to us as a place for dinner, we were all disappointed. Maybe just a bad night, it happens, but I'm doubtful I will go there again.

Uppingham is a half way point for a good friend and I to meet up - we booked The Lake Isle for one night and managed to get the little cottage - just perfect. From the moment we arrived to when we left the service was first rate. Richard is a superb ambassador for the hotel and dealt with every request efficiently and professionally - and with a smile on his face. Nothing was too much trouble. Dinner was really lovely and presentation excellent (clearly a great chef) and breakfast was also wonderful (sorry I couldn't manage it all!) . I would highly recommend this place - just great all round!

In the middle of Uppingham, a lovely restaurant which manages to be smart yet casual and relaxed at the same time. Attentive and very friendly service, excellent food and wine, it was the perfect place to celebrate a family birthday having a long Sunday lunch. I believe it has had at least one upgrade recently and its now at the top of our list of restaurants in the area. The menu is also very reasonably priced.

Invited by friends and have not been here for a few years. Great service by the waitresses and fantastic food. The breast of chicken was superb and my wife enjoyed her monkfish. We all had puddings which were very tasty and pretty. Even the English strawberries were made to look attractive. We will certainly be telling our friends about the Lake Isle.

My family stopped by the Lake Isle Restaurant on a recent visit to the nearby Launde Abbey. We were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful food and outstanding staff! Many of the dishes involve local foods (lamb, rhubarb, vegetables, hard cider), giving a taste of authentic English cuisine. I would recommend a visit to anyone in the Uppingham area.
