La Pergola in South Cambridgeshire

We often go to La Pergola for special occasions when we visit family locally. Always a warm welcome and the food is fabulous. The amaretto cheesecake is especially delicious!

Love it! Proper family run Italian great food with a relaxed atmosphere.

This restaurant is a must-go for anyone who wants authentic Italian food. The food was incredible, and the service was outstanding. We will definitely be back.

Having been told its the best Italian around we were kinda disappointed. We had garlic bread and olives to start the garlic bread was not garlicy at all and tasted more like a nann bread. Olives where below par. Mains were nice I had carbonara which was very tasty but the spaghetti was to a little to Al dente. My husband had the prawn and mushroom linguine and again it was nice but not amazing. We ordered a side of chips which were advertised as hand cut but they were definitely not hand cut/home made they tasted like cheap oven chips. Deserts where limited so we just had ice cream but it wasn't good Italian ice cream like you'd expect it tasted no better than a standard tesco cheap ice cream. Service was quick but one waitress was really rude rolling her eyes at people when she took the wrong food to there table and took our food away before we were finished as well as doing this to other tables. It felt very rushed we were in and out within an hour. Price was reasonable which I guess makes up for it not being as good as advertised. Overall I'd give it a 3 out of 5.

The best family run business. Rosa and the team work so hard to make sure the food is delicious. During lock down they kept spirits high by doing take away. Thanks doesn't cover the blessing they have been to the local community.

The food was amazing! The place itself is somewhat rustic, but the food is wonderful.. I'm not normally a fan of pasta but my wife is, the pasta was really delicious. Homemade and fresh all the way.

I went there for my son's 9th birthday and he had the seafood linguine he said it was the best seafood linguine. The staff were friendly. For dessert he had the profiterole and they put a candle on it which was a nice gesture and he loved it. Overall amazing experience 5/5

One of the best Italians in the UK! I was recommended by a friend to try La Pergola, and it’s officially my personal favourite. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is relaxing and the servers are kind. I had the Pappardelle Mare e Monti and I fell in love immediately! I don’t want anything else. I strongly recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Had a wonderful delicious authentic Italian meals with fresh meat and seafood as well as some home grown veggie from their garden. Get Panther Taxi app if need transportation back to Cambridge area.

The evening was full of great, authentic Italian food served in generous portions, great live music, fun disco and dancing up to a very touching stroke of midnight when everyone sang Auld Lang Syne. Love this place and visit often, usually for lunch at the weekend. Friendly staff, and very accommodating of our doubtless annoying toddler. Always busy, but service keeps up. Classic Italian menu, all well delivered. Plenty to keep you interested over a few visits. Not trying to do anything too clever - just creating an experience you want to repeat and you want to share.

Fillet steak cooked in tomato and garlic sauce- superb. Friends had gluten free pasta dishes, nothing but praise for the food, genial host and waiting staff. First class- recommended.

Really good Italian place, with a comfortable and modern environment. They understand good food, you can see by the way the dishes are cooked, cured, and set. Highly recommended. Have not been since the pandemic, and was pleasantly surprised: if anything, La Pergola is now even better: the menu has a number of exciting dishes, the floor staff and the owner are super nice and friendly. It looks like it will become our 'regular'...

Fabulous food, good service and great atmosphere. Very reasonable prices for what is really, really good food. Portion sizes were excellent and the carbonara was one of the best I've ever had.

The highlight of my visit was their Sunday fixed price 2-course menu, offering any main, pizza, or pasta dish along with a dessert for £21.95. For starters, I indulged in the Scamorza In Carrozza—a heavenly creation of deep-fried breaded smoked mozzarella cheese, elegantly drizzled with a tantalizing balsamic glaze. The dish struck the perfect balance between crispy and creamy, setting the stage for a memorable meal. My choice for the main course was the Pappardelle Mare e Monti—a generous serving of wide strands of egg pasta adorned with a flavorful ensemble of wild mushrooms, prawns, and pancetta. Good party atmosphere. Good home style cooking. Burrata was straight out of the fridge, which was hard to taste. Pasta was good. Tiramsiu was a little disappointing in that it was mostly cream. Overall we had a fun evening. And reasonable price.

Real Italian food, you can only find it at the Pergola. We have been twice and we will come back as many times as we feel the need to eat something authentic Italian. Kind and friendly staff.

Visited here with friends for a lunchtime meal. All the food was really good, with four clean plates !! Great friendly efficient service. Only marked down 1 start due to the noise level, but not something they can control.

A really relaxed place for a lunch/dinner out in the countryside, can be a really convenient stop after a visit to Wimpole estate. We were a party of 4 and a 2 year old. We were well looked after and I really liked the atmosphere on a Sunday noon. Our dishes was a bit uneven in how we enjoyed them overall, but some really stood out for the better like the tiramisu and the gnocchi.

We stopped here for lunch on our way back from holiday. The food was surprisingly good. The pasta dishes were very tasty and cooked to perfection. The desserts were good as well!

Fantastic food! We had pizza and desserts - all absolutely amazing! Beautiful flavours - so if you love Italian food, you will love this place. The restaurant is very busy and can be loud so perhaps lacking in cosy and ambiante seating.

Unfortunately service was slow and they missed 2 people off the drinks order at the beginning, which took them almost 30 mins before they took that. The food was excellent.

First time trying here and really enjoyed it. Lovely atmosphere and very good service. Pizza tasted Lovely and fresh and the panettone bread and butter was excellent. One of the party also said the tiramisu was the best they've ever tasted! Already looking forward to coming back!

Having returned from Milan the day before, I’d been eating decent Italian food for a few days prior. Sadly the pizza was watery and oily. Not the best I’ve had. Base a little doughy in places

It is definitely worth its fame, although maybe the only note that should be improved is the fried seafood, which was not so tasty. Everything else os up to its name. Reccomended.

This is our favourite restaurant in Cambridge. Food is always incredible (by far the best italian food we've had). Don't normally write reviews but they deserve a special mention for how they went out of their way to provide a special meal to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday back in February during lockdown. The restaurant was closed on the day (Monday) of my wife's birthday but after I contacted them to enquire about availability, they offered to come into work especially to prepare a meal for us. Unbelievable service from them to come in on their day off. The food was outstanding, Pizza's best I've had anywhere, and my wife loves the Lasagne (again the best she's had!). Deserts are so good too with large portion sizes.All in all, the best restaurant in Cambridgeshire and I can't recommend this place highly enough!

We have been here today riding around with my friends and found this place by chance. Great surprise: food is very good and make with Italian knowledge and good quality. We are Italian and we recognise the same taste of restoutant in Italy.Definitely will come back!!Unfortunately have not taken pictures of the dishes but we had meat and fish and all very good. Had a lovely meal tonight. I’ve really missed this please over lockdown. They have set up a really cute marquee with heaters, fairly lights and candles. The food was perfect as always and I’m now in a very content food coma! The staff are so welcoming and lovely. Please let’s support this local Italian business! Five star rating from me :)

For the first time during lockdown we bought a take away Sunday Lunch from La Pergola. The advice prior to ordering was very professional and email replies were very prompt. On collection, the service was was well organised, very friendly and Covid safe.Once we got the food home, we thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch and the tasty desserts. The restaurant even went out of their way to make gluten free gravy and gluten and dairy free chocolate brownieOverall great value for money and I would highly recommend.I can’t wait to visit in person when we are out of lockdown.

Great Mother's Day lunch collected as a takeaway today. 3x roast beef with all the usual trimmings - home grown veg, Yorkshire pud and lovely tasty gravy plus kids menu pizza. Tiramisu, profiteroles, amaretto cheesecake & brownie for dessert - fabulous and portion sizes great. It was delicious and the quality certainly still the same as eating in the restaurant. Amazing authentic Italian family restaurant and good value too. We are looking forward to eating in the restaurant soon - fingers crossed.Thank you.

Take away or eat in. We have been going to La Pergola a few times now and not only it never disappointed but it always surprised. As an Italian in the UK I must admit: this is the place! The pizza is sublime, the antipasti are delicious the deserts are amazing. Do go or order for a take away.

Called in for lunch after our walk. Such a treat to have a lovely Christmas lunch of roast turkey with all the trimmings, roast potatoes and selection of vegetables. We couldn’t resist the Christmas pudding dessert. Restaurant COVID safe with well-spaced tables and all procedures followed. Thank you to Rosa, Dom, Tony and all the kitchen staff for a great meal.

This restaurant was recommended by the plumber that serviced our rental property. He spoke highly of it and so we booked a table. We were not disappointed! We look forward to dining here again.

Very covid safe and fantastic food. We have been to La Pergola many times and always come back. Every time the food is amazing and service so friendly. They make you feel like family. They all wear masks and you feel very safe. One way in and one way out. Hand gel on entry. Tables throughly cleaned between customers and good distance between groups. I can’t fault them. If you want a fantastic meal in a safe environment then I highly recommend La Pergola.

We met some friends from Bedford for a walk nearby and recommended La Pergola for lunch. We hadn't been for a while and it was so lovely to be back. The staff were excellent and friendly and the whole environment was so Covid safe. The set lunch was incredibly good value and the food was delicious and plentiful. For a Wednesday lunchtime in late October the restaurant was noticeably busy, not only with families enjoying half term. All in all another fantastic experience at La Pergola.

Despite only living 20 mins away, this was our first visit, celebrating our son’s birthday. Service was efficient and friendly and fully COVID aware. Starters arrived in lightning-quick time and were delicious. We all had pizza as our main course. They were a good size, piping hot with a tasty tomato & mozzarella base and generous toppings. We’ll definitely make a return visit.

We have just enjoyed a wonderful lunch here. Service was impeccable with the waiter making us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was simply delicious. The three of us had pizzas with different toppings and we all agreed that they were the best pizzas we had ever tasted. Despite being rather full up, we decided to have a dessert. My friend had the rum baba which she polished off with a satisfied smile and my son and I shared a lemon, raspberry and mango sorbet which was to die for! Everything had been well though of and the restaurant was Covid secure. Easy to park in their grounds and of course, it is free. Unlike in Cambridge, where it costs the earth just for 10 minutes. I would definitely recommend La Pergola and we are looking forward to going with my husband in a few weeks time.

What a lovely lunch in a COVID safe and secure environment. From the moment we arrived we were impressed by the attention to detail and service provided by all the staff. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our table where we were given 3 menus.1. al la Carte which contained a huge range of starters and pizzas in addition to pre-starters, pastas, mains and desserts2. Fixed price menu - 2 courses for £15 or 3 for £203. Daily specials We were impressed by the waiters knowledge of the beers and, realising that my husband was keen to drink an Italian beer, he happily exchanged the Peroni he had ordered for a draught. Who knew that Peroni is now a Chinese brand!The food was delicious with good sized portions. Between us we enjoyed a seafood pasta, a meat main and a vegetarian dish, all of which we enjoyed immensely. The desserts were equally delicious and the staff were happy to tailor make our desserts to fit our requests. A great selection of hot drinks rounded off the most delightful lunch I have eaten in a long time. A first rate experience in a relaxed venue.

It's always on the list when I head to Cambridge been about 10 times! The food is always and amazing and the friendly staff! Domenico and the team are always smiling and happy for all guests to be there! Service is always great and was fast. I'd always recommend pizza there, but the pasta specials are always very good! My absolute favourite though is the Profiteroles - so make sure you always leave room! I can't wait to come back again and again!

Me and my partner came back to this restaurant for a romantic dinner on Friday night. It was really nice to see that nothing changed after the lockdown. Food is amazing like always. Service is the top. Domenico and Raffaele made us feeling that we are in Italy. We will be back soon with our friends as it felt really safe to be on this restaurant.

I had known about this place for a while from friends. Was well worth the visit. The staff seemed to be on top of some good safety measures regarding covid protection which was really reassuring. I had a pasta course and main which in hindsight was probably too much food but needless to say I ate it all.I will be returning to try the pizza.

We’ve just had our first visit to La Pergola with our two young children, and we couldn’t be more impressed. We all had pizza and it was the best we’ve had for a long time - the smoked mozzarella on the quattro formaggi was so good! The service was brilliant and it was a lovely atmosphere - lots of people inside and outside on the sunny Saturday afternoon. You can see why it is so popular with so much choice on the menu for food and drinks. We are already planning our next visit!

We arrived on a Thu night in September, and the restaurant was fairly busy. The decor is a little old fashioned but has a lovely garden. When we arrived we were greeted (without a smile) and shown to a table. It took ten minutes for anyone to come over to take our drinks order. Our drinks didn't arrive until after our starter, and the beer was room temperature rather than cold. The tap water took another five minutes to arrive. The wait for drinks was substantial. The service could have been improved by taking these earlier on.The starters were fine. I ordered bruschetta. It tasted relatively fresh but the proportions were a bit off with a large slab of bread to a small portion of topping.The mains we ordered were the fish linguine. It was ok...some if the fish was overcooked (my partners prawn was very chalky). The sauce was oily and didn't have the rich tomato flavour I was expected and have experienced elsewhere.The deserts ordered were proffiterols (chau pastry was hard and a bit stale, sauce wasnt warm) and bread and butter pudding (the star of the show according to my partner). Having looked at the photos online our dishes looked quite different, so wondering if it was a bad day in the kitchen?The service throughout was relatively poor, with only one server giving us a smile and offering good service.Unfortunately a disappointing end to our trip to cambridge.

Visited on a Saturday evening in mid-August. Plenty of parking spaces. Usual one way system, hand sanitiser etc. Large airy dining area felt spacious. Staff very welcoming in a non-fussy way. Food was excellent and in decent sized portions. We had both meat dishes and pizzas, all home made. Desserts were just as good in quality.

Excellent find. Lovely food, staff very welcoming My 8 year old son said ‘his pizza was amazing the best he has ever had’ he loves pizza and orders it whenever we go out. Reasonably priced and they had everything in place re the ongoing pandemic. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent food and service. The Bresaola starter was well presented and delicious. Both main courses were spot on couldn’t believe you could top this but the tiramisu was the best I’ve ever had. Been worried about eating out since Covid but couldn’t have felt safer. Thank you for a lovely evening.

This is the best Italian restaurant I have eaten at in Cambridge, the Calzone Classico was on a completely different level of quality than any other I’ve tried, fresh ingredients perfectly complementing each other left me with a wow after the first bite, my wife’s linguine alla Bella Napoli dish was fantastic as well, beautiful homemade pasta fresh seafood great taste. Great family run business that deserves to do well.

As an Italian, decent Italian food is really difficult to find in the UK but this place is amazing with delicious food.Service was absolutely spot on as well as being very welcoming and friendly throughout our meal.This is the also the best Covid compliant restaurant we’ve been to (and we’ve done nothing but eat out!). They’ve taken it really seriously from hand sanitiser on the door to 1 in/1 out in the loo and it feels really safe.We live on the other side of the county but we will certainly be back.

This was our first visit to La Pergola. We'd driven by many times and wondered what it was like, and on the hottest day of the year so far when even a bbq in the garden was too hot, we decided on the spur of the moment to give it a try. The 30 minute drive was worth it! A clean, air-conditioned restaurant following ALL the C-19 guidelines (and then some) were in place, which gave us reassurance as it was our first time out in many months. It didn't disappoint. Friendly, informative service came willingly from all the staff, combined with decent, home-cooked Italian food. Fresh ingredients and nicely executed dishes. We know just a little about Italian cooking having actually been many times to the Mother country and had numerous Italian friends over the years, so I was honoured by one of the owners when they said I was THE only person in 13 years of trading to ask for a 'proper' Spaghetti alla Carbonara and yes, they delivered! Rich and tasty, just lovely. The Veal dish was beautifully cooked, not 'over' at all. The Moretti beer was on draught too and arrived in a branded glass, nice and cold. Bottles of tap water (no charge) made a difference as I drink very little indeed, but I did opt for small Prosecco which came sealed (opened at the table) and ice cold... fab! The Panna Cotta was well-set but with the right amount of 'wobble'. I thought my 'Baba' could have had a better grade of liqueur, as I struggled to find any but that will not deter us. We are planning a return visit for this evening as we fancy a pizza and cold drinks. Looking forward to it already - Buon appetito!

Just returned from a visit this evening. Very impressed with the standard of food and menu selection. Truly home cooked yet top restaurant quality. The service was impeccable and surprisingly swift which was a pleasant surprise as we were dining with our young children (normally a “do not eat pasta” person, I ate some of my daughters and WOW, I’ve already planned my next meal choice)! There was sufficient space to maintain distance. Quite often we are disappointed in the restaurants around Cambridge because they fail to deliver on quality and taste concentrating mainly on the aesthetics of a fancy looking plate. This will now be our restaurant of choice. I can not wait to eat my way through the menu.

My countless visits to La pergola and Rosa and her family have never disappointed me. Warm and friendly welcoming at the front door as always. Food is always consistent, fresh and delicious. Recommended dishes are calamari fritti which come in pencil-thin batter, lightly seasoned and perfectly cooked. Seafood pasta is a signature dish to have, and dishes of day are divinely satisfying. Thank you la pergola I celebrated my birthday at your lovely restaurant today, superb authentic Italian food with amazing service. I travel all over Italy from Sicily to Milan and this restaurant beats any I have dined in. The carbonara dish is excellent, the best I have ever had will definitely be back very soon. Thank you

I have been frequenting this wonderful establishment for the last 13 odd years I believe and whilst I have moved totally out of the area to Lincolnshire I still make a point of having a meal with my wife at this most homely of Restaurants. The food, as always is of the highest standard and always cooked to perfection by Rosa and her team. Delicious does not do it justice as I always say I will only have 2 courses but end up having 3!! I have to say I was worried going into the restaurant as to its compliance with Covid 19 regulations, and I have to say I need not have worried it is AS SAFE AS IT CAN BE. The whole team knew what to do and we were never in any danger. Rosa and Domenico know exactly what they are doing so you can relax and enjoy the marvelous food on offer.

Very mediocre food set at high prices. Bland and thrown together. Poor service. We were left waiting a lot of the time. Happy to pay for quality. This was basic grub. Would not reccomend.

This is the first time back since February to the wonderful Pergola and we went I guess with slight apprehension but we need not have worried It was just the same good food but set out differently, all the same staff wearing visors, plenty of space between tables and as well as the dining room there were lots of families eating outside.We have had several takeaways which were very good and delivered to the door during lockdown but was good to be back to a bit more normality and we all felt very safe. Thanks to all the family for a lovely Sunday lunch, it’s great to be back.

....Able to go to La Pergola for lunch ! A little worried that everything would be safe and that we would be able to enjoy the food without worrying too much about Covid precautions, but the management had done much to reassure their customers about distancing, isolation, sanitisation, one time menus, disposable napkins....so it was back to being able to enjoy the calamares, tiramasu and Perona ! A bit of normality. There was lots of space to sit outside at tables with umbrellas, but it actually was too hot. So we went indoors - They were even happy for us to sit at adjoining tables, so we didn't have to share too closely ( there were three of us)...and may I say it was especially nice to notice no hike in prices !! A rarity I think. Thank you,Rosa, Dom and Tony. PS Rosa....will the baked peach be making a seasonal appearance ?? Pretty please.

As a family that were a little concerned about going to a restaurant with all that is happening in the world, we felt so relaxed and at ease in this gorgeous family run restaurant. The food was amazing! So delicious. Staff so attentive and the organisation to make this a safe and comfortable environment at this time shines through. Well done to all at La Pergola - we will certainly be back

So good to walk into The Pergola for lunch today after our walk to Barrington. Rosa, Tony and Dom have worked hard to follow all the new guidelines, one way system, spaced out tables (which can be modified for various sized social groups), one use menus etc. The dining experience felt safe and the restaurant was very spacious thanks to the new area created last year. There was a good choice of meals including the usual pizzas and pasta dishes as well as a good selection of main courses and desserts. One of us opted for Brasato di Manzo - chunks of beef cooked in red wine, the other meal was Melanzane alla Parmigiana - layers of aubergine and mozzarella - both dishes served with a selection of fresh vegetables and roast potatoes or chips. This family run restaurant have supported the local community with takeaway meals during the 'lockdown'. It is a wonderful place for lunch or dinner with ample parking and a lovely outside play area for families. We look forward to our next visit!

We have been going to La Pergola for a few years now and love it. During lockdown we still enjoyed their food through their take away service and now lockdown has lifted we've returned to find that they've taken government advice seriously and put lots of safe social distancing measures in place - Reducing dining capacity significantly with tables 2m apart means you feel safe, with all staff wearing masks, single use menus and one way system. When we paid they also wiped the device down and offered us antibacterial gel.As for the food, it's excellent as usual, and we highly recommend the panettone bread and butter pudding, it's divine. This is our favourite Italian restaurant, frequented by Italians, ran by an Italian family.... What more could you ask for!?!

Just home from a absolutely fantastic Italian meal. All of our dishes were taste sensations in their own right. So fresh, with amazing flavours. The restaurant and staff are COVID 19 alert. From hand sanitisers, single use menus, staff wearing face masks, a one way system through the premises, well spaced tables, thorough cleaning, and much more makes the experience of returning to restaurants after lockdown completely reassuring. Excellent food, as always, in a relaxed but safe environment. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We have just enjoyed our second takeaway lockdown pizza and soooo impressed with the ordering and collection system. The pizzas I must say have been better than ever too - maybe it’s because I’m sick of my own cooking but I don’t think so - they were fab!

Delicious, light gnocchi and wonderful pizzas. Will now be a regular. Looking forward to trying other things, including the puds. A sign on the small table asking customers to wait behind it would be useful for first-time visitors.

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary yesterday and had it not be for this virus we would of booked a table. Instead we settled for the next best thing by having a pizza from their takeaway menu. Absolutely brilliant! I highly recommend the food and the tiramisu! Thank you very much can’t wait to order from you again and when we can return to book a table!

As a family we enjoyed a lovely meal, which was good value. The staff were very amenable and efficient. All round a lovely restaurant with a lot to offer.

Disappointing pizza, soggy middle! Forgot to bring side salad, bought incorrect bill!

We have visited la Pergola over the past seven or eight years -- it has always been an authentic corner of Italy. The food is excellent and consistent, and the service is prompt and cheerful.

Brought my family here on a Friday night, great service from the team, very friendly. Having heard from others that this is the best Italian restaurant in Cambridge my sister was not disappointed. Really enjoyed the homemade pasta and the fact that everything is freshly made. Would recommend anyone to come here and try it for authentic Italian food!!! Homemade profiteroles and tiramisu are definitely worth a try even if you are full up, share one with your table!!

Fantastic and authentic food. The tiramisu was fantastic, and the clay-oven pizzas were delicious and there are a range of them on offer. The main courses were really enjoyed by the two in our party who had them - including the lamb shank which they said was done perfectly.

Amazing food , lovely family restaurant and we always come back. But if you could just speed up the service. We were in for 2 1/4 hours. You need to perhaps do a wee bit of staff training on managing order taking and timing and we just got left waiting a lot for drinks to come mid meal and desert orders to be taken. I love your food though. It’s amazing.
